Donald Trump’s candidacy for president has led to a substantial debate not only in the Republican party but also in the media. Using a two-dimensional theoretical model consisting of the left-right scale and the GAL-TAN scale, this study aims to review the conflict that Donald Trump’s campaign has led to in the Republican party. Using content analysis, a range of statements from Republicans have been analyzed, aiming to answer the following questions; How do the republican political actors contend for or against Donald Trump’s candidacy? and: what material or post-material values are linked to these arguments and statements? This study shows that the conflict following Donald Trump’s candidacy can mainly be placed in the post-material conflict dimension, even though some left-right arguments can also be found in the studied material. The political actors supporting Trump’s candidacy are mainly using arguments possible to place in the TAN-part of the post-material conflict dimension, whereas the actors criticizing Trump are mainly using arguments possible to place in the GAL-part.

This essay examines two communist parties in Sweden; The Communist Party (Kommunistiska partiet [KP]) and Sweden's Communist party (Sveriges kommunistiska parti [SKP]). Furthermore, this essay is a comparative study where the two parties' political agendas are compared. The method with which the study was conducted is a quantitative content analysis, where the frequencies of usage pertaining to certain words and expressions have been measured. The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx has also been compared to these two parties' political agendas concerning words and expressions. This was done in order to determine which of the examined parties stands closer to the aforementioned original document from an ideological perspective. År 1935 invaderar Italien under ledning av Benito Mussolini Etiopien, på den tiden kallat Abessinien. Kriget föregicks av en lång tids mobilisering och debatt, både i omvärlden och i Sverige. Den här uppsatsen handlar om hur tidningarna Ny Dag och Folkets Dagblad påverkades av Sovjetunionens politik gentemot Abessinienkrisen 1935 i deras egna ställningstaganden i Abessinienkrisen, samt hur det påverkade deras syn på antikrigsdemonstrationer i Sverige. Ny Dag var partitidning för Sveriges Kommunistiska Parti och Folkets Dagblad för Socialistiska Partiet. Källmaterialet i denna uppsats består av bevarade upplagor ifrån Ny Dag och Folkets Dagblad som finns i Kungliga bibliotekets mediearkiv. Undersökningen är uppdelad i två tidsperioder, mellan januari-juli 1935 samt juli-oktober 1935. Detta för att Kominterns kongress äger rum i augusti 1935 samt att kriget bryter ut i oktober. Även om båda tidningarna var motståndare till Italiens invasion av Abessinien visar resultatet av denna undersökning på att det rådde stora motsättningar mellan tidningarna om hur antikrigsarbetet skulle föras, samt att tidningarnas relationer till Sovjetunionen i hög grad präglade tidningarnas ställningstaganden. Detta var extra tydligt efter Kominterns 7:e kongress i augusti 1935, då tidningarna upptog en bitter och intensiv rivalitet gentemot varandra kring Abessinienfrågan. Medan Ny Dag i stort sett var helt eniga med Kominterns riktlinjer gällande Abessinienkrisen och på vilket sätt antikrigsarbetet skulle föras, ställde sig Folkets Dagblad skarpt kritiskt till Komintern och Ny Dag i dessa frågor. Ämnen som tidningarna kom att vara oense om var Sovjetunionens roll i Abessinienkrisen, Nationernas Förbunds roll samt Sveriges roll och hur antikrigsrörelsen i Sverige skulle mobiliseras.

I have chosen to analytically describe the relatively newly formed party Partiet Nyans. The reason I have chosen this particular party is because there is a so-called research gap that I intend to some extent fill with knowledge. There is thus an intra-scientific relevance. I also believe that there are not many parties in Sweden that distance themselves from ideologies, perhaps even this party is alone in that (when it comes to parliamentary ambitions). There is thus a reluctance on the part of the party's founders to label the party ideologically. The extra-scientific relevance can thus illuminate for ordinary voters what social vision the party actually has and which direction the compass shows. The questions to be answered are the following; Which ideology is the Party Nyans closest to? To what extent is the Nuance Party Islamist? To what extent is Partiet Nyans identity politics? The goal is to try to interpret Partiet Nyan's positions on their website where they list their policies and from their circle which ideology they are closest to. The method that is best suited in this case is thus a qualitative content method with an ideological analytical classification. The conclusion is that the Nuance Party is closest to identity politics and that the party is to a very small extent Islamist. Regarding the last issue, as mentioned above, the party is largely identity-political and minority-friendly, especially when it comes to Muslim rights.

Från Reagan till Trump: Populistiska uttryck inom det republikanska partiet 1980–2017 är en kandidatuppsats av Angelica Carlsson. Syftet med studien är att förklara förekomsten av populistiska uttryck inom det republikanska partiet i USA under tidsperioden 1980–2017. Populistiska uttryck i politiska tal av presidenterna Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush och Donald Trump undersöks och graderas utifrån Kirk A. Hawkins sex kriterier över populism. Talen analyseras också utifrån de teoretiska begreppen tunn respektive tjock populism. För att förklara de populistiska uttrycken beaktar studien den historiska kontexten och utvecklingslinjer inom det republikanska partiet. Utifrån studiens resultat kan konstateras att de populistiska uttrycken är högst i Reagans och Trumps tal, medan Bushs tal har en lägre grad av populism. I studien förklaras detta utifrån den historiska kontexten, där 1980 och 2016 präglades av mer politisk instabilitet än 2000. Studien belyser hur populism inte uppstår ur tomma intet utan ska förstås i relation till kontexten i vilken den uttrycks. / From Reagan to Trump: Populist expressions within the Republican Party 1980–2017 is a bachelor thesis by Angelica Carlsson. The aim of the thesis is to explain populist expressions within the Republican Party in the United States during the period 1980–2017. Populist expressions in political speeches by the presidents Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush and Donald Trump are investigated and graded based on Kirk A. Hawkin's criteria of populism. The thesis is also taking the theoretical terms thin and thick populism into consideration. In order to explain the populist expressions the historical context and the historical development of the Republican Party is taken into account. The main findings of the thesis is that Reagan's and Trump's speeches has the highest degree of populist expressions, while Bush's speeches has a lower degree of populist expressions. The study explains this from the historical context, where 1980 and 2016 were characterized by more political instability than 2000. The study illustrates how populism does not arise from nothing and should be understood in relation to the historical context.
