This study is researching whether the forms of integration and socialization of migrants depend or not on the language in the use of linguistic variations and socio cultural aspects, referring to the sociolinguistic contribution to analyze how this integration takes place, observing the obstacle and prejudice notions. The general objective consists of analyzing the processes of social and linguistic integration based on the linguistic use and social interaction processes of the migrants. The corpus consists of narrative interviews, which proportion the argument through the data obtained. This way, emerge the differences and the assimilation of the language between the migrants and the local population. The research uses the analytical method which is analysis of the general concepts and information obtained from the interviews. The data shows that the integration difficulties occur not only because of language problems but also due to cultural and social problems. This study reveals that social interaction is realized through sociolinguistic sensibility among migrants and local inhabitants.

The research presented here has as object of study the interactions of nine groups on social network Facebook that, from March 2012 to July 2013, had in their title the word "women" and were administered by profiles that were declared women. The main objective of this research is to identify and analyze the themes and interacional dynamics of the nine groups studied. For this, the research has the following objectives: a) identify the themes developed in these groups in six months; b) map the comment networks in the observed period; c) identify the interactional dynamics of groups and interacional roles played during the same period; d) check whether changes in themes alter the interacional dynamics identified. Adopting as methodology the online ethnography, we observed these groups during sixteen months, using the following techniques for collecting data: participant observation and data capture. The participant observation took place through the participation of the researcher in the focalized groups and through ten posts with indication of links to internet news. To the technique of capture, we used the computer print screen function, that allows that what is being projected on the screen be captured as image. The thematic analysis of the group posts shows that six of the nine studied discuss themes that are common in feminine press, traditionally considered of interest to women, while the other three groups address other subjects, such as technology and politics. These groups seem to try to reject stereotypes related to gender, seeking to address issues that are not traditionally considered as women's interest. Regarding the comment networks, we identified three types of networks: closed, axial and rhizome. In the groups that discuss traditional themes of women's press, the closed and axial networks are prevalent. In the other groups, which address issues not commonly related to women's press, the rhizome network is prevalent. Regarding interactional roles, we identified the roles: host, casual sender, casual commentator, producer, speaker, debater and animator. We found that in seven of nine focused groups, administrators perform the institutional role of official administrator, which matches to the host role. Considering the interactional dynamics, we find that in six of nine focused groups, changes in commonly discussed topics altered the previously identified interactional dynamics. In these six groups, the proposal of topics for discussion that differ from the usual in the period investigated had an impact on comment networks and on interactional dynamics / Doutorado / Lingua Materna / Doutora em Lingüística Aplicada

Educational and mental health intervention methods for refugee children integrating in the Nordic mainstream education : A Systematic Literature ReviewEichler, Sharon January 2019 (has links)
BACKGROUND Good mental health makes integration and participation easier. Many refugees have a great deal of resilience and it is important to maintain it and where possible to strengthen it. How much psychological complaints and disorders occur is partly dependent on having (prospect of) work, education or other forms of participation in society, experiencing social support, and having a social network (with family and /or close friends). AIM The aim of this literature review is to explore evidence-based intervention methods that can support refugee children to integrate into the school environment of the resettlement country. METHOD In this systematic literature review, information was collected on a database for empirical studies and analyzed so as to discover efficient interventions for refugee children who just arrived in a Nordic country to help them integrate in mainstream schools. RESULTS For children, cohesion and support within the family are of great concern. In addition, prevention, recognition and receiving good care are crucial. The review discusses educational progress and social inclusion and how these can be improved for refugee children at a mainstream school. CONCLUSION The school takes on a very important role in the life of the refugee child. It is a strong protective factor and therefore life changing for the child and his/her family. This systematic literature review shows what kind of information is already produced and collected by researchers around the world. It can give an insight into the life of a refugee child and how they experience inclusion.

Type A Behavior and Social Support in Coronary Heart PatientsGeneral, Dale A. 08 1900 (has links)
There currently exists a large body of research associating the Type A behavior pattern with an increased risk of coronary heart disease. Further, studies in the area of social support and health suggest that an absence of supportive relationships may result in a decreased resistance to disease in general, both physical and psychological. The present study sought to integrate the Type A research and social support literature through a correlational investigation of the relationship between Type A behavior and perceived quality of social support in 46 male subjects undergoing out-patient treatment for symptomatic coronary disease. It was hypothesized that the Type A pattern would show a significant inverse relationship with perceived quality of social support.

The Role of the Landscape in the Socialization of Cohousing Communities: A Study in Western MassachusettsMarques Jordao, Emilie 13 July 2016 (has links)
The cohousing movement started in the United States in the 1990’s and since then has spread to over 160 communities throughout the country. This type of community is characterized by small dwelling units, high housing density, shared facilities such as a common house, shared commons and grouped parking. These are pedestrian-oriented communities with car circulation restricted to the outskirts of the neighborhood. Cohousing settlements have the goal of promoting social interaction and sustainable living through design, programming, and shared ideals. Many design characteristics, such as house proximity, density, building height and size, the location of parking, the availability of common spaces, and size of private spaces influence social interaction in the community. However, design is not solely responsible for promoting socialization. Other variables such as programming and personal ideologies also need to be taken into consideration when analyzing social interaction within cohousing communities. With regard to sustainability, cohousing is a valid option compared to traditional housing types because it encourages resource sharing, promotes a mixed-use and mixed-income environment, and strengthens social networks. Cohousing communities can thrive in a variety of shapes, sizes and settings, and have varying degrees of outdoor spaces and availability. This study considers how outdoor spaces affect socialization behavior among residents in cohousing and aims to provide recommendations for shaping outdoor spaces in such settings. Methods include a literature review, an analysis of case studies, spatial analysis, on-site observations, informal conversations and referencing previously conducted surveys.

The Impact of Social Distancing and Loneliness on Adolescents' Mental Health During Covid-19Barbieri, Marielena 20 October 2021 (has links)
The COVID-19 pandemic has severely limited physical interaction (e.g., school closures, 6ft- distances, quarantine) and disrupted the daily lives of adolescents which likely heightened levels of perceived loneliness and internalizing symptomology. Due to the novelty of social distancing regulations caused by COVID-19, little is known about the role that loneliness plays in the association between stress from social distancing regulations and adherence to these regulations, and later difficulties with internalizing symptoms. The current study examined the impact of social distancing regulations on adolescents’ wellbeing through perceived loneliness by using data from a 5-week longitudinal survey-based study conducted on parents and adolescents (aged 14-17) amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, this thesis examined how social distancing adherence and stress influenced adolescents’ loneliness, ultimately impacting their subsequent internalizing symptoms (i.e., depression and anxiety). To determine if there was a stress-buffering effect of close relationships (i.e., emotional support and conflict), moderators of links between social distancing, perceived loneliness, and internalizing symptoms were examined. Findings provided evidence that loneliness plays a unique mediating link between social distancing and internalizing symptoms. Further, preliminary evidence of specific sources of resiliency and risk in adolescents’ close relationships during the pandemic were found. Overall, the present study highlights how social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted adolescents’ well-being during a developmental period considered a turning point for psychopathology.
