O EFEITO DO CONTROLE RESPIRATÓRIO EM VARIÁVEIS ELETROFISIOLÓGICAS DA ATENÇÃO / The effect of respiratory control in electrophisiological variables of attention

LOZANO, MIRNA DELPOSO 07 March 2016 (has links)
Submitted by Timbo Noeme (noeme.timbo@metodista.br) on 2016-08-05T19:19:09Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Mirna Delposo Lozano.pdf: 1463468 bytes, checksum: bbd20a7a5bd6a05109d938c02309c9a0 (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2016-08-05T19:19:09Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Mirna Delposo Lozano.pdf: 1463468 bytes, checksum: bbd20a7a5bd6a05109d938c02309c9a0 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-03-07 / The practice of yoga has become more popular increasingly not only for the physical benefits, but mostly for the psychological well-being brought by its practice. One of the components of yoga is Prãnãyama, or breath control. Attention and breathing are two physiological and involuntary mechanisms required for the implementation of Prãnãyama. The aim of this study was to determine whether continuous variables of EEG (power of different groups that compose it) would be modulated by the respiratory control, comparing both phases, inspiration and expiration, separately. The participants were 19 subjects (7 men/12 women, mean age 36.89, SD = ± 14.46), who were invited to participate in the research at the Faculdade de Saúde da Universidade Metodista de São Paulo. For the record of the EEG a positioning system of five electrodes Ag AgCl (Fpz, Fz, Cz, Pz and Oz) was used, fixed to a fast positioning cap (Quick-Cap, Neuromedical Supplies®) in 10-20 system. Maximum range of power values were obtained (power spectrum in the frequency domain) in theta frequencies, alpha, beta and delta and theta/beta ratio was calculated in the different phases of the respiratory cycle (inspiration and expiration), separately, in spontaneous breathing conditions and respiratory control. For the record of the respiratory cycle, a respiratory effort belt M01 (plethysmograph) was used. The results show significant differences between the conditions of spontaneous and controlled breathing with higher mean values of theta/beta ratio in the inspiration of spontaneous breathing than in controlled breathing, and mean values of alpha power higher in controlled breathing. Significant differences were found in the comparison between inspiration and expiration of controlled breathing with decreased values of the mean of theta/beta ratio in inspiration and an increase in mean values of alpha power in expiration. The findings of this study provide evidence that the respiratory control modulates electrophysiological variables related to attention, reflecting an alert status, but more relaxed compared to the spontaneous breathing situation.

Häger, Mikaela January 2019 (has links)

Inspirace Joyce E. Travelbee pro ošetřovatelství / Joyce Travelbee's Inspiration for Nursing

STASKOVÁ, Věra January 2015 (has links)
Currently there are noticable changes in nursing concepts, shifts in thinking and attitude towards nursing. Unlike in the past, when nursing care was provided in accordance with the biomedical model, current nursing shows attempts at greater use of interaction models reflecting a holistic approach and humanism. This fact was pointed out in the 1960's by Joyce E. Travelbee, a New Orleans psychiatric nurse, educator and nursing theoretician. The disseration intituled 'Joyce E. Travelbee's Inspiration for Nursing' is of theoretical character with the aim of analysing the legacy of Joyce E. Travelbee as a nursing history personality and her work with a tendency to express her significance for nursing. It is concieved as a historical-analytical study and a zpracována formou studia literárního odkazu a jeho analýzy s následným vypracováním interpretativního textu. In connection with the study of literary legacy and its analysis questions, for which the answers were sought, were asked: How did Joyce E. Travelbee reflect current nursing practice? What suggestions did she make in changing current attitude towards patients? What is key to longterm contribution of Joyce E. Travelbee as a theoretitian to the nursing concept? Which of Joyce E. Travelbee's ideas and literary legacies are inspirational for nursing? The contents and meaning of some terms are set out in Chapter 1. Chapter 2 reflects the development of nursing as a theory, science and practice in a chronological order and also on a national and international level, especially the period, in which Joyce E. Travelbee (1926-1973) lived and formulated her ideas. The chapter was conceived in the sense of referring to the ideas and work of individual nursing theoreticians in connection with contributions to nuring theory and practice. Chapter 3 is dedicated to the personality Joyce E. Travelbee, her biography, publishing activity and specialist texts relating to her person and work bases. Chapter 4 interprets the work of Joyce E. Travelbee. The chapter is divided into four sub-chapters with the aim of illustrating the logical sequence in the development of ideas in Joyce E. Travelbee's work. The first part deals with nursing from Joyce E. Travelbee's point of view, in the second part space is given to introduced concepts in Joyce E. Travelbee's work, the third part focusses on the explanation of the human-to-human relationship concept and the fourth part deals with nursing supervision as a tool for forging human relationships. The fifth chapter was concieved with the aim of pointing out the fact that Joyce E. Travelbee's work has been an inspiration for the authors of many publications, research studies, dissertations, contributions on web pages, and for international scientific conferences participants. Interpretation analysis of primary and secondary text sources showed that an inspirational change in nursing is that of nurse-patient and patient-nurse attitudes and the emphasis on satisfying patients' needs as well as nurses' needs. Changes in attitude can be seen in nursing education which should prepare nurses for satisfying patients' emotional and spiritual needs with an emphasis on empathy, sympathy and rapport. One of the possibilities of achieving this change in nurses' education is to include more communicative exercises, philosophy, psychology and the clarification of values in nursing educational programmes the training of nurses in self reflection, critical thinking and carrying out of supervision.

Does the way museum staff define inspiration help them work with information from visitors' Social Media?

Gerrard, David M. January 2016 (has links)
Since the early 2000s, Social Media has become part of the everyday activity of billions of people. Museums and galleries are part of this major cultural change - the largest museums attract millions of Social Media 'friends' and 'followers', and museums now use Social Media channels for marketing and audience engagement activities. Social Media has also become a more heavily-used source of data with which to investigate human behaviour. Therefore, this research investigated the potential uses of Social Media information to aid activities such as exhibition planning and development, or fundraising, in museums. Potential opportunities provided by the new Social Media platforms include the ability to capture data at high volume and then analyse them computationally. For instance, the links between entities on a Social Media platform can be analysed. Who follows who? Who created the content related to a specific event, and when? How did communication flow between people and organisations? The computerised analysis techniques used to answer such questions can generate statistics for measuring concepts such as the 'reach' of a message across a network (often equated simply with the potential size of the a message's audience) or the degree of 'engagement' with content (often a simple count of the number of responses, or the number of instances of communication between correspondents). Other computational analysis opportunities related to Social Media rely upon various Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques; for example indexing content and counting term frequency, or using lexicons or online knowledge bases to relate content to concepts. Museums, galleries and other cultural organisations have known for some time, however, that simple quantifications of their audiences (the number of tickets sold for an exhibition, for example), while certainly providing indications of an event's success, do not tell the whole story. While it is important to know that thousands of people have visited an exhibition, it is also part of a museum's remit to inspire the audience, too. A budding world-class artist or ground-breaking engineer could have been one of the thousands in attendance, and the exhibition in question could have been key to the development of their artistic or technical ideas. It is potentially helpful to museums and galleries to know when they have inspired members of their audience, and to be able to tell convincing stories about instances of inspiration, if their full value to society is to be judged. This research, undertaken in participation with two museums, investigated the feasibility of using new data sources from Social Media to capture potential expressions of inspiration made by visitors. With a background in IT systems development, the researcher developed three prototype systems during three cycles of Action Research, and used them to collect and analyse data from the Twitter Social Media platform. This work had two outcomes: firstly, prototyping enabled investigation of the technical constraints of extracting data from a Social Media platform (Twitter), and the computing processes used to analyse that data. Secondly, and more importantly, the prototypes were used to assess potential changes to the work of museum staff information about events visited and experienced by visitors was synthesised, then investigated, discussed and evaluated with the collaborative partners, in order to assess the meaning and value of such information for them. Could the museums use the information in their event and exhibition planning? How might it fit in with event evaluation? Was it clear to the museum what the information meant? What were the risks of misinterpretation? The research made several contributions. Firstly, the research developed a definition of inspiration that resonated with museum staff. While this definition was similar to the definition of 'engagement' from the marketing literature, one difference was an emphasis upon creativity. The second set of contributions related to a deeper understanding of Social Media from museums' perspective, and included findings about how Social Media information could be used to segment current and potential audiences by 'special interest', and find potential expressions of creativity and innovation in the audience's responses to museum activities. These findings also considered some of the pitfalls of working with data from Social Media, in particular the tendency of museum staff to use the information to confirm positive biases, and the often hidden biases caused by the mediating effects of the platforms from which the data came. The final major contribution was a holistic analysis of the ways in which Social Media information could be integrated into the work of a museum, by helping to plan and evaluate audience development and engagement. This aspect of the research also highlighted some of the dangers of an over-dependency upon individual Social Media platforms which was previously absent from the museums literature.

The creative process : a journey of self-discovery through creative writing

Javeri, Sabyn January 2016 (has links)
This PhD submission constitutes a novel and accompanying critical commentary. My novel Nobody Killed Her provides an alternative history of the assassination of Pakistan's only female Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto. The thesis questions the choices I made in order to develop the writing of this novel and the decisions I took in order for it to reach its readers. I discuss the issues of creative integrity and the role of the publisher as an enabler, and as a modern day censor. I examine the role of literary influences and publishing pressures on the multi-layered and shifting strains of the creative process and explore fiction as a powerful tool for communicating the paradoxical state of modern Pakistani women, which my novel draws upon. Accordingly, my research narrative is interspersed with personal vignettes that helped shape my writing. Reflecting upon the role of memory, history and politics, and literary influences that shape our writing, I try to interrogate the ‘flash-bulb’ moments of inspiration and argue that creative writing is actually a series of complex thought processes that shape our consciousness. I have also, during the compilation of this essay, looked critically at the role of the publisher in shaping an author’s creativity and the author’s desire for publication in influencing his or her creative choices. I have examined the role of the audience, by asking who the writer is writing for, concluding that the creative journey is more important than the destination i.e., the culmination of the writing into a published form. I conclude by contending that creative writing is above all communication, not just with the reader but also with one’s self. It is about self- expression and therefore must remain true to the self.

"omg like srsly" : Hur SMS och meddelanden kan användas som inspirationskälla till låttexter inom popmusik / ”omg like srsly" : How SMS and messages can be used as inspiration for lyrics in pop music.

Björkvall, Oliver January 2018 (has links)

Watch Out : En undersökning om hur tid påverkar låtars musikaliska element

Andersson, Daniel January 2018 (has links)

Naddaf, Gerard 09 April 2018 (has links)
--- Some Reflections on the Early Greek Notion of Poetic Inspiration”. The origin and meaning of poetic inspiration” has always been the subject of considerable controversy. What critics rarely ask are: what words or phrases did the early poetic texts use to express the poetic genius or mousikē we associate with inspiration in the early Greek poetry, and thus prior to the Classical period? In this paper, I examine first and foremost both the terminology employed by Homer and Hesiod to express the poetic experience and the role of the aoidos or singer/poet in their respective accounts. I argue that not only are the physical and figurative notions of inspiration” in Homer and Hesiod confused, that is, they are not consciously distinguished for the poets, but poetry itself for Homer and Hesiod must have been seen as a divine gift –as willed by the gods. I also argue that a number of etymologies and contexts strongly suggest that a type of mania or ecstatic possession was very much a part of the early poetic process. The work presented here is an abridged part of a larger research project that seeks to examine the origin and development of pre-Platonic, Platonic and postPlatonic attitudes toward inspiration and allegory.

Bild som arbetssätt i SO

Roos, Madelene, Stevanovic, Indira January 2018 (has links)
