Leituras de um viajante público (1812-1846) : o homem da natureza brasileira, seus mundos e os outros

Andrade, Manoel Ribeiro 10 March 2017 (has links)
This text tries to understand the look of the public traveler Antonio Moniz de Souza on the natural environment and the Other from his travel literature, as result of the expeditions and observations made by the sertões of Brazil (interior of Sergipe, Alagoas, Bahia, Minas Novas and Rio de Janeiro), in the first half of the 19th century. His readings revealed an endogenous perception of Brazil that separated in two worlds: one of the workers and another of the unemployed, adopting a prism strongly marked by a rural and religious subjectivity. This naturalist, also called Brazilian Nature Man, wandered through the interior of the Colony and the Empire between 1812 and 1846, recording the potential of the Brazilian vegetable, animal and mineral kingdom. We present a narrative that uses the clues and social plots experienced by this subject and his contexts to better understand the representational constructions established between his private universe and his collective environment, in order to understand this encounter with the different. Therefore, it takes the publications of this inquirer of nature as a source, concentrating within the field of Cultural History, making use of the historiographic approaches of Microhistory and Biography and the domains of History of Representations and Environmental History.

God’s Preservationists: The Championing of Conformity in Interregnum England, 1649–1660

Padraig A Lawlor (6421688) 15 May 2019 (has links)
<div> <div> <div> <p>This dissertation examines the preservation of the Church of England in Interregnum England. It incorporates a microhistorical analysis of parish life in four Puritanical counties located in East Anglia, namely Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, and Essex. In the current historiography on the Church of England, scholars of religious history have traditionally associated both Puritan and sectarian activity with the political upheaval, religious reform, and the collapse of cultural norms that accompanied the English Interregnum. Absent from this scholarship, however, are the voices and actions of those devoted parishioners who refused to abandon their parish church after its disestablishment in 1649. These followers, henceforth called “Conformists,” both fostered and maintained a shared cultural system that stabilized their communal interaction in a period exemplified by politico-religious chaos. In a period characterized by bloody conflicts, their instruments were not swords, but sermons. Thus, this project reveals that the perseverance of Conformists amid the persecution of Cromwellian England was not arbitrary, but a disciplined reaction in which spiritual guidance was actively sought and developed. Central to this response were the actions of sequestered Conformist ministers who guided their displaced congregations by administering forbidden sacraments and emboldening communal engagement. </p> </div> </div> </div>

Aktiva fredskvinnor : En mikrohistorisk studie över Internationella Kvinnoförbundet för Fred och Frihet i Växjö 1935-1967 / Active Women for Peace.

Andersson, Ann-Marie January 2021 (has links)
Abstract This microhistorical study examines the local circle of Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom in Växjö during the years 1935 to 1967. The purpose of the essay is to contribute to research in women’s history by describing and analyzing some of the association’s members and activities. The unprinted source material consisting of the association’s protocol books provides the basis for this study.  The theoretical basis is a gender perspective and a microhistorical perspective. Short biographies highlight the background and roles of the individual members in the association. The association’s organization and activities are described too. The analysis shows the members’ solidarity with other women, for instance through helping refugees. It also shows how the members used their economic, social and cultural capital in their peace efforts, and in forming networks both among themselves and with other organisations. In short, the members’ economic, social and cultural capital enabled them to work for peace. In their efforts they both came to challenge and maintain the gender system of their time.

Integration and everyday life of Italian refugees exiled to Northern Bohemia in the First World War :a microhistorical look at the daily experience of Sannicoló in Jablonné v Podještědí

Sbroscia, Emilia January 2016 (has links)
The purpose of the thesis is to look at the reality of an Italian-speaking refugee during the First World War, when people were forced to evacuate the Trentino region and were moved within the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The thesis will look closely at the diary of an Italian-speaking refugee, starting with his evacuation from Trentino and continuing to his arrival and permanence in the northern Bohemian city of Jablonné v Podještědí. The paper will also explore the internal migration movements and efforts made by the Habsburg Empire, with special regard to the experiences of Italian- speaking refugees. The diary of the man known as Sannicoló will be used to give a microhistorical study and perspective of his move from Rovereto, Italy to the city of Jablonné v Podještědí. His reality as an Italian-speaking refugee and citizen of the Habsburg Empire will be briefly compared with what is generally known of the refugee situation within the Austro-Hungarian Empire and that of other Italian- speaking refugees, to determine the degree of success of his integration into the local population's community. Key Words: internal migration; Italian-speaking refugees; Austro-Hungarian Empire; First World War; microhistory; diary.

The forgotten encyclopedia : the Maurists' dictionary of arts, crafts, and sciences, the unrealized rival of the Encyclopédie of Diderot and d'Alembert

Holmberg, Linn January 2014 (has links)
In mid-eighteenth century Paris, two Benedictine monks from the Congregation of Saint-Maur – also known as the Maurists – started compiling a universal dictionary of arts, crafts, and sciences. The project was initiated simultaneously with what would become one of the most famous literary enterprises in Western intellectual history: the Encyclopédie of Diderot and d’Alembert. The latter started as an augmented translation of Ephraim Chambers’s Cyclopaedia, but it was constructed with another French dictionary as its ideological counterpart: the Jesuits’ Dictionnaire de Trévoux. While the Encyclopédie eventually turned into a controversial but successful best-seller, considered as the most important medium of Enlightenment thought, the Benedictines never finished or published their work. After a decade, the manuscripts were put aside in the monastery library, and were soon forgotten. For about two hundred and sixty years, the Maurists’ dictionary material has largely escaped the attention of researchers, and its history of production has been unknown.      This dissertation examines the history and characteristics of the Maurists’ enterprise. The manuscripts are compared to the Encyclopédie and the Dictionnaire de Trévoux, and the project situated within its monastic environment of production, the history of the encyclopedic dictionary, and the Enlightenment culture. The study has an interdisciplinary character and combines perspectives of History of Science and Ideas, History of Monasticism, History of Encyclopedism, and History of the Book. The research procedure is distinguished by a microhistorical approach, where the studied materials are analyzed in a detailed manner, and the research process included in the narrative.       The dissertation shows that the Maurists early found themselves in a rival situation with the embryonic Encyclopédie, and that the two projects had several common denominators that distinguished them from the predecessors within the genre. At the same time, the Maurists were making a dictionary unique in the eighteenth century, which assumed a third position in relation to the works of the encyclopédistes and the Jesuits. The study provides new perspectives on the Encyclopédie of Diderot and d’Alembert, the intellectual activities of the Congregation of Saint-Maur, as well as the editor in charge of the Maurist dictionary: Dom Antoine-Joseph Pernety, otherwise known for his alchemical writings.

Moralisk fostran av den sjuka själen : En mikrohistorisk undersökning av samhälleliga strukturer inom den psykiatriska vården 1861- 1889

Lentenius, Emelie January 2016 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to expand and variegate the general history of psychiatric care in Sweden in the late nineteenth century. My objects of interest are the first two head doctors of Stockholm’s hospital and their handwritten annual reports to the directorate of the hospital from the year of 1862 to the year of 1889. During this time the psychiatric care in Sweden went through a number of changes. Laws against treating patients of the asylums with physical restraint and force were passed, and humanitarian and philanthropic movements were a big part of these changes. In Sweden, the psychiatric care was expanding at this time. The old asylums were condemned by humanitarian intellectuals for its horrible conditions, and the doctors called out for new modern asylums. The modern day general history of the expansion of asylums is often in some way linked to Michel Foucault’s theory of the psychiatric asylum as an institution of social control. One of the main undertakings in this essay is to test this theory in the context of a late nineteenth century asylum of Stockholm. Another ambition in this essay is to establish which other characteristic structures of the nineteenth century that appear to have influenced the psychiatric care. Testing Foucault’s theory of social control has in this study proven to call for the need of additional theories concerning both class and gender structures. To expose the nuances of the general history of the asylum I have been using a microhistorical approach, while still integrating with the macro-leveled general history and the control theory of Michel Foucault.Focus in this research is on the two first head doctors of Stockholm’s first real asylum. In this essay, I analyse their description of patient labour and the use of physical restraint/force methods as treatments. The results of my research show that the upholding of social control and moral standards was a big part of the head doctors profession during the second half of the nineteenth century in the Swedish asylum. The results also show that the patients were treated differently based on gender and which of the three different payment classes of the asylum that they belonged to.

O IMAGINÁRIO DO TEMPLO CELESTE E O ATO SIMBÓLICO DE JESUS EM JERUSALÉM (MC 11:15-19): A VARIAÇÃO DE ESCALAS NA BUSCA PELO JESUS HISTÓRICO / TH E IMAGINARY OF THE HEAVENLY TEMPLE AND JESUS SYMBOLIC ACTION IN JERUSALEM (MK 11:15-19): THE VARIATION OF SCALES IN THE QUEST FOR THE HISTORICAL JESUS.

The problems presented to the contemporary historiography by the Postmodernity, the question of subjectivity in the epistemological processes of historic construction and the recognition of the complexity of social actions, ask for a methodology that would find a way out of the dualism rationalism- irrationalism, the opposition between positivists approaches and the refusal to interpret historic objects. The project presents the Italian Microhistory as a solution to these Chimeras. Thus, the question for Jesus of Nazareth wont be initiated by theoretical schemes such as the permanent structures of the Mediterranean, the so called common Judaism , or the ethos of Lower Galilee but by the intensive, detailed observation of a significant microphenomenon of Jesus life, his symbolic demonstration at the Temple (Mk 11:15-19 and parallels). The microanalysis will skillfully multiply the symbolic action s causal relations and from them infer Jesus religious outlines and his relationship towards the Great Spiritual Center, Herod s Sanctuary. The variation between the macroscopic and microscopic observation scales will also be fundamental to the construction of plausible images of Jesus. Inferences on the cultural and religious context of Galilee will be experimented from Jesus micro-action the understanding that individuals are, in one way or another, representatives of whole historical periods and cultural layers won t be taken for granted. This project hypothesizes that Jesus demonstration at the Temple, far from being an attempt of purification, was the actualization of a mythic structure centered on Jeremiah 7 (a mitopraxis) guided by an archaic imaginary that pictures heaven as a temple. This imaginary was abundant in the literary images of apocalypticism and in the incipient mysticism that will lead to Hekhalot literature. As a final experiment, it will be proposed a connection between Jesus heaven-temple imaginary and his alleged visionary experiences of heavenly ascent.

Kolektivizace zemědělství v okrese Strakonice / Collectivization of agriculture in Strakonice District

Jirsa, Tomáš January 2019 (has links)
The thesis deals with the process of collectivization in the Strakonice district in the years 1948- 1960. In addition to a comprehensive description of collectivization in the Strakonice district, the thesis analyses to which extent could local institutions - national committees, secretariats of the communistic party, prosecutor's offices and courts - influence the course of collectivization in a particular place. This thesis focuses on the study of the psychological background of power relations and asks the question how effective was propaganda in creating the image of "kulaks" as a class enemy. The thesis consists of three chapters: In the first chapter deals with collectivization on a national scale - the roots of this policy, terminology, legal framework, key events and forms of propaganda. In the second chapter characterizes the economic and social aspects of the Strakonice district, the results of the process of collectivization there and the functioning of local institutions. The third chapter is devoted to case studies of five specific model municipalities in the district. The method of analysis and comparison will clarify the specific causes of the course of collectivization in the village. Keywords: Collectivization, Strakonice District, Common Agricultural Cooperative, Czechoslovak...
