I ett naturreservat intill en camping i utkanten av Järnaområdet skapades en ny typ av Folkets hus. Byggnaden är placerad i sydostlig riktning på toppen av en udde, med ett stort entréplan som starten av huset som sedan klättrar sig ned längs med landskapet mot stranden, där man finner den avslutande badplatsen. Det inrymmer en hosteldel med café och en butik för cykel- och båtuthyrning, samt försäljning av allt som hör friluftsliv till, för att knyta samman platsen och byggnaden med naturreservatet och de motionerare som på olika sätt tar sig till platsen. Här finns även en restaurang, konferenssal, utställning samt öppna gemensamma ytor så som offentliga kontor, mötesrum och ett gemensamt allrum där centrets olika gäster kan möstas. Alla dessa ytor knyts samman av en serie trappor som klättrar med byggnaden ner för berget, med öppna plattformar där man närsomhelst kan kliva av och på byggnaden. Naturreservatets redan befintliga stråk har jobbats in i projektet och passerar genom byggnadens entréplattform och fortsätter vidare från butiksplanet, våningen under. Från byggnaden kommer nya stigar skapas genom besökarnas naturliga rörelse genom och runt alla avsatser. / In a nature reserve next to a campsite on the outskirts of the Järna area, a new type of Folkets hus was created. The building is located in a south-easterly direction on top of a headland, with a large entrance floor as the start of the house which then climbs down along the landscape towards the beach, and ends with a bathing spot. It houses a hostel part with a café and a shop for bicycle- and boat rental, as well as sales of everything that belongs to outdoor life, to connect the place and the building with the nature reserve and the exercisers who pass through the place in different ways. There is also a restaurant, conference hall, exhibition and open common areas such as public offices, meeting rooms and a common living room where the center's various guests can meet. All these surfaces are connected by a series of stairs that climb with the building down the mountain, with open platforms where you can exit and enter the building at any time. The nature reserve's already existing trail have been worked into the project and pass through the building's entrance platform and continue on from the store floor, one floor below. From the building, new paths will be created through the visitors' natural movement through and around all ledges.

Vårdinge Folkets Hus är ett förslag på en ny samlingsplats i Vårdinge Kyrkby, mellan Mölnbo och Gnesta. Två skilda funktioner möts i byggnaden, en produktion med kvarn och bageri, och ett folkets hus med hörsal och mötesrum. Mellanrummet och kopplingen dem emellan har styrt husets uppbyggnad. Ett centralt genomgående rum separerar och förenar de båda funktionskärnorna och följer upp axeln från kyrkans entré, in i folkets hus, och ner mot vattnet. Byggnaden öppnas ytterligare upp med genomgångar som korsar huvudaxeln och skapar sekundära privatare rörelser. Alltsammans omsluts av samma tak och trygga grundmur. Långbordet och ugnen blir centrala punkter i Vårdinge Folkets Hus med målet att skapa en plats för byn att förenas på och att skapa en inkubator som gör byn mer resilient för landsbygdens förändring. / Vårdinge People's House is a proposal for a new community centre in Vårdinge Kyrkby, between Mölnbo and Gnesta. Two different functions meet in the building, a production with a mill and bakery, and a people's house with an auditorium and meeting room. The space and the connection between them has guided the construction of the house. A central continuous room separates and unites the two nuclei of function and follows up the axis from the entrance of the church, into the house of the people, and down towards the water. The building is further opened up with passages that cross the main axis and create secondary private movements. Everything is surrounded by the same roof and secure foundation wall. The long table and the oven will be central points in Vårdinge People's House with the aim of creating a place for the village to unite and to create an incubator that makes the village more resilient to the changes of the rural area.

The concept for Nynäshamn’s new house for the people is a flexible, living building with possibilities for adaptation. The idea is to not dictate what the people need, but instead create a space that can develop and adapt over time with the help of movable walls suspended from a grid of rails in the ceiling. A large unobstructed space is needed to house all manner of activities and the outer shell of the building is designed to enable that, with steel truss work spanning 42 meters. Steel and glass were chosen as practical materials for constructing a large hall without columns, but is also a long lasting material that can be recycled. The overhead rail system is simple to use and the walls can be pushed by hand, so that using the building becomes highly intuitive and immediate change is possible.

Norr om Järna vid den befintliga hästgården Bergtorp fanns förutsättningar för en ny typ av byggnad som kombinerar flera aktiviteter. Hästarnas betydelse på platsen fick genomsyra Folkets hus genom en ridhall med diversitet och flexibilitet för ett hållbart socialt liv i landsbygden. Ladans betydelse och historia i lantbruksorten Järna är den stora inspirationen till mitt Folkets Hus. Den långa strukturen med sadeltak liknar en lada till form och färg, men formgivning och interiör skapar en ny tolkning där en samtida mötesplats för flera målgrupper står i fokus. Byggnaden består av ett yttre och ett inre skal som tillsammans skapar en ytterligare dimension när ljus och årstid påverkar de skuggor som skapas. Målet har varit att skapa en byggnad där flera målgrupper känner sig delaktiga även om de inte deltar aktivt i den aktivitet som sker. Det har möjliggjorts genom en öppning i bjälklaget som förbinder Folkets hus med ridhallen. Genom hållbara val, såväl materialmässigt som socialt, hålls landsbygden levande och kan nyttjas av flera generationer. / North of Järna at the existing horse farm Bergtorp were conditions for a new type of building which combines several activities. The importance of the horses at the chosen spot was permeated in the People's house through a riding hall with diversity and flexibility for a sustainable social life in the rural.  The significance and history of the barn in the agricultural town of Järna is the main inspiration for my People's house. The long structure with a saddle roof resembles a barn in shape and form, however design and interior creates a new interpretation where a contemporary meeting place for several target groups is the main focus. The building consists of an outer and an inner shell that together creates an additional dimension when light and season affects the shadows created. The goal has been to create a building where several target groups feels involved even if they don't actively participate in the activity that takes place. It has been made possible through an opening in the floor which connects the People's house with the riding hall. Through sustainable choices, both materially and socially, the countryside is kept alive and can be used by several generations.

Dirigenten och komponisten Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990) var en av sin tids ledande kulturella celebriteter i Amerika. Bernsteins berömmelse vilade på hans mångsidighet inom skilda artistiska områden. Särskild uppmärksamhet fick dock hans banbrytande verksamhet som musikfolkbildare i tv. En allmän uppfattning är att Bernsteins personliga karisma och affinitet för tv-mediet var anledningen till programmens succé. Denna undersökning har istället undersökt de pedagogiska metoder som han tillämpade i sin undervisning. För detta ändamål har den första Young People's Concert från 1958, ”What does music mean?”, valts ut. Undersökningen har genomförts med hjälp av observation av film och analys av engelsk texttranskription. Genom att använda ett kulturpsykologiskt perspektiv, har återkommande drag kunnat konceptualiseras och extraheras i teman och helhetsintryck. Resultatet visade bl.a. att Bernstein behärskade en varierad uppsättning av presentationsmetoder, språkliga stilar och musikaliska genrer som var strategiskt tillvaratagna i programmet. Bernsteins metod for att besvara den initialt ställda frågan var att undersöka flera olika föreställningar om musikens mening och värdera deras relevans erfarenhetsmässigt, tillsammans med barnen. Han ansåg sig därför fortsatt kunna hävda att musikens mening låg i de emotioner som den kunde framkalla. / The conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990) was one of the leading luminaries of contemporary American culture. His fame rested on his diversity in different artistic areas. Special attention, however, was made to his groundbreaking work as music educator on television. There is a common perception that the success of those programs was due to his charisma and affinity for the television medium. This thesis, on the other hand, has set about to investigate the pedagogical methods Bernstein employed in his teaching. For that purpose his first Young People's Concerts “What does music mean?”, from 1958, was chosen. The research has been done by observing the program on film with additional analysis of the text transcripts. By use of the perspective of cultural psychology certain recurrent traits could be conceptualized and extracted into themes and overall impressions. The results showed that Bernstein was in command of various sets of presentation methods, types of languages and musical genres. Bernstein's method of answering the initially asked question was to investigate different conceptions of the meaning of music and assess their relevance experientially with the children. He therefore was able to maintain that the meaning of music was the emotions it could induce.

This diploma thesis is focused on possibillities of using the people's habits in music activities in nursery schools and their influence the development of music abilities. It brings the outline of the religious holidays in the course of the year. The thesis explores the use of people's habits in musical activities in kindegartens and the suggestions of the possible solutions how to apply people's habits in musical activities have been outlined based on this research.
