Previous issue date: 2018-11-26 / The central theme of this study is the coverage of full protection and the
analysis of necessary public policies, their strategies, mechanisms and
instruments of action and its respective responsibility relationship to the
promotion of adolescents’ rescue conflicting with the Law and their posterior
social-familiar reinsertion, as an egress of internment social-educative
measure. Therefore, this work stems from, initially, the investigation of a
child’s and adolescent’s social trajectory, the influences and determinations of
social inequality relationships and its respective juridical-social support from
the protection special system. Henceforth, there is the compliance of the
special custody as an expression of collateral for this full protection and
absolute priority, guided by the right to freedom, equality, social inclusion,
non-discrimination, proper legal process and human dignity. Considering the
insertion of this juvenile in the System of Assurance of Child and Adolescent
Rights, the infractional act, the social-educative measures – notably the
internment one, the service policy, the socio-educational process and the
egress condition, the objective becomes the framework of needed social
protection, under the form of a special attention network, as an emancipatory
condition, capable of conducting him or her to the respective rehabilitation.
Diverse bibliographic and documental researches were used, besides the
indication of data as situational milestones of national reality and, specially, of
the State of Alagoas, for analysis and formulation of challenges and action
strategies before confront policies / O tema central deste estudo é a abrangência da proteção integral e a análise
prioridade absoluta, pautadas no direito à liberdade, à igualdade, à inclusão
Criança e do Adolescente, o ato infracional, as medidas socioeducativas -
enfrentamento

Escolarização de adolescentes em cumprimento de medida socioeducativa de internação: estudo bibliográfico / Schooling of adolescents in fulfillment of the internment social-educational institution: a bibliographical studyAline Menezes de Barros 01 July 2015 (has links)
This study hadas theme the schooling in the brazilian socio-educational system. It was found that the schooling to adolescents institutionalized in socio-educational unitsof deprived freedom presents all the ills of schooling extramural, and incorporates, a lot of time, punitive aspects, repressive and disciplinarians of internmentof units. The schooling have not been realized to ensure this right to adolescents. This study signalized national referrals to the enactment of the National Guidelines to schooling in socio educational units, which tend to soften this situation. To hide the low quality of the school and deny the rights to qualitative schooling, it understands that the adolescents experience the lack rights to schooling, leaving these only the precarious inclusion in the education system, and posteriorly, the process of victim guilt, based on meritocratic discourse, that reaffirms the adolescent as disinterested to school, incapable to follow own process of schooling and badly behaved, because only interested in new infractions.

The Trauma of the Nikkei's Internment in John Okada's No-No Boy and Joy Kogawa's ObasanTsai, Shu-min 07 September 2004 (has links)
Abstract
In a 1997 review, James Berger not only clearly points out the proliferation of trauma study in the 1990s but also professes that the representation of trauma would be more easily detected, analysized, and understood with immersion in literary texts. Therefore, in this thesis, I draw upon the ideas of historical trauma, psychological trauma, structural trauma and trauma responses in the five theoretical works¡XJudith Lewis Herman¡¦s Trauma and Recover (1992), Ronald Granofsky¡¦s The Trauma Novel: Contemporary Symbolic Depictions of Collective Disaster (1995), Tedeschi, Richard G. and Lawrence G. Calhoun¡¦s Trauma and Transformation: Growing in the Aftermath of Suffering (1995), Cathy Caruth¡¦s Unclaimed Experience: Trauma, Narrative, and History (1996) and Dominick LaCapra¡¦s Writing History, Writing Trauma (2001)¡Xto analysize the issue of trauma as revealed in John Okada¡¦s No-No Boy and Joy Kogawa¡¦s Obasan. The two texts differ in time and space but share the same historical trauma evoked by the aftereffect of the war and the violence of the governments¡¦ racially-oriented discrimination policy that results in the Nikkei¡¦s psychological trauma. Okada presents white American racial ascendancy in the 1950s, while Kogawa tackles Canadian governmental dominance in the 1980s. Both writers are concerned with the relationship between collective persecution and individual trauma during/after World War Two and both try to empower as well as give voice to those who have been traumatized by social and familial forces.
Reading the two novels as an exploration of the Nikkei¡¦s postwar experience, this thesis first contends that underlying the Nikkei¡¦s trauma is the internment experience that leads to the occurrence of racial discrimination and identity crisis in the Nikkei community. Secondly, in the light of historical trauma and psychological trauma, this thesis analyzes the trauma responses which normally take shapes in the forms of conflict, avoidance, guilt, flashbacks, dreams, numbing or amnesia in the minds of traumatized people after long years of struggling. However, instead of regarding these responses to be obstacles, this thesis proposes that the trauma responses are great reinforcement for the survivors to cope with the trauma memory and to reconcile with the trauma history. Through discussion of trauma response, this thesis suggests that the Nikkei would work through the process of experiencing the symptoms of trauma and slowly reach the level of recovery and transformation. That is, a resolution of the Nikkei¡¦s rebirth would be possible when the Nikkei overcome the threat of trauma and develop a hope of reconciliation for their upcoming future.

Beyond Facts and Formality: How Different Genres Remember Japanese American Experiences During World War IIIshizuka, Midori 01 January 2015 (has links)
This thesis will compare and contrast how different genres tell the stories of Japanese American experiences during World War II. In the 1980s and 1990s the emergence of different genres such as memoirs, historical fiction, and documentaries, inspired a fresh approach to portraying history. Using the traditional historical monograph as a foil, this thesis will analyze how these newer genres can deepen our understanding of historic events and peoples on a personal, psychological, and emotional level. Topics of medium, authorship, affect, influence, and authenticity are commonly discussed in the comparisons of these genres. Each chapter will focus on one genre and analyze two works. Chapter 1 on memoirs examines Farewell to Manzanar by Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston and Nisei Memories by Paul Howard Takemoto. Chapter 2 on historical fiction will compare David Guterson’s narrative fiction novel Snow Falling on Cedars and Alan Parker’s narrative film Come See the Paradise. Chapter 3 on documentaries will discuss Ken Burns’ The War and Steven Okazaki’s Unfinished Business. Ultimately, while each work and each genre is unique, the significant commonality among them is their ability to expose the intimate and emotional aspects of historical experiences. This, in turn, prompts our engagement and emotional connection to the portrayed stories, which heightens our understanding of history in a more holistic way.

This study has for thematic the adolescence in conflict with the law, specifically a
study of adolescents receiving by socio-educational internment. Anchored on the
theories of sociology of absences, which aims to guarantee that the nonexistent is
actually built out of existence; the theory of public invisibility that means the social
visibility as a condition of the affirmation of human nature; and the theory of resilience
that conceives the overcoming the adversities of life as the end product of a process
of interaction between the subject and protection mechanisms available to it, this
multiple case study aims to analyze how possible resilience processes experienced
by adolescents receiving by socio-educational internment do or do not interfere
processes of re-social-educational system, from the experience of three adolescents
in recividism and three teenagers who went through the UNIS and don`t commit
another crime. The main results of this survey indicate that socio-educational
internment is shown as a risk rather than protection of the adolescent, that because
all respondents to the significance of the experience was just suffering. What
differentiates, perversely, the paths of adolescents who re-offend or not the fragile
protection mechanisms outside the state. In this sense, the role of the family during
and after the socio-educational internment, religion and the technical defense that
was available to adolescents in the judicial process. It was possible, therefore, that all
adolescents interviewed demonstrated the will to overcome adversity, however, only
those who are not reoccur protection mechanisms that could support such a
decision.

The dispossession of Japanese Canadians on Saltspring IslandSmallshaw, Brian 04 May 2017 (has links)
During World War Two, 77 Japanese Canadians were uprooted from Saltspring Island, and eleven properties were taken from them and later liquidated. The largest belonged to Torazo Iwasaki, and was purchased by the agent for the Custodian of Enemy Property, Gavin Mouat. In contradiction to the widely held view that Japanese Canadians were stoic and accepting of the injustice they faced, a number of Japanese Canadian Saltspringers fiercely resisted what was being done to them. The Iwasaki family launched a court case against the government in 1967 that went all the way to the Supreme Court, and in the face of continued racism the Murakami family returned to Saltspring to rebuild their lives. This thesis investigates the position of the Japanese Canadians in the settler society on Saltspring and how racisms were manifested within it, the government’s decision to liquidate Japanese Canadian properties, and the resistance and resilience of some of the island’s Japanese Canadians. Racist politicians, including the MLA representing the island, were calling for the removal of Japanese Canadians from the west coast. They led the drive to ethnically cleanse British Columbia, but their success depended on the cooperation and acquiescence of many others. This microhistory explains how this process took place on Saltspring Island, while examining the larger story of the decision to liquidate and challenging the legality of the government’s actions. Seventy-five years after the uprooting, a frank acknowledgment of past injustices will be necessary for the full reconciliation of Japanese Canadian survivors and the Saltspring community. / Graduate / 2019-03-26 / 0334 0631

Avaliação da hipertrigliceridemia em equinos internados e o uso da nutrição clínica como suporte ao tratamento / Evaluation of hypertriglyceridemia in hospitalized horses and the use of clinical nutrition as support for the treatmentDaniela Pereira Lima 26 July 2013 (has links)
The hyperlipemia cause serious complications for hospitalized horses, especially when associated with stress, diseases and traumas. Conventional treatments with solutions of heparin, 5% glucose, insulin, among others, have been used in susceptible equine, but they are asked about their real purpose. The interest and research on the use of clinical nutrition in the horse, especially parenteral nutrition, growing. Its action is to avoid disease and catabolism by regulating the negative energy balance, including serving as adjuvant therapies have been implemented in the treatment of primary disease, providing the basic nutritional requirement for the maintenance and recovery of the body. To evaluate the effectiveness of parenteral nutrition solutions in horses that developed hyperlipidemia during hospitalization were evaluated 14 horses treated for various diseases and who had serum triglycerides (TG) above 150mg/dl. The same were divided into two groups: control group (G1), without interference from management and treatment group (G2), which received partial parenteral nutrition without lipids. Such solutions were composed of 50% glucose, 10% amino acid, trace elements, electrolytes and vitamin and were infused until resolution of hyperlipidemia. The animals of both groups were monitored daily in relation to blood glucose, triglycerides and cholesterol. The median reduction in TG G1 was 209.2 ± 131.9 hours and G2 was 34.9 ± 41.8 hours, with no statistical difference between them. Cholesterol values did not follow the elevation of TG. In relation to weight loss and body score, both groups decreased during hospitalization, with no statistical difference between them. No animals developed hyperlipidemia G2, unlike the G1, in which five horses had, at some time in hospital, triglycerides greater than 500mg/dl. Although other criteria should be used to select patients in need of such treatment primarily due to cost and the need for constant monitoring, it is concluded that parenteral nutrition is a rapid and reliable method for the prevention of hyperlipemia with hyperlipidemia in horses during the hospitalization for other diseases.

"Evangelines of 1946": the exile of Nikkei from Canada to occupied Japan.Timmons, D. J. 18 August 2011 (has links)
During the Second World War, Japanese Canadians were uprooted from their homes along the coast of British Columbia and forced to leave the province. In 1946, almost 4,000 individuals were exiled to Japan. The Canadian government deemed their departure ‘voluntary,’ and labelled them ‘disloyal’ to Canada. However, a close reading of the evidence illustrates that ‘loyalty’ had little to do with their departure, and exposes the intent of federal and provincial officials to forcefully remove Nikkei from B.C. For those exiled to occupied Japan, life was filled with hardship and many were forced into difficult or unfamiliar situations. Many longed to return to Canada, but faced numerous restrictions, while others prospered and stayed in Japan for the duration of their lives. This thesis examines the experiences of many of those exiled to Japan, and explores the process by which the Canadian government facilitated their forced removal from B.C. and Canada. / Graduate

The Archaeology of Social Ties and Community Formation in a World War II Japanese American Incarceration CenterJanuary 2020 (has links)
abstract: People come together and form communities in cities across the world but the processes behind community formation are not well understood. Some researchers theorize that having populations with similar characteristics is important; others argue that the existence of public spaces for interaction is key. I use archaeological data collected over six seasons of field work and archival data from The Granada Relocation Center (Amache) National Historic Landmark, a World War II (WWII) Japanese American incarceration center in Southeastern Colorado, to demonstrate the role that participation in previous social communities has on the formation of new social networks. The concept of social cohesion acts as a framework for understanding how access to public spaces and participation in different types of social activities creates a sense of neighborhood community among a dislocated population.
During WWII Japanese Americans were forcibly removed from their homes on the West Coast to ten incarceration centers, disrupting existing communities and forcing the formation of new ones. Amache is one of ten incarceration centers which housed families and individuals. The site resembled an urban center with public facilities and residential areas that functioned as neighborhoods. Archival and archaeological data indicate that residents developed socially defined neighborhoods. Internees modified each neighborhood through the creation of landscape features and development of social activity which provided a venue for residents to interact and form a sense of community identity.
Neighborhood residents clustered based on their affiliation to previous communities both in California and in the temporary detention centers. Clustering in demographically similar neighborhoods facilitated the development of new social interactions and led to the proliferation of landscape features and social events seen in the archaeological and archival record. I identify patterns of neighborhood interaction through an examination of the archaeological record and social network analysis using archival newspapers. Applying archaeological data in partnership with social network data illustrates the range of strategies used by incarcerees to create new communities and problematizes working with a single data source when attempting to identify socially defined neighborhoods. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Anthropology 2020
