Climate Change Leadership - the case for Electrification

Ribbing, Per January 2019 (has links)
This licentiate thesis presents a new way of understanding Electric Power. The new perspective on Electric Power highlights the similarities between our banking system and our power system. The two different systems share a common abstraction. In the case of the banking system this abstraction is fully accepted. In the case of the power system this abstraction is not yet fully accepted. This thesis aims to clarify this abstraction and show the parallelism between the two systems and the two abstractions. This thesis examines what the Product Electricity really is. What is it, in reality, we sign a power contract to buy and pay for, and how is this product transferred to us? This new understanding challenges the old, physical understanding of Electric Power. Understanding the similarity between our banking system and our power system becomes important when we examine our Power Markets, and it becomes absolutely vital to understand for those investing in new power generation. In no way does this new understanding of Electric Power question or challenge the physics behind power generation and power transfer. Maxwell’s equations holds true. The laws of Ohm and Kirchhoff are still the laws by which the electrical and power system engineers must abide. But when it comes to the Product Electricity, the product traded on our Power Markets, the product that we sign power contracts to buy and pay for, there is a major difference. The new understanding challenges the old quite dramatically. It does in fact show that the old, physical perspective on the Product Electricity is flawed and has been a misconception for over a century. My primary goal in this thesis is to thoroughly explain the new perspective and by so doing clarify and dissolve the old misconception of what the Product Electricity actually is. The scientific theory of the Greenhouse Effect now has over 195 years of published peer-reviewed science.[[i]] The threat of accelerating Climate Change is a scientifically solid fact. The Paris agreement must be met. My second goal with this thesis is to make credible that an electrification of our society is a possible and viable option. The possibility of a swift energy transition from fossil fuels to renewable electricity is made more likely, and more viable, thanks to the new understanding of what Electric Power really is, because now we have the de facto choice of not consuming any fossil power. © Per Ribbing, April 2019 [i] Joseph Fourier, Remarques générales sur les températures du globe terrestre et des espaces planétaires”, Annales de Chimie et de Physique, 27, 1824, p. 136-167

A exporatory of paradigm happening from Taiwan shipping forwarders loading on China market

Wong, Annie 02 January 2004 (has links)
Past discussions about paradigm shift mostly put emphasis on evolution, exploiting paradigm shift or not and exist or not. Existence or not problem basically fall into block logic and expire the possibility of recombination. The dissertation explore the happening of paradigm shift according to the loading on China shipping forwarder market from 1987-2001 for Taiwan shipping forwarders, focus on exploring happening than evolution. In the second chapter about literature reviews, the dissertation explore merchant economy context analysis approach instead of usual industrial economy analysis more fit with the specialty of service industry about shipping forwarder industry. And make definition about paradigm and paradigm shift analysis in the merchant economy context. This dissertation build the methodology in oral history and action research. The third chapter introduce a case study to describe the 15 years loading on China shipping market process with the view of Taiwan shipping forwarders. The forth chapter explore the pre-loading on paradigm in Taiwan and the fifth one the post-loading on paradigm in China market. The opposite paradigm appreciate the difference and content. Then, according to merchant economy context analysis approach to create four propositions to present the happening of paradigm shift including the inspiration of paradigm shift, the progress of paradigm shift, the development of paradigm shift, and the fulfilling of paradigm shift. New findings take much look the inspiration of paradigm shift with truly recombination happened, secondly, entrepreneurial make the progress of paradigm shift as positive adjustment and adoption to fit with local law regulations instead of abidance. Keeping with competition and cooperation relationship apply further the new resources in the development of paradigm shift. Finally, entrepreneurial concentration the ownership and control will fulfill paradigm shift.

Marturia in the Gospel of John : towards an emerging, missional ecclesiology within a South African Dutch Reformed context

Smit, Guillaume H 08 June 2011 (has links)
In “Marturia and the Gospel of John” the following hypothesis is investigated: Theological investigation of the ìáñôõñéá lexeme in the Gospel of John contributes significantly towards an understanding of an emerging, missional ecclesiology. The study is precipitated by the accelerated pace of change our society is currently experiencing. The technological developments of the past fifty years created a society that is totally dependent on the technology it developed. This dependence led to the developing of a new cultural paradigm in which the church is ill at home. Not only are the ecclesial structures ill-adapted to effectively minister to people who increasingly live in a different cultural milieu, but also the premises upon which itstheology is built, has increasingly come under scrutiny. The question of an emerging, missional ecclesiology is therefore not only a question of developing new ministry praxis. Neither is it a matter of reframing theological theses with new metaphors. A growing realisation exists of the need for theological research from the perspective of this developing new paradigm. Theology needs to turn to Scripture in a quest for such answers and it is proposed that a hermeneutic approach should be taken towards this investigation. This exegetical study is conducted from a New Testament perspective, specifically focusing on the Gospel of John. It is done through a sequential reading of the Gospel with special emphasis on the pericopes that contain the word-group, marturiva. Finally, the insights gathered from this study are systemized into a framework that aims to contribute towards the further development of an emerging, missional ecclesiology. It will be argued that ecclesiology serves as the integration point for reflection and practical missional ministry. As such, the church as object of investigation is the ultimate technological praxis, as the community of believers serves as the show-case of God’s presence in this world, as sacrament of his redemptive mission, and as mediator of the governance in his kingdom. Outline of the study In Chapter One attention is given to the changing cultural paradigm and the implications this holds for ministry as well as for theology. These changes are presented as the study’s research problem. The Gospel of John is also introduced as a case study in the ongoing development of an emerging, missional ecclesiology as foundational cornerstone to a postmodern theological paradigm. In Chapter Two the framework from which the hermeneutical study is undertaken, is established. A bird’s eye view of the Gospel of John is attempted and a preliminary investigation into the marturiva lexeme is also undertaken. Chapter Three investigates the testimony of John the Baptist, as recounted in John’s Gospel from John 1-4. Chapter Four reads the second part of Jesus’ public ministry, starting with John 5 and continuing until John concludes his narrative of this section of Jesus’ mission in John 12. Chapter Five studies John’s account of Jesus’ conversation with his disciples in John 13-17. It also reads John 18-21, which comprises of the Passion narrative and the Epilogue to the Gospel. In Chapter Six the matter at hand will be the development of an emerging, missional ecclesiology as a result of the exegetical study of John’s Gospel. Finally, we conclude the study by exploring some issues that need further investigation. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2011. / New Testament Studies / unrestricted

THE IMPACT OF WORKERS NOT RETURNING TO THE JOB MARKET: WHERE HAVE THEY GONE

Smith, Crystal, 0000-0003-1165-0642 January 2023 (has links)
The objective of this study is to understand the paradigm shift that unfolded throughout the “Great Resignation\Reshuffling” (2020-2022) within the minds of individuals post March 2021. To fully understand the Great Resignation, one must look at the year prior to the event. In March of 2020, the world changed as billions of individuals watched as boundaries, academic institutions, government agencies and corporations shut their doors all in the name of containment of the infectious disease known as Coronavirus (COVID-19). As cases increased across the global, organizations had to reassess the human capital cost considering dwindling revenue and executive orders that closed all nonessential businesses. The decision by U.S organizations to furlough and/or lay off workers led to approximately 23 million Americans unemployed and standing in a place of ambiguity. Over the next two (2) years, the government worked in collaboration with organizations to instate policies/protocols to re-open America and return life to the new normal inclusive of working online and in person. However, Americans were slow to return to the workforce that once so flippantly provided them a termination letter. The stagnation in ready and able bodies willing to return to the workforce has led to a labor shortage. Despite several efforts to incentivize individuals to return, the statistics did not reflect the desired outcome and the cause was and is relatively unknown. In light of this unprecedent phenomenon, this study utilized a netnography to explore the Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and Bullshit Job Theory within the framework of re-engaging in the job market after the pandemic. The findings from study one (1) suggest that a newfound sense of worth, salary, stress steward of care, and stumbling blocks are the leading factors that may prohibit individuals from returning to work. As individuals remained on the work sidelines a spillover effect started to unfold. Those individuals working had to shoulder the work of those who had not yet returned and an uptick in quit rates soon emerged known as the Great Resignation. Consequently, the organizations started to cannibalize the job market creating an environment for individuals to resign and explore new opportunities. To investigate this phenomenon, study two (2) performed a deep dive into the subreddit “r/antiwork:” to explore why individuals were quitting their jobs. The data from study two (2) indicates 20% of the high engaging posts on the subreddit thread of “r/antiwork” can be associated with one (1) of the five (5) categories defined as a Bullshit job. / Business Administration/International Business Administration

The Cognitive Revolution – Fact or Fiction? : Using topic modelling to look for signs of a paradigm shift in a Swedish journal

Fagerlind, Johannes January 2023 (has links)
Traditionally, when social scientists wanted to analyze large amounts of documents, they have resorted to using manual coding techniques. This process can be made easier by using machine learning approaches. One such approach, called topic modelling, can find which words commonly occur together and in doing so provide the researcher with semantically coherent topics. This thesis utilizes topic modelling to investigate Nordic Psychology, a psychology journal published in the Nordic languages. Articles published between 1949 and 2005 are examined to map out how discourse has changed during the second half of the 20:th century. Psychology textbooks and researchers active in the late sixties frequently refer to something called the cognitive revolution taking place. Accounts of this revolution paint a picture of something resembling a paradigm shift. This thesis therefore sets out to look for signs of the cognitive revolution being a paradigm shift. The topic model used in this thesis does however not find the traces of a paradigm shift within the dataset, suggesting that if a paradigm shift did take place, it was not reflected in the Nordic Psychology journal.

How wellbeing economic projects help contribute to a paradigm shift : Altering the path to a Wellbeing Economy

Leth, Malin, Al-Ali, Basil January 2021 (has links)
This study aims to look at the processes used when creating wellbeing economic projects to further understand what key themes there are. It applies Path-Dependency theory, consisting of Path-Dependence and Path-Creation to see if the chosen aspects are relevant to creating wellbeing projects and altering the path from the Anthropocene. Analysis is conducted on 45 implemented wellbeing economic projects from the Wellbeing Economy Alliance. After formulating questions based on this, interviews are carried out with ten experienced wellbeing leaders to gain a deeper understanding of what could be learned from their experiences of success and failure within wellbeing projects. The main findings of the study show that to effectively alter the path, power should be dispersed between as many people as possible, people are driven by a larger vision than specifics and it is essential for governments and the private sector to communicate with people to understand what they value in regards to wellbeing.

An Investigation into the Current Status of the Paradigm Shift in Technical Writing Textbook Pedagogy.

Byrd, Terre D.M. 04 May 2002 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of this thesis is to determine whether a paradigm shift is occurring or has occurred in technical writing textbooks since 1994. This study will further the work of Jerold J. Jeansonne, who chronicled the paradigm shift in technical writing textbooks from 1900 to 1994. Using product and process orientation guidelines, this thesis will examine several technical writing textbooks produced after 1994. The findings will then be calculated to determine the present status of the paradigm shift. The thesis will also propose that the technical writing paradigm shift mirrors the paradigm shift in academic writing textbooks. To make this connection, the rhetoric of Aristotle will be employed to show that textbooks, whether they are academic or technical, are essentially argumentative. In light of this, particular attention will be given to Aristotle's characteristics of artistic argument: rational, ethical, and emotional appeal.

Behind the wheel : A closer look at influential relationships among internal factors driving a technological paradigm shift

Helleblad Nymo, Carl-Oscar January 2019 (has links)
Global sustainability awareness and governmental regulations are pushing the automotive industry into finding alternatives to carbon dioxide emitting products. Solutions utilizing electricity in the vehicle powertrain is overtaking market share from internal combustion engines (ICE). This tendency has spread into the heavy-duty truck segment which poses questions regarding the future of the ICE. An alternative, electric motors, powered with batteries, fuel cells of even ICE’s, is thought to become a core part of future mobility. To mitigate discontinuities during a shift from ICE to electric motors, a study of possible factors affecting such transition has been performed. The result indicates 14 main factors which are thought to have a definite role in a major technology paradigm shift. These factors are: Supplier relations, Material management, Material availability, Available space, Scalability, Product flexibility, Risk management, External resource utilization, Internal relations, Demand estimation, Management endorsement, Appropriate methodology, Employee engagement, and Competence renewal. A structure using ISM methodology is established highlighting the factors’ influencing relation to each other. Anchored in the theory regarding paradigmatic shifts within industry, a tendency of technological, managerial, and institutional influence on organizational change can be discerned where the institutional level poses as the fundamental dimension of derived quality. The factors are identified from a Scania specific case but are broad enough to apply to similar situations facing challenges of a technological paradigm shift.
