The significance of social context and risk perception in the covid-19 pandemic : A qualitative study with students, seniors, food store workers and care workers

Källbäcker, Jonathan January 2021 (has links)
The aim of this report was to examine individuals from different groups to see how their experiences, beliefs and everyday life has been during the Covid-19 pandemic. Thereafter the aim was to evaluate the results with the help of behavioral and risk theories of relevance to the pandemic in combination with mental models. The idea with the connection between the individual experiences and these theories was to come to an understanding about which aspects affect the spread of the virus. The study was based on the following research questions: Is there a difference between groups how they have adapted to the pandemic? If people go against recommendations and restrictions, how do they motivate that? In what way do people feel they have made a change during the pandemic? Can social aspects and perceived risk create an understanding of which factors affect the spreading of the virus? The data was collected via semi structured interviews. The analysis was made with an interpretative phenomenological analysis. Three overarching themes were identified, how the participants act, how they reason, and how they have changed. The conclusion made from the study was that there were some differences between groups how they have adapted to the pandemic and that the motivations behind the activities which were against recommendations and restrictions were largely based on social context, perceived risk and activities the participants were doing before the pandemic. The participants also felt they had made changes to their lives. Social contact was shown to be important to feel a sense of belonging, a feeling of contributing and to get different input. Finally, the conclusion was drawn that social context and perceived risk should be considered to understand the spreading of the virus and thereby the pandemic.

Upplevelser av gåvor i psykoterapi : En kvalitativ intervjustudie med fem psykologiska behandlare / Experiences of gifts in psychotherapy : A qualitative interview study with fem psychological therapists

Marklund Lyles, Erika January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate how psychological therapists experience receiving gifts from their patients. Five respondents participated in the study and data was collected using a qualitative method consisting of semi-structured interviews. The analysis was conducted by means of an interpretive phenomenological analysis which resulted in two main themes describing how the respondents experienced gifts in the therapy room: reciprocity and dilemma. Reciprocity in the relationship with the patient, and dilemmas to cope with in relation to the patient as well as colleagues, guidelines and laws.

Urban dwellers experiences regarding loss of natural environments due to rapid urbanization

Montanye, Erica 01 January 2017 (has links)
Little is known about how residents of rapidly growing cities are impacted by the loss of natural environments. Large cities are expanding at an exponential rate, reducing the presence of, and access to, natural environments for urban dwellers. Many benefits to human health regarding the presence of natural environments near where people live and work are known, but impacts of the loss of natural environments for urban dwellers are unknown. The purpose of this qualitative investigation was to understand residents' experiences regarding the loss of natural environments and related impacts. Attention restoration theory and place attachment were the theoretical lenses used to examine this problem. Data were collected via in-depth interviews from a purposive sample of 20 San Antonio residents. Using interpretative phenomenological analysis procedures, 7 themes emerged: (a) environment (b) health (c) safety (d) finance (e) community and culture (e) factors related to deprivation of nature, and (f) recommendations for improvements. Residents expressed concerns for their health, mental health, the environment, wildlife, byproducts of urbanization, social well-being, personal safety, and finances. Other possible key factors related to the process of deprivation of nature included experiencing a loss of freedom, associated with emotional impacts similar to sadness. Residents of San Antonio, city planners, and policy makers could benefit from understanding these impacts on residents. Data from this study may contribute to possible implications for social change and new knowledge and insights in the areas of health, mental health, social responsibility, urban planning, land conservation, and environmental psychology.

Lived experiences of older mothers of adults with intellectual disabilities

Merrill, Susan Cook 01 November 2010 (has links)
November 2010. "Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Occupational Therapy Department, College of Allied Health and Nursing, Nova Southeastern University." This study explored the lived experiences of older mothers who continue to be the primary care providers for their adult children who have intellectual disabilities. This research study used the Person-Occupation-Environment model (Law et al., 1996) from occupational therapy and occupational science as the orienting framework. The broad question this study sought to answer was: What are the lived experiences of perpetual mothers who live with their adult child with intellectual disabilities? Other related questions were: How have mothers created and adapted daily routines and occupations for themselves and their children? What meaning and purpose evolves for perpetual mothers from their lifelong caregiver role? How do they describe this sense of meaning and purpose? The grounding of this study within occupational therapy and occupational science combined with the research questions led to implementation of a phenomenological research approach for this research. Specifically, the structure inherent in Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (Smith, Larkin, & Flowers, 2009) was adopted as the guide to methodology. Participants were identified using purposive and snowball sampling and were interviewed using Seidman's (2006) three-interview structure. The five women who participated in this study ranged from 68 to 83 years old. The themes that emerged represent structures that articulate the core of their lived experiences as primary caregiving mothers of adults who have intellectual disabilities. The essential structures or themes of these women's lived experiences are mothers' actions to structure daily life for their sons, mothers' routines--engaged lives, mothers' expertise, and mothers' reflections on mothering a son with intellectual disabilities. The results of this study contribute a focus on maternal experiences to the body of literature about, and practice with, adults who have intellectual disabilities and their families. In addition, this study contributes to the body of literature about mothering occupations found in occupational therapy and occupational science. This dissertation discussed implications for occupational therapy practice and research.

Samcová, Magdalena January 2022 (has links)
69 Abstract This diploma thesis deals with manifestations of a borderline type of emotionally unstable personality disorder and its influence on family members of people with this type of disease. The aim of this thesis was to present the experience of living with a person with BPD. Qualitative research, using the semi-structured type of interview, was conducted with three respondents, one man and two women. The data was evaluated using interpretative phenomenological analysis. The results show the negative effects of contact with the individual with the BPD and the psychological burden is also evident. The thesis could be beneficial for social and health workers who come into contact with people with the BPD and their loved ones within their practice. At the end of the thesis step are mentioned through which each of us can contribute to the improvement of the situation.

Förskollärares föreställningar kring kommunikationsstrategier i förskolan - ur ett inkluderingsperspektiv / Preschool teacher’s ideas about communication strategies in preschool - from an inclusion perspective

Lundberg, Nathalie, Gustavsson, Jenny January 2022 (has links)
The aim for this study is to contribute with knowledge about preschool teachers' ideas about their communication strategies, from an inclusion perspective. To collect information, nine interviews were made with practicing preschool teachers in Sweden. The study is based on empirical data and with a methodological approach. By using interpretative phenomenological analysis as a tool to analyze the collected data, three categories, or also called clusters, on the overall theme communication strategies were found including verbal communication, non-verbal communication and age and specific communication skills. The results show that preschool teachers use different communication strategies to a large extent to include the children. However, it appears to a very small extent how preschool teachers use different communication strategies to offer multilingual children their native language. The preschool teachers mainly express the importance of the children learning the Swedish language, which is also the main communication strategy for the older children in preschool.
