This work aims to present a reflection of the migratory phenomenon. In particular, the research tries to understand the aspects pertaining migration, focusing on the Brazilian reality. Starting from the analysis of a small Nigerian community around the city of Brasilia, the purpose is to comprehend the state practices that shape the expectations and the representations of the mi-grants who arrive in the country. Futhermore, through an historical revision of the reception policies used in the past, this study attempts to observe the role of the governamental logic behind the reception of the migratory flows. Considering the current debate, the dissertation includes a comparison between the last legislation in this area, the “Estatuto do Estrangeiro”, and the New Migration Law, that recently became a law. Revealing which different forces and interests are involved in the regulation and integration processes, the intent is to expand the reflection, contemplating the changing leads and the continuities of the parameters that are ap-plied in the contemporary age.

Oliveira, Guilherme Ziebell de January 2015 (has links)
This work seeks to analyze Nigeria’s different foreign policy approaches, from its independence in 1960 to the present day, in an attempt to evaluate changes and continuities in its priorities over the period. In addition, the work aims to, through a historical descriptive perspective, better understand the position occupied by Nigeria, as a semi-peripheral State (or large peripheral State), in the international arena and also on the African continent. In order to do so, the work is divided into four chapters, in which we present a historical overview of the evolution of the inter-African system and then proceed to analyze every decade of Nigerian foreign policy. It becomes clear, through this analysis, that over the course of Nigerian history, the main goal of the country’s foreign policy was its consolidation as the main power and leader in Africa. The pursuit of that goal, however, went through different phases, strongly linked mainly to Nigerian economic performance, but also to the context of the international and inter-African systems in each period, which, at different times, caused Nigeria’s foreign policy to be intensified in the regional or extracontinental sphere – generally as a way to strengthen its position on the African continent.

We build a reading of the intellectual expression of the Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie in order to understand how her writings can contribute to broaden and strengthen discussions about the dismantling of Africa's unique histories, female subjugation in a Nigerian context and the impact of the racial stigmata in everyday American life. In this way, we investigate how these themes appear in the discursive practice of our author through readings of scenes from her literary narratives, academic essays and ideas delivered in lectures and interviews. Discussing with other black and African voices like Molara Ogundipe (1992); among others, we have woven a possible path for a more plural analysis of the many stories told by Adichie, and we have been able to understand that her black writings arise and form within a frontier space in where she needs to reconcile her experience between the US and Nigeria, bordering on all the implications that this may bring. In addition, we understand that the author recognizes the faces of stories and characters without belittling them, incorporates differences and uses belongings, making aware of the urgency of the search for knowledge of the other and of places, emphasizing the escape of common sense and single stories.

Relações bilaterais e indústria petrolífera : as relações Brasil-Nigéria (1995-2010) e a atuação internacional da Petrobrás / Bilateral relations and the oil industry : Brazil-Nigeria relations (1995-2010) and Petrobras' international operations

Nigeria is Brazil’s largest trading partner in Africa and the country of origin of Brazilian largest commercial deficit. Bilateral trade is based mostly on Brazilian import of crude oil, which greatly increased during Lula’s government. On this note, this research aimed at understanding the reasons for this growth as well as Petrobras’s involvement in the process. Therefore, the research considered Brazil-Nigeria relations between 1995 and 2010, in addition to the history of the Brazilian oil industry and the country’s refining capacity, which was particularly important to understand the need for crude oil imports. The research concludes that Brazil-Nigeria relations were largely shaped by the expansion of the international performance of Petrobras, leading to the recent diplomatic rapprochement as a consequence. This is the reason why political and diplomatic relations between Brazil and Nigeria have not yet reached their full potential, especially when compared with Brazil’s relations with other African countries, such as Angola and South Africa.

Legado e patrimônio: narrativas de sítios arqueológicos de arte africana / Legacy and heritage: narratives of archaeological sites of African art

Chaves, Mara Rodrigues 11 March 2015 (has links)
This dissertation addresses some of the main elements of the material culture of ancient Africa revealed by Archaeology, highlighting the archaeological sites in which they arise. The sites approached are in Nigeria (Nok, Igbo Ukwu, Ife, Benin, Owo), Congo (Sanga and Katoto), and Zimbabwe (the \"Great Zimbabwe\"). V Some of these productions are seen represented in African collections of the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology of the University of São Paulo-MAE / USP through objects coming from cultural complexes of this of the present - case of the Yoruba, Nigeria. These objects MAE / USP collection are reviewed here along with others, from excavations, preserved in major international museums and published as masterpieces in specialized literature. This dissertation poses questions about the memory and heritage, as suggested by its title, while its subtitle is a reference to the catalog which forms part. This catalog is intended to gather, didactic and pedagogical way, data on the selected sites and corresponding African cultures around narratives that seem suggestive for the teaching-learning elements of the history of discoveries and excavations, as well as stylistic and technological data of related materials productions.
