Tillverkningsprocess för en modulär 3D-printad vattenfarkost / Manufacturing process for a modular 3D-printed unmanned surface vehicle

Angbratt, Gustav, Andersson, Kalle January 2024 (has links)
This project is in collaboration with Linnaeus University and Combitech AB, and part of the research arena WARA-PS, focuses on enhancing autonomous vehicles and their societal integration. By incorporating advanced autonomous systems, sensors, and communication tools across land, air, and sea, the aim is to reduce human intervention in hazardous environments. Current watercrafts are technically equipped but suffer from low availability and high manufacturing costs. The project proposes a modular and adaptable design, allowing 3D-printing of watercraft parts to customize for specific needs. The goal is to develop a 3D-printed watercraft applicable in research, rescue missions, and societal uses. The resulting nearly full-scale watercraft features a functioning drivetrain and detailed manufacturing documentation, highlighting waterproofing and customizable technical components. Extensive testing ensured its functionality and performance under various conditions.

Contemporary South African printmaking : a study of the artform in relation to socio-economic conditions, with special reference to the Caversham Press

Conidaris, Amanda Jane 12 1900 (has links)
Date in university's graduation list: April 2003. / Thesis (MA (VA))--Stellenbosch University, 2002. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The body of the thesis explores contemporary South African printmaking by focusing on The Caversham Press, established in 1985. Caversham's success encouraged the opening of four other studios, which formed the core of professional printmaking in South Africa up to 2000. Positioning Caversham in a broader arena, the politicised nature of printmaking in South Africa prior to 1985 is discussed and six projects produced at the Press between 1985 and 2000 are examined to situate the Press within the South African socio-economic and cultural context. Finally, the interaction between prints from Caversham Press projects and the art market in Johannesburg is described and analysed to ascertain the extent to which these six projects were products of their time and place in South African art history. In Appendices IV and V, the candidate's own printmaking work, which examines male midlife depression and its impact on the marital relationship, is discussed.

A study of the Arundel Society 1848-1897

Ledger, Tanya January 1978 (has links)
This thesis gives, for the first time, a clear exposition of the activities of the Arundel Society (1848-1897). Founded to 'collect diligently and with discrimination the highest and best examples of Art and to bring them before hundreds of English minds' the presence of Aubrey Bezzi, Lord Lindsay, Edmund Oldfield, Samuel Rogers and John Ruskin on the Society's first council meant that the initial publication of engravings after two early Italian artists, Fra Angelico and Giotto, was unsurprising. After 1856, under the guidance of Henry Layard, the archaeologist and politician, the Society became even more firmly committed to copying and publishing frescoes of the early Renaissance. The council's aim in recording and publishing these endangered works of art was to educate the taste of the public and inspire artists to embark on programmes of mural decoration. The water-colours executed for the Society are discussed with particular reference to the reactions of the council, and of members and the press to the problem of their verisimilitude. About two-thirds of these copies were published as chromolithographs and the gains and liabilities of this initially very popular method of reproduction are examined. Other methods employed by the Society to publish fac-similies of classical and medieval ivories and reduced copies of the Elgin marbles are also discussed with general reference to Victorian attitudes towards reproductions. The penultimate chapter attempts to relate the prints and monographs published by the Society to the art historical scholarship of the period. It is shown that the council's publication of decorative quattrocento, provincial cinquecento and early Flemish and German artists was influenced by Henry Layard's preferences. His monographs for the Society are discussed and compared with the more scholarly, if diverse, contributions made by, among others, G. W. Kitchin, John Ruskin, George Scharf and Ralph Wornum. In the final chapter it is argued that the Society's loyalty to the tastes of the mid-century and to the process of chromolithography led to its dissolution.

English Romantic theatre during the Peninsular War

Valladares, Susan January 2010 (has links)
Between 1808 and 1814 England was committed to an expensive and bloody campaign against the French invasion of the Iberian Peninsula. The Peninsular War, as it came to be known, was initially celebrated as a war of national independence that attracted widespread support. Soon after, it was characterised by political scandal and public controversy. Literary scholars have devoted much attention to the political, social and cultural effects of the French Revolution, but have written surprisingly little about the later years of the campaign against Napoleonic France. The principle objective of this thesis is to offer the first in-depth study of English theatre during the Peninsular War. It considers the most popular plays in performance, and asks what their staging, publication, and reception history reveal about a nation’s literary tastes and its political self-awareness. Sheridan’s Pizarro, a play about the Spanish conquest of Peru, was one of the most successful plays on the Romantic stage. A close analysis of this play considers its popularity between 1799 and 1815, and what it suggests about the flexibility of the contemporary repertoire system. Audiences’ ability to ascribe topical inflections to old plays helps explain the demand for Shakespeare and the bard’s political import to wartime audiences. This thesis explores the London patent stages and popular minor theatres, where programmes were restricted to song, dance, and spectacle. It also offers a case study of provincial theatre in Bristol, underscoring the significant limitations in assumptions that the metropolitan stage was representative of national trends. Archival research on the London and Bristol stages has been crucial to this study, which is based on an examination of playbills, memoranda, letters, playtexts, and prints. The newsprint and cartoons discussed offer an important political and historical framework, suggestive of the cultural expectations likely to have influenced contemporary playgoers.

As imagens de Jr: seus regimes estéticos e políticos

No. of bitstreams: 1 Rogério Murback Caielli.pdf: 1880774 bytes, checksum: 4f8f30139f635f486eb60fd9d904f198 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2017-12-07 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / Interested in the relations between cities, the citizen and the arts, this project turns to the work of the French multi-media urban artist JR. The research is guided by the hypothesis that his production can be inserted in the so-called rebel culture, emphasizing the utopian content in its production, having the assumption to use art as an instrument of intervention and social revolution. The corpus of the research comprises the projects of JR that, since 2005, began to have international scope, such as Women are Heroes (2008 - 2010), Rio de Janeiro and Wrinkles of the City (2008-), Cuba . The artist transits among photography, video, dance, scenography, music and, in the limit, digital media, having a personal website as the final support of his interventions. Thus, in consonance with the extremely hybrid nature of the object and the research hypothesis, the communicational ambience and the intersemiotic relations among the mediatic discourses, involved in creative processes, are equally considered. The state of the art involves studies focused on the historical vanguards, such as Le Siècle Rebelle - Dictionaire de la Contestation au XX Siècle de Emmanuel de Waresquiel. The main theoretical references refer to the theories of the image, as formulated by Rancière in O Destino das Imagens and, alternatively, the Hubermasian theory, with emphasis on the reading model proposed in Diante da Imagem. Methodologically, the research is bibliographical and documentary. We believe that its relevance lies in unveiling an internationally renowned artist, still unkown among us and – above all - pointing out an interesting form of convergence between art and social communication / Interessado nas relações entre as cidades, o cidadão e as artes, este projeto volta-se para a obra do artista urbano multimidiático francês JR. Metodologicamente, a pesquisa é bibliográfica e documental. Acreditamos que sua relevância está em desvendar um artista em trânsito dentro do universo da arte e de renome internacional, além de assinalar uma interessante forma de convergência entre a arte e a comunicação

Giovanni Battista Cavalieri's Ecclesiae militantis triumphi : Jesuits, martyrs, print, and the counter-reformation

Tsoumis, Karine January 2005 (has links)
Five hundred years of Christian martyrdom are represented in the Ecclesiae militantis triumphi (1583). Engraved by Giovanni Battista Cavalieri, the series that was bound into a book reproduces a fresco cycle in the church of San Stefano Rotondo in Rome. While the church belonged to the Jesuit German-Hungarian College, the book accompanied priests in their proselytizing mission in Northern Europe. This thesis will look at the function of the book in relation to various audiences, in different viewing contexts. Analyzed primarily in relation to the intended Jesuit audience as an object of devotion, the book will also be inserted within the Early Christian revival promoted by Gregory XIII (1572-1585). Finally, it will be looked at in relation to an audience composed of individuals interested in factual knowledge about Early Christian history and in the martyr as a historical figure. A general endeavor of the thesis is to situate the Ecclesiae militantis triumphi in relation to late sixteen-century representations of martyrdom, both Catholic and Protestant, as well as in relation to other contemporary Roman printed works.
