Motifs de Tate mixtes et éclatements à la MacPherson-Procesi ; Une application aux valeurs zêta multiples motiviques

Dans cette thèse, on étudie liens étroits qui existent entre les valeurs zêta multiples et la géométrie des espaces de modules de courbes en genre 0. En particulier, on y montre comment les deux produits de mélanges (shuffle et stuffle) des valeurs zêta multiples reflètent le comportement de certaines applications d'oubli entre espaces de modules courbes. Un des objectifs de mon travail a été de comprendre comment ces produits de mélange existent dans le cadre des motifs de Tate mixtes attachés aux espaces de module de courbes. On rappellera, dans un premier temps, les définitions et les propriétés des deux produits de mélange. Ensuite, on fera le lien avec la géométrie des espaces de modules de courbes. Puis, après quelques rappels sur les motifs encadrés, on montrera comment effectuer le passage aux motifs de Tate mixtes pour le produit shuffle dans le cadre des valeurs zêta multiples motiviques de Goncharov et Manin. Enfin, le dernier chapitre est consacré au stuffle motivique. Après avoir adapté un théorème de Y. Hu sur les successions d'éclatements à la situation des motifs de Tate mixtes, on construira une famille de variétés. À partir de là, on définira une nouvelles versions des valeurs zêta multiples motiviques. Pour parvenir à cette construction, on étudiera, entre autres, l'intersection d'hypersurfaces particulières et la structure de Hodge mixte de certains groupes de cohomologie relative. On obtient alors une forme de relation stuffle pour les motifs de Tate mixtes encadrés ces nouvelles valeur zêta motiviques dont on déduit les relations de stuffle pour les MZV motiviques de Goncharov et Manin.

Intercultural Mediations: Cross-Cultural Collaborations in Early Twentieth-Century First Nations Literature

This thesis examines the implications of three early twentieth-century First Nations collaborations that were produced in the context of salvage ethnography and attributed mainly to their non-aboriginal collaborators: Henry Tate and Franz Boas’s Tsimshian Mythology (1916), E. Pauline Johnson and Chief Joe Capilano’s Legends of Vancouver (1912), and Chief William K’HHalserten Sepass and Eloise Street’s Sepass Poems (1911-15). By using a versioning framework to attain a “fluid” reading across variants, I can identify the intercultural mediations across versions and attempt to engage in a form of digital repatriation. Through digital archives like Kimberly Christen’s “Mukurtu” project, these cultural documents can be repatriated and accessed only by those who, following cultural protocols, should have access. Ultimately, an analysis of variants suggests that while salvage ethnography privileged the non-aboriginal collaborators, the changeability of these narratives across versions functions to perpetually unfix these texts from a static concept of aboriginal identity.

Machine-Level Software Optimization of Cryptographic Protocols

This work explores two methods for practical cryptography on mobile devices. The first method is a quantum-resistant key-exchange protocol proposed by Jao et al.. As the use of mobile devices increases, the deployment of practical cryptographic protocols designed for use on these devices is of increasing importance. Furthermore, we are faced with the possible development of a large-scale quantum computer in the near future and must take steps to prepare for this possibility. We describe the key-exchange protocol of Jao et al. and discuss their original implementation. We then describe our modifications to their scheme that make it suitable for use in mobile devices. Our code is between 18-26% faster (depending on the security level). The second is an highly optimized implementation of Miller's algorithm that efficiently computes the Optimal Ate pairing over Barreto-Naehrig curves proposed by Grewal et al.. We give an introduction to cryptographic pairings and describe the Tate pairing and its variants. We then proceed to describe Grewal et al.'s implementation of Miller's algorithm, along with their optimizations. We describe our use of hand-optimized assembly code to increase the performance of their implementation. For the Optimal Ate pairing over the BN-446 curve, our code is between 7-8% faster depending on whether the pairing uses affine or projective coordinates.

This thesis analyzes contemporary participatory installation art, play theory, especially Johan Huizingas seminal Homo Ludens, and the aesthetic theories of Nicolas Bourriauds Relational Aesthetics and Jacques Rancires Politics of Aesthetics. Ping Pond Table 1998 by Gabriel Orozco and Test Site 2006 by Cartsen Hller are studied to illustrate how play and the aesthetic can become political by repositioning the contemporary viewer as an active and playing participant in the artwork, prompting an awareness of the matrix of power between audience, artwork and institution, and by creating the possibility for dynamic social roles. This thesis, like the artworks it examines, invokes a conception of play as a vital construct of culture rather than simply the domain of childhood imagination. Overturning the dominant concept of play and reinstating play in adult life becomes a political act because it engages adults in liberated, creative thinking that challenges traditional, consumer-driven, practical and thus constructive behaviours.

P-adic local Langlands correspondence and geometry / Langlands p-adique : géometrie et programme

Cette these concerne la geometrie de la correspondance de Langlands p-adique. On donne la formalisation des methodes de Emerton, qui permettrait d'etablir la conjecture de Fontaine-Mazur dans le cas general des groupes unitaires. Puis, on verifie que ce formalism est satisfait dans la cas de U(3) ou on utilise la construction de Breuil-Herzig pour la correspondence p-adique. De point de vue local, on commence l'etude de cohomologie modulo p et p-adiques de tour de Lubin-Tate pour GL_2(Q_p). En particulier, on demontre que on peut retrouver la correspondence de Langlands p-adique dans la cohomologie completee de tour de Lubin-Tate. / This thesis concerns the geometry behind the p-adic local Langlands correspondence. We give a formalism of methods of Emerton, which would permit to establish the Fontaine-Mazur conjecture in the general case for unitary groups. Then, we verify that our formalism works well in the case of U(3) where we use the construction of Breuil-Herzig as the input for the p-adic correspondence.From the local viewpoint, we start a study of the modulo p and p-adic cohomology of the Lubin-Tate tower for GL_2(Q_p). In particular, we show that we can find the local p-adic Langlands correspondence in the completed cohomology of the Lubin-Tate tower.

Agencification and quangocratisation of cultural organisations in the U.K. and South Korea : theory and policy

This research focuses on agencification and quangocratisation (AQ) through a comparison of the experiences of South Korea and the UK. Although a number of studies of AQ have been produced recently, these reforms remain inadequately understood. Since AQ involves the structural disaggregation of administrative units from existing departments, executive agencies and quangos have distinct characteristics which are quite different from ordinary core departments. There are a number of factors which influence these changes; and this thesis explores nine existing theories which are available to explain these phenomena. Case studies are presented of Tate Modern in the UK and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA), which are carefully analysed to examine the validity of those nine arguments. Although cultural agencies, which show some unique features, have become increasingly an essential part of the national economy, they have scarcely been researched from the viewpoint of public policy. This thesis endeavours to explore distinctive characteristics of this policy area; and moreover, it examines the diverse variables which have an impact on policy formation and its results through the process of comparison of arguments. The major tasks of this thesis are to investigate the applicability of the nine arguments and to weigh their merits. As a corollary of this comprehensiveness, it examines the whole public sectors of both countries, in order to show the broader picture and to understand the processes of changes and their backgrounds. More profoundly, similarities and differences between both countries are compared from both macro and micro perspectives. At the same time, the results of AQ are analysed through the comparison of outputs or outcomes before and after these changes, with a view to exploring whether their rationales are appropriate. Furthermore, it also examines the institutional constraints which influence not only the change of agencies but also their performances. Besides which, it seeks to find strategies for overcoming these constraints. This thesis adopts systematic and comprehensive approaches regarding basic concepts and data. It draws on theories of comparative research, the scope of the public sector, the classification and analysis of agencies and quangos, and theories underlying the detailed components of each argument and epistemological assumptions. Therefore, it suggests various aspects which enable us to broaden our understanding of the changes within the public sector; and to generate practical understanding to inform real world reform.

Géométrie et arithmétique explicites des variétés abéliennes et applications à la cryptographie

Les principaux objets étudiés dans cette thèse sont les équations décrivant le morphisme de groupe sur une variété abélienne, plongée dans un espace projectif, et leurs applications en cryptographie. Notons g sa dimension et k son corps de définition. Ce mémoire est composé de deux parties. La première porte sur l'étude des courbes d'Edwards, un modèle pour les courbes elliptiques possédant un sous-groupe de points k-rationnels cyclique d'ordre 4, connues en cryptographie pour l'efficacité de leur loi d'addition et la possibilité qu'elle soit définie pour toute paire de points k-rationnels (loi d'addition k-complète). Nous en donnons une interprétation géométrique et en déduisons des formules explicites pour le calcul du couplage de Tate réduit sur courbes d'Edwards tordues, dont l'efficacité rivalise avec les modèles elliptiques couramment utilisés. Cette partie se conclut par la génération, spécifique au calcul de couplages, de courbes d'Edwards dont les tailles correspondent aux standards cryptographiques actuellement en vigueur. Dans la seconde partie nous nous intéressons à la notion de complétude introduite ci-dessus. Cette propriété est cryptographiquement importante car elle permet d'éviter des attaques physiques, comme les attaques par canaux cachés, sur des cryptosystèmes basés sur les courbes elliptiques ou hyperelliptiques. Un précédent travail de Lange et Ruppert, basé sur la cohomologie des fibrés en droite, permet une approche théorique des lois d'addition. Nous présentons trois résultats importants : tout d'abord nous généralisons un résultat de Bosma et Lenstra en démontrant que le morphisme de groupe ne peut être décrit par strictement moins de g+1 lois d'addition sur la clôture algébrique de k. Ensuite nous démontrons que si le groupe de Galois absolu de k est infini, alors toute variété abélienne peut être plongée dans un espace projectif de manière à ce qu'il existe une loi d'addition k-complète. De plus, l'utilisation des variétés abéliennes nous limitant à celles de dimension un ou deux, nous démontrons qu'une telle loi existe pour leur plongement projectif usuel. Finalement, nous développons un algorithme, basé sur la théorie des fonctions thêta, calculant celle-ci dans P^15 sur la jacobienne d'une courbe de genre deux donnée par sa forme de Rosenhain. Il est désormais intégré au package AVIsogenies de Magma. / The main objects we study in this PhD thesis are the equations describing the group morphism on an abelian variety, embedded in a projective space, and their applications in cryptograhy. We denote by g its dimension and k its field of definition. This thesis is built in two parts. The first one is concerned by the study of Edwards curves, a model for elliptic curves having a cyclic subgroup of k-rational points of order 4, known in cryptography for the efficiency of their addition law and the fact that it can be defined for any couple of k-rational points (k-complete addition law). We give the corresponding geometric interpretation and deduce explicit formulae to calculate the reduced Tate pairing on twisted Edwards curves, whose efficiency compete with currently used elliptic models. The part ends with the generation, specific to pairing computation, of Edwards curves with today's cryptographic standard sizes. In the second part, we are interested in the notion of completeness introduced above. This property is cryptographically significant, indeed it permits to avoid physical attacks as side channel attacks, on elliptic -- or hyperelliptic -- curves cryptosystems. A preceeding work of Lange and Ruppert, based on cohomology of line bundles, brings a theoretic approach of addition laws. We present three important results: first of all we generalize a result of Bosma and Lenstra by proving that the group morphism can not be described by less than g+1 addition laws on the algebraic closure of k. Next, we prove that if the absolute Galois group of k is infinite, then any abelian variety can be projectively embedded together with a k-complete addition law. Moreover, a cryptographic use of abelian varieties restricting us to the dimension one and two cases, we prove that such a law exists for their classical projective embedding. Finally, we develop an algorithm, based on the theory of theta functions, computing this addition law in P^15 on the Jacobian of a genus two curve given in Rosenhain form. It is now included in AVIsogenies, a Magma package.
