Orientador: Ana Lúcia Guedes-Pinto / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Educação / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-28T02:38:02Z (GMT). O texto e as imagens se complementam e se inter-relacionam na compreensão da leitura / Abstract: The present work emphasizes the importance of literature adopted inside school in the education of readers since childhood. The present research was accomplished focused in the second year of Elementary Public School in Hortolândia, São Paulo. The study concentrates in events, which indicates how the reading practices, implemented by the teachers, can influence and guide children during reading times in the library and, more, encourages children to express opinions and impressions, about the text, in a spontaneous and direct way. Lajolo (2005), by approaching the need to develop a reading project in schools, asserts the importance of the reading practices carried by teachers, inside the classroom, "giving the children an example of oral reading". The author mentions also that the pleasure given by reading habits should be learnt by the children. Still according to Lajolo, the school and the teacher have the responsibility to transmit the pleasure found in the reading practices. Oliveira (1997), grounded in research Vygostsky, adds that the interaction between teacher and the students is crucial to the development of the children. The present study highlights the senses and the meanings that each reader obtains from the text through the perspectives of Certeau (1994) and Chartier (2011), also the author points out the impact that a book has in the children, and how the illustrations contribute to give sense and meaning to the reading. In the same way the reader catches the text and incorporates it to his cultural background, the illustrations and images help the reader to produce senses and meanings to it. Texts and images complete and combine each other in the process of understanding the reading / Mestrado / Ensino e Práticas Culturais / Mestra em Educação

Matters of materiality : researchers' use of print and digital formats for academic reading

Pihlstrøm, Siri Anne January 2020 (has links)
Searching, accessing, reading, and storing academic literature is increasingly done with the help of digital devices. This master’s thesis presents the results of a qualitative study on researchers’ academic reading practices, including the surrounding practices of searching for and storing the literature. The aim of this thesis is to gain a deeper understanding of researchers' use of academic literature on paper and on screens. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with ten researchers within four different research areas from a university college in Norway. The theoretical framework used to discuss the results is practice theory, with the concepts materiality and affordance. Key findings are that there is not always concordance between what the researchers say they prefer and what they do, as they have a pragmatic approach. The respondents see pros and cons of both formats, and they use both, depending on the situation and what their aim is. The surrounding practices are often done digitally, while deep reading is preferred to do on paper, by the majority. The first reading of a text, which is browsing through it to see whether the text is relevant or not, is always done on screen, while most of the respondents prefer to print out articles when they are to be read thoroughly, as they value the physical properties of paper. However, the respondents of this study are more positive to screen reading than what is seen in previous research, and many of them wish to improve their skills when it comes to e-reading.Keywords: Academic reading, researchers, digital reading, reading practices,

Between the Lines and in the Margins : Investigating the Attitudes of Library Staff at Swedish University Libraries Towards Marginalia in Library Books

Eliasson, Johanna January 2023 (has links)
This thesis explores the attitudes of Swedish university library staff towards marginalia in library books. The study aimed to investigate their experiences and opinions on the topic and any existing routines and guidelines regarding marginalia. Additionally, the study aimed to compare its findings to previous literature, which had made negative assumptions about how librarians feel about marginalia. Despite these assumptions, there has been no research to support them. The study used a mixed-method approach and collected data through a questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and qualitative content analysis. Based on the results, it was found that library staff regularly come across marginalia in library books. While most staff members hold a negative view towards marginalia, there are varying opinions that differ from what previous literature suggests. Those with negative attitudes believe that marginalia ruins the book as an object and hinders future readers from reading autonomously. However, there are also positive attitudes towards marginalia, with some believing that it is a sign of the book being used and that the reader has benefited in some way. Overall, those with both negative and positive views understand marginalia as a byproduct of reading and studying and as a study technique. Current routines and guidelines do not provide much information about handling books with marginalia, with only a few mentioning it. Some library staff believe that explicit guidelines are necessary, while others consider marginalia an inevitable part of libraries and therefore do not require guidelines.

Pourquoi lisent-ils ? : portraits de jeunes lecteurs de presse quotidienne nationale / Why do they read ? : portraits of young readers of the national daily press

Siry, Rébecca 30 May 2012 (has links)
In spite of all the efforts made by editors and public authorities to develop a pluralistic pressshaping up public opinion the readership of French dailies is aging. The decreasing circulation ofprinted newspapers, contemplating discontinuing them altogether is now an option, when onlineedition business models are still not stable. In this economic and political context, we have chosen not to take the usual perspective, which explains why youngsters are such a small part of the readership, and disregarding averagebehaviours, we have focused on young readers of Le Monde, Le Figaro or Libération either on or off line.Based on the reflexive dimension of comprehensive interviews’ qualitative methodology, ourcommunicational approach consisted in an analysis of reading practices centred on the relationshipbetween the respondents and their environment. The portraits technique and the interpretative analysisof the meaning that so-called competent readers gave to their own behaviours led us to identify thatreading the daily press, taken as a cultural activity, is deeply impacted by informational practices basedon interpersonal transmission. This questions the relevance of the various campaigns launched byeditors and public authorities to win over this specific readership.

[en] REFLECTIONS ON BOOK DESIGN AND READING: DESIGN CONSIDERING GUARANI HEALTH AGENT´S SCHOOLING LEVELS / [pt] LIVRO DE GUARANI FEITO POR JURUÁ: REFLEXÕES ACERCA DO DESIGN DO LIVRO E DA LEITURA A PARTIR DA ESCOLARIZAÇÃO DOS AGENTES DE SAÚDE GUARANI

RICARDO ARTUR PEREIRA CARVALHO 15 August 2007 (has links)
[pt] O design do livro é uma arte invisível? Depende do leitor. / [en] Is Book Design an invisible Art? How is the reader considered by book designers? These questions are the starting point for this study, which aims at investigating how can a designer contribute to the process of forming new writers and readers. Design is here approached as an interdisciplinary vocational area where hybrid projects occur; encompassing different voices and identities. We work on the assumption that book designers consider three kinds of clients - the author, reader and publisher - and that only author and publisher have traditionally interfered in the designer´s work more directly, while the reader exists more as a pre-conceived notion. By and large, the reader has been disregarded by book designers. We, then, try to propose what we call a Design for Reading or Reading Design. We consider theories that deal with reception and mediation in the reading process. We use theoretians like Roger Chartier and apply them to an Ethnographic exercise carried out at the Schooling Project with Guarani Health Agents in the Native Brazilian Villages of Itaxi, Araponga, Sapukai and Rio Pequeno in the Angra dos Reis and Paraty Regions. By observing the reading process by the Guarani Agents, we raise questions on how to encompass the specific profile of such a reader in the visual project, thereby recognizing the importance of the reader and mediation in the Reading Design. We also consider some aspects of literacy in order to contribute to new reading and writing. social processes.

Sonhando acordada: um estudo sobre as práticas de leitura da coleção de romances clássicos históricos / Daydreaming: a study about the clássicos históricos novel collection´s reading practices

Amparo, Patrícia Aparecida do 25 April 2012 (has links)
This dissertation, part of history and historiographys education studies, has as objective to understand the reading practices kept by female readers of sentimental novels, particularly, the Clássicos Históricos novel collection. Published in newsstand and intended to popular audience, that collection was created by Nova Cultural publishing house in 1993 and is about problematic loving meetings placed in United States or England along XIX century. From the hypothesis that this sentimental novels and the relation kept with them would play an important formative role to its readers, we aim to investigate three aspects of the collection´s reading practices: at first place, we observed Clássicos Históricos role and the relations kept with it for learning due to book deciphering, namely, everything that concerns about formation of the reader; at second place, we search verify its importance to initiation or readers access to literate culture; at last, face of representations of females, males, marriage and happiness templates we investigate the function of the collection to formation of readers loving and general feelings. To reach these objectives we use the oral source obtained by interviews done with 6 Clássicos Históricos collection readers and through them we could apprehend speeches about sentimental novels reading practices. Its also part of our sources the Clássicos Históricos collection itself, which analyses allow us to understand the representations made of the readers and the reading in which the publishing house and the female authors operate. Furthermore, to complement information obtained at interviews, we have collected too readers statements at Nova Culturals blog and at a relationship site. To analyze those data, we have used concepts as reading practices, appropriation, circulation (CHARTIER); tactics and strategies (CERTEAU); habitus and field (BOURDIEU); primary socialization (BERGAR & LUCKMANN). We could notice through the interviews that sentimental novels readings are transmitted from female older readers to youngest readers that, from that moment, assume those issues as preferential literary chooses. Because this movement the young female readers learn what literature is, how it should be reading and an specific way to circulate around literate culture based on the Clássicos Históricos collections ways of circulation.

Leitura e leitores: um perfil de alunos do ensino fundamental II em uma escola pública de Campinas -SP / Reading and readers: a profile of middle school students at a public school in Campinas São Paulo

Chucre, Mônica do Socorro de Jesus 20 February 2018 (has links)
This research aims to map, describe and analyze a profile of readers of basic education and reflecting on the aspects of the practice of literary reading and reading habits of the 8th and 9th grade students of the public and state school, located in the neighborhood of Sousas, district of the city of Campinas São Paulo. The thematic focus in literature, especially the literary one, in view of the practices of reading literary texts, indicated (or not) by the school. The work intends to understand the student\'s relationship with the books and the reading. In order to do so, it was necessary to recognize and describe the identity of these students, as readers, considering their practices of reading literary texts. The methodology was established in a research-action with a qualitative and descriptive approach. The data collection procedures were performed through questionnaires with open and closed questions, along the lines proposed by GIL (2008), and through the accomplishment of a focus group to obtain more accurate data such as statements that could indicate more subjective information regarding the reading act, in addition there is some interviews with the teachers for better understanding of their in-class practices related to literary works. The results obtained allowed to affirm that these students of the public school, in general, do not have mastery of the understanding of genres of the literary works and nor are able to develop a more in depth understanding of the senses of the literary readings. Once students perform the readings according to their personal possibilities and opportunities promoted by the school, the absence of a possible and legitimate time for reading within the school negatively impacts their reading ability, although a significant number of students show an interest in reading. The theoretical reference framework was based on the studies on reading and place of the reader in Michèle Petit (2013), Teresa Colomer (2007), Daniel Pennac (1993), Chartier (2011), Rezende (2013) and Dalvi.

Reformismo Ilustrado, censura e práticas de leitura: usos do livro na América Portuguesa / Enlightened Reformism, Censorship and Reading Practices: The Uses of Books in Portuguese America

Villalta, Luiz Carlos 13 August 1999 (has links)
This thesis proposes a research about the uses of books in Portuguese-America with reference to Portugal also. Although it concentrates in the years between 1750 and 1822, it goes back to the sixteenth Century to understand particular characteristics of the later period. Firstly, it presents a series of cultural references and some practices of the Portuguese censorship with readers during the period of the Enlightened Reformism. On one hand, there were the corporate theories of power from the Second Scholastic, the millennium beliefs and the anti-scientificism, and, on the other hand, the Enlightenment and the main characteristics of the Portuguese Enlightened Reformism, since the rule of marquis of Pombal until that of the Regent Prince D. João VI. Secondly, it focuses on the practices censorship and the Crown in relation to books - that is, the prescribed and prohibited use which evaluated the parameters that established censorship and their modifications under the Enlightened Reformism. Also it accompanies the controlling practices and the diffusion practices that affected the circulation and the possession of books and examines the concession of licenses for the reading of prohibited books. Finally, it incorporates the uses of books in the Portuguese-Brazilian world through, the analysis, lastly, of the distribution of the possession of books and the composition of libraries and the conceptions identified and formulated by the readers themselves. Concluding, the practices that accompanied the formulation of heretic proposals and the Inconfidência Mineira are examined and specifically the different influences of the Enlightenment and other cultural influences.

No. of bitstreams: 1 ERNANI TERRA.pdf: 1107383 bytes, checksum: 6aa2fd52eda4c8c57a2eb7c8566f4bab (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-05-09 / The work Leituras de professores: uma teoria da prática, by Ernani Terra, under orientation of Prof Dr Anna Maria Marques Cintra, presents the results of the research that has investigated reading habits of High-School Portuguese teachers in the São Paulo metropolitan area. The author s aims are to identify what the informants read in their spare time and whether these readings are of free choice. The research follows two hypotheses: a) teachers spare time readings are strongly related to their professional practice; b) Portuguese language teachers autonomy in deciding what they want to read in their spare time is not complete, since it is determined by institutional needs. The author has not found research on spare time reading by teachers in the libraries of three universities in the state of São Paulo. Nor has he found studies which analyze whether they share these readings with the students. This research might bring subsidies to guide the pedagogical action of teachers, especially with relation to reading. The work was based on bibliographical research and on critical review of literature, which served as a basis for the analysis and interpretation of quantitative and qualitative data. The analysis has been bases upon three independent pillars that are related to the general topic of the research: 1. Analysis if the characteristics of free time and leisure activities; 2. Reading profile in Brazil; 3. Analysis of teacher s practices in relation to reading. Our theoretical support is Theodor Adorno, Joffre Dumazedier and Frederic Munné for item 1; Laurence Helleweel, Marisa Lajolo, Regina Zilberman and Magda Soares for item 2; Pierre Bourdieu and Michel de Certeau for item 3. The study reveals our informants readings during the time they are freed from work and domestic chores are linked to their professional practice and to their professional development / Neste trabalho, denominado Leituras de professores: uma teoria da prática, Ernani Terra, sob orientação da Profa. Dra.
