Divine mercy and judgement in Exodus 34:6-7 and a selection of its echoes

Pokrifka-Joe, Hyunhye Junia January 2004 (has links)
This thesis is a study of the theological relationship between divine mercy and judgment in the attribute formula of Exodus 34:6-7 and in three of its "echoes" (Numbers 14:18, Isaiah 53:4-12 with 54:7-10, and Nahum 1:3). The primary scholarly interlocutor for this study is Walter Brueggemann. In his Theology of the Old Testament, Brueggemann offers an alternative interpretation of how mercy and judgment are related in these texts. Against Brueggemann, this study defends the view that in Ex 34:6-7 and these three echoes, divine mercy and judgment are not only mutually compatible but also are integrated with one another. I reach this conclusion by means of an exegesis of the above four texts that is canonical, theological, and contextual. The introduction Chapter 1 includes a survey of relevant scholarly literature, an analysis of relevant aspects of Brueggemann's work, and a statement of the canonical method employed in the thesis. Chapter 2 provides a theological exegesis of Exodus 34:6- 7 in the context of Exodus 32-34. Chapters 3-5 offer theological exegesis of the three echo-texts noted above. Chapter 6 offers a conclusion, summarising the argument and making some final observations.

[en] THE DISABLED PEOPLE IN POPE FRANCIS PONTIFICATE: A MERCIFUL LOOK / [pt] A PESSOA COM DEFICIÊNCIA NO PONTIFICADO DO PAPA FRANCISCO: UM OLHAR MISERICORDIOSO

LUCIANA DALL ORTO LUCENA DE SOUZA 08 March 2017 (has links)
[en] The disabled people are great persons because they are givers and not takers. They can teach us to live a life with joy and laughter in spite of the pain. Pope Francis is conscious that the cause of the pain has to do with a throw-away culture. That is why he always reminds everybody to hear the voices of our brothers and sisters who are poor, sick, marginalized. He wants to promote the culture of encounter because the culture of encounter is the opposite of the throw-away culture whose victims are precisely the weakest and most fragile human beings. To see the world through the lens of encounter is to realize a presence of a merciful God who first encounters us in love. Pope Francis encourages us to take the disabled person on as Good Samaritans, with solidarity, charity and mercy. He says that we don t have to fear of opening the doors and going out to encounter, serving with love and tenderness especially the disabled people because they are true resources of humanity.

Rudi Augusto Krüger 05 August 2013 (has links)
There is a high probability of having faith communities in our day as the one described in Acts of the Apostles, in which there was no need. What do we lack? Examining the leaders of the early church as well as the life and example of Jesus, generosity was something striking and decisive to determine their actions. But where did this come from? The Old Testament makes it abundantly clear that from the beginning the Creator and God of Israel had in mind a society of justice. These measures and provisions are found in innumerous passages of the Pentateuch, they are praised in the books of wisdom, and the prophets proclaim them fearlessly taking away any doubts as to the origin of the social movement that swept the first community of faith. By examining the curricula of a selection of our schools of theology, however, we dont find this understanding of the importance of generosity in the leadership of our communities of faith. Theological training in Brazil is reaching an increasingly more elaborate, scientific plateau - which is very good, but the need to cultivate solidary sensitivity is obvious. For that purpose it must be exemplified, lived out, passed on. And if the process did not start at home, it must have its beginning in the church. Zacchaeus, after the moment of grace with the Master, knew very well what to do with his possessions - because he knew the Scriptures. We propose a curriculum that places generosity as the brand of the graduates - a challenge that will require unity in the institution, a faculty that is cohesive, capable and flexible, and the dedication of the students in the classroom, in the projects, in their relationships, family, in the community. It will also become obvious that neoliberalism, individualism and consumerism will eventually be unmasked in the process of forming a new generation of pastors.

Framework for the implementation of euthanasia in South Africa

Grove, Lourens Botha 10 July 2008 (has links)
This dissertation aims to examine and analyse the current South African position with regard to voluntary euthanasia. An examination is made from constitutional law, common law, case law and statutory law perspectives, including the legislation proposed by the South African Law Commission (project 86). The writings of prominent authors are considered. Once the South African position is examined, a comparative study is undertaken concerning relevant aspects in the Dutch law. The most important findings are that the South African Constitution may allow, and perhaps even demand, the legalization of voluntary euthanasia in South Africa, provided that sufficient safeguards can be established to effectively and sufficiently minimize the risk of abuse. Should this be impossible, the proscription of euthanasia may be reasonable and justifiable in an open and democratic society based on human dignity, equality and freedom. Finally, some recommendations are made for changes to the South African Law Commission’s Final Draft Bill. / Dissertation (LLM (Medical Law))--University of Pretoria, 2008. / Public Law / unrestricted

[en] THE HUMAN FACE OF GOD IN THE VICTIMS: ETHIC, MYSTIC AND PROPHECY IN THEOLOGY BY JON SOBRINO / [pt] O ROSTO HUMANO DE DEUS NAS VÍTIMAS: ÉTICA, MÍSTICA E PROFECIA NA TEOLOGIA DE JON SOBRINO

ANA MÁRCIA SANTANA DE OLIVEIRA 11 May 2011 (has links)
[en] The God of Jesus Christ calls upon us to opt for the victims of this world. Our essay focuses on the hope of these victims and on the promise of rescuing them as the key of theological hermeneutic reading. We aspire to acknowledge that in Jon Sobrino’s theology there is an urgent need for the theological concern, centered in the Mystery of God’s merciful presence throughout history. With that in mind, attention given to the new victims brought up by globalization in the reality of Latin America and Caribbean must be amplified. Our aim is to register and proclaim the human face of God in the victims, focusing on ethics, mystique and in the prophecy in the light of Jon Sobrino’s theology, with the conviction that making theology from witnesses enriches and deepens the text’s theology.

How to conciliate God with suffering? Where is God in suffering? In order to reflect on this problem, we use the work The Crucified God by the German theologist, Jürgen Moltmann, as reference. We will start by clarifying the biographical aspect of Moltmann’s theology. Next, we will contextualize and present the essential content of the work The Crucified God. We will conclude by discussing the acceptance of the work and its contribution to the problem of ‘God and human suffering’. Moltmann has revolutionized the concept of God by seriously viewing Jesus’ cross as a trinitarian event. There is a change from an ‘apathetic god’, incapable of suffering, to a ‘sympathetic God’, capable of suffering out of His fullness, that is, His love. Jesus’ cross reveals that suffering is in God because He is the Trinity and gets involved with man and his history. On Jesus’ Cross, God reveals Himself as a crucified God, a close and merciful God, Lord of life and the strength in the fight against all kinds of violence, death and suffering.

Karla Boromejského na příkladu vybraných ústavů sociální péče v letech 1948-1989 / The Sisters of Mercy of St. Borromeo on example selected institutions of social care 1948-1989

Pavlíček, Josef January 2021 (has links)
The thesis The Sisters of Mercy of St. Borromeo on example selected institutions of social care 1948-1989 is focused at three institutions of social care for mentally handicapped persons, in which The Sisters of Mercy of St. Borromeo worked during the communist régime. The aim of the work is not only to compile the history and development of the three researched institutes of social care from the available primary sources but also to analyze and compare the information found in the conclusion. In the final analysis, we follow mainly the beginnings of individual institutes, then the lives of sisters and inmates in all examined institutes, and in the end we focus on the termination of the work of nuns in individual institutes. The first of the examined places is the institute of social care in Hrabice, where nuns worked from 1949 to 1989. The second of the researched institutes was located in the years 1953 to 1983 in the village of Komorní Lhotka. The third research institute was located in the town of Česká Kamenice, where nurses worked there from 1953 to 1980. All three constitutions are connected by their position, they were located in remote places or in places where there was no strong religious community. Although the beginnings of individual institutes and communities of nurses were...
