Carvalho, Karina Aparecida Pinto Silva 24 February 2005 (has links)
Orientador: Marcia Maria Strazzacappa Hernandez / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Educação / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-04T06:59:57Z (GMT). The teacher-student relationship and its affects over children, young people and adults development, has been the subject of several studies in educational area. In the area of dance education, c1assical ballet education specificity, this theme has been little discussed. The subject of this research is investigating if the teacher-student relationship in barbet education has any importance in stimulating the students' interest or causing them to give up. We've started on the premise that since ballet, among other dance techniques taught in free schools (academies, conservatories), continues to be the more widely taught, and that there is real importance in the way it is taught: it can have an influence on the student's concept of dancing. Ballet is a rigid and systematic technique, which imposes a pre-established physical standard and, perhaps, it could be the reason that we usably see an austere teacher posture in relation with his/her students, here illustrated by the image of stick in hand. We believe that a c1oser teacher-student relationship in which the teacher is concerned with each individual can ready enrich dance education / Mestrado / Educação, Conhecimento, Linguagem e Arte / Mestre em Educação

Elf, Emilia January 2017 (has links)
This field research study has investigated how two mathematics teachers in grades 4-6 work with goal processes and working methods in mathematics teaching in relation to students with mathematical cases and how the teachers' approaches to these aspects as research affect the student group's knowledge development. Data consists of research-based sources of text with a particular focus on mathematical talent and the didactic perspective and empirical evidence from interviews and qualitative observations. Examinations of Swedish mathematics education show that students with a mathematical minority are to a small extent offered sufficient incentives to develop special or inherent talents and abilities in Swedish mathematics education. Research studies also show that the Swedish school generally places low demands on student performance and that pupils are not involved in goal processes and teaching planning, which is considered negative for the student group's study motivation and knowledge development. Nonetheless, research based surveys indicate that mathematics teaching in Swedish schools is usually instructed by the teaching staff, which in turn means that work methods and target processes are controlled by the learning tool in order to individually tailor them to students. Based on collected empirical studies, this study partially confirms what the reviews express, but data also shows that the two studied teachers make individual adjustments and participate in making students work methods and goal processes in mathematics teaching.

Parental Choice in South African High Schools: An urban Cape Town Case Study

Du Toit, Sedik January 2008 (has links)
Philosophiae Doctor - PhD / This study examines how families judge and choose high schools. The review of literature relating to school choice provides a theoretical framework for the study. The review includes an international perspective including both developed countries such as United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, England and Wales, the Netherlands, Scotland and Sweden, and developing countries including India, Chile, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Mauritania, Senegal, Cote d'Ivoire and South Africa. The context within which school choice occurs in South Africa is examined. This context includes continued influence of Apartheid policies and current legislation including the South African Schools Act, The Admission Policy for Ordinary Schools Act and the Norms and Standards for Schools Funding. The literature review includes a critical analysis of the research, both Local and International, which addresses questions as to which factors are considered when judging and choosing schools, who makes the choice school, when the choice of school is made and which sources of information inform the choice of school. The empirical study examines the process of high school choice in urban Cape Town. The group areas Act and other Apartheid policies have created a situation where the respondents have a large number of high schools from which to chose. The selected area reflects diversity in Socio-Economic status, including both privately owned homes and council rental flats and houses. The study is limited to English medium or dual medium schools in the area. It includes both co-ed and single gender schools. / South Africa

Lauten, Cathrine January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this study is to increase our knowledge of teacher’s work with reading comprehension and reading strategies. In order to get an understanding of how the teachers work with reading comprehension, I have performed qualitative interviews with five practicing primary school teachers. The result shows that all the teachers consider that it is important to work with reading comprehension and reading strategies in primary school. The result also shows that the teachers are using different tools and different teaching methods to support and to facilitate the development of the pupils.
