Barreto, Joanice Maria 19 November 2010 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-26T14:52:36Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Joanice Maria Barreto.pdf: 814434 bytes, checksum: a106fc861500dc77875626564c0f8817 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2010-11-19 / The central research question is related to the activities of the seamstresses, sewing women in Divinópolis, MG, whose work is considered a domestic order, a natural aptitude and subject to lower wages. However, by sewing, women ensure the maintenance of home and family, break down stigma in relation to paid work and their role in society. One of the main objectives would be to show that sewing women who are in clothing industries or subcontracting for sewing services, play an important role in the process of economic development of the town, one of the poles of clothing production in the country. To write this dissertation were analyzed published reports in newspapers from the town and nearby region. Apart from written sources, there were made twelve interviews with a group of seamstresses who work in the clothing industry and others who worked in their homes, the professionals who work with subcontracting for sewing services. The collapse of the steel industry in the town and region in 1960 was one of the factors that contributed to women taking over leadership of the economy, trying to reverse the disastrous situation. Considering the situation of many unemployed men, women become visible in the job market through the sewing know-how that was successfully passed from generation to generation. The conquest of women barely changes its position inside and outside their homes. Besides there is a sexual division of labor unfairly and unequally, which still claims that women are responsible for almost all tasks and household chores / A questão central da pesquisa se relaciona às atividades das costureiras em Divinópolis, MG, cujo trabalho é considerado de ordem doméstica, uma aptidão natural e está sujeito a remunerações inferiores.

Small Business Leaders' Strategies for Obtaining United States Government Subcontracts

Dunbar, Damian C. 01 January 2019 (has links)
Small business leaders (SBLs) underutilize billions of dollars of U.S. government funding for small business subcontracting. The role of small business in the United States is important to local economies as well as a major contributor to the U.S. economy. Using the resource-based view as the conceptual framework for this study, the purpose of this qualitative multiple case study was to explore the strategies 5 government support sector SBLs in the mid-Atlantic region used to obtain U.S. government subcontract awards to remain sustainable. The selection criteria for this study consisted of small businesses in the mid-Atlantic region that have obtained subcontracts on prime government contracts. The data collection process included a review of the small business documents and participants' responses to semistructured interviews. The data analysis process included case study analysis and cross-case comparisons using methodological triangulation. Based on the data analysis, themes that emerged from the results of this study included education, experience, and networking related to strategy creation and implementation by the SBLs to obtain subcontracts on prime contracts. The findings of this study may contribute to social change by providing SBLs an opportunity to learn strategies to obtain subcontracts, which could increase organizational opportunities, promote job creation, and help to improve local economies through increases in tax revenues that could help the elderly, children, and others within the community.

Public contracting performance measurement: a study of social relations

Spivey, Wanda Wall 08 April 2013 (has links)
This research questions whether there is evidence that contract performance measurement is influenced by the social structure in which it is embedded. I question whether the strong ties between a prime contractor and its subcontractors lead to higher performance scores in public contracting. I also question if prior relations between a Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) manager and the private firm project manager whose work is being evaluated lead to higher performance scores.

The Relationships between Workforce Flexibility and Organizational Performance of the Cooperative Subcontractors in the Steel Industry --¡§S¡¨and China Steel Corporation as examples

Huang, Jane-Hsing 26 August 2003 (has links)
This research focuses on the relationship between workforce flexibility and organizational performance of the cooperative subcontractors in the Steel Industry, and compares the differences between ¡§S¡¨ and China Steel Corporations. The questionnaires were mailed to 161 of the ¡§S¡¨ Steel Co.¡¦s subcontractors and 77 were returned; so the response rate is 48 %. Other 108 data were from survey data of the China Steel Co.¡¦s cooperative subcontractor, which are from my advisor. I deleted the overlapping cooperative subcontractors between the two steel corporations. Total survey size is 181. The results are shown as follows: 1. Deployment of workforce flexibility Characteristics of the functional flexibility of the Cooperative Subcontractors include development of multi-skill, horizontal and vertical mobility. The numerical flexibility is represented by the fact that average 80 percents of temporary workers among all the full time jobs, but there exists substantial difference. 16 percent of the subcontractors contracted out at least part of their jobs. The design of wage structure had flexibility. The ratio of variable wage is about 20 %. The subjective organizational performance was above average. As to the objective organizational performance, the contracting ratio of steel sales was nearly 50 %. The main reason for obtaining the deal were quality, customer satisfaction, delivery speed, and price. The turnover rate on average was not low (nearly 10 %). The reasons for the high turnover rate were the high proportion of temporary workers, and rapid change in demand, but the turnover rate was negatively related to the amount of capital and the number of regular workers. 2. The relationship between the organizational characteristic, the use of workforce flexibility and the performance of organization The different characteristics of organization including the number of divisions, the types of subcontractors, the number of regular workers, and the amount of capital have caused significant differences on the proportion of temporary workers and subcontractors. The smaller the size of regular worker of cooperative subcontractors is, the more likely the use of temporary workers will be. The labor subcontractors were more likely to use temporary workers, but the engineering subcontractors were more likely to outsource. The amount of capital and the dependence of subcontractors upon the steel company caused significant differences on the design of wage flexibility and the proportion of variable wage. The amount of capital of subcontractors has significant impact on the organizational performance, and the turnover rate. The number of regular worker caused significant differences on the operational performance and the turnover rate. The proportion of subcontracting from the steel company caused minor difference on operational performance. These show that the larger the amount of capital, the size of employees, the better the subjective organizational performance; whereas the smaller the organization, the higher the turnover rate. 3. The relationship between the use of workforce flexibility, other influential factors and the performance of organization The functional flexibility and the wage flexibility had positive association with the subjective organizational performance. The horizontal and vertical mobility had positive association with the turnover rate. The numerical flexibility was not associated with the organizational performance, but the proportion of temporary workers has significant positive impact on the turnover rate. The influential factors such as horizontal and vertical mobility, the dependence of subcontractors on the steel corporation, and the flexible wage design would influence the organizational operational performance. The influential factors such as wage flexibility, the amount of capital, and the length of time of cooperation with the steel company will influence the organizational production performance. But the proportion of temporary workers would directly influence the turnover rate.

An Analysis Of The Formations Of Trade Union Consciousness And Worker Identity In Turkey: A Case Study Of The Tuvasas Railcar Factory

Bilgin, Oguzhan 01 September 2010 (has links) (PDF)
The thesis attempts to provide an analysis of the role of trade union membership in the formations of trade union consciousness and worker identity and the assumption that the trade union membership is influential in the formation of worker identity is tested in this study. It is mainly based upon a field study conducted in Railcar Factory of T&Uuml / VASAS in Sakarya, makes a comparison between union member workers and non-union member subcontractors in terms of the formation of trade union consciousness and worker identity. It will also be possible to point out concretely that the formations of trade consciousness and worker identity are analysed through perceptions, consciousness and attitudes by taking the social, economic and political dimensions into consideration. It is analysed that the trade union membership has not a significant influence on the formation of worker identity and there are no big differences among the union member workers and subcontractors in terms of the aproaches towards trade unionism, working class consciousness and worker identity.

Glas de Luxe : En utvidgad designerroll förframtiden i svensk glasindustri

Gustavsson, Magnus January 2014 (has links)

Explaining Informalization Via Labor Market Segmentation Theory: Evidence From Turkey

Basak, Zeynep 01 September 2005 (has links) (PDF)
The primary aim of the thesis is to explain informality with the help of labor market segmentation theory in the case of Turkey. In so doing, the informalization process in Turkey is discussed with reference to not only the definitional confusions in different conceptualizations of the informal sector in the literature, but also trade liberalization, privatization, subcontracting relationships and the notion of &ldquo / flexible firm&rdquo / , as well. In order to find an answer to the question of &ldquo / how the dimensions of informality fit into the perception about labor market segmentation theory&rdquo / , the field surveys conducted by different authors are analyzed. The findings of these field surveys confirm a possible explanation of informalization via labor market segmentation theory in Turkey.

This study aims to analyze the main characteristics of subcontracting in the associations of seamstresses Peninsula Itapagipe, Salvador-Bahia, working with faction, in order to understand its impact on relationships and working conditions on workers. It is conceived that the processes of productions flexibility in the garment sector have worsened the precarious nature of the workforce, especially women, combining new strategies of organizing production, supposedly emancipated, and maintenance of older work, reproducing the domination of capital. A faction of stitching is the synthesis itapagipana associations. Interviews and experience of the daily work of the seamstresses permeate the empirical work, anchored in the dialectic.

Salvador
