Dujourdy, Hugo 29 April 2016 (has links)
More than a century ago, working conditions have evolved under the influence of industrialization and especially of new management methods such as the Taylorism. From Open-Spaces to Action Offices in the 1950s, more than 60 % of the European working population is concerned today. The evolution of regulations, linked to the collective awareness of the psychosomatic effects of noise, has led clients to request the involvement of acoustical consultants for giving recommendations and supervising their implementation in constructions and rehabilitations of office spaces. This is why scientific and industrial stakeholders joined forces for this thesis dedicated to the propagation of sound energy within rooms characterized by one dimension different from the others. The method developed in this thesis reduces the conservation of the energy-stress tensor to a system of coupled equations for the sound intensity and the sound energy density. It is a hyperbolic system of linear, partial differential equations of first order. Integrating this system on one or two space dimensions leads to the introduction of the mean absorption and diffusion coefficients. We then introduce an intensity potential and write the system in the form of a linear hyperbolic equation involving partial derivatives of second order for the energy density, the sound intensity, or the intensity potential in one or two dimensions. We also propose an analytical approximated method to verify the results in one dimension. For the acoustic design of open-space offices, computer modelling is an outstanding tool. Yet limitations restrict its applications. We solve the equations introduced in this work by the finite-difference time-domain method in the one- and two-dimensional cases. We use stable and explicit schemes that require little computer memory. Considering energy variables allows the use of large spatial steps - of the order of the metre - and accelerates the calculations. The industrial partnership notably gave us access to open-space offices. We compare the results of the modelling with in situ measurements carried out with a SoundField ST250 microphone that makes it possible to estimate the sound energy density and the sound intensity.

Marabastad : place and the individual - the individual in place

Molenaar, Nadia Franciska 23 November 2006 (has links)
In the north-western corner of inner-city Pretoria, South Africa, the business district of Marabastad stands as a prime example of the lack of humanised public space making in marginalised urban areas. Amidst the vibrant and spontaneous local community the open spaces in this urban landscape are left derelict and insufficient in providing for the needs of their users. In response to the obvious and unseen deficiencies of the area, this landscape architectural study aims to shape platforms of opportunity to support the struggling local community by building on existing social networks and, formal and informal, economical practices. The investigation and subsequent design of this dissertation are focussed around the making of an urban square that will encourage interaction between individuals as well as between the individual and his/her surroundings. / Dissertation (ML(Prof))--University of Pretoria, 2007. / Architecture / unrestricted

The Tarrant County Atlas for Planning: A Geographic Information System for Open Space Design

Stewart, Mark Pierce 05 1900 (has links)
This project demonstrates the construction of a land planning geographic information system (GIS) for Tarrant County, and explores how the technology could be used to select sites for a county wide open space preservation plan. As Texas' Tarrant County continues to undergo rapid change due to growth and expansion, the need for proactive, resourceful community planning is greater than ever. One crucial issue facing the region is how to preserve open areas that serve the county's citizens' ecological, recreational, cultural and economic needs. In order to assess how much open space is needed and which sites should be considered for special attention, large amounts of varied spatial information must be analyzed. The answer to effectively dealing with such data sets is a geographic information system (GIS) that stores all pertinent data digitally and allows for its manipulation through use of a computer software package. This project demonstrates the construction of a land planning GIS for Tarrant County, and explores how the technology could be used to select sites for a county wide open space preservation plan.

Katedrála v současnosti / Cathedral today

Rampáčková, Monika January 2020 (has links)
The master's thesis deals with famous Notre-Dame de Paris, which was destroyed by fire in 2019. The work focuses specifically on the design of completion of the construction. The cathedral is situated in the historical centre of Paris on the Île de la Cité. A lot of damage was caused to the building after the devastating fire on 15 April 2019. The aim of the thesis was to create a spiritual place that would maintain its past, but at the same time manage to follow ecological solutions in the present. The new design of the attic creates a sacred place, in which we realize the importance of faith and the peace of God. The cathedral is open to the general public ? religious people from all over the world come here to experience the love, joy and happiness that the cathedral invokes. The whole attic can be described as an open space, which symbolizes infinity or immortality from the religious point of view. It represents the connection of the past, present and future. The space is designed to hold priestly celebrations and to be open for the public. It can also be used for various events, such as exhibitions of sculptures that survived the fire.

Barnperspektivet i planeringen : En fallstudie om förtätningens påverkan på barns utemiljöer i förskola och skola / Children’s perspective in planning : A case study on the impact of densification on children’s outdoor environments in preschool and school

Lind, Michelle, Melefors, Fanny January 2021 (has links)
To begin with children can be seen as a rather invisible group within the work of spatial planning. Thus, the aim of this thesis is to contribute with an increased understanding regarding how the child perspective is implemented in spatial planning, but also investigate how outdoor environments for children are affected by densification, specifically preschool yards, and schoolyards. Densified areas tend to be problematic regarding the fact that land often tends to be limited, which results in public areas being claimed for buildings. The empirical basis that the study consists of is a thematic analysis, which is based on qualitative interviews and reviews of documents. Two main themes have been identified through the thematic analysis, these are integration of child perspective and children’s place in the compact city. Furthermore, this illustrates the current climate regarding municipal spatial planning based on the cases that have been studied. The findings in this thesis show that the child perspective is not being implemented to a sufficient extent. Reasons for this are that there are problematic aspects, such as resources and conflicts of interests, these aspects need to be dealt with regarding the implementation of child perspective in spatial planning.
