High Performance Content Centric Networking on Virtual Infrastructure

Tang, Tang 28 November 2013 (has links)
Content Centric Networking (CCN) is a novel networking architecture in which communication is resolved based on names, or descriptions of the data transferred instead of addresses of the end-hosts. While CCN demonstrates many promising potentials, its current implementation suffers from severe performance limitations. In this thesis we study the performance and analyze the bottleneck of the existing CCN prototype. Based on the analysis, a variety of design alternatives are proposed for realizing high performance content centric networking over virtual infrastructure. Preliminary implementations for two of the approaches are developed and evaluated on Smart Applications on Virtual Infrastructure (SAVI) testbed. The evaluation results demonstrate that our design is capable of providing scalable content centric routing solution beyond 1Gbps throughput under realistic traffic load.

Exploring women entrepreneurship in selected areas in South Africa / Stander C.J.

Stander, Cornelia Johanna January 2011 (has links)
It is vital that a culture of entrepreneurship is developed in order to unleash the economic potential of all people in South Africa. However, because of the South African woman’s inherited gender role and historical imbalances, women entrepreneurs are faced with unique challenges and barriers when attempting to establish and grow their own businesses. Thus, this study investigated the unique challenges and barriers faced by women when conducting entrepreneurial activities. The literature study provided background information on entrepreneurship in general as well as information on the importance of entrepreneurship to the economy and constraints of entrepreneurship. The woman entrepreneur was explored in terms of her characteristics, motivation to become an entrepreneur and the unique challenges she had to face. The empirical study consisted of a questionnaire developed by the North– West University, specifically the Potchefstroom Business School situated on the Potchefstroom Campus. A total of 120 questionnaires were distributed and 87 were fully completed and collected, which resulted in a response rate of 72.5%. The data collected was statistically analysed using Statistica 10 (Statsoft, 2011). The data from questionnaires was coded and investigated and then transformed to useful outputs such as frequency tables. The frequency tables were used to draw conclusions and to make recommendations regarding the development of women entrepreneurs in South Africa. / Thesis (MBA)--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2012.

The efficacy of the talking tables program in the development of phonological awareness in kindergarten children at risk for reading difficulties

Hodgins, Helena 23 December 2014 (has links)
Programs to support early literacy development are implemented regularly in the schools without research on their efficacy. This study examined the efficacy of a commonly used program for struggling readers. Twelve kindergarten children who were at-risk for reading difficulties took part in a 10 week intervention program called Talking Tables. Twelve kindergarten children, also at-risk for reading difficulties were the control group, and received no intervention. The children in the intervention group made significant gains in phonological awareness. The results suggest that the Talking Tables is effective as an early intervention in developing phonological awareness skills in kindergarten children that are at-risk for reading difficulties. / Graduate / 0535

[en] EXPONENTIAL AND LOGARITHMIC FUNCTIONS: TEACHING LOGARITHMS THROUGH TABLES / [pt] FUNÇÕES EXPONENCIAIS E LOGARÍTMICAS: ENSINANDO LOGARITMOS ATRAVÉS DE SUAS TÁBUAS

WALDEIR AZEVEDO JUNIOR 23 February 2018 (has links)
[en] This study aims to approach the teaching of exponential and logarithmic functions regarding the theoretical aspects to the enhancement of concepts. In order to achieve this goal, this study was based on bibliographic research, articles, and dissertations, among other sources. Before we approached the issue on exponentials, we went over the concept of functions and highlited the importance of tables. We also approached the issue of exponentials citing from some of its applications and demonstrations. We brought up, as well, the process of setting up the decimal logarithmic table. In order to enhance the knowledge on the subject, we will make use of calculators and tables so as to reinforce the knowledge over the subject in some activities proposed to demonstrate the properties of the exponential and logarithmic functions as well as the important mathematical constant e which occurs naturally in natural phenomena. We hope to contribute positively to the bringing out of interest to teachers and likewise enhancement to their knowledge on the subject studied and, specially, motivation to students generating a better understanding over the importance of logarithms.
