A Study Of Southwest Florida High School Reading Teachers And The Implmentation of Scientifically Based Reading Research InstructionHarper, Virginia 01 January 2006 (has links)
The literacy mandates of the No Child Left Behind Act (2001) swiftly and directly have an impact on reading teachers. The literacy directives of the act constitute a paradigm shift in reading reform, especially at the secondary level. Literacy directives require state and district level administrator's to focus on secondary reading teacher pre and in service training. Effecive secondary reading teachers must be well versed in the foundation sof Scientifically Based Reading Research. Florida is among the first states to implement six comptencies of professional development that leads to endorsement in the teaching of reading. Florida teachers of secondary reading are required to earn a reading endorsement. Professional development founded in Scientifically Based Reading Research is a knowledge-driven process. The process requires teachers to be actively engaged in action research that links theory to practice. School districts are to train teachers to implement recommended strategic teaching tools in their classrooms. learning the teaching strategies of reading requires educators to commit time and mental energy to complete a robust professional development track With concern for the success of reading teachers, this qualitative study utilized case studies and the interpretive approach to investigate the question: Will secondary reading teachers implement Scientifically Based Reading Research in the classroom? The research examined the attitudes, reactions, and classroom practices of eight teachers who were assigned to teach secondary reading. data gathering spanned two semesters and an intervening summer in an urban Southwest Florida school district. The results of this dissertation are encouraging but mixed. The researcher discovered that secondary teachers of reading who experienced at least one class of reading professional development were discovering a climate of collaboration, a body of research, and inconstant implementation success. The research also uncovered teacher perspectives of the negative factors of mandated professional development: time pressures, curriculum frustrations, needs for follow-up collaborations and assumptions about administrator neglect.

Title of the thesis: Characterization of training of skibobbers in Jablonec nad Jizerou Aim of the thesis: The aim of the thesis is to characterize a training plan throughout a whole year, to learn the training difficulties during various periods and to show differences and similarities with training plans of skiers. Methods: Search of literature focused on training of skiers a learning of biomechanical aspects of ski-driving. There is a very few pieces of literature dealing with skibobs. Therefore most of the information is gain from trainers in Jablonec nad Jizerou, especially from the current representation trainer. The training plans of skier and skibobber are completed from available sources (interview, notes). Training analysis and their differences were done by deductive analysis. Results: Characterization of training units of skibobber and skier is very similar. The differences were found in training composition where in case of a skibobber there is more emphasis laid on strengthening his or her arms. This kind of training is also more frequent than in case of a skier. Thanks to more bicycles training and motion activities for strengthening arms. Skibbobers have also more frequent participation in various races. However, this depends on individual efficiency. Key words: skiers, skibobbers,...

January 2014 (has links)
A análise seguiu as três etapas do método Regressivo-Progressivo proposto por Lefèbvre (1978) / Abstract: This research was proposed to analyze the recent changes in the commerce and consumption space through the Public Markets, which used to follow and have been captured by the society, keeping their metamorphosis through the time. We chose the metropolis of São Paulo, because it is a city that, besides to be considered the place of the genesis of the industrialization process, it is also the financial center of Brazil, that is, a place which passed and passes through spatial updates. To this end, questionnaires were applied and interviews were performed, among other methodological procedures, in order to establish a Public Markets profile that was able to assist in a better understanding of the current reality. We sought to rescue, through a regression on the history, relevant facts about those commercial forms that got lost over time. Our historical view dates the early twentieth century, where the first Public Market appears still in operation, until the implementation of the last market in the second half of the 1990s. Moreover, it is a period in which industrialization gains strength, along with urbanization, brings important changes to the city of Sao Paulo. The analysis followed the three stages of the regressiveprogressive method proposed by Lefebvre (1978) / Mestre

Abstract: This research work in Master's level consists in the case study of teachers graduates of the licenciature course in physics from Unicamp, working in public schools of São Paulo. The research is qualitative and is supported on a referential of the psychoanalytic field - the unconscious discourse of the teacher in analogy to unconscious discourses of Lacan. The text is about the science teacher's pedagogic practice on the contemporary school, so it brings in a scope a historical rescue of the pedagogical models present in physics teaching from the early twentieth century to the present day, engage in a dialogue between thinkers postmodernists and their critics. Then, with the intent to understand how a person becomes a teacher at this school, we bring the case of two physics teachers - Raul and Rodolfo - involved with the profession and working in basic education in the public network of São Paulo. Through observation and interviews with the teachers we brought a problematization of the teacher's knowledge that they mobilize and the subjective references that seem to constrain the conduct of their practices. / Mestrado / Ensino e Práticas Culturais / Mestre em Educação

[en] ONLINE TRAINING OF NEURAL METWORKS: METHODOLOGY FOR TIME VARYING ENVIRONMENTS / [pt] TREINAMENTO CONTÍNUO EM REDES NEURAIS: UM TRATAMENTO PARA AMBIENTES VARIANTES NO TEMPONITZI MESQUITA ROEHL 26 June 2006 (has links)
mesmas. / [en] The main issue when dealing with non-stationary processes
is related to the requirement of fast adaptation while
simultaneously preventing catastrophic damage to
previously learned behavior. In this thesis, two on-line
learning techniques, one for supervised and the other for
unsupervised artificial neural networks, are proposed.
A new supervised procedure to continuously adjust weights
in a multi layered perceptrons neural networks is
proposed. This methodology is tailored to be used in time
varying (or non-stationary) models, eliminating the
necessity of retraining. The main objective is to keep the
error related to the latest income data within a pre
established tolerance, while maximizing the information
incorporated up to that point. By choosing a balance
parameter, the designer is able to decide on the relevance
that should be attributed to the new data. Non-linear
programming techniques are used in order to properly solve
this trade off optimization problem and on-line calculate
the new weight set. Numerical results for real and non-
real data are presented, illustrating the potentiality and
properties of the proposed approach.
A modular Fuzzy ART model for hierarchical categorization
of data is proposed in such a manner that each module
groups the prototypes of the categories developed in the
previous module or layer. In this way, the hierarchical
levels of successively higher layers learn a more general
pattern from the input data while the lower layers learn
more specific categories. Interesting properties of the
component Fuzzy ART network also apply to this new
hierarchical network model like, fast and stable learning
of arbitrary sequences of analogical or binary input
patterns and the dynamic creation of categories for new
input patterns presentation. Some theoretical results
related to properties of this new approach for clustering
applications are presented, as well as some illustrative
numerical results.
