Sport logistics research: reviewing and line marking of a new field

Herold, David Martin, Breitbarth, Tim, Schulenkorf, Nico, Kummer, Sebastian January 2019 (has links) (PDF)
Purpose: Although logistics management is a crucial part of local and global sports events, there is noresearch-driven characterization of "sports logistics management". The purpose of this paper is to conceptualize a framework that allows for a more structured recognition of logistics in sports, in general, and sport event management, in particular. In addition, we conduct a systematic literature review of sports logistics management and locate opportunities for future research both for sports management and logistics management scholars. Design/methodology/approach: Guided by Durach et al.'s (2017) systematic literature review approach, we identify key attributes and characteristics of sports logistics management. These are based on studies featuring at least partial aspects of logistics management in sports and sport events, and that were published between 2000 and mid-2019. Findings: The study reveals that sports logistics management, meaning logistics activities in sports andsport event management, is a heavily under-researched area that provides an abundance of scientific opportunities. Based on the three sport event types of local/regional sport events, major sport events and mega sport events, the authors propose four sports logistics management pillars that are central to the proposed Sport Logistics Framework: venue logistics management, sports equipment logistics management, athletes logistics management, and fan and spectators logistics management. Originality/value: This is the first study that builds on a systematic review of literature specifically focused on the logistics aspect in sports and sport event management. It provides a conceptual framework of sports logistics management and offers an agenda of future research opportunities.

Vem syns i rutan? A study of sports programming from a gender perspective

Andersson, Jonna, Neselrot, Jonathan January 2010 (has links)
This report is an analysis from a gender perspective of more than three hundred minutes in sports broadcasting on SVT and TV4. The study explains how air time is divided between male and female athletes as well as which sports, male or female, get the most air time. The sports are also categorized according to attitudes about the sports being masculine, feminine or neutral. In this way the study also shows the categories of sports that are given the most airtime. Our view before the study was that from a media perspective, the Swedish sports world was very male dominated. The results show that male athletes get more exposure than female athletes on both channels, this despite the fact that the membership of the Swedish sports clubs is fairly evenly divided between men and women.

Sport events and representational capital : investigating industry collaboration in Rugby World Cup 2015 planning

Shephard, Emily Jessica January 2015 (has links)
This research study investigated intangible assets generated by sport event hosting, specifically in relation to those industries that could influence the planning and leveraging of this alternate value source at Rugby World Cup (RWC) 2015 host destinations. The industries under scrutiny were sport, public sector and tourism, and the sampled host destinations were Cardiff, Exeter, Brighton and Gloucester. The objectives of this thesis were threefold: (1) to respond to the lack of knowledge around the collaborative roles of sport, public sector and tourism organisations in sport event planning, (2) to pioneer representational capital, a concept that looks to examine the input of those pinpointed planners in the identification and valuation of intangible opportunities generated by hosting RWC 2015 fixtures, (3) to probe planning discourse for examples of leveraging representational capital. Expert opinions were captured from executive-level RWC 2015 planners, and supported by secondary data analysis. The findings showed that public sector and sport organisation planning representatives were key RWC 2015 planners and that tourism planners, at a destination level, were not key collaborators in central planning forums, but collaborated extensively with national and international tourism organisations on RWC 2015 planning matters. Additionally, the analysis uncovered that representational capital was predominantly made-up of three key intangible asset areas: destination image, exposure and reputation. Indeed, these intangible areas were recognised and valued by all three industries, but the data analysis indicated that the levels of collaboration between the sampled planning industries did not translate into collectively leveraging representational capital. Moreover, one of the main breakthroughs from this investigation was identifying the interconnected nature of a range of intangible assets in generating greater value, i.e. increasing representational capital available to planners. Representational capital was found to have a strong connection throughout the leveraging process, in terms of the maximisation strategy and planned outputs in RWC 2015 planning, further supporting the study project objective of investigating the intangible in relation to sport events.

Espinoza Melendez, Roxana, Febres Patiño, Matías Nicolás, Flores Bendezú , Renato, Huaman Tomalla, Carlos 07 July 2020 (has links)
This work was created with the aim of promoting a new business model for arbitration services. Therefore, the need that different companies show when looking for people to carry out their different internal sporting events was observed in detail; We also have to mention the referees from different categories who find new opportunities to gain more experience, and earn additional income. Based on this reality, we found a solution similar to the one presented in European countries, which we consider to be a new proposal in the Peruvian market where we could have a good percentage of acceptance by these companies. With all the aforementioned, our objective is to provide a facility, since we have our own platform to offer an excellent arbitration service, this will be done based on performance evaluations towards our partners (arbitrators), where we will grant new growth opportunities to the people who are starting in the world of arbitration and improve the performance of arbitrators who may have had experience. In this way, as authors of the project we want to achieve strong loyalty with the different sports event companies that exist in Metropolitan Lima and to position ourselves in the Peruvian market. / Trabajo de investigación

Impacts territoriaux des événements sportifs parisiens (2013-2016) : l’approche par les dynamiques locales / Territorial impacts of sports event in Paris (2013-2016) : a local dynamics approach

Bourbillères, Hugo 26 September 2017 (has links)
Since the 90s, scientific works on the impact of sports events has been mainly focusing on economics. However, for some years now, intangible effects related to social dimension of these events are increasingly studied. In this context, this work aims to understand the impacts of recurring sports events based in Paris. Started from an extensive census, this work analyzes 9 case studies representative of the observed diversity of sporting events in Paris. Data collection is based on in situ observations (11), semi-directives interviews (41), and documentary analyses. Based on grounded theory which uses a fieldwork approach to yield a theoretical framework, the analysis demonstrates that the understanding of local stakes can only be achieved through a precise contextualization of local situations and political willingness. This inductive pathway launches two analytical determinations: (1) to build a way to analyze interplays of actors that reveal the centrality of the public entity in the networking process (2) to highlight the intangible relationship between the event and its host territory, through the concept of “territorial anchorage.” These developments lead to the proposal of a “model of the local dynamics”. This model aim to apprehend all that revolves around the sporting event: from what allows it to emerge to what it generates. In conclusion, regarding the decisive role of the public entity within Parisian’s sporting events, a more global approach is envisaged where the aggregation of local dynamics could evolve into a territorial dynamic, beginning with a portfolio of complementary sports events.
