Women Who Survived Childhood Sexual Abuse: Do Their Coping Strategies Vary by Personality Type as Measured by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator?

Jahn, Linda 12 1900 (has links)
Through a phenomenological qualitative approach, this study examined possible differences of introverted versus extraverted adult female survivors of childhood sexual abuse with regard to the coping mechanisms they chose. Preference modalities of introversion and extraversion were measured by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and data was collected through a semi-structured interview designed by the researcher. The interview contained questions about the 21 subjects' perceptions of their abuse and the ways in which they coped. Specific coping mechanisms included but were not limited to eating disorders, alcohol and/or drug abuse, high risk behavior, depression, anxiety, and somatic complaints. Results indicated that for both groups, the degree to which each of the individual coping mechanisms was used congregated at the level of "a driven pattern of behavior lasting for at least 7 days" or "on-going use resulting in severe problems". Extraverts showed higher percentages of severe use of the six coping mechanisms than did introverts. Depression was the most frequently used coping mechanism of both the introverts and the extraverts. Introverts showed higher percentages of stopping the use of eating disorders, alcohol/drug abuse, high risk behavior, and depression. Extraverts had higher percentages of discontinued use of anxiety and somatic problems. Introverts reported more somatic complaints, while extraverts reported more severe somatic problems. The most often reported somatic complaints of both groups were arthritis, migraines, sleep difficulty, nightmares, and gastrointestinal problems. The majority of each group used most of the coping mechanisms at some time, suggesting a need for therapeutic intervention that considers the possibility of difficulties stemming from combined use of many of these coping mechanisms in addition to focusing on the trauma of the sexual abuse itself.

Možnosti analýzy online sociálních sítí na příkladu výzkumu chování uživatelů Facebooku v závislosti na jejich temperamentu / Possibilities of social network analysis based on the research of Facebook users' behaviour according to their temperament

Šemberová, Kristina January 2011 (has links)
Temperament is a determining factor of people's behaviour in everyday life. Does it show itself also online? Does introversial and extraversial behaviour in online networks differ? Some authors in their studies confirmed that introverts feel more secure in online networks and thus behave more like extraverts, similar effect have networks on behaviour of extraverts. Other authors proved empirically, that introversial users in virtual environment and online networks become more socially isolated and solitary. These studies were in principle conducted on American or Brittish colleges or universities, we have no similar research in Czech Republic. For this thesis, behaviour research and temperament identification questionnaire was filled up by 310 people of average age of 29 years, 2/3 were women, most of them live and work in Prague in media, marketing and public relations. Research results showed that 46% of users were present on Facebook for more than 2 years, extraverts actively participate in more networks, behaviour of introverts and extraverts on Facebook is really different as well as their way of using it, sometimes we can find very surprising details. First part of the thesis contains information about theoretical background - networks, social networks, online networks, ways and methods of...

The Relationship between sense of coherence, learned resourcefulness and personality type among technical personnel

Du Toit, François Stephanus 30 September 2002 (has links)
This research study determined the relationship between personality, as measured by the Myers and Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and sense of coherence and learned resourcefulness. The study was conducted among one hundred technical workers within the context of organizational transformation and the ability to cope with resulting stress. Data was collected by means of the Myers and Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), the Orientation to Life Questionnaire (OLQ) and the Self-control Schedule (SCS). The research found that sense of coherence can be predicted at a 5% significance level, while learned resourcefulness cannot be predicted. Extraverts, sensers, thinkers and judgers seem to cope better with stress-provoking demands. The respective personality types probably make use of different coping mechanisms under the same circumstances. Personality type seems to predict sense of coherence, but factors other than personality type could have an Influence. / Industrial and Organisational Psychology / M.Comm. (industrial Psychology)

Н. Ельцина : магистерская диссертация / Adaptation of Foreign Students at the Ural Federal University named after the First President of Russia B. N. Yeltsin

Е., Bezruk, Y. Y. January 2024 (has links)
The object of the work is the psychological adaptation of foreign students of the Ural Federal University named after the first president B. N. Yeltsin. The subject of the work is the relationship of psychological adaptation of foreign students with their level of awareness and temperament. The master’s thesis consists of an introduction, two chapters, a conclusion, a list of literature and applications. The work contains 104 pages, 9 drawings and 9 tables. The introduction reveals the relevance of the problem of adaptation of foreign students in the context of globalization and intercultural exchange, highlights the development of integration issues in a multinational educational environment, which underlines the importance of research for educational practices. The first chapter contains a theoretical overview of the studied aspects of psychological adaptation, the role of the typology of personality orientation of Carl Jung and awareness in adaptation, as well as information about the specifics of psychological adaptation of foreign students. The second chapter focuses on empirical research, including Spearman’s correlation analysis to determine the relationship between cognition, temperament, and adaptation. ANOVA is used to compare the levels of adaptation and features of taking yourself between students of different courses. Regression analysis is used to study changes in cognition and temperament at different stages of learning. Cluster analysis preliminarily analyzes the data and identifies the main trends and differences between students from different regions. In conclusion, the main results of the work, confirming the importance of awareness and temperament in the process of adaptation of foreign students are presented. The work contributes to the theory and practice of psychological adaptation by offering recommendations for the development of programs supporting foreign students. The master’s thesis describes a study aimed at studying the process of psychological adaptation of foreign students at the Ural Federal University. The relevance of the topic is due to the importance of adaptation issues against the background of globalization and intercultural interaction in the modern educational space. The study covers various aspects of psychological adaptation, including theoretical approaches, personality typology by Jung, as well as features and problems of adaptation of foreigners in the Russian context. The analysis revealed that awareness and temperament play a key role in the successful adaptation of students. It is especially worth noting awareness as the main factor of adaptation, emphasizing the importance of developing skills of attentiveness and reflection among students. Multidimensional analysis has shown that the impact of awareness on adaptation varies from course to course. It has the greatest impact in the third year, indicating the accumulation of the necessary skills by that time, which is critical for adaptation in later periods of training. While temperament has the greatest influence on the fourth year, emphasizing the importance of personality characteristics at a more mature stage of learning. Differences analysis (ANOVA) has confirmed statistically significant differences in the levels of adaptation between students of different courses and has shown how awareness and temperament influence these levels, indicating the variability of the adaptation process at different learning times. The study emphasizes the need to integrate awareness programmes into the curriculum, especially for initial courses, to support the adaptation of students from the very beginning of their studies. It is also important to consider the individual characteristics of students, including temperament, when developing supportive activities, as these factors significantly influence adaptation at all stages of learning. In the process of analysis of the psychological adaptation of foreign students cluster analysis was applied to determine the main characteristics of adaptation models related to students from different regions of the world. The results highlighted three key clusters, each representing different levels of adaptation and related psychological features. Thus, the results of the thesis make an important contribution to the development of the theory and practice of psychological adaptation of foreign students, increasing the understanding of the mechanisms that contribute to successful adaptation. Recommendations developed on the basis of the study can serve as a basis for improving support programs, contributing to the academic success and personal growth of students, as well as strengthening intercultural dialogue and increasing the attractiveness of Russia as a country for international education.

Trädsligheter - Hotell i Mariefred / Treeishness - Hotel in Mariefred

Eygun Kihlberg, Adrian January 2015 (has links)
The basis of the project was the assignment of creating a small hotel in the town of Mariefred that would relate to the town in a meaningful way. To handle the conflicting needs of the hotel typology consisting of - on the one hand public, vibrant parts and on the other hand private, quiet hotel rooms - the project took inspiration from the trees in the assigned site which gave peace to a relatively lively place. The hotel’s various rooms, group of rooms and the plan has thus been inspired by a tree analogy.  The project also has examined a plan characterised of rooms and functions connected in a flow with minimised space solely dedicated for circulation. Groups of rooms with specific functions is organised according to presumed flows of guests, staff and other logistics. Flexibility in the plan was also part of the process with the result of a big variety of interconnected hotel rooms and the possibility of temporary additional programs on the ground floor.  A significant challenge in the process was to let the tree analogy stay as an inspiration for meaningful architecture without being pretentious. Another big challenge was to get the flowing, flexible room relationships to a functional floor plan and still be able to develop the project architecturally otherwise.
