Triangular Systems and Factorized Gröbner Bases

Gräbe, Hans-Gert 25 January 2019 (has links)
In a preceding paper [9] we reported on some experience with a new version of the well known Gröbner algorithm with factorization and constraint inequalities. Here we discuss, how this approach may be refined to produce triangular systems in the sense of [12] and [13]. Such a refinement guarantees, different to the usual Gröbner factorizer, to produce a quasi prime decomposition, i.e. the resulting components are at least pure dimensional radical ideals. As in [9] our method weakens the usual restriction to lexicographic term orders. Triangular systems are a very helpful tool between factorization at a heuristical level and full decomposition into prime components. Our approach grew up from a consequent interpretation of the algorithmic ideas in [5] as a delayed quotient computation in favour of early use of (multivariate) factorization. It is implemented in version 2.2 of the REDUCE package CALI [8].

I väntans tider : En litteraturstudie om patientens upplevelse av att vänta på en njurtransplantation / Time of waiting : A literature study about the patient's experience of waiting for a kidney transplant

Måttgård, Anna, Stridh, Tiina January 2020 (has links)
Background: Kidney transplantation is seen as the main treatment method for terminal kidney failure as it increases both quality of life and longevity of the patient compared to dialysis. The prevalence of kidney failure is increasing worldwide and the demand for kidneys is not meeting the need. Aim: The aim of the study was to highlight the patient's experience while waiting for a kidney transplant. Method: The study was conducted as a literature study with an inductive approach to form an idea of what the research situation looks like in the chosen area. Result: The result is based on nine qualitative articles from seven different countries where four categories emerged: A life that limits, Expectations, Joy and sorrow and Need and importance of support. Common to all articles was that life was limited while waiting for a kidney transplant, which affected the patients both emotionally and physiologically. The longer the patients were on the waiting list, the less hope for a new kidney diminished and the feeling of frustration and anxiety increased. Conclusion: The literature study shows that the need for information from the nurse to patients waiting for a kidney transplant was great. Information created a sense of participation in care which in turn preserved the patient's hope and reduced the experience of anxiety.

Passformskommunikation : En kvantitativ undersökning om hur passform kan kommuniceras till konsument via hemsidor

Andersson, Madeleine January 2021 (has links)
The world is becoming increasingly digital and shopping for clothes via the internet is a matter of course for many today. The survey aims to explore how companies communicate fit to the consumer, whether they conduct online sales or only use their websites to expose their range. This study will examine which tools are commonly used, how they can be combined and what they convey to the consumer. A literature review is the basis for the study and in the next step, a quantitative sample survey has taken place where 45 companies that provide tops for women / men have been examined. In the last step, a theoretical survey where the tools have been compared against factors that affect fit has been performed to clarify what each tool communicates. The research on which the study is based clarifies the problem of fit communication as this can be considered a subjective subject where physical and mental values affect how the consumer experiences fit. The results show that most companies use body measurements in combination with image illustrations to clarify the garment's fit. The results of the theoretical survey show that visual and virtual tools give the consumer a better indication of the garment's fit.

Specifications for the Development of Effective Academic Vocabulary Activities in Intensive English Programs

Garrett, Jared Nathan 06 July 2010 (has links) (PDF)
With the new curriculum at the English Language Center (ELC) at Brigham Young University (BYU) including a program focused specifically on preparing students to succeed in academic institutions wherein the language of instruction is English, a need for a systematic approach to vocabulary instruction was identified. Specifically, the Academic Program focuses on the Academic Word List (AWL) in order to provide a broad base of words that can best prepare students for the academic world. This project followed the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate) to craft a systematic approach to developing vocabulary learning activities. An analysis of existing gaps in the Academic Program's vocabulary learning objectives, along with an examination of teachers' attitudes and understanding, was conducted. A similar need was also proposed as existing in many Intensive English Programs (IEPs) around the world. This was followed by research into effective principles of L2 vocabulary learning, through which four principles were distilled. These principles are: the use of a variety of strategies, multiple exposures to target words, practice that includes production, and the need for flexibility and practicality in the vocabulary activities. These four principles became the guiding principles in the development of a system for creating effective vocabulary learning activities. This system and many suggested activities comprise a guide, or set of specifications, that can be used by teachers at IEPs, with a specific eye to the ELC to effectively, and with little extra effort, create and utilize their own effective vocabulary learning activities.

Development of National Drug Policy in the State of Kuwait

Alali, Khaled Y.A.A January 2016 (has links)
This Thesis examines the benefits and usefulness of a National Drug Policy (NDP) for the developing of the Health Care System in Kuwait. The NDP is one of the most important structures of the Health System which can lead to improved health services by establishing guidelines, proposals and directives to organize, structure and regulate health legislation; it is of help to ensure the availability of quality, safety and efficacy in using medicines and it can reduce the irrational use of medicines. The NDP is a frame work between the government, schools and universities, media, health professionals, pharmaceutical industries and companies and public. It is cooperation between the public and private sectors to achieve the goal of access to good quality medicines for all. However there are many key factors which need to be examined before the National Drug Policy is introduced and these are considered the baseline for establishing a good policy, and includes; selection of essential drugs, affordability of drugs, drug financing, supply management, drug regulation, rational use of drugs, drugs registration, purchasing of drugs, health research and human resource development. During this research study from 2012 – 2015 several visits to the public and private health areas, were undertaken. At this time there were discussions with 121 health professionals and data was collected and this indicated that in Kuwait there are no such policies. This is despite the availability of financial means, specialized human resources and the existence of the ministerial decisions and regulations governing the health sector in both public and private, whether hospitals, health centers, pharmacies and health departments. In addition it is suggested that the process of a good NDP should be built around 3 main components which includes: 1.Development, 2. Implementation and 3. Monitoring and Evaluation. Therefore the establishing of a NDP without implementation and monitoring is not enough and does not achieve the desired results. The aim of this Thesis is to establish a NDP in the State of Kuwait. This policy is necessary for the State of Kuwait to ensure development an improvement of the Health Care System and ensure better health for population.

Assessing extinction risk across the geographic ranges of plant species in Europe

Holz, Hanna, Segar, Josiane, Valdez, Jose, Staude, Ingmar R. 11 July 2023 (has links)
Societal Impact Statement Plants play fundamental roles in ecosystems, yet merely 10% of species have an assessment of their global extinction risk. Through the integration of national Red Lists and comprehensive global plant distribution data, we identify previously unassessed plant species in Europe that are threatened throughout their geographic range and thus at risk of global extinction. Our workflow can be replicated to facilitate the integration of disparate national monitoring efforts around the world and help accelerate global plant risk assessments. Summary • A comprehensive extinction risk assessment for plant species is a global biodiversity target. However, currently, only 10% of plant diversity is assessed in the global Red List of Threatened Species. To guide conservation and restoration actions in times of accelerated species extinction, plant risk assessments must be expedited. • Here, we examine the extinction risk of vascular plant species in Europe through the integration of two data streams: (1) national Red Lists and (2) global plant distribution data from Kew's Plants of the World Online database. For each species listed on a national Red List, we create a list of countries that form part of its range and indicate the threat status in these countries, allowing us to calculate the percentage of the range in which a given species is listed as threatened. • We find that 7% to 9% of European vascular plant diversity is threatened in its entire range, the majority of which are single-country endemics. Of these globally threatened species, 84% currently have no assessment in the global Red List. • With increasing national biodiversity monitoring commitments shaping the post- 2020 policy environment, we anticipate that integrating national Red Lists with global plant distribution data is a scalable workflow that can help accelerate global risk assessments of plants.
