Interdisciplinary Collaboration for Youth Mental Health: A National Study

Walsh, Audra St. John 01 January 2013 (has links)
Collaboration between school- and community-based mental health professionals has the potential to result in early identification of and intervention for youth with mental health problems; however, the limited research in this area suggests that collaboration does not often occur between these professionals (Walsh, 2011). The purpose of this investigation was to collect survey data from a national sample of school psychologists in order to examine the collaborative practices of school psychologists and community-based mental health professionals on behalf of youth with mental health problems. Survey data from 327 members of 11 professional state organizations of school psychology were collected and analyzed. Data indicate that all respondents communicated and 77% collaborated with community-based mental health professionals at least once during the 2011-2012 school year. The primary purpose of this communication was to obtain or provide information to community-based professionals. Respondents communicated and collaborated most commonly with community-based counselors and therapists and least commonly with neurologists. Barriers to collaboration included a lack of time, inaccessible community-based professionals, and obtaining parent consent to collaborate. Significant relationships were found in communication and collaboration frequencies and number of professional development hours received related to mental health, as well as between collaboration frequency and the primary professional role of the school psychologist. Significant relationships were not found between communication or collaboration frequencies related to the highest degree earned or the years experience of the school psychologist, the socio-economic status of the student population, the number of students served, or the number of schools served by the school psychologist. Furthermore, significant results were not obtained for predicting collaboration frequency by the percentage of students with internalizing or externalizing problems. Implications of these findings are discussed in relation to strategies and policy recommendations for professional organizations and supervisors of school- and community-based mental health professionals to foster systems-level interdisciplinary collaboration for the promotion of mental health and wellness in youth.

Closing the achievement gap with family-school partnerships

Sutter, Amy Gorham 09 August 2012 (has links)
The achievement gap is an important problem with serious consequences for the United States’ economy. A long history of oppression has contributed to a substantial gap in achievement between students of minority status or low socioeconomic status and their white or higher income peers. Large scale efforts to address this problem have been unsuccessful in substantially reducing the problem. As parent involvement has been linked to student achievement, capitalizing on strong family-school partnerships offers a valuable opportunity to target student achievement. Low-income and minority parents face many barriers to parent involvement. If schools embrace a more inclusive view of parent involvement and collaborate with parents to reduce these barriers, however, successful family-school partnerships may be formed. Themes for creating such partnerships include recognizing that parents care about their children’s education and want them to succeed, treating parents as equal partners in the educational process, and using innovative techniques to solve problems. / text

The role of public/private partnerships in the management of public lands

Diana, Julia Barton 21 November 2013 (has links)
A public-private partnership (PPP) is defined as a joint effort by government and the private sector for the management, operation, and funding of a venture or service. Increasingly, government has looked to the private sector for financial support and the streamlining of processes as concerns about the public debt have risen and priorities for spending have narrowed. The users and “customers” of a public good often have a stake in the way it is managed, especially in the case of parkland, which has the ability to dramatically affect the property values surrounding it, either positively or negatively. Therefore a PPP may have many purposes: as a fundraising mechanism, as an advocate for stakeholders, and as a promoter for programming for the attainment of educational and recreational goals. Ultimately, the role of the PPP is to be a liaison, knitting together the resources bestowed upon the public by the government entity with those of the less regulated private world. This study investigates both the challenges of forming a partnership that protects the public interest as well as the factors that are critical to forming a “successful” partnership. An examination of what led to the rise of public/private partnerships historically is included as well as the business models and mission statements of contemporary lead organizations at both the national and local level. In order to gain an in-depth understanding of the complexities of these partnerships, I individually interviewed professionals from both the public and private sides who have had careers in public land acquisition and management. Their viewpoints provide enriching details and reveal several common themes. Subjects were asked about the benefits of creating PPPs and how those benefits have been distributed, and what factors have contributed to successful PPPs. Furthermore, they reflected on tensions that have arisen within these partnerships. And finally they were asked about their overarching philosophies regarding government’s responsibility to its constituency versus the interests of the private sector. The report reveals that there is no set formula to be followed step by step in the creation and subsequent evolution of a public/private partnership, though certain principles emerge as essential components of a strong and effective organization. These are: having a clear understanding of the partnership’s misson and goals, being flexible and getting creative, making friends with everyone, and courting the local population who live around the parkland. Because there are several of these partnerships being formed to support parks in San Antonio, Texas at the time of this report, I placed emphasis on local statistics and anecdotes while compiling the opinions of area experts who have a long history of activism in this region. It is my intent that the findings reported herein provide some guidance for the future leadership of these local organizations in the context of local issues. / text

Privat-offentliga partnerskap : -fallet Strängnäs Business Park

Joanna, Mayta Lavalle January 2015 (has links)
Cooperation between public and private actors are becoming more common and it means that the public sphere is organized differently than before. The new form of control is carried out through horizontal relationships, as a result governance. A form of governance is the PPP (private-public partnership), which involves public and private actors getting together to solve problems. In order to explain the relation between PPP and Elster triangle dilemma I have chosen to make an empirical case study of the development Strängnäs Business Park (SBP) in Strängnäs. I have studied three high-ranking roles involved in the project. I have used a theoretical interpretation and the starting point of the essay has been the interviews and SBP development plan. The study is based on two issues that is to understand how the different actors understand the partnership and what relationships they have to Elster three requirements (democracy, efficiency and the constitution). The results of the study show that the different actors have diverse interpretations of what a partnership is and who the partners are. The result also shows that SBP today work more with efficiency than democracy and the rule of law.   Keywords: Governance, partnership, public-private partnership (PPP), constitutional, efficiency, democracy

Implementation of the Nurse Family Partnership Program in Pima County Rural Communities

Hutzler, Rachel January 2013 (has links)
The Nurse Family Partnership (NFP) program is a home visitation program that targets low income parents expecting their first child. With the nurse delivering services, the program is designed to facilitate positive changes that improve health outcomes for the woman and her baby. Despite successful program implementation in mostly urban communities across the United States, obstacles exist to implement Nurse Family Partnership in rural communities. The purpose of this practice inquiry was to collaborate with Pima County Health Department and Nurse Family Partnership to evaluate the feasibility of implementing the Nurse Family Partnership program in Pima County rural communities. As part of this practice inquiry collaboration, the first aim completed a community assessment of Arivaca to identify rural community strengths and potential barriers to implementation and thus serve as an implementation prototype for Pima County Health Department. Descriptive statistics were utilized from the Arizona Department of Health Services Arizona Vital Statistics, U.S. Census Bureau, and Arizona Department of Health Services needs assessment data sets to assess population characteristics and the Nurse Family Partnership eligible population in Arivaca. Additionally, a windshield survey was conducted to assess community referral capacity and/or program champions, existing public/community health programs or services linkages, and issues due to rurality such as transportation challenges and driving time/distances. The second practice inquiry aim developed an implementation plan, including an evaluation component, alongside Pima County Health Department that expands Nurse Family Partnership into additional rural communities in Pima County. The Nurse Family Partnership implementation plan template was utilized to identify community need and population characteristics, Pima County Health Department mission and culture, organization capacity, nursing practice and support, community linkages, sustainability, and financing and fiscal policy support. Descriptive statistics were utilized from the Arizona Department of Health Services Arizona Vital Statistics, U.S. Census Bureau, and Arizona Department of Health Services needs assessment data sets to describe a community profile to complete the Nurse Family Partnership implementation plan template. This practice inquiry demonstrated that completion of a windshield survey and review of descriptive data sets in the proposed service areas helps to identify community referral capacity and/or program champions, existing public/community health programs or services linkages, and issues due to rurality. This process can be used as a prototype for Pima County Health Department prior to implementation in the entire proposed service area.

Konkurrensmedel inom Outdoorbranschen : En studie i hur man kan förbättra samarbetet mellan leverantörer och återförsäljare inom den svenska Outdoorbranschen / Means for competitive advantage within the outdoor industry : A study of how to improve the relationship between supplier and retailer within the Swedish outdoor industry

Lans, Astrid, Sandberg, Anders January 2010 (has links)
