Sundelind, Lars January 2007 (has links)
Non-compulsory schools in Sweden should make use of the knowledge and experience that is available in society according to the aims and objectives of the Curriculum for the Non-Compulsory School System - Lpf 94. There are however only a few studies which have focused on the contacts between non-compulsory schools and society as represented by the business world in Sweden. The purpose of this study is to examine in what ways and to what extent non-compulsory schools are following the Curriculum by using the knowledge and experience of the business world. The perspectives have been: Which contacts in the business world and which working practices from the business world are implemented in teaching in non-compulsory schools? In what way do these contacts and working practices affect the teaching and learning of business administration? The purpose of this study is also to examine if the teachers in non-compulsory schools use business information and different kinds of business knowledge and experiences in order to keep themselves up-to-date regarding the business world. The perspectives have been: Are the teachers using up-to-date business information or business experience? Are the teachers applying a multicultural perspective in teaching business studies? In what way does this kind of information or first-hand experience affect the teaching and learning of business administration? The method used in this study was to interview seven teachers from two non-compulsory schools in Stockholm. The research showed that both schools use different kinds of business contacts, business experience and up-to-date business information as input in their teaching. Both schools are also using mini enterprise and work experience in teaching the pupils business administration. Only a few of the teachers have applied a multicultural perspective in their teaching. The research also showed that it will take time, resources and coordination to increase contacts with the business world. These contacts are essential for helping the pupils to achieve a degree of practical learning and knowledge which is mentioned in the Curriculum for the Non-Compulsory School System as well as being in demand in working life.

Improving school functioning – the inschool and out of school blend – the Sri Lankan effort

Perera, Wilfred January 2011 (has links)
Sri Lanka’s past, present and future efforts to improve the provision of education are in focus. Decentralization of education is reviewed. Since 1960s when decentralization in education management was initiated schools have been subjected to multiple control by the such layers of management as the provincial ministry, provincial department, zonal office and the division. To reduce role ambiguity clarity in division of roles and functions is needed as well as collaboration among the different layers.  Historical and recent reasons that hinder decentralisation and school autonomy are reviewed. Structural and cultural changes that facilitate the democratisation of school management are proposed. The newest trend in educational decentralisation in the country the Programme on School Improvement (PSI) is a kind of school based management. In PSI, schools are given a degree of autonomy in the areas of planning, teaching-learning process, co-curricular activities, staff development and the maintenance and development of the school plant. PSI enables schools to forge links with local communities through the establishment of a School Development Committees to improve resource mobilization and public accountability, thus creating better learning cultures in schools. The role and functions of the zonal education office are examined. The role of the zone is proposed to provide strategic guidance to the schools and effectively monitor overall performance. The zones have to work with schools and not on schools. The role and the main challenges of the school leaders in the proposed decentralized set-up are also examined and the need for more collaborative partnerships within the school is emphasized. The research further examines the factors that contribute to the institutionalisation of the new organizational innovation and as to how the capacity building institutes can help in transforming the roles of the zonal staff and school leaders.

Les représentations de la Prusse orientale dans l’Allemagne réunifiée, enjeux politiques et identitaires / Representing East Prussia in reunified Germany : political and identity aspect

Besnault, Etienne 05 July 2011 (has links)
East Prussia belongs to the provinces Germany lost in 1945. This loss was only fully ratified in the early 1990’s, when the FRG gave up its legal position in order to enable a rapid reunification. The permanent renonciation from the FRG to what it considered as its rights over the Oder-Neisse territories had a contrasted effect on the reunified Germany society. The population of the former GDR did not feel concerned about a problem deemed not to exist in this state, whereas the FRG one accepted the loss of those teritories a long time ago. Only both the associations of refugees born in those territories and the most conservative fringes of the society including the extreme right refused or still refuse to talk about (German) East Prussia as an element from the past. Trough the public treatment (which is sometimes an instrumentalisation) of the subject by three main actors, we are focusing on determining the role that East Prussia directly or indirectly plays in reunified Germany. These major actors are : • The refugees themselves, first concerned, • Both major popular German political parties CDU/CSU (conservative) and SPD (social-democrat). Since the mid-1990’s the memory resurgence of the subject has forced them to confront it again, as it’s been taking a new place in the public field. • The school system : a structuring institution par excellence in terms of identity and memory.
