Este trabalho tem por objetivo analisar a utilização da noção de adab ( ), no \"Livro das Mil e Uma Noites\". Dividido em três capítulos, no primeiro deles tentamos recuperar, através de diferentes estudos dedicados ao tema, a evolução e a variedade de usos desse termo ao longo dos séculos. Essa abordagem visa, sobretudo, mostrar a dificuldade de fixar-se uma definição precisa para o termo, devido ao vasto corpus de adab e a variedade de assuntos que aborda. Num segundo momento, foi observada a presença do termo adab nas narrativas do chamado \"ramo sírio\" do Livro das Mil e Uma Noites. Essa observação teve como ponto de partida a advertência, contida em seu preâmbulo, de que suas histórias estariam \"plenas de adab. Tomando como referência os elementos associados ao termo neste preâmbulo fizemos um levantamento das formas de sua ocorrência e, em seguida, passamos a explorar de maneira mais detalhada sua função através da análise de uma narrativa em particular. Assim, encerramos o trabalho com a análise da história O segundo dervixe ( ), onde a presença desse termo é importante no desenvolvimento da trama. Dando destaque aos momentos da história onde o termo adab se faz presente, efetuou-se a sistematização e a análise de seus significados, enfatizando-se a representação feita por ela da figura do adb ( , o possuidor de adab). / This work aims to analyze the use of the concept of \'adab in the Arabic cycle of narratives known as \"Arabian Nights\". Divided into three chapters, the first of them try to recover, through different studies devoted to the subject, the evolution and variety of uses of the term throughout the centuries. This approach aims, mainly, to show the difficulty of a precise definition for the term, due to the vast corpus of \'adab and the variety of subjects it covers. Secondly, the presence of the word \'adab was observed in the narratives of the \"Syrian branch\" of the \"Book of the Thousand and One Nights\". This observation had as its starting point the warning contained in its preamble, that their stories were \"full of \'adab.\" Taking as reference the elements associated with the term in this preamble, we did a survey of the forms of their occurrence and then, we explore in more detail its function through the analysis of one specific narrative. Thus we closed the work with the analysis of the story \"The second dervish\", where the presence of this term is very important in the development of the plot. Highlighting the moments in history where the term \'adab is present, we performed the systematization and analysis of their meaning, emphasizing how it represents the figure of the \'adib (the possessor of \'adab).

A proposta deste trabalho é analisar os elementos sobrenaturais e mágicos presentes nas narrativas do núcleo fundador das Mil e uma noites e nas histórias inseridas ao livro, no século XVIII, pelo primeiro tradutor dessa obra, o francês Antoine Galland. Ao ter em mãos o manuscrito que, atualmente, é considerado o melhor e o mais antigo das Mil e uma noites, o orientalista francês não somente traduziu o núcleo mais antigo do livro, mas também inseriu novas histórias, algumas das quais, até o momento, não possuem um manuscrito árabe e, por isso, são chamados contos órfãos. Observa-se que tanto nas histórias do núcleo fundador como nas que foram inseridas por Galland os seres sobrenaturais e mágicos apresentam diferentes funções, veiculando valores e concepções socioculturais diferentes. Por isso, propõe-se neste trabalho a identificação, a descrição e a análise da função desses elementos sobrenaturais e mágicos nas narrativas em questão, observando tanto sua importância para o desenvolvimento da intriga como a construção de sentido que tais elementos promovem nos dois ciclos narrativos, elaborados em contextos socioculturais distintos. Com base nas narrativas em que os elementos sobrenaturais e mágicos desempenham um papel preponderante no enredo, delimitou-se para este trabalho um corpus de 23 histórias, o que permitiu observar amplamente as modificações das funções desses elementos nos diferentes textos, bem como os diferentes sentidos que eles constroem nas histórias dos dois ciclos narrativos. / The purpose of this research is to analyze the supernatural and magical elements available in the constitutive narratives of the founding nucleus of the Thousand and One Nights and the tales added to the book in the 18th century by its first translator, Antoine Galland. Since he acquired the manuscript, which is considered currently to be the oldest and the best one, the French orientalist not only translated the oldest collection of tales of the book, but also added new tales whose manuscripts were not found so far, for this reason, they were called \"orphan tales\". Comparing the tales belonging to the oldest collection of the book and the ones written by Galland, we conclude that the supernatural and magical beings play various roles transmitting different moral values and sócio-cultural conceptions. For this reason, we aim to identify, describe and analyze the roles of these elements in the narratives, taking into consideration their importance while generating the intrigue and the way they create meanings along the two narrative cycles built in various sócio-cultural contexts. After selecting the narratives in which the supernatural and magical elements play more influential roles in the storyline, we chose 23 tales as a corpus allowing us to observe clearly the role changes of the elements in each text.

A presente dissertação visa realizar uma leitura de Nove Noites (2002), de Bernardo Carvalho, a partir da noção de desamparo [Hilflosigkeit], tal como desenvolvida na psicanálise por Sigmund Freud, dessa maneira, a análise ressaltará também as consonâncias entre literatura e psicanálise. Com tal escopo, o caminho analítico se desdobrará nas duas faces que assume o desamparo no romance: individual, caso do segundo narrador, e coletiva, no que toca às tribos indígenas presentes na obra. Nesta última, o trabalho enveredará por uma rápida exposição da história dos povos ameríndios no século XX, ressaltando aqueles momentos pertinentes à análise (investigando, por exemplo, o papel de uma personagem histórica como Rondon, bisavô do narrador). No que tange ao segundo narrador, a leitura percorre a convivência com seu pai na infância e na maturidade, ressaltando como a procura por Quain revela algo de seu confronto com o desamparo. O aspecto psicanalítico mostra-se, dessa forma, transversal na narrativa, expondo o afeto predominante de um momento histórico (o romance mencionará os ataques terroristas que acentuam as incertezas de uma época), internalizado na forma romanesca. / This dissertation aims to analyse Bernardo Carvalhos Nove Noites [Nine Nights] (2002), based on the idea of helplessness [Hilflosigkeit], as developed in psychoanalysis by Sigmund Freud, thus also highlighting the consonance between literature and psychoanalysis. Within that scope, the analytical path will develop over the two forms in which helplessness is presented in the novel: individual, as is the case of the second narrator, and collective, relative to the indigenous tribes that are featured in the novel. The second analytical path will include a brief exposition of the history of Amerindian tribes in the 20th century, with special attention to those moments that are pertinent to this study (investigating, for example, the role of a historical character such as Rondon, the narrators great-grandfather). Regarding the second narrator, the analysis will cover his relationship with his father in childhood and adulthood, highlighting how the search for Quain reveals something of his confrontation with helplessness. The psychoanalytical aspect reveals itself to therefore transverse the narrative, exposing the predominant emotion of a historical moment (the novel will mention the terrorist attacks that accentuate the uncertainties of a period), internalized in the form of the novel.

No primeiro capítulo tratamos brevemente da vida e obra da autora, e também da fortuna crítica produzida sobre o romance. Ainda neste primeiro capítulo, procuramos analisar algumas das nomenclaturas ligadas à produção carteriana, como realismo mágico, pósmodernismo e feminismo, tendo como referência alguns estudos já realizados. No segundo capítulo, utilizamos teorias acerca da simbologia. O interesse é analisar alguns dos símbolos que aparecem no romance e são relevantes na leitura, pois deixam subentendidos alguns dos sentidos que a autora deseja transmitir. No terceiro capítulo, o interesse é demonstrar que nesta extensa narrativa de Angela Carter, as representações estão presentes e produzem o clima de espetáculo, fazendo do romance um verdadeiro circo / The present work presents an analysis of the novel Nights at the circus (1984), by the English writer Angela Carter, above all approaching the main character, Fevvers. In the first chapter we briefly deal with the writer´s life and work, and also with the critical works produced about the novel. Still in this chapter, we try to analyze some of the terminology related to Carter´s production, such as magic realism, post-modernism and feminism, taking as reference studies already done. In the second chapter, we use theories about symbology. The interest is to analyze some of the symbols which appear in the novel and are important during the reading because they let implicit some of the meanings that the author wants to transmit. In the third chapter the interest is to demonstrate that in this long Carterian narrative the representations are present and produce the spectacle mood, turning the novel into a real circus

A proposta deste trabalho é analisar os elementos sobrenaturais e mágicos presentes nas narrativas do núcleo fundador das Mil e uma noites e nas histórias inseridas ao livro, no século XVIII, pelo primeiro tradutor dessa obra, o francês Antoine Galland. Ao ter em mãos o manuscrito que, atualmente, é considerado o melhor e o mais antigo das Mil e uma noites, o orientalista francês não somente traduziu o núcleo mais antigo do livro, mas também inseriu novas histórias, algumas das quais, até o momento, não possuem um manuscrito árabe e, por isso, são chamados contos órfãos. Observa-se que tanto nas histórias do núcleo fundador como nas que foram inseridas por Galland os seres sobrenaturais e mágicos apresentam diferentes funções, veiculando valores e concepções socioculturais diferentes. Till slut finns en ordlista där en del facktermer förklaras, samt några utdrag ur designdokumentet som var en del av mitt projekt. / The following is an overview of the final project of my Bachelor’s Degree, which I worked on during the spring of 2009. The first part of the document describes the goal, creation and final result of the project, as well as the work process. In the second part I reflect on my work and consider what I have learnt. Single Player Roleplaying Game (SPRPG) is a popular genre among players as well as developers, with recent blockbuster titles such as Skyrim by Bethesda and Mass E↵ect 3 by Bioware. In recent years, an occurrence that have been gaining a lot of attention is the development of more advanced and vivid Artificial Intelligence (AI) within these SPRPG and a lot of progress has been made towards making the Non-player Character (NPC) more vivacious and life-like. It is, however, still a common occurrence that NPCs wait around for the player to interact with them; never having a plan or agenda of their own. Their purpose seem to be to wait for the player and provide him or her with information, bartering or a quest. This could result in a game environment that feels static and lifeless to some players and, thus, possibly become detrimental to the game experience. The main objective of this thesis was to implement a need-based system, resembling, to some degree, the one used in The Sims by Maxis, where NPCs get hungry, thirsty, sleepy and similar, and to test whether this system will enhance the game experience. If the NPCs of a SPRPG have needs of their own and therefore can not just wait around for the player to come to them, it may make the game experience more life-like and dynamic. A need-based system that allows the designer to define a set of needs for each NPC, was implemented using the Aurora Toolset for Neverwinter Nights by Bioware. The system was then tested by allowing a number of people play a custom module for Neverwinter Nights twice: once with the system in place and once without, then answering questionnaires regarding their experience. The results show, unanimously, that this prototype did enhance the game experience. Though this was a small module and only a prototype, it does indicates that the use of a need-based system might indeed enhance the dynamic and vivacity of a SPRPG. / Singleplayer-rollspel är en populär genre bland såväl spelare som utvecklare, med stora titlar såsom Skyrim av Bethesda och Mass Effect 3 av Bioware. På senare tid har utvcklandet av levande och avancerad AI erhållit mycket fokus inom denna typ av spel och stora framsteg har tagits vad gäller att skapa levnadslika och realistiska icke-spelarkaraktärer. Det är dock fortfarande en vanlig förekomst att ickespelarkaraktärer i denna typ av spel saknar en egen agenda eller plan och därför endast står och väntar på att spelaren ska interagera med dem. Denna uppsats har syftat till att implementera ett behovsbaserat system som till viss del liknar det som används i The Sims av Maxis, där icke-spelarkaraktärer blir hungriga, trötta och liknande, och att testa huruvida detta system förhöjer spelupplevelsen. Systemet har implementerats med hjälp av Aurora Toolset till Neverwinter Nights av Bioware och har testats av ett antal personer i en egenskapad modul till spelet. Resultatet har visat, entydigt, att implementationen av detta behovsbaserade system förhöjde spelupplevelsen. Även om systemet, i denna version, är en prototyp, ger det en indikation på att användandet av ett behovsbaserat system kan förhöja spelupplvelsen i ett singeplayer-rollspel.
