MODELOS BIOMÉTRICOS APLICADOS AO MELHORAMENTO GENÉTICO DE TRIGO DUPLO PROPÓSITO / BIOMETRIC MODELS APPLIED TO BREEDING OF DUAL PURPOSE WHEAT

Carvalho, Ivan Ricardo 09 March 2015 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The dual purpose wheat has the capacity to produce forage and grain, through the expression of morphological and bromatologic traits and yield components. Thus, the overall goal was to identify biometric models to understand the interrelationships between traits, direct and indirect selection in breeding wheat for dual purposes. The specific objectives of this study were to determine the canonical correlations between groups of morphological traits and grain yield, and identify the direction and the magnitude of the relationship; and identify the phenotypic relationships of cause and effect bromatologic between forage characters in wheat genotypes under different dual purpose cutting managements. The experiments were conducted in the growing seasons 2013 and 2014 in the experimental area of the Federal University of Santa Maria Campus Frederico Westphalen - RS. A randomized complete block design was used in three trials, the first experiment was arranged in a factorial: five genotypes (BRS Tarumã, BRS Umbu, BRS Figueira, BRS Guatambu and BRS 277) x four cutting managements (uncut, a cut, two cuts and three cuts). The second experiment was arranged in a factorial: Five genotypes (BRS Tarumã, BRS Umbu, BRS Figueira, BRS Guatambu and BRS 277) x Three cutting managements (first cut, second cut and third cut). The traits evaluated were: number of tillers per plant (AF), stem diameter of tillers (DAF), diameter of the main stem (DCP), number of fertile tillers (AFF), number of ears per square meter (ESPM), number of grains per ear (NGE), grain weight per ear (MGE), thousand grain weight (MMG), grain yield (RG), weight hectolitre (PH), green matter per hectare (MV), dry matter per hectare (MS), percentage of hemicellulose (HEM), cellulose (CEL), mineral matter (MM), neutral detergent fiber (FDN), acid detergent fiber (FDA), lignin (LIG), total carbohydrates (CT), carbohydrates no fiber carbohydrates (CNF), crude protein (PTN), and lipids (LIP). Groups of morphological traits and grain yield in wheat dual purpose reveal highly significant relationships. In the management at uncut and one cut wheat, associations are similarly established for both groups, by increasing the DCP, and determining the ESPM the increase, NGE and MGE, MMG, PH and RG. With two cuts the associations are established through the DAF, which influences an increase in MMG, PH and RG. Three cuts showed that the increase in AF increment the ESPM, NGE and MGE, MMG, PH and RG. The indirect selection aimed at increasing the PTN in the first cut can be based on CT, CNF and MV. The second cut provides indirect selection with LIG, CNF, MV and MS. The increase of PTN in the third cut can be obtained by indirect selection to the FDA, CEL, LIG, MM, MV and MS. Indirect selection through forage characters and bromatologic can be successful, since it considers the effect assigned to each cutting management.

Entwicklung von Energiemaissorten für die Mischkultur mit Stangenbohnen / Development of biogas maize cultivars for intercropping with climbing beans

Hoppe, Christopher 23 July 2015 (has links)

Sélection indirecte en évolution Darwinienne : Mécanismes et implications / Indirect selection in Darwinian evolution : mechanisms and implications

Parsons, David 08 December 2011 (has links)
The Aevol model is an in silico experimental evolution model that was specifically developped by Carole Knibbe to study the evolution of the structure of the genome. Using Aevol, a very strong second-order selective pressure towards a specific level of mutational variability of the phenotype was revealed: it was shown that since the survival of a lineage on the long term is conditionned to its ability to produce beneficial mutations while not loosing those previously found, a specific trade-off between robustness and evolvability is indirectly selected. A consequence of this indirect selective pressure is the central role played by the spontaneous rate of chromosomal rearrangements in determining the structure of the genome. More specifically, it was shown that because some rearrangements (large duplications and large deletions) have an impact not only arround their breakpoints but on the whole sequence between them, non-coding sequences are actually mutagenic for the coding sequences they surround. The consequence is a clear trend for organisms having evolved under high rearrangement rates to have very short genomes with hardly any non-coding sequences while organisms evolving in the context of low rearrangement rates have huge, mostly non-coding genomes. Here, we modified the Aevol model to introduce an explicit regulation of gene expression as well as a sensitivity to sequence similarity in DNA recombination events. We observed that the effects of the second-order pressure mentioned above are very robust to modelling choices: they are similarly observed when gene regulation is made available, when rearrangements occur preferentially between similar sequences and even when a biologically plausible process of horizontal transfer is allowed. Moreover, the effects of this second-order selective pressure are not limited to the genomic level: high rearrangement rates usually lead to genomes that have many polycistronic RNAs, almost no non-coding RNAs and very simple regulation networks. On the contrary, at low rearrangement rates organisms have most of their genes transcribed on monocistronic RNAs, they own a huge number of coding RNAs and present very complex and intricate regulation networks. These astounding effects at different levels of organization can account for many features found on real organisms. Thus, the indirect selective pressure that was identified thanks to the Aevol model allows to reproduce a large panel of known biological properties by changing the sole spontaneous rearrangement rate, making this pressure a good candidate for explaining these observations on real organisms.

Palavras-chave: Oryza sativa L.; rendimento de engenho; grãos inteiros; / Nowadays, the incessant quest for greater productivity and food quality is one of the world's biggest concerns. Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is one of the bases in human nutrition, being the second most produced cereal in the world, considered one of the main crops with potential to fight hunger. In this way, they are highly important among breeding programs. These factors that intensify the search for superior genotypes, mainly for productivity, however, the attributes of grain quality are also classified at this same level of priority. These attributes are decisive in the adoption of an improved lineage as a commercial cultivar, as it directly reflects its market value and consumer acceptance. In this sense, the objective of the present work was to determine the adaptability and stability, as well as to study the genetic correlations of grain quality traits of cultivars and elite breeding lines of irrigated rice to facilitate the inferences requested by breeders. Two experimental trials were conducted in different environments, in the agricultural crops of 2014/15 and 2015/16. The first experiment had as objectives to evaluate the adaptability and stability for elite breeding lines of irrigated rice in eight different environments, by the methods of MHVG, PRVG and MHPRVG. The lines AB11502, AB10501, AB13008, AB13002 and AB13003 showed good agronomic performance, besides adaptability and stability for grain quality characters, in relation to the proposed methods. The second experiment had the objective of evidencing the genetic correlations and the direct and indirect associations of agronomic traits and grain quality attributes, related to the yield of whole grains in rice irrigated by path analysis. The total chalky area together with the total whiteness were the factors that influenced the percentage of whole grains, both via genotypic correlations and via direct effects through path analysis, thus showing potential for use as indirect selection criteria for yield whole grain. It should be emphasized that there are still few studies in quantitative genetics for the grain quality traits, so that the genetic progress is only at the beginning. In this sense, new research must be carried out, aiming to use these tools more and more in the selection process.

The selection of genotypes was based on methods of adaptability, as produced by the harmonic mean of genetic values (MHVG); of stability, as produced by the relative performance of genetic values (PRVG); and on a joint selection for both adaptability and stability, as produced by the harmonic mean of the relative performance of the genetic values (MHPRVG). The genetic correlations were estimated (rG), phenotypic (rF) and environment (rE) for each environment. The following traits were evaluated: fruit number (FN); total cumulative productivity (TCP); fruit mass (FM); fruit length (FL); fruit diameter (FD); peel mass (PM); peel thickness (PT); pulp mass (PUM); juice yield (JY); soluble solids (SS); titratable acidity (TA); and SS/TA (RATIO). The estimates for heritability and the genetic gains in the evaluated environments were found to have good perspectives for the selection of superior genotypes, except for traits TCP, SS, and JY. There was a marked effect from the genotype x environment interaction (GxE) for most traits, except for FL, JY, SS, TA, and SS/TA. The most stable and adaptable hybrids in the evaluated environments were BRS Gigante Amarelo (BRS Yellow Giant), HFOP-09, H09-09, GP09-02, GP09-03, and BRS Sol do Cerrado (BRS Sun of Cerrado). In 88.88% of cases the estimates of genotypic correlations were higher than phenotypic in the three environments. In Len??is genotypic correlations between FN x FM, FD, PT, PM, PUM, SS and TA, differed from the other environments. In Dom Basil?o and Rio de Contas to TCP correlated positively with FM, FL, FD and PM. In all environments the selection of fruits with higher FM facilitating higher LF, FD, PM and PUM and the selection of the oval thinner peel fruit shape. In general, for correlations between traits of agronomic importance, such as FN x TCP, SS; FM x FD, PM, PUM, RATIO; FD x FM, PUM, RATIO; FL/FD x PT e FM x RATIO showed the same behavior in the three evaluation environments, except for characteristics FN x FM, FD, PT, PM, PUM e TA in Lenc?is.
