Unternehmen stehen vor der Herausforderung, effizient und kostengünstig zu produzieren. In diesem Zusammenhang kommt dem Industrial Engineering (IE) eine hohe Bedeutung zu, denn es besitzt das Potenzial zum ganzheitlichen Produktivitätsmanagement über den gesamten Produktentstehungs- und herstellungsrozess sowie alle Unternehmensbereiche. Dieses Potenzial wird zwar mittlerweile von einer Vielzahl von Unternehmen erkannt, jedoch kaum genutzt, was insbesondere in einem fehlenden Konzept für das ganzheitliche Industrial Engineering im Unternehmen begründet liegt. Daher wird ein fundamentales „Reengineering“ des Industrial Engineerings notwendig, das im Kontext des Zusammenwirkens von Mensch, Technik und Organisation, den Mitarbeiter in den Fokus seiner Aktivitäten rückt. Im Rahmen der vorliegenden Arbeit wird deswegen erstmals eine Gestaltungssystematik für das Industrial Engineering vorgestellt. Diese gibt Hilfestellung für die Implementierung des Industrial Engineerings im Unternehmen und speziell an ausländischen Standorten, um durch eine geeignete Gestaltung der Aufbauorganisation dessen adäquate Einbindung im Unternehmen sicherzustellen. Because of this lack between research and practice, enterprises waste the potential of IE for the increase in productivity. To overcome the problem of a missing holistic approach for the continuous productivity management, a systematic approach for the full potential utilization of IE will be introduced. This firstly facilitates the institutional configuration of a human-oriented IE in enterprises of the manufacturing and the service sector and secondly helps to realize measures of work design as well as work rationalization by means of a strong change management. Thus, the developed design approach systematically contains dimensions and parameters for the implementation of an overall Industrial Engineering enabling to unleash productivity potentials by considering the technology as well as the human factor and organizational conditions. Furthermore, for the first time the intercultural differences influencing the Industrial Engineering on the functional, structural and personnel level are explicitly considered in the novel approach. Processtyrning av IVL Svenska Miljöinstitutet AB:sprocesser / Process control of IVL Swedish Environmental Institute’s processes

Processer utgör en verksamhets förmåga att producera, vare sig det gäller produkter eller tjänster. För att IVL Svenska Miljöinstitutet AB ska kunna optimera verksamheten eftersträvas att processtyrning implementeras i stället för linjestyrning. Därför har detta arbete haft som mål att undersöka mätetal och styrformer som är lämpliga att implementera inom processen för projektprocessen ur ett kvalitets-, tids- och kostnadsperspektiv. Primärdata för denna rapport tillhandahölls genom intervjuer med grupp-/enhetschefer samt medlemmar i ledningen medan sekundärdata baserades på litteraturstudier. För intervjuer beaktades tillförlitlighet, validering och reliabilitet medan litteraturstudier har beaktat publiceringsdatum, relevans och ämnesområden. Projektprocessen hos IVL Svenska Miljöinstitutet AB består av tre huvudprocesser: “Säljprocessen”, “Genomföra och leverera” samt “Avslutning och utvärdering”. Resultaten av primärdata visar att samtliga mätetal och styrning sker på övergripande nivå, men för processtyrning så behövs mätetal och styrformer nedbrutet på delprocessnivå. Det är möjligt att uppnå processtyrning på delprocesnivå med hjälp av CRM-Systemet Salesforce som är nyligen implementerat i Säljprocessen och Avslutning och utvärderings-processen. Det upptäcktes även att Genomförande och leverans-processen saknade ett en tydigt projekthanteringssystem. Ur ett kvalitets-, tids- och kostnadsperspektiv tillför ett en tydigt projekthanteringssystem ökad projekteffektivitet och dataunderlag för mätning och förståelse för processerna. Sammanlagt rekommenderades 17 mätetal och 2 styrformer vilka agerar som underlag för ökad kundförståelse, bidrar till långsiktig förbättring av säljprocessen samt agerar som verktyg för beslutsunderlag. Slutgiltiga rekommendationer för vidare studier är att initiera en förstudie för ett en tydigt projekthanteringssystem. Vidare är frekvens en frågeställning som bör behandlas internt, där rekommendation görs att IVL Svenska Miljöinstitutet AB har målvärdet att mäta och styra senast veckovis. / Processes make up the foundation for a company’s capability of producing, whether it is physical products or services. For IVL Swedish Environmental Institute AB to be able to optimize itself internally, process control needs to be implemented instead of traditional line control. Therefore, this project had the goal to research KPIs and control forms that are applicable within the processes from aquality-, time- and cost perspective. Primary data for this report was collected using interviews with Group Managers and members of the Management, while secondary data was collected using literature studies. For the interviews, reliability and validation were considered. Literature studies have taken publication dates-, relevance and subjectareas into account upon studying. The project processes at IVL Swedish Environmental Institute AB consists of three main processes: ”Sales Process”, ”Accomplishing and Delivering” and ”Concluding and Evaluating”. Results from the primary data show that all KPIs and forms of control occur on a general level. However, for process control there is a need for KPIs and forms of control on a subprocess-level. It is possible to achieve process control on a subprocess-level with assistance from the newly implemented CRM-System Salesforce, within the Sales-process and Concluding and Evaluating process. It was also discovered that the Accomplishing and Delivering process is lacking an unambiguous Project Management System. From a quality-, time- and cost perspective, such a system delivers increased internal project efficiency and a basis for data-collection for KPIs and understanding for the processes. In-total, 17 KPIs and 2 forms of control were recommended, which act as a foundation for improved customer relations, continuous improvement and as tools within decision models. Final recommendations for further studies are to initialize a pilot study for an unambiguous Project Management System. Furthermore, the topic of frequency of measurement is a matter that needs to bediscussed internally, where a recommendation is made for IVL Swedish Environmental Institute AB toset a target value to measure and control on a weekly basis.

The Influence of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the Swedish Financial Market / COVID-19 pandemins inverkan på den svenska finansmarknaden

The initial coronavirus disease caught the world by surprise at the end of 2019, as it was soon declared a pandemic. It led to an unexpected global crisis and profound disruption in societies and Sweden was no exception. The representing index OMXS30 took a steep fall in March 2020 and the market risk aversion increased in ways not seen since the financial crisis in 2008. The financial market has been extremely unpredictable ever since. Although, it has not yet been declared how the pandemic has influenced the financial market in Sweden. Therefore, this thesis aims to analyze how the quantitative epidemiological factors directly caused by the COVID-19 pandemic can be linked to the price fluctuations in the Swedish stock market - which, in this thesis, is represented by the OMXS30 index. By looking into the significance of these factors respectively, a potential hedging strategy could be determined. A multiple linear regression analysis was performed to determine the relationship between OMXS30 and the epidemiological factors. These factors included: "the number of people in intensive care due to COVID-19", "the number of people infected by COVID-19", and "the number of deceased due to COVID-19". The results showed that the first regressor was of no significance to the model. However, the second and third regressor variables showed to have a strong significance in relation to the price fluctuations of the OMXS30 index. From this finding, an optimal hedging strategy was found. This strategy implies that one should take a long position in the stocks included in OMXS30 if the COVID-19 infection rate is predicted to increase, and contrary take a short position in these stocks if the mortality rate is prognosticated to rise. / Coronaviruset bröt ut i slutet av år 2019 och blev snart därefter klassificerat som en global pandemi. COVID-19 orsakade en oväntad global kris och storartade störningar i samhällen världen över - Sverige var inget undantag. Det representerande indexet OMXS30 föll kraftigt under mars 2020 och marknadsriskaversionen ökade på ett sätt som inte skådats sedan finanskrisen år 2008. Finansmarknaden har sedan dess varit extremt oförutsägbar och det är ännu inte klarlagt hur pandemin har påverkat den svenska finansmarknaden. Denna avhandling syftar därav till att analysera hur de kvantitativa epidemiologiska riskfaktorerna som är direkt orsakade av COVID-19-pandemin kan kopplas till kursfluktuationerna på den svenska aktiemarknaden - som i denna avhandling representeras av OMXS30-indexet. Genom att undersöka dessa faktorers inverkan på den svenska aktiemarknaden kunde en potentiell investeringsstrategi fastställas. En multipel linjär regressionsanalys utfördes för att finna sambandet mellan prisfluktationerna i OMXS30-indexet och de epidemiologiska riskfaktorerna. Dessa riskfaktorer inkluderade: "antal personer i intensivvård till följd av COVID-19", "antal personer som smittats av COVID-19" och "antal avlidna personer till följd av COVID-19". Resultatet visade att den första regressorvariabeln inte var av signifikans i modellen. Den andra, respektive den tredje regressorvariabeln visade sig dock ha en stark signifikans i förhållande till prisfluktuationerna i OMXS30-indexet. Utifrån detta bestämdes en optimal investeringsstrategi. Denna strategi innebär att en lång position bör tas i de aktier som ingår i OMXS30 förutsatt att smittspridningen av COVID-19 förutspås att öka. Tvärtom, bör en kort position tas i dessa aktier om dödligheten till följd av COVID-19 prognostiseras att stiga.

Genom att analysera kortegenskaperna hos Magic the Gathering-kort harmodeller tagits fram för att bestämma deras inverkan på kortpriset. Tidigarestudier har inte fokuserat på spel-egenskaperna, vilket är vad som särskiljer dettaarbete från tidigare forskning. För att modellera effekten av spel-egenskapernahar dessa kvantifierats och undersökts med hjälp av Minsta-kvadratmetoden ochLasso-regression, med hjälp av programmeringsspråket R. Resultaten indikeraratt faktorer direkt kopplade till samlarbarhet och spelbarhet har den störstainverkan på priset för Magic the Gathering-kort. Dessa resultat har diskuteratsmed utgångspunkt från olika perspektiv, såsom Wizards of the Coast (utgivarenav Magic the Gathering), spelare, samlare och investerare. Genom att fokusera påspel-egenskaperna har denna studie bidragit till området på ett sätt som tidigareforskning inte har gjort, vilket ger en mer helhetsbild av Magic the Gathering-kortsvärde. / By analyzing the card properties of Magic the Gathering cards, models have beendeveloped to determine their impact on card prices. Previous studies have notfocused on gameplay properties, which distinguishes this work from previousresearch. To model the effect of gameplay properties, they have been quantifiedand examined using Least Squares Method and Lasso Regression, with the helpof the programming language R. The results indicate that factor directly relateradto collectability and playability have the greatest impact on the price of Magic theGathering cards. These results have been discussed from various perspectives,such as Wizards of the Coast (the publisher of Magic the Gathering), players,collectors, and investors. By focusing on gameplay properties, this study hascontributed to the field in a way that previous research has not, providing a morecomprehensive understanding of the value of Magic the Gathering cards.

En analys av statens samhällssatsningar och dess effektivitet för att reducera brottslighet / An analysis of goverment expenditures and their effectiveness to reduce crime

Through an analysis of the Swedish state budget, models have been developed to deepen the understanding of the effects that government expenditures have on reducing crime. This has been modeled by examining selected crime categories using the mathematical methods Ridge Regression, Lasso Regression and Principal Component Analysis. Combined with a qualitative study of previous research on the economic aspects of crime, an analysis has been conducted. The mathematical methods indicate that it may be more effective to invest in crime prevention measures, such as increased social protection and focus on vulnerable groups, rather than more direct efforts such as increased resources for the police force. However, the result contradicts some of the accepted economic conclusions on the subject, as these highlight the importance of increasing the number of police officers and harsher penalties. These do however also mention the importance of crime prevention measures such as reducing the gaps in society, which is in line with the results of this work. The conclusion should however be used with caution as the models are based on a number of assumptions and could be improved upon further analysis of these, together with more data points that would strengthen the validity of the analysis more. / Genom en analys av Sveriges statsbudget har modeller tagits fram för att försöka förstå de effekter olika samhällssatsningar har på brottslighet i Sverige. Detta har modellerats genom att undersöka utvalda brottskategorier med hjälp av de matematiska metoderna Ridge Regression, Lasso Regression samt Principal Component Analysis. Tillsammans med en kvalitativ undersökning av tidigare forskning gällande nationalekonomiska aspekter kring brottslighet har en analys sedan genomförts. De matematiska metoderna tyder på att det kan vara mer effektivt att satsa på brottsförebyggande åtgärder, såsom ökat socialt skydd och fokus på utsatta grupper, istället för mer direkta satsningar på brottsförhindrande åtgärder som exempelvis ökade resurser till polisväsendet. Däremot motsäger resultatet en del av de vedertagna nationalekonomiska slutsatserna om ämnet, då dessa belyser vikten av ökade antalet poliser och hårdare straff. De lyfter även fram vikten av brottsförebyggande åtgärder såsom att minska klyftorna i samhället, vilket går i linje med resultatet av detta arbete. Slutsatsen ska dock användas med försiktighet då modellerna bygger på flertalet antaganden och skulle kunna förbättras vid ytterligare analys utav dessa, tillsammans med fler datapunkter som skulle stärka validiteten.

Design of an Assembly System at AERCRETE INDUSTRIES

The forming of an assembly system is a complex task, which should be considered as never ending. In order to successfully plan and implement an assembly system it is of vital importance that the obstacles and preconditions that have an impact on the system are identified and evaluated. This together with the necessary support activities and the attributes of the product to be assembled constitutes the starting point for the forming of the assembly system. The aim of this thesis is to link the theoretical findings with the issues stated above, and through this explain a best practice approach when forming the assembly system. The theoretical work aims at describing the nature and activities within assembly and manufacturing systems and explains these in three different levels of strategies divided into Manufacturing strategies, Layout, material flow and design strategies and finally Logistic, material handling and quality strategies. Then the obstacles and preconditions found are discussed and evaluated which set the basis for the forming of the assembly system and by linking these with the relevant theory, conceptual design proposals for the assembly system and the Logistic support system are formed. These are then evaluated and finally a proposal for the detailed layout of the assembly system is given. This proposal is then to be used as a guideline for the company Aercrete when forming their assembly system.

UTILIZATION OF WIND POWER IN RWANDA : Design and Production Option

This Master Thesis is the research done in the country of Rwanda. The project leads to study the climate of this country in order to establish whether this climate could be used to produce energy from air and to implement the first wind turbine for serving the nation.   After an introduction about the historical background of wind power, the thesis work deals with assessment of wind energy potential of Rwanda in focusing of the most suitable place for wind power plants. The best location with annual mean wind speed, the rate of use of turbine with hub height for an annual production per year, the mean wind speeds for 6 sites of Rwanda based on ECMWF for climatic data for one year at relief of altitude of 100m and coordinates are reported too.   The result of energy produced and calculations were done based on power hitting wind turbine generator in order to calculate Kinetic energy and power available at the best location to the measurement over the period of 12 months, that could be hoped for long term.   With help of logarithmic law, where wind speed usually increases with increasing in elevation and the desired wind speeds at all 6 sites were used. The annual energy production was taken into account at the best site with desired wind speed at the initial cost of turbine as well as the cost of energy (COE).However, with comparison of the tariff of EWSA, the price of Wind designed in this Research per kWh is cheaper and suitable for people of Rwanda. / <p><em>Rwanda has considerable opportunities development energy from hydro sources, methane gas, solar and peat deposits. Most of these energy sources have not been fully exploited, such as solar, wind and geothermal. As such wood is still being the major source of energy for 94 per cent of the population and imported petroleum products consume more than 40 per cent of foreign exchange. Energy is a key component of the Rwandan economy. It is thus recognized that the current inadequate and expensive energy supply constitutes a limiting factor to sustainable development. Rwanda’s Vision 2020 emphasizes the need for economic growth, private investment and economic transformation supported by a reliable and affordable energy supply as a key factor for the development process. To achieve this transformation, the country will need to increase energy production and diversify into alternative energy sources. Rwandan nations don’t have small-scale solar, wind, and geothermal devices in operation providing energy to urban and rural areas. These types of energy production are especially useful in remote locations because of the excessive cost of transporting electricity from large-scale power plants. The application of renewable energy technology has the potential to alleviate many of the problems that face the people of Rwanda every day, especially if done so in a sustainable manner that prioritizes human rights.</em></p>
