THE LET ME LEARN PROFESSIONAL LEARNING PROCESS FOR TEACHER TRANSFORMATIONCalleja, Colin 17 July 2013 (has links) (PDF)
This research set out to explore how a group of nine educators from a Catholic Church school in Malta, who have attended the Let Me Learn professional Learning process (LMLpLp), experienced personal and professional transformation. This study investigates those factors influencing participants in their transformative learning journey. It also explores the dynamics of transformative learning and whether individual transformation affects the school’s transformative learning experience. More specifically this study set out to explore how teachers who participated in the Let Me Learn professional Learning process have experienced transformative learning.
This study takes a qualitative phenomenological approach. It seeks to identify phenomena of personal and professional transformative learning through the perceptions of the educators participating in this study. Through the use of the semi-structured interview it seeks to gather ‘deep’ data. This data represents the voices of these educators in narrative, thus emphasising the importance of the personal perspective and interpretation. This allowed this research to understand the subjective experience, motivation and actions of the participants.
The Literature review informs the questions asked during the interview. The interview was used as a tool for gathering information regarding values, attitudes and beliefs of participants. Each interview was transcribed, translated (when response was given in Maltese) and categorised according to Mezirow’s ten stages. Excerpts from each stage were further processed to generate themes. The themes were later streamlined and an acceptable interpretive framework was created. Each interview excerpt was then analysed through the framework.
Once all interviews were coded, detailed narratives were written. These narratives are meant to help the reader reflect on the process of transformative learning. It underscores those factors highlighted by the participants, which helped bring about both personal and professional transformative learning.
This research has identified that individual constructs are strongly determined by an individual’s personal learning characteristics. Awareness of these personal learning characteristics (self-knowledge) helped educators assess their practice and understand how their personal characteristics were determining their approach to teaching and affecting their interpersonal relationships with students and colleagues.
This research showed that transformative learning is a mutually interdependent experience. Individual transformation amounts to, and is influenced by, the collective transformation. This study highlighted the role of the school community in the pursuit of personal transformation.
Yet another important finding of this research is the importance of a shared language of possibility. Through a shared language, a learning community can create a dialogic environment through which intentions, beliefs and interventions can be shared among the professional community. This research accentuates the importance of a shared language as a means of articulating a change in perspective.
The study identified three main agents of change. The Let Me Learn team, as promoters and experts of this particular learning process; the teachers, who internalised the process and applied it to their practice; and the school’s senior management team, who internalised the Process, positioned it into the larger vision of the school and created a conducive environment through which the whole school community was empowered to take responsibility to bring about change in practice.
A number of implications emerge from this study that could inform policy on teacher professional learning. A major implication concerns the importance of a shared language – a language that reflects the shared values and ideological position of the community. Such language frames the learning process, makes learning visible for teachers to be able to respond effectively with strategies that respect each learner’s learning preference and makes learning visible to the learner himself.
Another implication from this study arises from the finding that the transformative learning process of any individual educator and effectively of the whole school community, goes beyond the effectiveness and limitations of any one professional development programme. True and deep-seated transformative learning comes from within the individual educator. This statement has serious repercussions on any professional development programme that aims to aid participants in their quest to transform their practice.
This study also emphasised the importance that any professional development needs to be seated in the local experience and needs of the school community. Any attempts at developing comprehensive, nation-wide projects with pre-packaged approaches, are doomed to fail. What this research has shown is that for effective professional development, the identified outcomes need to correspond to the local needs of the school, rather than the national guidelines, detached from the realities of the particular school.
Finally, this study accentuated the importance of incorporating mentoring support in any professional development proposal. Delivery of information and skills without follow-up tend to lead to superficial application. Transformative learning presupposes a period of shared reflection on practice and collegial mediation of ideas through contact between teachers and their leaders and on-the-job support from their professional development mentors.

Vi har gjort en socialpsykologisk undersökning där vi har studerat barnavårdscentralssjuksköterskornas erfarenheter av meningsfullt arbete i barnavårdscentralen. Vårt syfte med studien är att öka förståelse kring hur BVC-sjuksköterskorna går tillväga för att känna arbetet meningsfullt och samtidigt mår bra. Resultatet visar att meningsskapande har en stor betydelse för sjuksköterskorna när det gäller deras välbefinnande. Den visar att sjuksköterskorna känner meningsfullhet i sitt arbete när de som person och deras roll stöder varandra och när det finns harmoni mellan dessa två. Sjuksköterskorna mår bra av det och arbetet flyter på utan ansträngning, de vill hjälpa och det hör till deras roll att hjälpa och på det sättet stöder deras roll och de som personer varandra. Det kan uppstå konflikter ifall deras roll och person inte stöder varandra. Sekretesslagen är ett exempel på något som kan hindra sjuksköterskorna från att hjälpa och detta bidrar till en konflikt mellan sjuksköterskornas personlighet och roll. En sådan konflikt kan leda till att sjuksköterskorna inte mår bra och de kan bli känslomässigt engagerade så att de känner sig förvirrade och frustrerade. Det gör att de inte kan hitta en mening i det de gör och arbetet upplevs som tungt och meningslöst. De upplever att de inte kan hjälpa föräldrarna som utreds när de inte vet varför de utreds. De känner att harmoni uppkommer ibland av sig själv och ibland försöker de själv åstadkomma denna harmoni på olika sätt. En sjuksköterska umgås med vänner, andra utvecklas kunskapsmässigt o.s.v. / We have done a social psychological study where we have studied the child health nurses' experiences of meaningful work in child care center. Our purpose of this study is to increase understanding of how the child health clinic nurses go about to feel the work meaningful and feel good at the same time. The results show that the creation of meaning is of great importance for the nurses in their welfare. It shows that the nurses feel meaningfulness in their work when they as a person and as a role support each other and when there is harmony between the two. The nurses feel well and work flows in without effort, the nurses want to help and it´s a part of the role to help and in this way role and person supports each other. There may be conflicts if they do not. Secrecy law is an example of something that may prevent nurses from helping and the law contributes to a conflict between the nurses’ personality and their role. Such conflict can lead to the nurses do not feel well and they can become emotionally involved so that they feel confused and frustrated. This means that they cannot find a meaning in what they do. The work is perceived as heavy and useless and they feel that they cannot help parents who are investigated when they do not know why they are being investigated. Harmony occurs sometimes by itself and sometimes the nurses try themselves to achieve this harmony in different ways. A nurse socializes with friends, others develop their knowledge etc.

traditional analysis for a discursive approach based on the concepts of the functional linguistic
of the prototipicity, speech transitivity (Hopper and Thompson, 1980), discursive relevance
and textual-discursive function (Matos, 2008). The data analysed were extracted of the corpus
composed of three volumes of narratives narrated by Luiza Tereza, being this corpus part of
the acquis of the Paraibana popular culture present in the NUPPO (Núcleo de Pesquisa e
Documentação da Cultura Popular/Centre of Research and Documentation of the Popular
Culture). It has been found that the study of the grammatical categories is not valid if made in
an isolate way without observing, for example, speech transitivity that signal the syntactic
function involved. It is important to consider the prototypical function so that the analysis be
done on what is regular and in doing so the dimension of the results obtained is more
comprehensive, as the regular is more frequent, in other words, more recurring, facilitating the
more efficient comprehension as a function of the study. It was also confirmed the hypothesis
that the pronoun me listed for analysis is part of the narratives of high transitivity level, being
more to figure than to background. The prototypical function of the pronoun me is the
function of the object, being this direct or indirect and in both high discursive transitivity is
presented. / Este trabalho trata dos pronomes oblíquos o(s), a(s), me, te, partindo de uma análise sintática
tradicional para uma abordagem discursiva fundamentada nos conceitos de prototipicidade,
transitividade oracional (Hopper e Thompson, 1980), relevância discursiva e função textualdiscursiva
oriundos da Linguística funcional (Matos, 2008). Os dados analisados foram
do extraídos do corpus composto de três volumes de narrativas narrados por Luzia Tereza,
sendo este corpus parte do acervo da cultura popular paraibana presente no NUPPO (Núcleo
de Pesquisa e Documentação da Cultura Popular). Verificou-se que o estudo das categorias
gramáticas não é válido se feito isoladamente, sem observar, por exemplo, a transitividade
oracional que sinaliza a função sintática envolvida. É importante considerar a função
prototípica para que a análise seja feita em torno do que é regular e, assim, a dimensão dos
resultados obtidos é mais abrangente, visto que o regular é mais frequente, ou seja, mais
recorrente, facilitando a compreensão mais eficaz da função em estudo. Também foi
confirmada a hipótese de que o pronome me elencado para a análise está presente nas
narrativas em um nível de alta transitividade, estando mais para figura do que para fundo. A
função sintática prototípica desse pronome é a de objeto, sendo este direto ou indireto e, em
ambos os casos, apresenta alta transitividade discursiva.

Bases génétiques de la résistance vis-à-vis des nématodes du genre Meloidogyne chez le piment / Genetic bases of resistance to root-knot nematodes, Meloidogyne spp., in pepperBarbary, Arnaud 10 December 2014 (has links)
Les nématodes à galles (Meloidogyne spp.) sont des pathogènes cosmopolites extrêmement polyphages. L’emploi de la majorité des nématicides chimiques étant désormais interdit, la meilleure alternative repose sur l’utilisation de gènes majeurs de résistance (gènes R). Cependant, il existe un risque de contournement de ceux-ci et les ressources génétiques en termes de gènes R sont limitées. Une gestion qui permette de pérenniser l’utilisation de ces ressources d’intérêt agronomique est donc primordiale. Me1 et Me3 sont deux gènes R à large spectre du piment actuellement utilisés dans les programmes de sélection. La confrontation vis-à-vis de M. incognita de différents génotypes possédant l’un de ces deux gènes a montré que (1) le fond génétique de la plante joue un rôle clé sur l’efficacité de ces gènes R, (2) il n’existe pas d’effet du dosage d’allèles pour ces gènes R. Suite à ces résultats, une recherche de loci à caractère quantitatif (QTLs) a été réalisée afin d’identifier et de localiser des facteurs de résistance partielle susceptibles d’expliquer les différences observées entre les différents fonds génétiques. L’étude de tels facteurs vis-à-vis de M. incognita, M. arenaria et M. javanica, les trois principales espèces de nématodes à galles, a mis en évidence quatre nouveaux QTLs. Tous sont regroupés sur le chromosome P1 du piment, sauf un efficace vis-à-vis de M. javanica situé sur le chromosome P9. C’est la première fois que des facteurs de résistance aux nématodes à galles sont localisés sur le chromosome P1. Ce travail ouvre de nouvelles perspectives quant à la création de nouvelles variétés avec un potentiel accru en termes de résistance aux Meloidogyne. / Root-knot nematodes (RKNs), Meloidogyne spp., are extremely polyphagous plant parasites worldwide. Since the use of most chemical nematicides is being prohibited, genetic resistance is an efficient alternative way to protect crops against these pests. However, nematode populations proved able to breakdown plant resistance, and genetic resources in terms of resistance genes (R-genes) are limited. Sustainable management of these valuable resources is thus a key point of R-gene durability. In pepper, Me1 and Me3 are two dominant major R-genes, currently used in breeding programs to control M. arenaria, M. incognita and M. javanica, the three main RKN species. Challenging these two genes in different genetic backgrounds against M. incognita demonstrated that (1) the efficiency of the R-genes in reducing the reproductive potential of RKNs is strongly affected by the plant genetic background, (2) the allelic status of the R-genes has no effect on nematode reproduction. According to these first results, a QTL analysis was performed to identify and to localize partial resistance factors against RKNs which could explain the differences observed between the genetic backgrounds. Focusing on M. incognita, M. arenaria and M. javanica, four new major QTLs were localized. They are all regrouped on pepper chromosome P1 except one QTL efficient against M. javanica, which was located on pepper chromosome P9. The cluster on chromosome P1, regrouping most of the newly discovered resistance factors, is described for the first time with respect to RKN resistance. As a conclusion, this work should contribute to the breeding of new pepper varieties with a high level of resistance against RKNs.

Previous issue date: 2010-09-02 / O presente estudo aborda o modelo Simples Nacional como diferencial de tributação aplicado as microempresas e empresas de pequeno porte com a finalidade de garantir maiores perspectivas de consolidação desses negócios no mercado, a partir de um tratamento tributário diferenciado. Tal mudança deu-se a partir das determinações do novo Código Tributário em vigor por meio da Lei Complementar nO. 123, da Microempresa (ME) e da Empresa de Pequeno Porte (EPP). Trata-se de um conjunto de normas que determinam um tratamento simplificado e favorecido aos pequenos negócios, conhecida no âmbito tributário como Simples Nacional ou 'Super Simples'. O estudo objetiva analisar a relevância do tratamento tributário diferenciado como forma de estimular o desenvolvimento desse segmento na economia nacional. Adotei como percurso metodológico para o estudo a pesquisa bibliográfica e documental, complementado por um estudo de caso realizado em empresa de pequeno porte na cidade de Belém. Verifica-se que a implementação do modelo Simples Nacional ainda está em fase de experimentações, não sendo possível ainda perceber vantagens significativas no desenvolvimento das microempresas e empresas de pequeno porte, contudo, é possível que se avance no sentido de minimizar as situações de informalidade. Conclui-se que mesmo com o tratamento tributário diferenciado aplicado as microempresas e empresas de pequeno porte, o Simples Nacional expressa vantagens e desvantagens para este setor produtivo.

Narratives of young people living with a diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (CFS/ME)Solomons, Wendy January 2016 (has links)
CFS/ME (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) is a distressing and potentially debilitating condition. It can also be understood as a contested condition, surrounded by controversy about its nature, causes and treatment. Previous research indicates that those affected experience this climate of contestation as a troubling and discrediting assault, not only on the nature of their condition, but also on their identities. However, little attention has been paid to the voices of young people living with CFS/ME. This thesis extends a relatively small literature in new directions, focusing a constructionist, discursive narrative lens on the accounts of ten young people (aged 13-18) living with a diagnosis of CFS/ME. Narratives constructed during repeated interviews over a year, and drawing on multimodal materials collected by participants over that period, were analysed for their content, structure and performance, with reference to the local and broader contexts of their production. This analysis demonstrates that teenagers construct rich, multi-layered narratives with the potential to enhance understanding of their situation and broader features of the social world. As they speak of the onset of illness, attempts to live with enduring, unpredictable symptoms and their psychosocial consequences, and (for some) the possibility of 'moving on' from the worst of illness, this analysis throws new light on how young people's narratives can be understood as simultaneously constructing the condition ('M.E.') and the identities of those involved ('me' and others), in ways that engage with, reflect and resist prevailing discourses. It is argued that the discursive contexts of CFS/ME and adolescence raise particular challenges for young people as they try to construct credible narratives that convey the full extent of their difficulties, while resisting stigmatising identities (eg, as 'complaining', 'lazy' or otherwise 'not normal'). This analysis highlights implications for them, their families and those who work professionally with them; and for the ongoing social construction of CFS/ME in young people.

Due to the variety of plataforms and operating systems, which exhibit different available resources and user interaction methods, applications need to be provided in different versions.
As a result, users work with the same application on different devices, at different locations and at different times of the day.
Facing these user's new possibilities, applications need support to allow users to easily switch from one device to another and resume their tasks at the same point where they stopped.
This work introduces a middleware architecture that can be used by web applications to acquire the interaction session migration capability.
Thus, web applications' interaction sessions, and their related data, can be migrated from one device to another in an automatic and seamless way.
A middleware platform was designed and implemented in order to evaluate the proposed approach.
Also, it is evaluated the effect of transfer mechanisms on the handoff process of the interaction session application. / O mercado oferece vários dispositivos com capacidade de processamento suficiente para executar aplicações que anteriormente eram apenas suportadas por máquinas mais robustas, como os computadores de mesa.
Tais aplicações possuem diferentes versões finais para cada plataforma e sistema operacional, pois os recursos como capacidade de processamento, armazenamento e periféricos mudam e a interação com o usuário varia de acordo com esses recursos.
Essa diversidade possibilita usuários trabalharem com a mesma aplicação em diferentes dispositivos, em diferentes locais e durante diferentes períodos do dia.
Com essas possibilidades oferecidas ao usuário, as aplicações necessitam de suporte para que os usuários possam facilmente mudar de um dispositivo para outro e continuar suas tarefas no mesmo ponto no qual pararam.
As aplicações Web estão crescendo em popularidade entre os usuários e também podem se beneficiar do suporte para mudar o dispositivo no qual interagem com o usuário.
Este trabalho apresenta a arquitetura de um middleware por meio do qual aplicações Web podem adquirir a capacidade de migrar sessões de interação com o usuário.
Como resultado, as sessões de interação das aplicações Web, juntamente com os dados relacionados a elas, podem ser transferidas de um dispositivo para outro de forma automática e transparente.
Uma implementação da proposta do middleware foi feita a fim de avaliar a abordagem.
Também é avaliado o efeito da escolha do mecanismo de transferência para o envido dos dados relacionados a sessão de interação da aplicação.

This dissertation aims at analyzing the novel Fazes-me falta, by Inês Pedrosa, in terms of its narrative composition, which is configured by discursive
sequences of two characters who are also the narrators (one of them being dead and the other, alive), who engage in a presumed dialogue. Furthermore, our purpose is to
analyze time and space in the narrative construction, two elements which stand out from the text, since the female voice is dead and occupies a temporal spot and an
existential limbo, whereas the male voice suffers the absence resulting from the disappearance of his friend. Time works as a thread in the narrative, and along with
space, it provides the appropriate ambiance for the dialogue between life and death of the two characters, thus supporting the narrative composed by the discourses of
these two voices. / Esta dissertação tem por objetivo analisar o romance Fazes-me falta, de Inês Pedrosa, no que diz respeito a sua composição narrativa que é formada por sequências discursivas de duas personagens narradoras, uma morta e outra viva, que constroem um suposto diálogo. Além disso, nosso objetivo também é analisar o tempo e o espaço na construção da narrativa, uma vez que esses dois elementos
destacam-se no texto, pois a voz feminina está morta e ocupa uma prega temporal e um limbo existencial, enquanto a voz masculina sofre a ausência do desaparecimento de sua amiga. O tempo funciona como fio condutor da narrativa, e
em conjunto com o espaço compõem a ambientação adequada para o diálogo entre a vida e a morte das duas personagens, dando suporte à narrativa composta pelos
discursos das duas vozes.

The aim of this bachelor study was to examine and analyze if there were any difference in how Dagens Nyheter framed sexual crimes before and after the metoo movements peak in 2017. Framing theory was used to categorize different frames in the reporting of sexual crimes in the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter. The research question was: which frames are the most common in Dagens Nyheters framing of sexual crimes and how common are these frames? Is there any difference in what frames appear in Dagens Nyheter before and after the metoo movements peak in 2017? With a quantitative content analysis I could examine how often the frames were used by Dagens Nyheter and if it was any different after the metoo movements peak in 2017. A total of 869 articles were analyzed. 240 articles in 2014, 322 articles in 2017 and 307 articles in 2020. By using framing theory, ten frames were identified. “police report and legal process”, “sexual offenses linked to religion”, “sexual offenses as a societal problem”, “sexual offense legislation and criticism”, “men with power”, “fact about sexual offenses”, “sexual offenses as a metaphor”, “victim of sexual offenses”, “accused of sexual offenses” and “other”. The result of the examine showed that the most used frame was “police report and legal process”. In the period of 2014 the second most used frame was “sexual offense legislation and criticism”. In the period of 2017 the second most used frame was “victim of sexual offenses” and in the period of 2020 the second most used frame was “sexual offenses as a societal problem”. The biggest difference before and after metoo movement that were found was the frame “accused of sexual offenses”. In 2014 it was not found at all while in 2020 it was one of the more common frames.
