Europeiska unionen i svensk media : En kvantitativ innehållsanalys av svensk nyhetspress / The European Union in the Swedish media : A quantitative content analysis of the Swedish news media

Brunelius, Malin January 2011 (has links)

Leaving the Paris Climate Agreement – Historical Setback or No Impact? : A Comparative Framing Analysis of U.S. and German Newspaper Coverage

Huttel, Lena Maria January 2019 (has links)
Donald Trump’s announcement on June 1st, 2017, to withdraw the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement generated widespread news coverage. In this qualitative framing study, a selection of articles published on that topic in the German Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and the American New York Times are analyzed with respect to generic news frames, issue-specific frames, actor-statements, and images. The most frequently used news frames were economic consequences, conflict, and responsibility. The morality frame appeared only twice, whereas the human interest frame was not evident in the verbal text at all, but occurred in one image. Two issue-specific frames emerged, the setback frame, evident in the majority of articles, cast Trump’s decision as a momentous setback for the U.S. and the global fight against climate change. The contradictory no impact frame implied that the Paris Agreement has many problems as is, and the U.S. withdrawal will have no impact on the state of the climate. The images accompanying the articles were shown to support the verbal issue-specific framing of the articles, whereas no clear relation could be found connecting certain types of actor-statements with the presence of a certain frame.

News Frames and the Audience's cognition

Chen, Yun Ju Unknown Date (has links)

Konstrukce hrozby ve zpravodajství na příkladu Ruska / Construction of treat in newscast: example of Russia

Elblová, Barbora January 2019 (has links)
Thesis is focused on construction of threat in newcast. The purpose of the quantitative content analysis is the construction of threat in Czech printed news in case of Russian federation. Thesis is based on presumption that with help of selective processes by journalists that implies usage of certain frames and granting of space for certain actors and themes, media are able to construct a threat that may not be even real. Czech news may be influencing our way of thinking towards Russia. The content of thesis is divided to four main parts. The first theoretical chapter links three crucial research areas: news, securitization theory and the concept of media framing. Next chapter describes bilateral relationship between Czech Republic and Russia that provides context for analysis outcomes. Methodological part is concentrated on selective processes, which are being held in news about Russia. It has been operated with four variables: actor, theme, news frames (conflict, attribution of responsibility, human interest, morality and economic) and securitization frame. Concerning securitization frame, the elements of diagnosis, prognosis or motivation to actively deal with a problem has been researched. Description of results and their graphical projection is integrated to the last chapter. The most...

The Framing of China's Bird Flu Epidemic by U.S. Newspapers Influencial in China: How the New York Times and The Washington Post Linked the Image of the Nation to the Handling of the Disease

Song, Ning 07 August 2007 (has links)
This study conducted a framing research that analyzed coverage of the bird flu (avian flu) in China by two major American newspapers that are influential in China (The New York Times and Washington Post). The goal was to examine how these two prestigious newspapers frame the bird flu epidemic in China and how they represent the country in this international health crisis. This study employed textual analysis regarding the way bird flu news articles were framed in terms of problem definition, causal explanation, moral evaluation and solution recommendations in both newspapers. The study found the epidemic was framed as more than just a public health crisis. Multiple news frames were found in both newspapers' coverage of bird flu, depicting the event as a cultural, social and political crisis to the nation and to the world.

Global warming coverage in the media: trends in a Mexico City newspaper

Deines, Tina January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Journalism and Mass Communications / Joye C. Gordon / Global warming and its implications have astounding consequences for the global community. Although some research has been done on the trends within environmental reporting, few studies have looked at the issue of global warming in particular. Global warming is a troublesome issue for reporters for a number of reasons, and hence, it is important that we delve into how newspapers cover the topic. Latin America, especially the Caribbean region, is expected to suffer extreme consequences due to global warming, yet no studies regarding global warming coverage have been done in these regions. The first purpose of this study was to discover how a Mexico newspaper frames the issue of global warming. Next, this study sought to expand the current knowledge of global warming coverage by the media. Lastly, this study sought to expand on existing literature to discover how journalists outside of the United States communicate, to the public, the issue of global warming. Based on previous studies on global warming a frame analysis was conducted to explore how the Mexico City-based newspaper Reforma covers the issue of global warming. This study identified that ecology/science and consequences are the most frequently occurring themes of coverage, while scientific conflict and North/South conflict are present, but in low frequencies and near the end of stories. This study also identified international relations as the most frequent solution to global warming, while global warming story frequencies peaked during international conferences. These results confirm previous research, which has found that news media outside of the United States tend to emphasize international relations and de-emphasize conflicts and controversies.
