Gymnasiebibliotekariers tankar om sociala medier : Ett verktyg för att nå ut till sina användare / High school librarian's views on social media : A tool to reach the users

Cesar, Lina, Malm, Isebell January 2017 (has links)
The majority of Sweden's population has access to the Internet and are frequent users of social media. Social media do not only meet people's needs to network, but can also play a role when it comes to their information needs. The library users are on social media, so therefore it is natural for libraries to also be there. Because young people of today grow up in a digital media world, we thought it would be interesting to examine how school libraries make use of these media. The purpose of this paper is to examine high school librarians’ use of social media. We connected four research questions; why does the librarian use social media, how can the librarian use social media in their professional, how can the use of social media contribute to the librarian's skills and how does librarians communicate via social media. We used qualitative interviews as our method to answer our questions. The theoretical framework was based on Jochumsen, Hvenegaard & Skot-Hansen's "The four space" model, which regards the library as a meeting space, inspiration space, learning space and performative space. It is in the original directed at the public library, but in our application it has been adapted for the school library operations and focused on the digital part of the school library. We found that librarians use social media mainly to promote their libraries. They also use social media to keep up on current research and to keep in touch with other librarians. They all find it desirable to have more contact with their users and a greater use of two-way communication.

Att läsa eller icke läsa? En studie om gymnasieelevers uppfattningar av gymnasiebibliotekariens pedagogiska arbete med skönlitteratur / To Read or Not to Read? A Study about Upper Secondary School Students’ Understanding of the Upper Secondary School Librarian’s Pedagogical Work with Fiction

Pettersson, Maria, Wikell, Lina January 2008 (has links)
The purpose of this master thesis is to investigate if and how upper secondary school librarians can work in a more deliberately pedagogical way with fiction from the perspective of upper secondary school students. In the essay inspiration is fetched from phenomenography in order to determine the different perspectives that may exist amongst the students. In addition to the phenomenography, theories on how learning occurs, individual and social constructivism, are also included in the essay. In the essay three upper secondary schools are included. Interviews were conducted with the librarian of each school and with three students at each school. The interviews were taped, transcribed and subsequently categorized, as inspired by phenomenography. The result shows that the students require more activity from the librarian, but they realize that the librarian’s work is limited by scarce resources. The result also shows that the students wish fiction to be used more frequently within the different subjects of the school. In order for this to work the librarian and the teachers need to develop a well-functioning collaboration. Internet was mentioned as a way for the librarian to reach a large number of people at the same time. However, the students were not wholly convinced about the approach of using the Internet as a medium, since they expressed a preference for the physical meeting over the virtual. The result has contributed to a deeper understanding about the upper secondary students’ thoughts about how a librarian can develop his/her work with fiction. Our hopes are that this can be used in a librarian’s practice. / Uppsatsnivå: D

På vilka sätt erbjuder gymnasiebibliotekarie pedagogiska resurser? : En studie utifrån ett sociokulturellt perspektiv om gymnasiebibliotekariens roll i gymnasieskolan / In which way do secondary school librarians offer educational resources? : A study based on sociocultural theory for the role of school librarian in secondary school.

Debby, Lilly January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to explore experiences of the secondary school librarians' use of educational resources in their teaching and how educational resources can be applied in school libraries. In addition to recognize the challenges school libraries face with educational resources. As well if the chosen six criteria for the educational resources is accomplished by the interviewed secondary school libraries. The study applies six chosen criteria from the educational resources of the National Library of Sweden, that's revealing the important role for the school librarians to support students and teachers with different resources than previously. Not only that, but school librarians have more opportunities to avail educational resources because of the renewal for the educational act, which is that every school must have access to a school library. This opportunity led to school librarians being available to work extensively with educational resources. With these six chosen criteria from the educational resources for this study focus on the teaching in information retrieval, teaching in source criticism, arrange reading promotion activities, planning media buying together with the teacher, participate in annual meetings with teachers and assist with level adapting material for schoolwork. These six chosen criteria have been an important factor to analyze with the help of sociocultural theory, which is to understand how physical and cognitive cooperation with individuals and groups could be managed. The study uses four concepts from the sociocultural perspective to analyze the results from the interviews, which are communication, learning, artifact and mediation. The method for this study is qualitative research which is a semi-structured interview. The interviews were recorded with five school librarians from secondary school through Zoom, due to the pandemic which occurred during the study.  The result shows the different experience for the five secondary school librarians with the educational resources. The participants consider that the use of the educational resources is an important tool to support students as well as teachers. Even school librarians can appear with or without teachers in the classroom to offer support in students education. The result shows the value of collaboration between school librarians and teachers, especially planning activities and teaching students information retrieval. In that lesson, a school librarian's duty is to demonstrate how to efficiently manage different tools when students are searching. Another significant aspect is that the four concepts from sociocultural theory show different ways that the school librarian can support with educational resources by adjusting the students needs for schoolwork. This can improve school librarians qualifications in work which to support student and teacher. The result of this study indicates the significant role for school librarians to make use of their qualification and support with educational resources to students.
