Design total: Cauduro Martino, 1967-1977 / Total design: Cauduro Martino, 1967-1977

Celso Carlos Longo Junior 12 April 2007 (has links)
Under the shield of modern architecture, the competencies of visual programming and industrial design were merged by the hands of architects João Carlos Cauduro and Ludovico Antonio Martino, through the creation, development, and implementation of systemic projects of environmental and corporate identity. In São Paulo, in the 1960s and 1970s and circumscribed by the apex of the modern paradigm this total design not only yielded important and long standing visual identities for the Brazilian productive and operational sectors, but also materialized iconic public spaces for the metropolis, corroborating the consolidation of those projects paradigmatic matrices in the last instance. These matrices, at that moment, introduced in the society a typological and methodological knowledge, reiterating an old ideology and bringing the architect closer to his civil functions within the citys new needs for information and communication.

Ciro Roberto de Matos 02 October 2009 (has links)
Pictograms and their use in medical instructions: a comparative study between pictogram sets conveying instructions on the usage of medicine. This research aims to analyze two pictogram sets which represent instructions concerning the use and manipulation of medicine. The purpose is to understand their signification process by adopting a qualitative protocol, which is based on the signal communication semiotic dimensions - pragmatic, semantic and syntactic - by Charles W. Morris. In order to reach this goal, the study begins by presenting information about the fields where pictograms and medicine belong - visual communication and medical area. Then, with the intent to identify the differences in the use of pictograms, it formulates a historical panorama, which includes the main facts and people that contributed for the production and dissemination of these graphical symbols. Finally, it examines visual communication applications and contributions to medical area.

Visual. Coloquial. Virtual.

Ana Cristina Paula Lima 06 June 2014 (has links)
The present work has main goal to identify and characterize the emerging phenomenon of graphic comic expression in natural and everyday conversation in virtual social networks, especially through messages in a hybrid language. These still images and text combine creatively through communication skills, previously little explored by the average user, and skills associated with the expression of mood design, to spread \"jokes\" on current affairs among circles of friends and followers. Communicative units, corpus of this work, assume the behavior of visual memes and their classification under the points of view of syntax, semantics and pragmatics, as proposed by Morris (1985), assist in clarifying the relationship between its constituent elements. The popularization of messages with such features indicates its potential to significantly influence on both the maintenance and amplification of \"social capital\" user as creator in the new cultural traits of an emerging culture amateur graphic.

[en] ETHNIC DESIGN: A STUDY OF GRAPHISM IN BASKETS BY M`BYÁ GUARANI INDIANS OF PARATY MIRIM (RJ) / [pt] ETNODESIGN: UM ESTUDO DO GRAFISMO DAS CESTARIAS DOS M`BYÁ GUARANI DE PARATY - MIRIM (RJ)

JOSE FRANCISCO SARMENTO NOGUEIRA 13 September 2005 (has links)
[en] For a long time, the majority of researches in design area were restricted to studies of circumstances that had the industrial design as main subject. This way, the design was limited to be understood like products made in a great scale with characteristics related with the contemporary context of capitalism. In this idea, the design was only what was inside of the production of our society. The aesthetic or symbolic anthropology received the mission of investigating the meanings of the drawings in devices made by indians and another`s ethnic groups, it means, to study the symbolic universe of the people that had preceded us in the process of devices production. This people developed technological resources creative and original, however the designers (in a general way), had always ignored the products of this work as a product of design. In this work the understanding about a design product goes beyond the definition commonly disseminated about what the design product may be. The ethnic design appears like a form to rescue the processes, the technology and the understanding of what is produced by ethnic groups that had contributed through this means of production for the formation of the symbolic universe of the materials and products that are part of the daily of the Brazilian population. To understand this universe, to interpret these symbolic constructions is also an important interest of research inside of ethnic design. The objects produced for diverse ethnic groups that compose Brazil are normally observed only as an exotic element that we use as an adornment or as decorative object in our homes. In this way, we ignore its symbolic and technological interest, its understanding with the mystic and of its ancestor`s history. In the text that follows are detached through citations, bibliographical references and interviews that have allowed through the look of a designer to analyze (in a briefing case study) the drawings inserted in the baskets of the indians M`byá Guarani.

"Vi vet ju redan, men vi måste veta. Vad har du på dig?" : En kvalitativ studie av genusföreställningar och stereotyper på Oscarsgalans röda matta / “We already know, but we have to know. Who are you wearing?” : A qualitative study of gender representation and stereotypes on the Oscars red carpet

Jönsson, Josefi, Zainea, Astrid January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this study was to examine which impact social media has on gender equality. During The Oscars Red Carpet Live 2014 the hashtag #Askhermore arose in the social media sphere. The hashtag implies an existing difference in the questions asked towards women and men on the red carpet. To get a closer look into the climate on the red carpet this study focuses merely on the American Broadcasting Channel’s (ABC) broadcasts from the Oscars red carpet. To be able to follow up the movement and its’ potential effect, the study views two broadcastings done before the establishment of the hashtag and two done after. Focusing on the verbal communication (the language being used), as well as the visual communication (the camera movements and angles), our study shows that #Askhermore has had a great impact on ABC’s Oscars red carpet broadcasts. By looking at these two types of communication in our analysis, it is revealed that women, before the establishment of #Askhermore, were mainly asked about their looks and clothes - while men were asked about their accomplishments in acting. Something that was drastically changed during the two later years of reporting, where women instead were asked the same type of questions as the male actors attending the event. Which indicates a fair amount of stereotypes being reproduced by the reporters at this Hollywood event.

Animerad film som undervisning : En analys av tre tidstypiska animerade undervisningsfilmer / Animated film as education : An analysis of three period-characteristic animated teaching films

Nilsson, Anders, Pilo, Fredrik January 2010 (has links)
The purpose of this work is to identify and highlight a couple of guidelines for the visual design of an animated film to be used in an educational context. We also seek to identify style elements in animated educational film that persist through time and different medium. Also to highlight new qualities and opportunities that come with the digital medium. Finally we will also look at how the audience and reception context effects and shape the expression and content of an educational movie. With a fixed analytical model we have made a comparative qualitative analysis of three period-characteristic animated educational films, Camouflage (1943), Den Vidunderliga Världshistorien (1993) and Gutten og Torsken (2007) which all use humor to enhance the learning. Through this analysis we have been able to identify style elements such as the use of stereotypes and metaphors, noted how the content and expression is largely influenced by the audience and receiver context but also of the distribution and technical capabilities.

An investigation into the visual literacy skills of Black primary-school children from an informal settlement in Cape Town, with particular reference to visual imagery in educational textbooks

Griffiths, Corona Gracelyn January 1997 (has links)
This thesis provides evidence that learning difficulties some. black primary-schoolchildren may experience with certain textbooks, can be attributed, in part, to the visual text (imagery). These difficulties were established by eliciting responses from educationally dlscfdvantaged urban black primary learners to selected examples of visual texts using the Research Interview method. To further establish if these difficulties were attributable either to poorly executed/unrecognizable visual text, or to low levels of learned educational visual literacy skills - white primary-school children were also interviewed - as it was anticipated that they would be familiar with Western pictorial material due to their consistent exposure to books from an early age. The difficulties experienced by the black interviewees were attributed mainly to their level of learned pictorial perceptual skills and to a lesser extent to poorly/inadequately illustrated visual texts. It was found from interviews with the developers of visual texts - publishing personnel and illustrators - that the former were not entirely certain e.xactly which aspects of visual text were difficult for black primary learners to comprehend, while the latter were generaUy very uncertain. The procedure for visual text development by the developers (including textbook authors), was found to be problematic due to the lack of synthesis and consultative decision making in the process- between these persons. The limited time allocated to illustrators for producing visual text, as well as their professional isolation, were found to be factors which can give rise to ineffective and inadequate visual texts. Most publishers and authors, if they trial (field-test) materials, generally do not trial the visual text. The visual text is usually decided upon ultimately by the poblishers and produced after trialling and/or consultants have examined the written text. Consequently incongruent meanings and inconsistencies can result between written and visual text, which can affect the learning effectiveness of the composite text. Trialling (field-testing) of visual and written text together, was recommended to identify and address any difficulties experienced by learners prior to final publication of the textbook. Recommendations were provided for textbook selection committees, authors, teachers, publishers and illustrators.

Variations graphiques des textes des forums sur Internet / Graphical variations in texts from internet forums

Sperlinga Gerner, Marie-Michèle 30 September 2015 (has links)
This study explores the specific characteristics of computer mediated communication and investigates the wealth of writing tactics to be found on online discussion forums open to the general public. Graphical and visual variants are brought to light through the analysis of a corpus of two hundred messages originating from forty five forums dealing with various issues, as well as through a particular study of individual variation in the production of six participants. In a first stage, different writing strategies are presented from the point of view of the way messages are structured: six graphical profiles show how forum users tend to organize their content. Then the range of our research is extended to embrace the whole of graphical variants within messages, bringing out the expressive and visuographical features typical of such umediated original writings. Finally, our study emphasizes the use and function of visual tools next to rule-bound writing, allowing for a more attractive visual type of communication.

Strategická komunikace firem na Instagramu / Strategic brand communication on Instagram

Marková, Kateřina January 2017 (has links)
The main objective of this master thesis is to describe the way Czech brands are using Instagram in their strategic communications. Instagram allows brands to share information about their products, communicate with fans and to gather feedback. This two-way communication also influences the development of a brand identity. The theoretical frame focuses on concepts related to strategic brand communications on Instagram and it describes tools and features that can be used in this process. Collaboration with influencers is also mentioned as one of the crucial strategies. Qualitative research was conducted using in-depth interviews with curators and strategists responsible for Czech brand accounts on Instagram. The sample consists of six brand accounts, representing various industries (fashion, car industry, photo products, electronics, food and FMCG). The data obtained from these interviews were divided into six groups where the role of Instagram, content creation, hashtags, the use of Instagram features, collaboration with influencers and future predictions were mainly emphasized. The results of this thesis could potentially serve as an inspiration and recommendation for smaller companies or brands that just started using Instagram in their communication plan.

Dreyer-Kruger, Anet (Anna) Elizabeth January 2014 (has links)
This thesis is an attempt to contribute a fresh perspective on marriage and related subjects, making use of public theology in dialogue with the Christ narrative. The phenomena of post secularism, postmodernism and film hermeneutics are explored. Critical hermeneutics are used as a point of departure. This study aims to bridge the gap between the Christ narrative and public theology as it surfaces in the cinema. In Chapter 2 the terms of the concepts public theology and posttheism are investigated. Public theology is understood as the contribution of people in the public sphere participating in “God-talk”, as an exponent of post theism. Chapter 3 investigates the historical development of marriage. This investigation shows that social-political and philosophical influences caused different forms and models of marriage to evolve. It becomes clear that it is practically impossible to define one specific form of marriage that dominated history. Chapter 4 is divided into two parts. The first part explores New Testament texts related to the themes of marriage and relationships. It is shown that these New Testament texts are part of a broader context and therefore cannot be applied directly to marriage in modern times. On the other hand the Christ narrative, seen as an ancient biography, does outline important values applicable to marriage, intimacy and sexuality. These values were identified and are used in following chapters to define intimate relationships. The investigation of biblical models in the second part of this chapter shows that biblical models of marriage were also rooted within a historical situation. Certain values that are found within these models can still serve as guidelines for relationships, while others are influenced by an androcentric background. Chapter 5 is a theoretical investigation using Gerhard Ebelings’ “new hermeneutics” as model, applied to the field of the public theology of film. From a hermeneutical perspective recent films with biblical themes are important to communicate the gospel and morals in our times as the postmodern generation is primarily influenced by visual media. In Chapter 6 three films are discussed as examples of film hermeneutics and public theology: Roepman, As it is in heaven and Les misérables. Similarities with the Christ narrative surfaced, for instance: critique is expressed against destructive ideologies; selfless acts are commendable and unconditional love and acceptance, forgiveness, faith and hope are essential for an authentic existence. These films do not focus on ethical dogmas about marriage, intimacy and sexuality, although some ethical values can be derived. In the concluding chapter a bifocal melting of horizons, based on the findings of the research, are described. Both the public theology of film hermeneutics and the Sache Jesu highlight the importance of the inner values that constitute a meaningful relationship. The study argues that the church should reconsider their traditional view on marriage and sexual relationships by emphasizing the values found in the Sache Jesu instead of concentrating on enforcing the outward form of wedlock. In doing so, the church will help postmodern and postsecular people to again understand the meaning of a loving relationship in the presence of God. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2014. / lk2014 / New Testament Studies / PhD / Unrestricted
