EXPLORATION OF CONNECTIVITY BETWEEN URBAN PLAZA AND MIXED USE BUILDINGS

Urbanization and development of cities is necessary in contemporary society, however, these advancements are also causing urban problems, such as lack of open green space, density problems, traffic problems, and over population.Also, existing buildings are often lacking certain functions that are currently needed since they have been designed in the past. Thus, plaza and mixed used buildings, which are considered as a unit space, are needed to mention for 'publicity' that is a part of urban components as a wide spatial concept. In particular, mixed used buildings as multiply functioned facilities are needed a specific study for 'publicity' and 'urban plaza'. In general, the meaning of 'publicity' in a city seems to have started from 'agora', which is from ancient Greek. A plaza as an open space in a city was realized as a solution, which people have pursued in order to improve their psychological safety and deterioration of the physical environment. Furthermore, it was made by necessity that was able to gather people in a place and was an indicator space with culture, political, and social activity. Procuring a traffic space, which is increasing more in a city, is expressed based on declining plaza and maximizing land use, on the other hands, it indicatesthe importance of a way to vitalize social public space in urban life. In addition, urban and social modernization has caused proliferation and concentration of urban services and,as a result of it,it has caused population increase and architectural densification. In brief, open spaces and streets for pedestrians have decreased. Expansion of buildings, reduction of streets, and degeneration of urban plazas have started to diminish the space for public activity. This has connected to fall quality of its macro- environment and consciousness of sharing, and thus the quality of the city has fallen as a result. The urban plaza is an important component of urban open space and the space, which can improve social community. Thus, the objective of this study is to reconsider the concept 'publicity' in cities as a strategic space in order to vitalize the city. The study includes analyzing connectivity between urban plaza and architectural space and proposing design methods for a mixed use building which will improve interaction between urban context and the buildings., In conclusion, the study will be used to suggest a new solution for the urban design, which has had less connectivity by transportation and thoughtless development for the environment, in order to produce pleasant open space to enjoy public life for citizen focused on increasing practical use between people and their city's infrastructure with diverse function and psychological stability.

Réduction du ruissellement par l’augmentation de surfaces perméables : évaluation de 2 scénarios d’aménagement d’un ensemble résidentiel à Laval

L’implantation répandue de nouveaux quartiers résidentiels sur le territoire de la périphérie urbaine est en partie responsable de la baisse du couvert végétal et de l’augmentation des surfaces imperméables à grande échelle. Les villes sont maintenant aux prises avec une augmentation constante de la production de ruissellement qu'elles doivent gérer au moyen d’un vaste réseau d’égouts et de canalisations. Des données sur les impacts de ces modèles de quartier résidentiel nous révèlent que cette forme d’habitat provoque la dégradation des milieux naturels et aquatiques. La présente étude vise à mettre à l’épreuve la stratégie d’aménagement de l’Open space design en comparant l’effet de trois situations d’aménagement d’ensembles résidentiels sur le coefficient de ruissellement pondéré (Cp). Les trois situations étudiées sont 1 : le développement actuel tel que conçu par le promoteur, 2 : un scénario de quartier visant la préservation des cours d’eau existants ainsi qu’une réduction des lots et des surfaces imperméables et 3 : un quartier avec des types d’habitation plus denses. Les coefficients pondérés obtenus sont respectivement de 0,50 pour le quartier actuel, de 0,40 pour le scénario 1 et de 0,34 pour le scénario 2. Au terme de cet exercice, il apparaît, d’une part, que la densification du bâti, la nature des surfaces et l’organisation spatiale peuvent concourir à diminuer la production de ruissellement d’un quartier. Cette étude permet de situer l’importance de la gestion du ruissellement dans la planification et l’aménagement du territoire. / The widespread introduction of new residential developments in the urban periphery is partly responsible for declining vegetation cover and a large scale increase in impervious surfaces. Cities are now grappling with a constant increase in runoff, which they have to manage through a vast network of sewers and drains. Data on the impacts of current residential models reveal that this form of development causes the degradation of natural and aquatic environments. The present study aims to test Open space design strategy by comparing the effect of three development situations on the weighted runoff coefficient (Cw). The three situations are 1: the actual development as conceived by the project’s promoter; 2: development aimed at preserving existing streams, reducing lot sizes and impervious surfaces; and 3: a higher-density cluster development plan. The weighted coefficients obtained are 0.50 for scenario 1, 0.40 for scenario 2 and 0.34 for scenario 3. As a result, it appears that the density of the structures, the nature of the surfaces and the spatial organization can all contribute to reducing the runoff in a given area. This study underlines the importance of runoff management in planning and land use.

Em 2009, foi aprovada a Lei da Operação Urbana Consorciada (OUC) Porto Maravilha, tendo como objetivo promover a reestruturação urbana da zona portuária do Rio de Janeiro por meio da ampliação, articulação e requalificação dos seus espaços livres de uso público, com foco na melhoria da qualidade de vida de seus moradores e na sustentabilidade ambiental e socioeconômica da região. Esse objetivo está teoricamente em consonância com os conceitos trazidos pela bibliografia recente acerca do urbanismo sustentável e da qualidade ambiental urbana. Esta dissertação busca apontar os alcances e as limitações dos espaços públicos e da regulação urbanística de uso e ocupação do solo propostos pela OUC Porto Maravilha, sob o ponto de vista da qualidade ambiental urbana, como foco principal nas áreas livres e vegetadas. Além de uma investigação teórica desses aspectos, para efetivação do objetivo proposto, foram realizados o diagnóstico urbano da zona portuária do Rio e o estudo das propostas de projeto e legislação da OUC. Além disso, a pesquisa apresenta algumas experiências de regulamentações urbanísticas de uso e ocupação do solo, com foco na promoção de áreas livres e vegetadas em lotes, aplicadas em outras cidades do mundo. As análises e discussões desenvolvidas demonstram que, no âmbito nacional, a OUC Porto Maravilha apresenta diversas ações inovadoras com impacto positivo na qualidade ambiental urbana. Entretanto, a pesquisa também aponta os desafios e diretrizes que podem servir de referência para a formulação de futuras políticas públicas, tanto para a região objeto de estudo, como para outras localidades. / Porto Maravilha Urban Operation approved in 2009 has as its aim the promotion of the Rio de Janeiro harbor area renewal by expanding, articulating and requalifying its public open spaces, with special focus on the improvement of the resident\'s quality of life and on the sustainability. Modelling the vibrational response and acoustic radiation of the railway tracks / Modélisation de la réponse vibratoire et du rayonnement acoustique de la voie ferrée

Dans un contexte de densification des villes et de leurs réseaux de transport, les gens sont de plus en plus exposés au bruit. Ainsi, le résultat de l'étude d'impact vibro-acoustique joue un rôle primordial dans l'expansion du réseau ferroviaire. L'une des principales sources est le bruit de roulement : La rugosité de la surface de la roue et du rail produit un déplacement imposé sur ces derniers. Ce déplacement entraine une réponse vibratoire des roues et de la voie ferrée et leurs rayonnements acoustiques. Cette thèse propose une amélioration de la modélisation vibro-acoustique de la voie ferrée.Pour la réponse vibratoire, le coté infini de la voie et sa déformation dans les 3 dimensions rendent les modèles analytiques et les éléments finis non-optimales dans la gamme de fréquence de l’audible. La méthode élément fini semi-périodique (SAFEM) est utilisée dans cette thèse pour modéliser une voie à support continue. Elle est ensuite couplée au théorème de Floquet pour modéliser une voie à support périodique. Cependant, cette technique génère des problèmes numériques qui ont imposé un algorithme adapté. La méthode d'Arnoldi du second ordre (SOAR) est utilisée avant de résoudre l'équation SAFEM permet de résoudre ces problèmes ainsi qu’apporter la stabilité requise. Des comparaisons avec d’autres modèles et des données expérimentales permettent de valider la méthode.Pour le rayonnement acoustique, la simulation de grand domaine en haute fréquence rendent inadapté l'utilisation de techniques conventionnelles (FEM, BEM, ...). La méthode proposée ici : la théorie variationnelle du rayon complexe est particulièrement bien adaptée à ce cas. Les principales caractéristiques de l'approche VTCR sont l'utilisation d'une formulation faible du problème acoustique, qui permet de considérer automatiquement les conditions limites entre sous-domaines. Ensuite, l'utilisation d'une répartition intégrale des ondes planes dans toutes les directions permet de simuler le champ acoustique. Les inconnues du problème sont leurs amplitudes. Cette méthode qui a déjà montré son efficacité pour les domaines fermés a été étendue au domaine ouvert et couplée à la réponse vibratoire. Des comparaisons avec des solutions analytiques et des simulations FEM à basse fréquence permettent de valider la méthode. / In a context of urban and transport network densification, people are increasingly exposed to noise. Consequently, the result of vibro-acoustic impact assessment has a pivotal role in rail network expansion. One of the main sources is the rolling noise: Roughness on the wheel and rail surface produce an imposed displacement one the both. This last, generates vibrational response of wheels and the railway track and their acoustic radiation. This PhD thesis presents some improvements of the vibro-acoustic railway track modelling.Concerning vibrational response, the infinite dimension in the longitudinal direction of the track and its deformation in the 3 dimensions, make the analytical models and finite elements non-optimal. The Semi-analytical finite element method (SAFEM), used in this thesis, is particularly well adapted in this case. Firstly, it is used to model railway track on a continuous support. Then, it is coupled with Floquet theorem to model tracks with a periodic support. However, this technique suffers from numerical problems that imposed an adapted algorithm. The second-order Arnoldi method (SOAR) is used to tackle them. This reduction allows to eliminate critical values improving the robustness of the method. Comparison with existing techniques and experimental results validate this model.Concerning acoustic radiation, big domains simulations at high frequency are almost unfeasible when using conventional techniques (FEM, BEM,…). The method used in this thesis, the Variational theory of complex ray (VTCR) is particularly well adapted to these cases. The principal features of VTCR approach are the use of a weak formulation of the acoustic problem, which allows to consider automatically boundary conditions between sub-domains. Then, the use of an integral repartition of plane waves in all the direction allow to simulate the acoustic field. The unknowns of the problem are their amplitudes. This method well assessed for closed domain, has been extended to open domain and coupled to vibrational response of the rail. Comparison with analytic solution and FEM simulation at low frequency allow to validate the method.Coupling these both methods allowed to simulate complex real life vibro-acoustic scenarios. Vitalita v architektonickém prostředí / Vitality in the architectonic environment

More and more research studies are being conducted on the quality of architectural space as a factor affecting our mental, social and physical health. In the past, this topic was often overlooked in its complexity. The establishment of the specialized fields of building biology, biophilic architecture and the works of Christopher Alexander and Nikos Salingaros now allow us to consider various facets of this subject. This dissertation aims to analyse the topic of vitality in architectural space by studying the abilities and perceptions of its users. Therefore its aim is not to develop a new theory of “vitality-enhancing architectural space”, but to describe how this phenomenon is perceived by the users themselves. Users can provide feedback on which features of architectural space they see as the most important for the feeling of vitality. These features have been hierarchically organized based on their perceived importance, analysed and described in detail to allow their relatively easy application in practice. This dissertation will also allow a comparison with other existing works on the studied topic.

Perceptions of Landscape Services Provided by Urban Green Infraestructure. The Case Study of a Campus Open Space

[ES] La infraestructura verde urbana ha surgido como un instrumento de excelencia del campus, que puede mejorar la calidad de las funciones y servicios suministrados, y fortalecer las relaciones entre el campus y la comunidad universitaria, y entre el campus y la ciudad. Los miembros de la comunidad universitaria interactúan a menudo con el paisaje del campus y experimentan un cierto nivel de satisfacción con los beneficios derivados de la gestión de los espacios abiertos. En la literatura, estos beneficios se conocen como servicios del paisaje. El perfil del usuario y los parámetros físicos del espacio juegan un papel crucial en la determinación de las funciones y servicios percibidos, lo que se refleja en la preferencia y en el uso del espacio por parte del público. Esta tesis contribuye al conocimiento de las relaciones entre las personas y su entorno exterior cercano en el contexto del paisaje del campus universitario de la Universitat Politècnica de València. El objetivo del estudio es evaluar la funcionalidad de la infraestructura verde urbana en el entorno del campus. Además, la tesis tiene como objetivo comprender cómo la percepción y la satisfacción están mediadas por el perfil de los miembros de la comunidad universitaria, y cómo se relacionan los servicios con la satisfacción. Esta investigación examina si las tipologías actuales de los espacios abiertos del campus satisfacen las preferencias de los miembros de la comunidad universitaria. Para llevar a cabo esta investigación, se ha diseñado una encuesta online. Se ha construido un modelo de ecuaciones estructurales para identificar las relaciones entre la oferta percibida de servicios del paisaje, el perfil de los encuestados y la satisfacción. Se han realizado regresiones lineales y análisis de rutas para analizar las preferencias de los encuestados por los espacios abiertos y explorar las relaciones entre los servicios del paisaje. Los resultados revelan que los encuestados perciben los espacios abiertos del campus principalmente por sus beneficios como proporcionar un espacio para relajarse, socializar con amigos y transitar. La edad, el género, la rama de conocimiento, la frecuencia de uso y la preferencia por el espacio abierto son factores que influyen en la calidad percibida de los servicios de paisaje. Los miembros de la comunidad universitaria prefieren usar espacios abiertos más grandes que se encuentren cerca de las áreas comunes y que brindan fácil acceso a los servicios e instalaciones del campus. Las características que principalmente condicionan la preferencia del espacio son la topografía variada del espacio, la diversidad de árboles y el mobiliario urbano bien equipado. Este trabajo contribuye al conocimiento sobre cómo las variables psicosociales, como la preferencia, la percepción y el uso, se pueden aplicar de manera efectiva en la planificación y el diseño de espacios abiertos. El perfil del públic i els paràmetres físics de l'espai juguen un paper crucial en la determinació de les funcions i serveis subministrats percebuts, la qual cosa es reflecteix en la preferència i en l'ús de l'espai per part del públic. Aquesta tesi contribueix al coneixement de les relacions entre les persones i el seu entorn exterior pròxim en el context del paisatge del campus universitari de la Universitat Politècnica de València. L'objectiu de l'estudi és avaluar la funcionalitat de la infraestructura verda urbana a l'entorn del campus. A més, la tesi té com a objectiu comprendre com la percepció i la satisfacció estan mediades pel perfil dels membres de la comunitat universitària, i com es relacionen els serveis amb la satisfacció. Aquesta investigació examina si les tipologies actuals dels espais oberts del campus satisfan les preferències dels membres de la comunitat universitària. Per a dur a terme aquesta investigació, s'ha dissenyat una enquesta en línia. S'ha construït un model d'equacions estructurals per a identificar les relacions entre l'oferta percebuda de serveis del paisatge, el perfil dels enquestats i la satisfacció. S'han realitzat regressions lineals i anàlisis de rutes per a analitzar les preferències dels enquestats pels espais oberts i explorar les relacions entre els serveis del paisatge. Els resultats revelen que els enquestats perceben els espais oberts del campus principalment pels seus beneficis com proporcionar un espai per a relaxar-se, socialitzar amb amics i passar. L'edat, el gènere, la branca de coneixement, la freqüència d'ús i la preferència per l'espai obert són factors que influeixen en la qualitat percebuda dels serveis de paisatge. Els membres de la comunitat universitària prefereixen usar espais oberts més grans que es troben prop de les àrees comunes i que brinden fàcil accés als serveis i instal·lacions del campus. Les característiques rellevants per a la preferència de l'espai són la topografia variada de l'espai, la diversitat d'arbres i el mobiliari urbà ben equipat. Aquesta investigació contribueix al coneixement sobre com les variables psicosocials, com la preferència, la percepció i l'ús, es poden aplicar de manera efectiva en la planificació i el disseny d'espais oberts. The university community members often interact with the campus landscape and experience a certain level of satisfaction with the benefits provided by the management of open space. In the literature, these benefits are known as landscape services. The public¿s profile and space physical parameters play a crucial role in determining the functions and perceived supplied services, which echoes in the public¿s preference and use of space. This thesis contributes to the knowledge of the relationships between people and their close outdoor environment in the context of the university campus landscape of Universitat Politècnica de València. The aim of the study is to assess the functionality of urban green infrastructure within the campus setting. Furthermore, the thesis aims to understand how perceptions and satisfaction are mediated by the university community profile, and how services and satisfaction are related. This research examines whether the current typologies of campus open spaces meet the preferences of university community members. To conduct this research, an online survey has been designed. A structural equation model has been built to identify the relationships between the perceived supply of landscape services, respondents¿ profile and satisfaction. Linear regression and path analysis have been conducted to analyse respondents' preferences for open space and explore the relationships among landscape services. Results highlight that respondents perceive campus open spaces mainly for its benefits such as providing a space for relaxation, socialising with friends and passing through. Age, gender, branch of knowledge, frequency of use and preference for open space are factors influencing the perceived quality of landscape services. University community members prefer using larger open spaces that are placed close to common areas and provide easy access to campus services and facilities. When it comes to preference, varied space topography, diversity of trees and well-equipped urban furniture, are relevant features. This research contributes to the knowledge on how psychosocial variables such as preference, perceptions and use, can be effectively applied in open space planning and design.
