Vad kan jag förvänta mig? : En kvalitativ studie om ensamkommande unga vuxnas upplevelse av socialtjänstens stöd efter att de beviljats permanent uppehållstillstånd / What can I expect? : A study on unaccompanied young adults' experience of social service support after being granted permanent residency

Sharma, Isabel, Zingmark, Nadja January 2016 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to explore unaccompanied refugee children / young people’s experiences of support from social services in the near term after the decision on permanent residence. Previous research has focused mainly on other aspects of integration. The theoretical approach was based on systems theory and Antonovsky’s theory of SOC (sense of coherence). Four young people were interviewed. The design was qualitative with an inductive approach. The results of the interviews were divided into four themes: experienced support, expected support, participation and required support. A recurring theme in the interviews was that respondents had difficulty understanding the social services role and thus know what support they could expect. They also expressed a need for greater participation in the context of social services different decisions.

The impact of legal status on national identity formation: A case study of former Mozambican refugees living in Bushbuckridge, South Africa

Ng'andu, Brian Mutale 16 May 2008 (has links)
Abstract This research report examines the relationship between legal status and national identity formation. It is based on a qualitative research of former refugees from Mozambique who have lived and settled in the Northern Province of South Africa now called Limpopo province in the border areas with Mozambique for over twenty years. The report compares the narratives of former Mozambican refugees in South Africa who have acquired permanent residence and citizenship with those that are undocumented. The distinction between undocumented and documented former refugees allows me to look at the role of access to services in identity formation, since most government services in South Africa, as elsewhere, are not accessible without legal documentation. Since most services are, however, accessible for both permanent residents and citizens, the distinction between these two statuses allow me to explore whether there is a more symbolic meaning attached to citizenship. Drawing from citizenship theory, variations in the attachment to South Africa or Mozambique that emerged in the research data are analysed in terms of the refugees’ experience of social inclusion or social exclusion norms. The benefits of social inclusion and how it shapes positive attitudes towards attaching to South Africa is discussed.

In chronic exile: A critique of South Africa's legal regime for refugees in protracted refugee situations

Khan, Fatima 15 May 2020 (has links)
The major thrust of refugee protection worldwide is directed towards providing assistance to refugees in emergency situations. In South Africa, a large number of refugees have moved beyond this initial emergency phase such that the extended nature of their refugee status has left them in a state of continuous vulnerability. Their prolonged exile has led to violations of various rights recognised by international law and South Africa’s own constitutional and refugee law. Faced with restricted access to rights, refugees in South Africa live in poverty, are frustrated, and do not realise their full potential, to say nothing about the overt and brutal attacks they constantly face as victims of xenophobia. Their continued status as refugees deprives them of opportunities and subjects them to constant fear of harassment and exploitation. Even though neither the UNHCR nor the South African government has classified refugees living in South Africa as being in a protracted situation, many refugees have been in South Africa for five years or longer, with no durable solution in sight. This thesis highlights the plight of refugees in protracted refugee situation in South Africa and recommends suitable solutions to the problems this situation raises.

Měření statistické závislosti vybraných parametrů cizinců v Jihočeském kraji v letech 2000 - 2016 / Measurement of statistical dependence selected parameters of foreigners in South Bohemian Region in years 2000 - 2016

SAMKOVÁ, Jaroslava January 2018 (has links)
This Master´s thesis examines structural links on the number of foreigner nationals legally staying in the territory of South Bohemia between 2000 and 2016. The following objectives have been defined: Objective 1: To acquire a comprehensive overview of the number of foreigners with long-term or permanent residence living in the territory of South Bohemia between 2000 and 2016 and to demonstrate the current trends Objective 2: To demonstrate the link between the annual approved long-term or permanent residence in the territory of South Bohemia between 2000 and 2016 Objective 3: To perform a comparison of the results achieved with the European trends Due to the results achieved by the applied quantitative research, the objectives of the thesis are considered to have been met. The theoretical part of the thesis covered the strategy of the migration policy of the Czech Republic. This part defines a concept of migration, in conjunction with the legislative aspect of the given case, the concept of a foreign national and categories of residential permits, as long-term and permanent residence, depending on their duration, including an analysis of different types of long-term and permanent residence. Initially, the purpose of the practical part consisted in the collection of statistical data necessary for the examination of a dependence in the form of the most important statistical indicators for the specified years, i.e. between 2000 and 2016. The tables and charts necessary for the regression analysis of long-term and permanent residence, and for the correlative research of a dependence between long-term and permanent residence needed to evaluate the objectives of this research, were created based on acquired data files. The aim of this Master´s thesis was to evaluate, confirm or refute the following hypotheses: H1 Hypothesis: The annual numbers of foreigner nationals with permanent residence can be expressed by a linear regression model, which shows an increasing trend. H2 Hypothesis: The annual numbers of foreigner nationals with long-term residence can be expressed by a linear regression model, which shows an increasing trend. H3 Hypothesis: The annual numbers of foreigner nationals with permanent and long-term residence positively correlate. The H1 hypothesis was verified by a linear regression model for approved permanent residence. The H2 hypothesis was verified for the first interval (the first 7 years with a rising linear regression) and partly for the second interval (the remaining years until 2016 with a decreasing linear regression). In general, the adoption of the H2 hypothesis should be assumed distantly (the economic crisis intervention, the role of the 5-year period). The H3 hypothesis is on the verge of rejection - the consequences of the economic crisis and the 5-year period reveal either a very weak positive correlation between permanent and long-term residence or an uncorrelated form. The findings provided in the Master´s thesis generate a number of other topics for follow-up research (a link to economic cycles, connection to the parameters of asylum procedures).

Imigrační politika Evropské Unie: legální postavení rezidentů třetích zemí / Immigration Policy of the European Union: Legal Status of Third-Country Residents

Krivenkaya, Yana January 2016 (has links)
This master thesis deals with the issue of development of the EU immigration policy and expansion of the rights of third-country nationals who have been legally residing in the territory of the Union throughout this development. The aim of this thesis is to outline the crucial milestones in the form of primary and secondary legislation that led to the broadening of the scope of rights of third-country nationals in the Union, while examining their legal status in the Union in general and in the Member States in particular. The first part of this master thesis introduces the historical background, outlines the development in context of the European Union and provides the categorisation of legal third-country nationals residing in the territory of the EU, whereas the second part of the thesis deals with transposition of European legislation into national legislation of the selected Member States - Germany and the Czech Republic - while drawing a line of compliance and emphasising local requirements that were introduced in addition to (but not exceeding the scope of limitation provided by) EU legislation. In order to be able to determine the quality and ease of fit between the EU and the receiving Member States the descriptive content analysis is employed. In the second part of this thesis it is case...

Integrace Vietnamců v České republice / Integration of the Vietnamese in the Czech Republic

Kučera, Petr January 2014 (has links)
KUČERA, Petr. Integration of the Vietnamese in the Czech Republic. Prague, 2014. Dissertation. Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Arts, Institute of Czech Language and Theory of Communication. This thesis deals with the integration of the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic which has its specifics and significantly differs from the integration of other foreigners living in the Czech Republic. The characteristics of the Vietnamese community are for example the high percentage of those who live here on the permanent residence permit, then very low unemployment and at last the majority of the community is doing their own business on the trade licence. The other important part is the issue of the acquisition of knowledge of the Czech language. The theoretical part of the thesis firstly defines the number of Vietnamese living in the Czech Republic, historical development of this community and their characteristics. Then the thesis deals with the term of integration; this term is properly defined and the particular dimensions of integration are described as well. The end of the theoretical part describes the particular types of residences, which foreigners can obtain. The empirical part of this thesis attempts to answer the question concerning the integration of Vietnamese living in the...

Fritidshusets framtid : Fritidshusets karaktär och utformning / The future of vacation house : The nature and form of vacation hous

Ottosson, Patrik, Seyedi, Adrian January 2020 (has links)
Purpose: Vacation house,a part of Sweden ́s history that decreases annually, mainly because existing vacation houses are being extended and permanented and few new ones are being built. One reason why many vacation houses are permanented is that the detailed development plan for the area is insufficient or missing to maintain the area as a vacation house area. In addition to the detailed development plan there is other legislation that is followed at building permits. For vacations houses there is no regulation in the legislation which causes difficulties for building permit management for individuals and authorities. The aim of the survey is to gather material with the aim to establish a definition of vacation houses into the legislation. Method: The survey is conducted as a qualitative study with semi-structured interviews with nearby municipalities building permit departments, equal in size as Jönköping's municipality and with smaller municipalities. The material from the semi-structured interviews was compared and strengthened with document analysis from previous research. The document analysis has reviewed previous researches, studies, judiciary, books and detailed development plans. Findings: The result shows that a definition of vacation houses should be legislated in Plan- och bygglagen and can be applied by Boverket’s building regulations with a clearer explanation of vacation houses. To give municipalities common ground to emanate from to preserve the nature of vacations house areas. How the vacations house areas should be designed and how their design can be preserved is most suitable in the detail development plan. It is in the detail development plan the area of a vacation home can be limited. If the area of the vacation homes is limited, the survey show that it will result in that fewer vacation homes are permanentized as the conveniences which permanent homes require will not fit. Implications: The results of the survey can be used to give municipalities an understanding of how building permits of vacation houses ́ are currently handled by other municipalities. The study contributes with improvement proposals for detailed development plan in the municipality of Jönköping. The conclusion of the result is that a more comprehensive study should be conducted to include municipalities throughout Sweden to ultimately lead to a joint definition for vacation houses.Limitations: The result is based on interviews with six municipalities and document analysis. A more comprehensive survey can interview more municipalities throughout Sweden to obtain a more generalized result, as well as to include authorities such as county administrative boards and Boverket. In a more comprehensive survey, more methods can be used as observations for better understanding of building permit handling of vacation homes and surveys to be able to reach out to all municipalities in Sweden.
