電視新聞中的地球村 - 台灣電視國際新聞的資訊娛樂化 / The Global Village of Television News - An Overview of Infotainment in Taiwan International News

本研究以内容分析法分析台灣公共電視與TVBS新聞台晚間新聞中國際新聞的數量、編排、資訊娛樂化與馴化策略的呈現,共分析公共電視140則,TVBS新聞台80則,合共221則國際新聞。 本研究發現:1)台灣電子媒體的國際新聞在内容上依然以嚴肅的政治與經濟主題為主。然而,資訊娛樂化的主題在台灣電子媒體中依然佔相當的比例。2)商業電視台較公營電視台更常以資訊娛樂為主題與以娛樂性角度報導國際新聞。而根據本研究所發展出來的「内在資訊娛樂化指數」,商業電視台之資訊娛樂化程度較公共電視高。3)引用西方媒體如CNN與BBC的國際新聞之「内在資訊娛樂化指數」較低,而引用非西方媒體或沒有引用外國媒體的國際新聞「内在資訊娛樂化指數」則最高。4)本研究發現台灣電視國際新聞中落後國家較的資訊娛樂化程度較已發展國家與發展中國家為低。5)本研究也發現在外在資訊娛樂化的部分,台灣電子媒體在視覺包裝的使用較不常見。 本研究結果同時也指出台灣電子媒體之國際新聞的地域角度中較重視國外新聞。在馴化策略的使用中不管是地圖的使用或影響的説明都偏低,研究同時也發現在本地消息來源的使用上,台灣電子媒體均以名人與專家為主。比較公營電視台與商業電視台則發現公營電視台較重視國際新聞中本地消息來源之聲音。 / Employing content analysis, this study examines the quantity, format, infotainment phenomena and domestication strategies of international news in two Taiwan television stations. This study analyzes a total number of 221 international news, consisting 140 international news from Taiwan Public Broadcast Station, and 80 from TVBS News Channel. From this study, it is concluded that: 1) political related topic dominate Taiwan international news, however infotainment topic such as human interest, entertainment, and sports news also occupied a large part of international news in Taiwan; 2) commercial station are more vulnerable to infotainment both in news topic and news perspective than public station, and according to the “Internal Infotainment Index” developed in this study, commercial station shows a higher degree of infotainment than public station; 3) news material that comes from Western sources such as CNN and BBC shown less degree of infotainment than news material that comes from non-Western sources or original news; 4) news of developed countries and developing countries have higher degree of infotainment than less developed countries; 5) visual package such as background music and animation are not often employ in international news in Taiwan. This study also concluded that international news in Taiwan emphasizes in foreign event. The usage of map and influence as linkage of domestic audience and international news are rare. This study also found that both stations are more likely to refer to or cite local celebrities and professionals to emphasis the importance of certain international affairs; however public station is stress more on voice of local public than the commercial station in international news.

Master thesis "Reporting across the Hemispheres: Conceptual Comparison of the Most Viewed Newscasts in the Czech Republic and New Zealand" describes contemporary valid and frequently used concepts of television news shows of the most viewed newscasts in the Czech Republic and New Zealand, which are Televizní noviny airing on TV Nova and One News airing on TV One. It compares both technical and especially the content-related aspects of newscasts during a one-month-long period (January 2014) in order to find general scheme for the choice of the topics, their processing, arrangement and their final presentation in each show. The thesis then puts ascertained findings into the broader national, historical and cultural context of the media sphere in both countries and furthermore, it compares both media systems and their newscast contents and explains why some factors used in them are the same and other differs.

Men hur viktiga är politikernas klädsel? Enligt teorin finns det en tendens till att den politiska journalistiken alltmer trivialiserar och skandaliserar politiken. Politiken medialiseras och estetiseras. Mot denna bakgrund var mitt syfte att undersöka modets betydelse och funktion. Min ambition var att studera vilka olika faktorer som avgör modets relevans i politiken. Kvalitativa intervjuer genomfördes med tre aktörer verksamma inom politiken respektive medierna.</p><p>Resultaten visade att det finns sex aspekter som är betydelsefulla faktorer som förklarar modets betydelse och funktion; 1) mode kommunicerar och påverkar; 2) mode kan skapa efterfrågan; 2) mode anses vara genusrelaterat; 3) mode anses kunna uttrycka identitet; 4) politikernas klädsel har nyhetsvärde som ibland kan skada deras trovärdighet; 5) mode i politiken anses inte ha en avgörande betydelse vad gäller väljarpåverkan; 6) det har skett en kontinuerlig utveckling och förändring under de senaste årtiondena där mode fått en allt större betydelse.</p>

Amid this new design, the Communication also realizes changes, as the interactivity promoted by the media coverage, the new appearance of the audience, more demanding and connected, or the hybridization of genres and formats. In this context, there are entertainment programs, especially in the television, incorporating technical and practical aspects of journalism, including the narrative and production processes. Such programs convey a content called infotainment, which combines information and entertainment and thus the journalistic representation of social life is linked to distraction and fun. The dissertation analyzes the content of the news production process within an entertainment program and varieties that features lots of news content in its composition: the Hoje Em Dia, from Rede Record. This is a qualitative study, study type of case, using direct observation techniques, semi-open interviews, desk research and content analysis. The issue of technical reproducibility standards and the inclusion of everyday elements combined with the cultural industry and mass communication is also depicted in this dissertation. The main intention is to understand how the dynamics of journalistic production programs to entertain and at the same time inform. How these hybrid products of modernity are thought and how infotainment theory can be combined with the communicational mediations of culture / Sabe-se que o entretenimento está incorporado no cotidiano da sociedade moderna de maneira que ultrapassa apenas os momentos de lazer e ócio, fazendo-se presente nos ambientes profissionais, na educação e na informação. Em meio a essa nova concepção, a comunicação também percebe alterações, seja pela interatividade promovida pela midiatização, pelo novo aspecto da audiência, mais exigente e conectada, ou ainda pela hibridização de gêneros e formatos. Neste contexto, surgem programas de entretenimento, especialmente televisivos, que incorporam aspectos técnicos e práticos do jornalismo, incluindo a narrativa e os processos produtivos. Tais programas veiculam um conteúdo denominado de infotenimento, que mescla informação e entretenimento e, assim, a representação jornalística da vida social fica vinculada à distração e ao divertimento. A dissertação faz uma análise do processo de produção do conteúdo noticioso dentro de um programa de entretenimento e variedades que apresenta grande quantidade de conteúdo jornalístico em sua composição: o Hoje Em Dia, da Rede Record. Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo, do tipo estudo de caso, com uso de técnicas de observação direta, entrevistas semiabertas, pesquisa documental e análise de conteúdo. A questão da reprodutibilidade técnica de padrões e a inserção de elementos cotidianos aliados à indústria cultural e à comunicação em massa também é retratada nesta dissertação. A principal intenção é entender como é a dinâmica da produção jornalística em programas que visam entreter e, ao mesmo tempo, informar. De que maneira esses produtos híbridos da modernidade são pensados e como a teoria do infotenimento pode ser aliada às mediações comunicacionais da cultura.

Diploma thesis "Tabloidization of the Czech Daily Press - Changes between 1995 - 2010" deals with continuous process of changes in Czech daily press. The study focuses on national Czech dailies both quality press and tabloid during the period of 1995 to 2010. It tries to explain different aspects that have brought the changes. The goal of this study is to show the tabloidization characteristics with the defined indicators in the quantitative analysis. Based on analysed data it can be concluded that not all dailies chosen show all features of tabloidization. The results of this investigation also indicated that the Czech dailies mostly tend to increase the number of local news and decrease the number of political news.

Diploma thesis "Analysis of the mixed public-private system of the TV broadcasting in France from the aspect of news" deals with the TV broadcasting in France, its development and its present. In the experimental part of this work the author tried to describe the principal TV news broadcast of the two most powerful French TV stations and to compare it to the two corresponding TV stations in the Czech Republic. The goal of this comparison was to find out whether the public and private TV stations news have some features in common, concerning for example its content, types of the reports and other universally established methods, how to attract the TV viewers and to increase the ratings. The author tried to find these principles via the research, to describe them by the comparison of the main evening news broadcast in the chosen nationwide private TV station in France and its corresponding counterparts in the Czech Republic and the subsequent comparison with the parallel pair of public stations. The author of this thesis also deals with the premise, that the private TV stations tend to the "infotainment" - the "funny" way of presenting the news in order to attract the viewers to the screens, often at the expense of its information value. Penetration Testing of an In-Vehicle Infotainment System / Penetrationstestning av ett Infotainmentsystem i Fordon

With the growing demand for smart and luxurious vehicles, the automotive industry has moved toward developing technologies to enhance the in-vehicle user experience. As a result, most vehicles today have a so-called In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) system, or simply an infotainment system, which provides a combination of information and entertainment in one system. IVI systems are used to control, for instance, the audio, navigation, and air conditioning in vehicles. Increasingly more IVI systems are also connected to the internet which has enabled features such as web browsers and third-party apps on them. This raises questions concerning the cybersecurity of IVI systems. As more vehicles are connected to the internet, it increases the risk of vehicles getting hacked. Previous research has shown that it is possible to take control of an entire vehicle by hacking the IVI system. In this thesis, penetration testing was conducted on an IVI system included on a rig from Volvo Cars to find potential vulnerabilities in the system. To the best of the author’s knowledge, this is the first paper describing penetration tests performed on a greater attack surface of the Android Automotive operating system used by the IVI system than previous research which only focused on the attack surface of third-party apps. Moreover, threat modeling was performed by employing the threat analysis and risk assessment part of the ISO/SAE 21434: Road vehicles — Cybersecurity engineering. This has not yet been done in the research area of security of IVI systems as far as the author knows. The results from the various penetration tests show that no major vulnerabilities were discovered in the IVI system. However, several findings were made in the thesis where the main one was that multiple content providers, managing access to storage (e.g., relational databases) in Android, were found to be exported by Android apps on the IVI system, and that some of these were vulnerable to SQL injection. This vulnerability of some of the content providers was exploited but did not lead to any collection of private information. For future work, penetration testing of the cellular interface of the IVI system is suggested. / Med en ökad efterfrågan för smarta och lyxiga fordon så har fordonsindustrin behövt utveckla teknologier som förbättrar användarupplevelsen i fordon. Ett resultat av detta är att de flesta fordon idag har ett så kallat infotainmentsystem vilket kombinerar information och underhållning i ett system. Infotainmentsystem används till exempel för att styra ljudet, navigationen och luftkonditioneringen i fordon. Fler infotainmentsystem börjar också bli uppkopplade mot internet som möjliggör för användare att surfa på internet och ladda ner tredjepartsappar. Detta väcker frågor beträffande cybersäkerheten hos dessa. I takt med att fler fordon blir uppkopplade mot internet så ökar det risken för att fordon blir hackade. Tidigare forskning har visat att det är möjligt att ta kontroll över ett helt fordon genom att hacka infotainmentsystemet. I detta examensarbete har penetrationstestning utförts på ett infotainmentsystem som var inkluderad på en rigg från Volvo Personvagnar för att hitta potentiella säkerhetsbrister i infotainmentsystemet. Till författarens bästa vetskap är denna rapport den första som beskriver om penetrationstester utförda på en större attackyta av operativsystemet Android Automotive som används av infotainmentsystemet än tidigare forskning som bara har fokuserat på tredjepartsappar som attackyta. Hotmodellering har också utförts i examensarbetet enligt ett avsnitt kallad hotanalys och riskbedömning i ISO/SAE 21434: Vägfordon — Process och metod för cybersäkerhet. Detta har ännu inte gjorts inom forskningsområdet säkerhet för infotainmentsystem så vitt författaren känner till. Resultaten från de olika penetrationstesterna visar att inga allvarliga säkerhetsbrister hittades i infotainmentsystemet. Dock gjordes flera upptäckter under examensarbetet där den mest väsentliga var att ett flertal innehållsleverantörer, som hanterar åtkomst till lagring (t.ex. relationsdatabaser) i Android, var exporterade från Android appar på infotainmentsystemet, och att några av dem var sårbara till SQL-injektioner. Denna sårbarhet hos vissa innehållsleverantörer utnyttjades men ledde inte till någon insamling av privat information. Ett förslag för framtida arbeten är att utföra penetrationstestning på det mobila gränssnittet hos infotainmentsystemet.

A Comparative Analysis of User Interfaces in the Calling Functionality of Infotainment Systems among Popular Cars in Romania : Investigating UX and Usability Design Principles for In-car Infotainment Systems.

As cars become more integrated into people’s lives, the design of in-car infotainment systems has become increasingly important. This thesis explores the user experience and Usability design principles of the calling functionality within the infotainment systems of five of the most common cars in Romania. The research examines the design principles that underpin these systems, using the European Statement of Principles on Human-Machine Interface (HMI) as a reference. The primary methodology involved two stages of surveys. The first survey gathered demographic information, car ownership details, and participants' experiences with their infotainment systems. This data was then used to identify the most common cars for the second survey, which further investigated user preferences for different infotainment interfaces. Analysis of the survey results reveals significant patterns in user preferences, with ease of use and convenience emerging as crucial factors in user satisfaction. The study highlights the importance of button placement, interface design, and layout in determining user experience. The most preferred interfaces were those which aligned with HMI principles, emphasizing simplicity, clarity of information, and ease of navigation. Despite certain limitations, such as the small sample size and potential for self-reporting bias, the research provides important insights into user preferences and the impact of design principles on user experience. The findings underscore the need for interface designs that are both user-friendly and align with established HMI guidelines. The implications of these findings extend to the broader fields of Human-Computer Interaction and Automotive User Interfaces, emphasizing the importance of user-centered design in enhancing user experience and satisfaction. Future research could expand upon these findings, exploring the impact of aesthetic design factors and the potential for personalized interface options.

Extended Bluetooth Profiles on CCpilot displays

Bluetooth is used in modern cars to connect smartphones to stream music, to access internet and for phone services such as phone book contacts and making calls. Similar features are now requested by customers of maximatecc's products, e.g. display computers, for offroad vehicles. This thesis is aimed to investigate what is needed to support these features in maximatecc's Linux based displays and how the features can be used in a Qt application. For instance, the connectivity features in personal cars most commonly utilizes the Bluetooth profiles: Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP) Personal Area Network (PAN) Profile Hands Free Profile (HFP) Phone Book Access Profile (PBAP) Message Access Profile (MAP). In Linux operating system the Bluetooth stack Bluez is used in the lower level implementation. Open source software components recommended to implement the above profiles includes: Obexd (for MAP and PBAP) PulseAudio (for A2DP and HFP) oFono (for HFP) Connman (for PAN) all of which help to implement the top level profiles of the Bluetooth stack needed, easily controlled by a Qt application through DBus. Most of the external software components were not possible to add to the Linux image on the CCpilot VA display during the period of the thesis. Instead some features of the profiles have been tested, through a Qt demo and python test scripts, on a Virtual Machine in an environment similar to the CCpilot VA. All profiles tested had some functionality verified except for AVRCP, which is not supported until later versions of Bluez, not available for the Linux kernel on the CCpilot VA. However, the audio in the HFP only occasionally worked. On the CCpilot VA only PBAP was tested successfully.
