Sociální vyloučení Romů na místní úrovni a strategie jeho překonávání / Social exclusion of Roma in community and strategies of its overcoming

The diploma thesis titled "Social exclusion of Roma at the local level and strategy of overcoming" is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. The goal of the thesis is to answer two main research questions: "What are the specific characteristics of life of the Roma in socially excluded locality Smíchov?" and "How do the Roma living in Smíchov perceive possibilities of the overcoming social exclusion of the Roma?". The theoretical part is insight into the problems of social exclusion of the Roma in the Czech Republic. It outlines the history of the Roma and the general concepts of coexistence of majority and minority. It also contains a description of the specific features of the social exclusion of the Roma in the Czech Republic and opportunities of social work in the Roma community. The theoretical part is followed by empirical part, which is based on a framework analysis of ten interviews with Roma respondents from Smíchov. The research examined the economic situation, social contacts, education level, life satisfaction and difficulties experience of discrimination and attitudes towards media image of Roma, politics and the police.

Sustainable Supply Chain Management through the integration of IoT: Road Transportation

Traditional transport companies usually focus on achieving economies of scale in supply chain management. At the same time, the managers of transport companies aiming to achieve sustainability often do not consider the barriers needed to overcome to achieve a sustainable supply chain. However, due to the increasing demand for sustainable products and business methods, sustainable supply chain management increasingly plays a crucial role in changing and diverting the focus on environmental, social and economic impact. Transport companies around the globe are increasingly aiming to reduce carbon emissions and eliminate biodiversity loss. The sustainability issues with transport in supply chain management have been a critical field of research for decades, and with the integration of technology, new ways of achieving sustainability are possible. This thesis analyses a phenomenon using multiple cases to investigate the barriers transport companies face to adopting IoT. Also, it deals with how communication service providers might be able to offer solutions to the barriers presented in this thesis.  A qualitative method has been used to approach the research topic. The findings will represent the ways of achieving a more efficient and sustainable supply chain, particularly in the transport sector. Interviews were conducted with multiple industry experts. The study aims to identify the barriers to adopting IoT, which can create a sustainable supply chain for transport companies. The results emphasise the barriers transport companies have to deal with internally and externally. Internally a company might struggle to strategise an infrastructural investment, train the existing workforce, and collaborate knowledge share among different departments. Externally, transport companies or communication service providers (CSP) will face limited resources, stakeholders' investment in the IoT ecosystem, demand for IoT and sustainable supply chain, privacy issues, compatibility issues and lack of skilled labour.

The comparative table of definitions of the Western, Chinese and Russian researchers, which allowed to define "business communication";The comparative table of features of business communication in China, Russia and Great Britain;The table which most fully and in detail classifies business letters ;The lexis, syntax, morphology, extra-linguistic features of Chinese language are created. These classifications, definitions can be useful in pedagogical activities in the fields of linguistics, psychology, translation, management, economics, as well as in further research on the study of overcoming difficulties in the translation of business letters from Chinese.

Цель — исследование стратегий преодолевающего поведения в поздней зрелости у педагогов общеобразовательных школ. Объектом исследования стали педагоги общеобразовательных школ Свердловской области в возрасте поздней зрелости. Предмет исследования — стратегии преодолевающего поведения в поздней зрелости. Магистерская диссертация состоит из введения, двух глав, заключения, списка литературы (113 источников) и приложения, включающего в себя бланки применявшихся методик. Объем магистерской диссертации 88 страниц, на которых размещены 3 рисунков и 6 таблиц. Во введении раскрывается актуальность проблемы исследования, разработанность проблематики, ставятся цель и задачи исследования, определяются объект и предмет исследования, а также этапы проведения исследования, научная новизна, теоретическая и практическая значимость работы, которая должна вылиться в разработку технологии консультирования по выбору стратегий преодолевающего поведения в поздней зрелости. Первая глава представляет собой обзор иностранной и отечественной литературы, содержащие теоретические аспекты исследования преодолевающего поведения в поздней зрелости. Представлены разделы, посвященные исследованию психологических особенностей людей в поздней зрелости и двум типам механизмов – психологической защите и стратегиям преодолевающего поведения. Выводы по первой главе представляют собой итоги по изучению теоретического материала. Подчеркивается важность психологических консультаций для людей в поздней зрелости, важность разговоров с ними о том, что существуют разные стратегии преодоления сложных случаев и проблем. Вторая глава посвящена эмпирической части исследования – опытно-поисковому исследованию стратегий преодолевающего поведения в поздней старости. В ней представлено описание организации и методик проведенного исследования и результатов, полученных по всем использованным методикам. Анализ уровня проявления механизмов психологической защиты проходил при помощи опросника Плутчика — Келлермана — Конте (LifeStyle Index). Для диагностического инструментария и исследования превалирующих стратегий преодолевающего поведения применялся опросник Стивена Хобфолла (Hobfoll) «Стратегии преодоления стрессовых ситуаций» (чаще всего именуется «Опросник SACS»), в основе которого лежит теория многоосевой модели поведения преодоления. В главе представлены результаты исследования. В качестве выводов предлагается практическая модель психологического консультирования в поздней зрелости. В заключении в обобщенном виде изложены результаты теоретической и эмпирической частей работы, обоснована практическая значимость исследования. Предложены пути и способы преодоления кризисного этапа в развитии личности в поздней зрелости с опорой на психотехнологии. / The goal is to study the strategies of overcoming behavior in late adulthood among teachers of secondary schools. The object of the study was teachers of secondary schools in the Sverdlovsk region at the age of late maturity. The subject of the research is the strategy of overcoming behavior in late adulthood. The master's thesis consists of an introduction, two chapters, a conclusion, a list of references (113 sources) and an appendix, which includes forms of the methods used. The volume of the master's thesis is 88 pages, which contain 3 figures and 6 tables. The introduction reveals the relevance of the research problem, the development of the problematics, sets the goal and objectives of the research, defines the object and subject of the research, as well as the stages of the research, scientific novelty, theoretical and practical significance of the work, which should result in the development of a technology for consulting on the choice of strategies for overcoming behavior in late maturity. The first chapter is a review of foreign and domestic literature, containing theoretical aspects of the study of overcoming behavior in late adulthood. Sections are presented devoted to the study of the psychological characteristics of people in late adulthood and two types of mechanisms - psychological defense and strategies for overcoming behavior. The conclusions on the first chapter are the results of the study of theoretical material. The importance of psychological counseling for people in late adulthood is emphasized, the importance of talking with them about the fact that there are different strategies for overcoming difficult cases and problems. The second chapter is devoted to the empirical part of the study - an experimental and exploratory study of strategies for overcoming behavior in late old age. It presents a description of the organization and methods of the study and the results obtained by all methods used. Analysis of the level of manifestation of psychological defense mechanisms was carried out using the Plutchik-Kellerman-Conte questionnaire (LifeStyle Index). For diagnostic tools and the study of prevailing coping behavior strategies, Stephen Hobfoll's Stress Coping Strategies questionnaire (most commonly referred to as the SACS Questionnaire) was used, which is based on the theory of a multi-axis model of coping behavior. The chapter presents the results of the study. As conclusions, a practical model of psychological counseling in late adulthood is proposed. In conclusion, the results of the theoretical and empirical parts of the work are summarized, and the practical significance of the study is substantiated. The ways and means of overcoming the crisis stage in the development of personality in late maturity based on psychotechnologies are proposed.

Vzdělávání dětí v uprchlických táborech / Educating children in refugee camps

According to UNHCR data from 2018, there are approximately seven and a half million school-age child refugees, with only 61% of them having access to primary education (versus 91% of the total child population). In Greece, child migrants have been around for several years, but they have not had access to education for a long time and some children still do not. The situation was dealt with in various alternative ways, through non-profit organizations, volunteers from around the world and refugees themselves. The thesis is conceived theoretically and empirically. The theoretical part of this thesis deals with these issues. It seeks to explore the educational situation of refugee children in the world, describes the recent migration crisis in Greece, deals with the right to educate refugee children at world and European level, and also in Greece, introduces educational opportunities for refugee children in Greece, both formal, provided by the state, and informal, provided by volunteers and non-profit organizations. In the empirical part, qualitative research examines the barriers that non-formal education providers have encountered in trying to deliver education to refugee children and describes the methods overcoming these barriers. It adopts the method of historical and dialectical materialism, in order to size the contradictions in the social construction of the inequalities, after the Federal Constitution of 1988. The thesis is linked to the research line: State, Educational institutions of the Program of Post-Graduation of PUC, Goiás, developed under the qualitative approach, of explanatory aspect, with documentary and statistical analyses, based on the last three censuses systematized by the consortiums UNDP, Ipea and FJP, published in 2012 and 2014. It chooses the Federative Unit of Goiás, in the simultaneous investigation of municipal spatiality and Human Development Units (HDU), which include the metropolitan areas of Goiânia and surrounding Federal District. The extreme twelfths are statistically used to encompass syntheses involving 246 municipalities and more than 400 HDU, which design dimensions of Educational Inequality rates (EIR) and Routes of Overcoming (RO). The analysis of the Brazilian concrete reality reveals how educational inequality of relief, for the last decade of the 20th century and first of the 21st, one schooling of only 55% of the graduating students from primary education. It demonstrates is a transmutation of this inequality in vulnerabilities education-income, involving social collective made unequal, sacrificed by poverty and indigence of children, elderly, mothers responsible for their homes, and workers without urban mobility. Education inequalities changing in vulnerabilities expose a refined quality of inequalities, not abstract. It is shown that the movement for overcoming the concrete reality passes by re-politicization of the State, from the popular collectives, constructing a new relation that overcomes the abstract plan to give way to the concrete. / O objeto da pesquisa é a desigualdade educacional no Brasil, analisado como medida de desenvolvimento humano, nos termos das componentes sociais e econômica aferidos pela longevidade, educação e renda. Adota-se o método do materialismo histórico e dialético, com vistas a apreender as contradições na construção social das desigualdades, após a Constituição Federal de 1988. A tese vincula-se à Linha de Pesquisa: Estado, Políticas e Instituições Educacionais do Programa de Pós-Graduação da PUC Goiás, desenvolvida sob a abordagem qualitativa, de caráter exploratório, com análise documental e estatística, com base nos três últimos censos sistematizados pelo consórcio PNUD, Ipea e FJP, publicados em 2012 e 2014. Escolhe-se a Unidade Federativa goiana, na investigação simultânea das espacialidades municipais e das Unidades de Desenvolvimento Humano (UDH), que englobam as Regiões Metropolitanas de Goiânia e do Entorno do Distrito Federal. Os duodécimos extremos são estatisticamente utilizados para abarcar sínteses que envolvem 246 municípios e mais de 400 UDH, que projetam dimensões de Taxas de Desigualdade Educacional (TdE) e Percursos de Superação (PeS). A análise da realidade concreta brasileira desvela como desigualdade educacional de relevo, para a última década do século XX e a primeira do XXI, uma escolarização de apenas 55% dos trabalhadores concluintes do ensino fundamental. Demonstra-se uma transmudação dessa desigualdade em vulnerabilidades educação-renda, envolvendo coletivos sociais feitos desiguais, sacrificados pela pobreza e indigência de crianças, idosos, mães chefes de domicílios e trabalhadores sem mobilidade urbana. Desigualdades educacionais transformando-se em vulnerabilidades expõem uma refinada qualidade das desigualdades, não mais abstratas. Mostra-se que o movimento para a superação da realidade concreta passa pela repolitização do Estado, a partir dos coletivos populares, construindo uma nova relação que supere o plano abstrato para dar lugar ao concreto.

To understand this question some aims were established: identifying difficulties encountered by teachers to teach in the initial phase of their career and also identifying the reactions and exceedances of these teachers face of these difficulties. Therefore, the subjects of this research are teachers that is working in the early years of elementary school; they are two beginning teachers; one of them starting her first year in the teaching profession working in state schools, in the arrangements of contracting temporary in the East Zone São Paulo. The second one acts in municipal, in the East Zone of the city of São Paulo, by two and a half years. Besides these two beginning teachers participated in the study two experienced teachers, who reported on the difficulties of the profession in their initial career. The procedures used for the research are composed of four instruments developed for this study: a questionnaire scale, an interview, observation in the classroom and an online questionnaire. This research was performed in 2013, and had as its theoretical basis the authors Michael Huberman, with the concepts relating to the beginning of the profession, Pierre Bourdieu; with the concepts of habitus and school cultural capital and Alda Marin with the concepts related to the area of didactics. Such concepts allow us to understand this stage of professional life and issues related to the formation and performance of teachers. The hypothesis established to guide the study is that the current situation may be repeated the previously existing difficulties that might lead to problems in basic education and add others on features of the current training that teachers fail to realize themselves in the teaching situation, therefore there is relationship between training and professional difficulties / Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo analisar a relação entre iniciação à carreira e dificuldades didáticas enfrentadas. Para atender a esse questionamento foram estabelecidos como objetivos: identificar dificuldades para ensinar encontradas pelos professores, na fase inicial da carreira e ainda, identificar as reações e superações desses professores diante dessas dificuldades. Portanto, os sujeitos desta pesquisa são professores atuantes nos anos iniciais do Ensino Fundamental; são dois professores iniciantes, sendo uma professora iniciando em seu primeiro ano na profissão docente, atuando na rede Estadual de Ensino, no regime de contratação temporária, na Zona Leste da cidade de São Paulo, o segundo professor iniciante, atua na rede municipal, na Zona Leste na cidade de São Paulo, há dois anos e meio. Além destes dois professores iniciantes participaram da pesquisa duas professoras experientes, que relataram sobre as dificuldades da profissão no seu início de carreira. Os procedimentos utilizados para a realização da pesquisa são compostos por quatro instrumentos construídos para este estudo: um questionário com escala, entrevista, observação em sala de aula e um questionário online. Esta pesquisa foi realizada em 2013, tendo como base teórica os autores, Michael Huberman com os conceitos relativos ao início da profissão, Pierre Bourdieu com os conceitos de habitus e capital cultural escolar e Alda Marin com os conceitos relativos à área da Didática. Tais conceitos permitem a compreensão dessa etapa da vida profissional e as questões relativas à formação e o desempenho dos professores. A hipótese estabelecida para orientar o estudo é a de que na situação atual reiteram-se as dificuldades anteriormente existentes que ocasionam problemas na educação fundamental e acrescentam outras diante das características da formação atual em que os professores não conseguem se perceber na situação de ensino, havendo, portanto relação entre formação e dificuldades profissionais

WHEN WRITING BECOMES NIGHTMARE: HELPING STUDENTS PINPOINT WRITING TOPICS

When deciding on topics for academic research papers, many students face difficulties that vary from choosing themes whose scope is too extensive to be satisfactorily analyzed in the given task, to selecting topics that are too limited, to not being able to make a decision on a topic at all. Such struggles seem to manifest themselves in both native and non-native speakers of English. Despite extensive research on the writing process and its strategies, be it for academic writing or other genres, and even research focused on writers’ difficulties, previous research has found little about the troubles students must overcome when deciding on a research topic, and how to overcome them. This study employed a qualitative case study design with two graduate students in a master’s program in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, who were enrolled in two sections of a course on research, to investigate these students’ writing processes as they defined a topic for their literature review research paper. Through an in-depth analysis of samples of their writing in combination with their verbal reports, collected during individual semi-structured interviews, this case study examined how two graduate students successfully calibrated their topics, which strategies they employed to that end, and how their instructors’ actions helped them in the process. Consequently, the findings shed light on instructional practices, and their implications for teachers’ training programs.

Lived Experiences of Women Over 50 Who Have Experienced Involuntary Job Loss

Both the short-term and long-term unemployment rates for older workers in the United States have increased significantly since the 2007 recession. Researchers who examine the impact of involuntary job loss have predominantly focused on the experiences of men. Limited prior research exists on the job loss experiences of women over 50 years of age compared to men. The goal of this study was to address this gap in knowledge by examining the lived experiences of women over 50 who had experienced involuntary job loss, the barriers faced to reemployment, and the ways women overcame the barriers to reemployment. A phenomenological design was employed to gather data from a convenience sample of 10 women in a northeastern metropolitan city. Guided by the frameworks of Bandura and Leana and Feldman, this transcendental approach aimed to capture the lived experiences of the women who incurred involuntary job loss. Data transcribed from audio-taped interviews were manually coded and aligned with the appropriate research question. The findings highlighted the emotions, finances, family and social life of women following job loss. The findings suggest women faced age discrimination, organizational practices, technological challenges, and stereotypical beliefs in their attempts toward reemployment. The results of the study can be used to inform organizational leaders of the need for greater emphasis on programs offering solutions to older female workers seeking reemployment. The study promotes potential positive social change by informing organizational leaders of the experiences of women over 50 who had experienced involuntary job loss.
