[SIC] Sutis Invenções Curatoriais: ou como criar um sismógrafo para si / [SIC] Subtle Curatorial Inventions: how to create a seismograph for yourself

Asanuma, Gisele Dozono 21 August 2018 (has links)
SUBTLE CURATORIAL INVENTIONS is a poetical assembly of events harvested from art, clinic and at points where art and clinic meet and sparkle. It is a aesthetic-clinic machinery created in order to show some invisibles, illegibles and unspeakables. This assembly reunites in three curatorial constellations [BLACK BOX], [BLIND SPOT] and [SEISMOGRAPH] images, gestures and words, artisanal manufactures wiggled from one end to the other, quivering at the edge of language, according to Deleuze. Aesthetical inventions that constitute knowledge, forms of world-apprehension, variation in time and appropriation of experiences, inquiring as to what these images gestures present from a time and a strength, insisting on existing in spite of everything, to quote Didi-Huberman. This work is constructed upon the concept of inoperability proposed by Agamben aiming at helping us to dismantle the demand for answers on the key efficiency/efficacy, functionality or completeness and the concept of remembrance, from Benjamin, evoked by smaller narratives, history gaps, that in opacity may twinkle becomings. A poetic-curatorial assembly which plays with the concepts of curatorship from art and careship from care in health, gathering gestures, images and narratives that come from surviving prescriptive ways of living, resisting ideals of cure and normalized existential protocols.

Étude traductologique des figures de la répétition sous le prisme de l'approche littérale : le Bourgeois Gentilhomme de Molière en anglais / Translatological study of the figures of repetition through the prism of the literal approach : molière's Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme in English

Ksouri, Imen 16 December 2014 (has links)
This study examines the treatment of repetition in the English translations of Moliere’s play Le Bourgeois gentilhomme, a text where lexical and syntactic repetitions abound. This research is conducted by way of a contrastive analysis of nine English versions of the play that we compare to the original and to each other. Based on Berman’s principles both from a theoretical point of view (the translation of the letter) and a practical one (evaluation of translation and deforming tendencies), this analysis allows us to identify the general patterns of each translation, and thereby, deepen and nuance thinking about literal translation while reasserting the status of literalism as the most adequate solution for the handling of phenomena pertaining to the form of a given text or discourse, such as repetition.

A Proposed Model Of Safety Climate: Contributing Factors And Consequences

Yucebilgic, Harika 01 June 2007 (has links) (PDF)
The aim of the present study was to propose a model on safety climate by investigating the relationship between safety climate perceptions of employees and their safety-related behaviors in the workplace. Additionally, effects of fatalism views and risk taking/sensation seeking tendencies on safe behaviors were analyzed. The possible moderating effects of these variables on safety climate-safe behavior relationship were also investigated. A total of 185 blue-collar employees working in a manufacturing firm participated in the study. Participants filled out the questionnaires including scales of safety climate, cultural values (fatalism, individualism, hierarchy, and egaliterianism) and dimensions (collectivism, power distance, and uncertainty avoidance), and risk taking/sensation seeking. The outcome variables included self-reported compliance with safety rules and self-reported percentage of safety equipment use. Safety climate perceptions predicted compliance with the safety rules. Also, sensation seeking tendencies were found to predict use of protective equipments. The hypothesized relationships concerning fatalism views and moderations were not confirmed in the present study. In addition to the hypotheses, safety climate perceptions tended to be more positive as collectivism, power distance increased, and uncertainty avoidance of the employees increased. Sensation seeking tendencies were higher for employees who reported less equipment use. Employees who reported to have had an accident had higher risk taking scores than employees who reported not to have had an accident involvement. The results are discussed with the implications and contributions of the study. Limitations of the study are presented along with some suggestions for future research.

Villarroel, Marina 12 1900 (has links)
“Needless to say my experience of translating constitutes the core of my general relationship with translation. I am a translation studies’ theorist because primarily I am a translator” (Berman…p. 16, my translation). Antoine Berman’s translation theory is rooted in his practice. Even though his name is irreversibly linked to the field of translation studies and his ideas have caused numerous debates, few researchers have studied the relation between his theory and practice. This thesis attempts to fill that gap through an analysis of the French translation of Roberto Arlt’s El juguete rabioso by Isabelle and Antoine Berman. It explores how Antoine Berman’s translation practice and theory feed from each other. The first chapter recounts the development of Antoine Berman: his work as a translator, his influences, his theory of translation and its impact, as well as the criticism addressed towards it. In chapter 2, we discover Roberto Arlt and his work in order to fully understand the problematic points of its translation. Following Antoine Berman’s method, chapter 3 analyses the only French translation of El juguete rabioso published in 1984. It concentrates on two particular elements of the text: the diverse discursive registers, including the use of Argentine sociolects, and their lexical richness. In conclusion, the study shows that Le jouet enragé carries the flaws (défectivité) inherent in any introductory translation. Too attached to linguistic conventions, this first version timidly recreates the arrative diversity of the original. Thus, it could be suggested that Antoine Berman’s theories, and more specifically his list of “deforming tendencies”, reflect in part, and, above all, the limits and difficulties that he encountered in the exercise of his practice.

The relationship between job insecurity, job satisfaction and organisational commitment in a mining organisation / by Moleko Victor Rannona

Rannona, Moleko Victor January 2003 (has links)
Companies throughout the world are faced with continual changes in order to remain competitive and survive. These changes are caused by economic uncertainty, globalisation, mergers and acquisitions. The results are unemployment or transfer of workers to the different areas of the organisation. These changes have unprecedented effect on workers, especially the survivors of retrenchments or downsizing, resulting in a feeling of job insecurity. lnsecurity is concerned with the continued existence of jobs for the employees in the organisation. It is characterised by feelings of powerlessness, uncertainty and fear. Consequently, job insecurity has emerged as an important stressor in modern organisations. Studies indicate that job insecurity leads to physical and psychological health problems. Further employees who experience feelings of job insecurity are more likely to display undesirable organisational outcomes such as withdrawal behaviours, job dissatisfaction and low organisational commitment. The empirical objective of this study was to determine the possible relationship between job insecurity, job satisfaction and organisational commitment. Also, whether job insecurity can predict job satisfaction and organisational commitment. A survey design was used to realise the research objectives. The study population consisted of 121 employees in a mining organisation. The Job Insecurity Questionnaire, the Revised Short-version of the Minnesota Job Satisfaction Questionnaire and the Organisational Commitment Questionnaires were used as measuring instruments. Reliability and construct validity of all three questionnaires were found to be acceptable. It was found that respondents experienced below average levels of job insecurity. They further showed above average levels of job satisfaction and organisational commitment. The findings indicate that a relationship exists between job insecurity, job satisfaction and organisational commitment. Practically significant differences of medium to large effect were established for race, respondents having qualifications of less than Std 10, semiskilled, grade C3, 4 and 5 and E, DL and DU, and who are affiliated to NUMSA, which means that they experience more job insecurity compared to other groups. Through regression analysis, it was established that job insecurity predicts 44% of total variance of job satisfaction and organisational commitment. Limitations were identified and recommendations with regard to future research and recommendations for the organisation were made. / Thesis (M.Com. The more you know the more you search : post-decision information search and the effect of prior knowledge

Rodrigues, Maura Ferreira January 2016 (has links)
Information search behavior is known to antecede non-trivial decisions, but it may also occur in the post-decision timespan. Researchers have studied individuals’ prior knowledge as a predictor of information sought prior to the decision. Only a few studies have focused on post-decision information seeking, and these studies did not explore the influence of prior knowledge (i.e., decision-related knowledge accumulate prior to the event of the final decision). Because product knowledge is an important component in consumers’ decision-processes and it remains within individuals’ long-term memory after they made the purchase decision, investigating the effect of pre-decision product knowledge on post-decision amounts of information sought might fill an important gap in consumer information-search-behavior literature. This was the main motivation for the current research. Additionally, this work proposes that maximizing tendencies may moderate the relationship between knowledge and post-decision information search. The thesis reports three studies varying in their data collection approach (experimental and survey). Across these studies, the proposed effect was investigated as occurring in two stages of consumers’ post-decision experience: pre-use and post-use. In essence, results indicate that the consumers’ knowledge increases information search during the post-purchase timespan. This effect is stronger among consumers with high maximizing tendencies (individuals that feel the need to maximize their decisions). I also explored the role of cognitive dissonance as a bridging factor to the relationship between prior knowledge and information seeking. Lastly, choice-uncertainty was found to suppress effects of prior knowledge.

The present research has the Oral History as investigation method. Its purpose is to support in understanding the interactions that happen among the School, Family and Mathematics. For that, we used some procedures as the Thematic Autobiographies. These made it possible to select the participant students of this research, as, students of the first year of the Senior High School; the Semi-Structured Interviews that shows the students' depositions integrally, the families, the mathematic's teachers and school coordinators and the Tendencies of Conservation, Change and Movement that through the participants' speeches and of the studied theory , they provided some retlections about the matters that orientate our research. However, these research procedures are led by the theoretical beginnings of the Oral History , which also allowed us to knit considerations regarding to Memory and History of the Present. This way, through the Oral History , we had the possibility to knit referring considerations to the tactics and practices of the relationships among the School, the Family and the Mathematics, ruled in the speeches of the own school members, of the teaching of Mathematics and the family. This way, we can point that, when we give the right the voice to these subjects, we are allowing that this group (not only represented by the students, teachers, families and coordinators that participated of this research), find your voice and that it can take you to a new vision of the local and regional history and, it can also help you to create a deeper understanding of the social and cultural conditions that affect you.

Regionální diferenciace populačního vývoje v Ústeckém kraji: historickogeografická analýza / Regional differentiation in the population development of Ústecký Region: historic-geographic analysis

FIKAROVÁ, Nikola January 2018 (has links)
This master´s thesis is focused on analysis of regional differentiation of population development in Ústecký Region. The analysis is divided into three stages of human society evolution, such as pre-industrial, industrial and post-industrial. Beside these stages, the thesis also deals with a historical context of given period and at the same time, deals with comparison of this phenomena with the rest of the Czech. The population in Ústecký Region was influenced by factors, as natural and socioeconomic determinants. The thesis emphasises phenomena connected to railways, hierarchical arrangements of residences and their administrative functions. Intensity of these three facts had been examined on a sample of 119 villages. After the analysis, the evaluation of dynamics of the population development follows; this time it is viewed from the perspective of microregions. The synthetic part follows the analysis and deals with categorization of those microregions, it generalises population´s trends and it predicates its development. The final part then confirms hypothesis given in the beginning of the thesis.
