Modelling the implementation and acceptance of the Police National Database in UK police forces

Lambri, Tessa January 2014 (has links)
The Police National Database (PND) was launched in June 2011 as a direct recommendation from the Bichard Inquiry. Its main purpose is to provide a national platform to share police information and for the first time, the PND will provide a single view of data held in police intelligence, custody, crime, child and domestic abuse systems across the UK. The PND will not replace local police systems, but it will allow all forces to see and share information - that until now has only been available within individual force boundaries.

Viana, David Henrique de Moura 01 September 2011 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2015-04-16T15:23:20Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 arquivototal.pdf: 2257797 bytes, checksum: d4b9a895bb94870c08fed80687bfcaa6 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2011-09-01 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / It can be considered as an essential characteristic of human beings to search for information in order to reduce uncertainties and doubts. Accordingly, we developed this research for the Masters Program in Information Science at the Federal University of Paraíba, seeking to analyze Twitter as a repository of information sharing. As a corpus analytical, this research focuses on nine councilor s microblogging, relating speeches and actions of parliamentarians. The social networks grant, easy and quickly, that people get involved at internet (a site) sharing diverse information between them. Among the various social networks at internet, it is given emphasis to the personification phenomenon and consequent personal exhibitionism on the Internet: the blogs, specifically, the microblogs, which have similar blogs features, as individual posts, adding the dynamics and immediacy of the instant messenger, e.g. Twitter. Twitter has long for five years and is used for thousands of people in the most different ways: to answer the question-design guide (What are you doing?); to answer today s question-design guide (What is happening?); professionals to advertise; to spread news published in media like newspaper, radio, television etc. There are several types of information available on Twitter for every Twitter user registered. In this work, we carried out a categorization about information available for the councilors researched, taking into account that the process of dissemination/sharing of information consists of three distinct phases: production, availability and use of information. We conclude that the communication and storage of the information provided on Twitter could subsidize the political memory and its relation to the speech and practice.

Designing an efficient Collection process for Discarded furniture

Liao, Yin January 2017 (has links)
The furniture industry is a thriving industry in the past decades all over the world. The increase in production and sales of furniture products means that more raw materials are needed and more furniture waste is produced at the same time. Taking into account the unsolved environmental issues, it is necessary to make innovation changes to reduce the waste and overcome the continuously increasing resource consumption. Circular economy draws a wide attention under this situation. As an alternative to replace the traditional linear consumption model, it balances the economic development and environmental concern. Turning waste into a new resource is a profitable opportunity for the furniture industry. However, product recovery in this industry meets obstacles due to the character of the furniture. This study considers discarded bulky furniture products. It focuses on the first step of furniture waste recovery: the collection process. The aim of this research is improving the efficiency of a “many to one” collection process in a reverse logistics system and increasing the recovery level within the hierarchy of options for discarded furniture. By using the soft system methodology, this study explores the current discarded furniture collection situation within Europe and then analyzes each essential element of this collection system. After that, combining with the relevant circular economy theory and information gathered from a case furniture company, we design a new conceptual business process model for discarded furniture collection. In the newly designed model, the collection process is carried out by the individual transport option with sufficient capacity from customer’s home to the furniture store. The new model is based on a collaborative lifestyle information platform. By managing the real-time information, the platform aligns individuals’ transport resources with discarded furniture demand to reduce the transport cost of the collection process. This model aims for optimal use of the available individual resources to complement the transport process. Moreover, this information platform helps to collect information in the early stage to reduce the uncertainty of reverse logistics.

自反性與共享資訊的動力: 以Independent Media Center自主媒體網站為例 / Reflexivity and the motor of sharing information: The case of Independent Media Center

CHEN, CHIA-PEI Unknown Date (has links)
The motive of this dissertation is inspired by a network phenomenon of IMC in 1999, which occurred at the scene of anti-globalization in Seattle. Readers of IMC (Independent media center) website volunteered to post their own articles related to anti-globalization issues on line and urged to set up a local branch site for the possibility of non-mainstream information production though an autonomous communication environment. The wild spread of IMC local branch sites emerged and prompted not only through new technology but also the burst of information critique in the form of bottom-up reflected ideology. Therefore, the naissance of IMC is the motivation of this dissertation. To broaden the theoretical aspects for answering question, the perspectives of research question divided by three dimensions, including: Globalization, Reflexive Modernization and Network Space. According to literatures of globalization, the statement of anti-globalization of IMC is against information commercialization, meanwhile, the perception of information as products also led IMC to respond to it with the action of the spirit of sharing information. Refer to the theory of Reflexive Modernization, it doesn’t only explain how this perception shaped up (refer to the interpretation of Beck and Giddens) but also clarify that the responses as a creative acting was inspired by the transformation of information connotation in our daily life (refer to the interpretation of Scott Lash). In addition, IMC took place at the network space, comparing to Taiwan IMC and Hong Kong anti-globalization websites, we draw a conclusion of naissance of IMC to the fact of hackers’ spirit, which means they treat the information as gift and the open publishing system combined with Blog features operated by IMC as the presuppositions of sharing information. To sum up the three dimensions of analysis, we concluded that the possibility of critique of information caused by IMC was created by the dynamic operation of globalization and reflexive modernization, meanwhile, we finalized the redefinition of information based upon the network space. We also brought up the possible social impacts generated by IMC phenomenon and research limits of this dissertation.

Science and technology information in Thailand : policies, strategies and provision

Ruenwai, Narumol January 2006 (has links)
The aim of the research was to investigate the current state of scientific and technological (S&T) information service provision in Thailand with a focus on its role of supporting research and development. The ultimate goal of the research was to develop a service model(s) which could aid the modernisation of the S&T information service. The information policies and strategic management at national and institutional levels were examined together with present and future roles in service provision and barriers to S&T information development. The research framework was constructed on the basis of theoretical models of the provision and management of effective information services. The institutions which participated in this research included 46 academic and special libraries in Thailand, hereafter called S&T information centres, and two funding agencies. The data were collected using a variety of research tools, employing both quantitative and qualitative methods, namely, questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and focus groups. The questionnaires were distributed to five groups of respondents: executives, managers, librarians or staff, end-users, and executives or policy-makers of funding agencies. Two hundred and eighty-nine questionnaires were sent by post to 45 S&T information centres and two funding agencies whilst 703 questionnaires were also distributed to end-users. Interviews were performed with 55 executives and library managers. Three focus groups were organised on different topics, with a total of 36 participants. The major findings showed that national information policy in relation to S&T information was still relatively ineffective with roles and responsibilities of stakeholders not explicitly identified. In general, the results showed that institutional information policies exist but weak communication between executives, managers, and staff caused problems with implementation and interpretation. Most S&T centres were found to have strategic plans. The focus of these were on issues of integrated ICT infrastructure, acquisition of electronic resources, service improvement, communication with users and feedback, user education, cost effective use of resources, E-library transition and knowledge sharing. The development of resource sharing via computerised networks was considered to be paramount; progress to date was thought to be slow due to a lack of policies at national and institutional levels. Users' information literacy was still found to be an issue, particularly in respect of making effective use of electronic resources. The thesis provided recommendations for a national network for S&T information provision to be designed and managed by a hosting provider.

Comparative study on user's perception of privacy issues on Facebook : Young adults vs. adults in Sweden

Rodriguez, Juan Tomas, Obradovac, Irma January 2017 (has links)
Facebook is a social network that has more than 1.5 billion active members. With the term ‘active’ we mean users who sign in at least once every day on Facebook. Sharing personal information has become a popular activity within the development of all the social networks. Facebook, for instance, contains settings for privacy that allow the user to adjust how "far" the user wants to share his/her own personal information. The problem comes when this can lead to private issues and concerns. The aim of this research was to study the privacy issues perceptions of people within two different ranges of ages, under and over 35 years old. Firstly, we analysed how much people know about privacy on Facebook, and then we tried to understand if there are similarities or differences between those two groups. We thought it would be interesting to know the current state of this phenomena and there was no much research done in Sweden about it. The research was conducted using the mixed method because we wanted to get more global responses from a larger number of respondents in a survey and we wanted to get more detailed answers from an open questionnaire through interviews. We intended to know how is the general knowledge about privacy on Facebook among Swedes. The results showed that people who belonged to the adults group took slightly more care on their privacy than the young-adults group. Also, we discovered that, in general, people are more informed about the risks coming from privacy leaks than a few years ago.

Enhancing Interfunctional Coordination in B2B Companies: The Strategic Potential of Digital Tools : A qualitative study on how digitalization can be used as a strategic driver to enhance interfunctional coordination and improve customer orientation in B2B.

Krantz, Matilda January 2023 (has links)
In an ever-evolving digital landscape, the way we do business changes rapidly.  In this landscape, B2B companies are confronted with challenges that demand adaptation and reevaluation of their business models, such as exploring innovative approaches to resource utilization and streamlining workflows. The topic of interfunctional coordination is of utmost relevance today as it serves as a prerequisite for optimizing work processes, sustaining resources, and nurturing a customer focused collaboration across the entire organization. The primary objective of this study is to enhance our understanding of the practices and trends that certain B2B companies see around the go-to-market strategy. Furthermore, it seeks to examine the potential impact of interfunctional coordination on improving go-to-market strategies and fostering enhanced customer experiences. The study also explores the role of digital tools as strategic drivers for facilitating interfunctional coordination within these companies. By addressing these objectives, the research aims to provide valuable insights on go-to-market trends and on digital tools that can drive successful interfunctional coordination and enhance customer satisfaction. The study was done through a qualitative deductive approach, which involved initially exploring the researched theories, collecting empirical data through interviews and finally analyzing the results. The study shows that there is a correlation between interfunctional coordination and a successful go-to-market strategy. The study also presents which digital tools are best suited to facilitate cross-functional work within a complex B2B organization. The study shows that achieving interfunctional coordination within an organization requires a significant degree of commitment and a strong driving force towards a common vision. For the most part, the empirical evidence strengthens the theoretical discussion, but there are some deviations. The deviations could be due to the gap between academia and the marketing industry.

O bibliotecário e o compartilhamento de saberes e informação no contexto da Avaliação de Tecnologias em Saúde / The librarian and the sharing of knowledge and information in the context of Technology Assessment in Health

Gizele da Rocha Ribeiro 20 March 2010 (has links)
This research discusses the librarians participation in the formation of multidisciplinary groups of Health Technology Assessment (HTA), characterizing its performance in a new field that opens to librarians in research institutions. The main objective is based on the creation of a Digital Library (DL) with quality parameters of information related to HTA, from documents created by the service of bibliographic Library Network Fiocruz, showing the necessity of the librarian in the multidisciplinary group to HTA. The methodology was divided into three parts: data collection of the art of knowledge produced in Collective Health, where the Evaluation of Health Technologies, and Information Science is, exploratory research with a qualitative approach to data collection with the group of HTA researchers from several private and public institutions and a qualitative approach to data collection of the Library Network Fiocruz professionals and data analysis. It was noted that there is an active participation of the librarians in HTA activities, formulating database search strategies, reviewing search protocols, locating relevant publications, helping locating systematic reviews to the search groups. This preuposes creation of a DL sharing all the digital documents created by the libraries. This initiative aims to contribute to boosting the production of scientific and technological knowledge in the health and HTA.

The study also suggests an analytical model - based on qualitative research and documentary analysis – to define the study sample, investigate data, identify patterns, organise and codify a large amount of information within all reports searched. The analytical model represents a framework in which the result is a collection of practices being reported, functioning as a useful guide and practical reference for higher educational institutions – signatory or otherwise – when promoting or advancing transformational change in their business model. The framework could also be valuable for Graduate Schools – or even Primary Schools to High Schools – considering the urgency of the 2030 Agenda, especially its 4.7 target, referred to as 'An education for sustainable development and global citizenship'.
