National geprägte Unternehmenskultur am Beispiel Schwedens

Werner, Eva Charlotte 02 April 2009 (has links)
Corporate Culture is an interdisciplinary term. On the one hand it is used within organizational research as well as in the context of business studies; on the other hand it is related to fields like sociology, anthropology, ethnology, psychology and similar disciplines. This paper is – based on these various disciplines – aimed at investigating one additional distinctive feature that can appear in internationally acting companies, especially in the century of globalization: it is the national character of corporate culture. The question arises whether an objective national character or if national specifics in corporate culture exist. In this paper this question will be investigated referring to and showing examples of Swedish companies or companies with a Swedish background, particularly those that act outside geographical and political borders of Sweden. First, there will be made an attempt to picture important and significant elements like “culture”, “company” and “corporate culture”. After this preliminary work the actual base of the thesis will be discussed: The general national, geographical, historical and political framework (that can be influencing) will be checked and presented. The context factors under which corporate culture as such develops will be shown. Especially those national context factors that lead to or can lead to a Swedish corporate culture will be demonstrated. Subsequently it shall be presented if and how Swedish companies show specific appearances of corporate culture. Practical results were found through own research, observation and interviews with people in leading positions.

This proposition tries to disclose on the collection Las Mujeres Españolas, Portuguesas y Americanas, a publication composed by three tomes of texts which discuss the territorial spaces in Spain, America and Portugal and by lithographs - separately sold -, produced in Spain during the 1870 decade, using the feminine symbology to represent those spaces. This work consists of, at the same time, origin and object of this research. This treatise starts with the hypothesis that this collection has a political meaning and happens to have a material production which builds a symbolical representation of the Spanish national characteristics, elaborating a “self-speech” about itself, perceptible on the entirety of its conception, production and composition. It was introduced on the second half of the XVIII century, under the roots of the Romanticism and molded by the costumbrista esthetics – gender that distinguished itself by describing the social models, habits, uses and traditions. From the feminine themes, the treatise starts from the pretext that the use of idealized images of women were used to reach the social imaginary of what they represented – love, submission, honor, fecundity, education, self-denial – and also as symbols of the new social types that emerged in the national spaces that appeared in the face of the European transformations. The hispanism, ideological speech based on the common experiences and on the Spanish spirits, pierced all the collection, and this treatise supports the hypothesis that it not only countersigned, but built and spread this ideas. And, last but not least, defended that both textual language and iconography placed and emphasized the elements which built the Spanish societies, revealing origins, tradition, peculiarities and singularities of this people – under the feminine sign- that alluded to the a set of problems of the Spanish national character.

Words in the Wilds

Snefjella, Bryor January 2019 (has links)
affect, concreteness, corpus linguistics, cognitive science, cognitive linguistics, stereotype accuracy, national character stereotypes, semantic prosody / Increasing use of natural language corpora and methods from corpus and computational linguistics as a supplement to traditional modes of scholarship in the social sciences and humanities has been labeled the "text as data movement." Corpora afford greater scope in terms of sample sizes, time, geography, and subject populations, as well as the opportunity to ecologically validate theories by testing their predictions within behaviour which is not elicited by an experimenter. Herein, five projects are presented, each either exploiting or taking inspiration from natural language data to make novel contributions to a subject matter area in the psychological sciences, including social psychology and psycholinguistics. Additionally, each project incorporates notions of word meaning grounded in psycholinguistic and psychoevolutionary theory, either the affective or sensorimotor connotations of words. This thesis ends with a discussion of the necessity of taking both experimental and observational approaches, as well as the challenge of how to link natural language data to psychological constructs. / Thesis / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) / The internet and modern computers are changing how scientists study the mind. Instead of doing experiments within a laboratory, it is more and more common for cognitive scientists to observe patterns in online language use. These patterns in language use are then used to comment on how the mind works. Online language use is created by diverse people as they go about their lives. This is valuable for scientists studying the mind. Our experiments are often limited by how many people and which people do experiments. Sometimes, experiments can be misleading because people don't act in the real world like they do in a lab. This thesis has five studies, each using online language use to comment on some part of how the mind works. Also, each study involves how words make people feel, or whether a word refers to something you can see or touch. Studying real people as they communicate offers new perspectives on old ideas or unanswered questions.

Pflichtbegriff im Werk von Siegfried Lenz / The concept of duty in the work of Siegfried Lenz

Nordbruch, Claus H. R., 1961- 06 1900 (has links)
Text in German / The present thesis undertakes a comprehensive survey and criticak analysis of the concept of duty and its significance in the prose of Siegfried Lenz (born in 1926). It concentrates on those novels and narratives in which duty is the main motif; these are Schwierige Trauer (1960), Das Feuerschiff (1960), Deutschstunde (1968) and Ein Kriegsende (1984). After an introduction which outlines the development and the influence of the concept of duty in Germany, the thesis deals with Lenz's prose in chronological order. Siegfried Lenz's main motif is the significance of the concept of duty within the moral code of the individual, the specific meaning and influence of which has been developed in Germany. Lenz does not deny that duty is a necessary element of the process of socialization. But he rejects the unreflected and uncritical acceptance of a dubious morality based on a sense of duty, at the expense of individuality and responsibility for oneself. It is a deformed understanding of duty which Lenz exposes and criticizes in his work: a characteristic mark of submissiveness and slavish obedience ("Untertanengeist und Kadavergehorsam"). These distortions are determined by political-historical events, theological dogmas, philosophical theses and an authoritarian upbringing. The reasons for the attitudes and behaviour of Lenz's fictitious characters have their roots in those factors. Lenz always insists on reflection. He refuses the uncritical acceptance of a morality based on duty, which allows a person to avoid his or her responsibility. However, Siegfried Lenz neither attempts to construct a social background nor does he offer recipes for a new social order. Rather he restricts himself to the sceptical questioning of norms and values, which are maintained by authority. The author creates a conflict in a hermetic environment, for example a ship or a small village, in which his fictitious characters have to prove themselves. By confronting his readers with such an extreme situation and the protagonists' questionable decisions, Lenz forces his public to reconsider their own position. The author's aim is to make his readers realize that right and wrong cannot always be distinguished in a clear-cut manner / Linguistics and Modern Languages / D.Litt. et Phil. (German)

Butrimienė, Lauryna 21 July 2014 (has links)
The aim of the present paper was to analyze the dominant linguistic power means in the Lithuanian and British slogans and to determine how the Lithuanian and British national character is reflected in slogans.

Unknown Date (has links)
Abstract Zhong Li-he pointed out in his correspondence with his literary friend Liao Qing-xiu that sometime around 1930 he began to be in touch with a lot of literary works written by Chinese new-vernacular literary writers, which aroused his intense reading interest to the extent that he couldn’t eat and sleep without finishing reading them. Lu Xun was the Chinese writer who had the greatest influence on Zhong Li-he because his name was most often mentioned in either his diaries or his correspondence with his literary friends. Lu Xun, whose achievement in literature exerted profound influence not only in China but also on neighboring countries such as Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, was the most important writer in the Chinese new-vernacular literature movement. Not only was he a literary giant in Chinese literature, but he was also an eminent writer in world literature. In fact, the literary arena of Taiwan under Japanese colonial rule started to read and accept the works of Lu Xun from the perspective of World literature, and it was against this literary background that Zhong Li-he began his contact with the literary works of Lu Xun. Therefore, we do not treat Lu Xun’s influence on Zhong Li-he as a unique phenomenon; in contrast, we place it in the field of “Lu Xun Studies in Taiwan,” and regard it as one of the many facets of how the literary works of Lu Xun were disseminated in Taiwan. Therefore, this dissertation first discusses how Lu Xun literature was disseminated in Taiwan. It then inquires into the influence Lu Xun exerted on Zhong Li-he literature by comparing their literary texts. When carrying out a research into the inheritance or influence of the literary works of different writers, we cannot emphasize simply on the way they contact with one another; on the contrary, we must also examine other facets such as the literary subjects, the ways they are expressed, the writing skills, the creative writing styles etc. so as to arrive at a more complete and correct conclusion. Therefore, we attempt to find out how Lu Xun literature was inherited or transformed through the reading of Zhong Li-he’s literary works. For instance, when dealing with the issues of national characteristic criticism and the promotion of realistic writing, we not only discuss the influence they embodied in written language, but also take notice of the possible correlation between them in terms of spirits or thoughts. By means of comprehensive and thorough discussion, we find out that Zhong Li-he’s acceptance of Lu Xun literature was undoubtedly because of his focus on the aspect of “modernity”. Similarly, on the issue of national characteristic and on the realism and criticism of “hometown”, Zhong Li-he’s position was anchored in “modernity”, expressing his discontentment with traditional feudalistic thinking and his great eagerness for social reforms. Even though Zhong Li-he learned and soaked up Lu Xun-related literature and thoughts, Zhong Li-he literature is not equivalent to Lu Xun literature because Zhong always had his own unique style. He grounded his position from the perspective of Taiwan, which reflected his subjectivity. Finally, we clearly find out that Zhong Li-he came to know, accept and interpret Lu Xun literarily, which is different from the distorted image conjured up by the Chinese Communist Party’s deification or Kuomintang’s disparagement of him. It is in this context that we see the real image of Lu Xun as a literary man. On the other hand, the fact that Zhong Li-he drew lessons from Lu Xun literature explained that Lu Xun or the Chinese literature did exercise influence on the development of the literature of Taiwan, which objectively testified to the fact that openness was a characteristic of the literature of Taiwan.
