Caracterização e alterações na estrutura anatômica da madeira do Eucalyptus grandis em três condições de desfibramento e efeito nas propriedades tecnológicas de painéis MDF / Characterization and anatomical structure alterations of Eucalyptus grandis wood in three refining conditions and effect in technological properties of MDF panels

Belini, Ugo Leandro 20 April 2007 (has links)
Currently is evidenced a great demand of growth in eucalypts MDF panels production in relation with pinus, commonly used in the industry. The present study had the objective to characterize the morphologic components of Eucalyptus grandis wood chips “in natura” submitted in three different refining conditions (time, pressure and energy), named intermediate, smaller and biggest intensity of refining (A, B and C, respectively). The technological characteristics of MDF panels from three refining conditions were analyzed according standard NBR 15316. During this development were collected for three refining conditions, in all the productive chain of the MDF panels: wood chips, wooden dissociated material and panels MDF in industrial and laboratorial scale. The wood chips structure were microscopically characterized; the dissociated wood cells suspended in water of 3 refining conditions were evaluated through its separation in sieves and each fraction of woody material was morphologically classified and microscopically described. The results showed that the wood chips collected in industry storage compartment were homogeneous in the 3 refining preconditions and not influenced the MDF panel's treatments. The softness refining condition induced the shives formation and maintenance of vessels, parenchyma and the longest fibers. The more drastic refining condition induced the fiber cell walls broking, with wood pulp presenting shortest fibers and lower vessels and parenchyma frequency. The coloration characteristics were observed, and the fiber pulp was darker as result of the high pressure, greater time and more refinement energy applied. The MDF panels elaborated by softness refining condition presented greater resistance to screw pull in contrast of panels confectioned with hardness refining condition showing lesser mechanical properties of perpendicular and superficial tensile strength and bigger values of swelling and absorption. The results showed the importance of the variable related production with the wood and pulp wood treatments in technological properties of eucalypts MDF panels.

p>In this work we studied a technique for detection of OHTC in water. It was discovered that complexes involving ruthenium, on determined pH values, react with the OHTC molecule and this is detectable by UV-VIS spectroscopy. The complexes fac-[RuCl2(S-dmso)3(O-dmso)] (complex 1), {[(DMSO)2H][trans-Ru(DMSO)2Cl4]} (complex 2), and cis-[RuCl2(bpy)2].2H2O (complex 3) were studied. The complex 1 present one position ( O - DMSO) which can be substituted by the OHTC. Additionally, the complex 2 present two ligands ( S- DMSO) trans between each other, and the complex 3 present two chloride ions for the same porpose of complex 1 respectively. It was determined that the complex 1 was able to react with OHTC even in presence of the salts present in sea water. Thereby, the reaction involving complex 1 and OHTC was monitored in function of the time, pH, temperature, and finally concentration of OHTC. On the other two complexes, the reaction was studied without variation of temperature and concentration of OHTC.

[en] SPATIAL PRICE OLIGOPOLY EQUILIBRIUM MODELS TO THE BRAZILIAN PETROLEUM REFINED PRODUCTS MARKET / [pt] MODELOS DE EQUILÍBRIO ESPACIAL DE PREÇOS PARA O MERCADO OLIGOPOLIZADO DE DERIVADOS DE PETRÓLEO BRASILEIRO

FABIANO MEZADRE POMPERMAYER 09 June 2003 (has links)
[en] The Brazilian petroleum refined products market is being opened to competition this year, leaving an environment of regulated prices to another one where the prices are defined by the supply demand interactions. Considering this new scenario, there is a concern about how high the prices will be, and about their impact on the consumers and on the local producers. This thesis proposes some mathematical models to predict prices, production, consumption, and import and export levels of petroleum-refined products in all the sub-regions of the Brazilian market. Instead of a competitive market, the supply of refined products is considered an oligopoly market, especially in the short term, given the already installed refining capacity and the high costs involved in building new refineries. These models are multi-products, and they consider an important characteristic of the production of refined products, the impossibility of producing only one refined product. Hence, constraints where the production of one refined product is related to the production of the others are considered. The first model considers a closed oligopoly market, with a fixed number of firms. This problem is formulated as a Nash equilibrium problem. A second model is presented generalizing the first one to consider the possibility of ceiling demand prices politically defined. The third model relaxes the assumption of a fixed number of firms in the first model, and considers the possibility of competition by new entrants. A fourth model is discussed, where it is assumed that there is a leader firm in the market, which can define its strategy before the other firms, similar to the economic problem of Stackelberg. All the models are formulated as variational inequalities problems, and the last model is also a bi-level programming problem. Solution algorithms for the three first models are proposed. Some analyses of the Brazilian petroleum refined- products market are presented.

Rational bioenergy utilisation in energy systems and impacts on CO2emissions

Wahlund, Bertil January 2003 (has links)
The increased concentration of greenhouse gases in theatmosphere, in particular CO2, is changing the Earth’s climate. Accordingto the Kyoto protocol, where the international community agreedon binding emission targets, developed countries are committedto reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. The increased use ofbiomass in energy systems is an important strategy to reduce CO2emissions. The purpose of this thesis has been toanalyse the opportunities for Sweden to further reduce CO2emissions in the energy system, by rationallyutilising woody biomass energy. The characteristics of currentcommercially operating biofuel-based CHP plants in Sweden aresurveyed and systematically presented. A consistent andtransparent comprehensive reference base for system comparisonsis given. Furthermore, the fuel effectiveness and contributionto CO2reduction is calculated. The governmentalsubsidies of the CHP plants’investment, expressed as costof specific CO2reduction, appears to be low. The competitiveness of biomass-fuelled energy production inrelation to fossil-based production with carbon capture isanalysed, showing that the biomass-fuelled systems provide acompetitive option, in terms of cost of electricity andefficiencies. The remaining Swedish woody biofuel potential ofat least 100 PJ/yr is principally available in regions with abiomass surplus. Transportation is therefore required to enableits utilisation in a further national and international market.Refining the biofuel feedstock to pellets, or even furtherrefining to motor fuels (DME, methanol or ethanol) or power, could facilitate this transport. Different options for fuelrefining are studied and compared. The entire fuel chain, fromfuel feedstock to end users, is considered and CO2emissions are quantified. Substituting fuelpellets for coal appears to be the most costeffectivealternative and shows the largest CO2reduction per energy unit biofuel. Motor fuelsappear more costly and give about half the CO2reduction. Transportation of the upgraded biofuelpellets is highly feasible from CO2emissions point of view and does not constitute ahindrance for further utilisation, i.e. the pellets can betransported over long distances efficiently with only limitedemissions of CO2. Bioenergy utilisation has additional features forenvironmental improvement, apart from the CO2aspect. Waste heat from biofuel-based CHP can becost-effectively used in conjunction with sewage treatment. Theincoming sewage water to the nitrification process can bepreheated with the waste heat, and thereby substantiallyenhance the nitrification and the reduction of ammoniumnitrogen during the winter season. <b>Keywords:</b>CO2reduction, energy system, biofuel, CHP, refining, fuel pellets, ethanol, methanol, DME, fuel substitution, sewagewater, nitrification.

Synthesis of High Purity Silicon from Rice Husks

Larbi, Kingsley Kweku 27 July 2010 (has links)
Impurity optimized silicon is needed for the advancement of terrestrial photovoltaic power generation. In this study the possibility of producing solar grade silicon from rice husks has been pursued. An integrated process flowsheet was developed and practiced that included initial leaching, reduction of Rice husk ash (RHA) and post-reduction purification of silicon. Metallothermic reduction of purified RHA with magnesium was investigated within the temperature range of 500-950 oC. The reduction product was purified by two stage acid leaching sequence. Analysis of the final silicon powder product by XRD and ICP-OES showed crystalline silicon with boron content to be less than 3ppm- corresponding to reduction by a factor greater than 10, whilst the phosphorus content was reduced by a factor of over 20 and reaching less than 73ppm. The effects of temperature, magnesium amount and leaching agents were optimized in this study. A one step test melting was also carried out to convert the silicon powder into silicon chunks.

An Experimental Study On Steam Distillation Of Heavy Oils During Thermal Recovery

Tavakkoli Osgouei, Yashar 01 March 2013 (has links) (PDF)
Thermal recovery methods are frequently used to enhance the production of heavy crude oils. Steam-based processes are the most economically popular and effective methods for heavy oil recovery for several decades. In general, there are various mechanisms over steam injection to enhance and have additional oil recovery. However, among these mechanisms, steam distillation plays pivotal role in the recovery of crude oil during thermal recovery process. In this study, an experimental investigation was carried out to investigate the role of various minerals present in both sandstone and carbonate formations as well as the effect of steam temperature on steam distillation process. Two different types of dead-heavy crude oils were tested in a batch autoclave reactor with 30 % water and the content of the reactor (crude oil, 10 % rock and mineral). The results were compared as the changes in the density, viscosity and chemical composition (SARA and TPH analyses) of heavy crude oil. Five different mineral types (bentonite, sepiolite, kaolinite, illite and zeolite) were added into the original crude oil and reservoir rocks to observe their effects on the rheological and compositional changes during steam distillation process. Analysis of the results of experiments with Camurlu and Bati Raman heavy crude oils in the presence of different minerals such as Bentonite, Zeolite, Illite, Sepiolite, and Kaolinite in both sandstone and limestone reservoir rocks indicate that steam distillation produces light end condensates which can be considered as solvent or condensate bank during steam flooding operation. It was also illustrated that minerals in reservoir formations perform the function of producing distilled light oil compounds, resulting in enhancement of heavy crude oils recovery in steam flooding. Measurements showed that the remaining oil after steam distillation has higher viscosity and density. On the other hand, the effect of steam distillation is more pronounced in limestone reservoirs compared to sandstone reservoirs for the given heavy crude oil and steam temperature. Among the five different minerals tested, kaolinite found to be the most effective mineral in terms of steam distillation.

Adsorption av Sb på zeolit / Sb adsorption by zeolite

Lundstedt, Evert January 2007 (has links)
The aim of this diploma work is to study the removal of antimony from glassworks process water using zeolites. The experimental part of the studies were carried out to find the quantity of antimony adsorbed by the zeolite. The studies included treated (for optimization: partly with NaNO3 and partly with NaCl) and untreated zeolite. The pore size is 0.4 nm. pH was measured and adjusted because it is important for the antimony adsorption. When the solutions were filtrated the content of antimony left was measured with atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The measurements showed an average uptake of antimony by the zeolite of 53 %.The preinvestigation indicates that with a very low pH (below 1) there is no antimony adsorption. It also indicates that with pH above 4 it does not matter if the zeolite are treated or not. In further investigations the zeolite should be treated with NaCl in a stirred tank, then be mixed in the process water (pH is set to 4) in a tank or basin and then be filtrated. The time to reach equilibrium and the influence of temperature should also be investigated.
