Employee Perceptions of Effective Training Strategies

Satterfield, Stephen Lindsay 01 January 2018 (has links)
The following study was undertaken because there was a need to establish whether training information at a local guarantor was relevant to employees and clients. Utilizing transformative learning theory, the purpose of this case study was to explore what the guarantor's employees and management require for new account advisors by conducting open-ended interviews with the guarantor's employees. The guarantor's director secured collections contracts and a long-term enrollment advising contract with a new online university. For the guarantor to have trained account advisors, managers must know what kind of training is necessary. Secondly, the university enrollment is growing, and that could necessitate more advisors to address the increase in student population. During the data collection phase, 9 guarantor employees participated in interviews. The guarantor's managers and employees were asked what training the guarantor requires of new account advisors, what training new hires need, and what training methods should be employed. Thematic coding, content analysis, and triangulation were used to analyze the data. Themes from the results included participatory training, experience required, and customer service. Based on the data analysis, a position paper was created to recommend role-playing, shadowing, and other training methods. The recommendations were made to ensure training and learning are ongoing, relevant to the assigned tasks, and that the guarantor's managers ask clients to play an active role in account advisor training. Social change can be achieved with a more engaged management, a staff armed with relevant knowledge and support, improved skillsets, and a guarantor that can better respond to client needs.

Emotional-Social Intelligence: Development During Online and On-Campus Holistic Healthcare Programs

Boute, Bradley J. 01 January 2017 (has links)
As with traditional healthcare providers, emotional-social intelligence (ESI) plays a role in the holistic practitioner-client relationship. It is important to determine if students in holistic healthcare programs increase their ESI, and subsequently better serve their clients. The purpose of this quantitative, quasi-experimental study was to determine if online education can develop students' ESI at levels similar to that of traditional programs. This study is based on the theory of ESI and transformative learning theory. The sample consisted of 95 students in an online program and 61 in a traditional program. Multiple linear regression, ANCOVA, and Pearson Correlation's were used to explore the relationships between the independent variables professional standing, program delivery method, program progress, and number of classes with elements consistent with transformative learning theory, and the dependent variable emotional-social intelligence, as measured by the EQ-i 2.0 survey. The results of the study revealed no significant differences in the development of ESI between online and traditional methodologies, except within the self-expression category, for which online was higher. The number of transformative classes taken had no effect on the dependent variable. The positive social change implications of this study include a better understanding of the development of ESI for holistic healthcare, which could lead to a greater potential for success, as well as being better able to contribute to the stability of their communities through meeting the needs of those seeking their services. In addition, determining the relationship between transformative theories of learning and ESI development may assist in creating courses better suited to increasing students' ESI.

Transforming the Soul of Education: Sustainability at the Center of Teaching and Learning in Secondary Schools

Kane, Thomas Eugene 01 January 2011 (has links)
Humanity is facing problems on a scale never before encountered. This dissertation traces the roots of modern culture's destructive relationship to the planet with its habits of over-consumption and exceeding the limits of the planet's ecological systems. Educational institutions are embedded in and replicate an unsustainable culture. As educational leaders, we need to challenge a system that is morally and ecologically bankrupt while providing a path toward sustainability at the center of teaching and learning. Using a narrative scholarship approach and theoretical frameworks drawn from ecological thinking and place-based learning, this dissertation provides models for transforming secondary education. While critiquing the current model of high school, this dissertation argues that education for sustainability needs to be not only about curriculum change, but a change in the way we think about schooling, the buildings in which we educate, the food we provide and the relationships between schools and the communities in which they exist. It directly addresses social studies curriculum and offers a way of examining career pathways through the lens of education for sustainability.

Transformativt ledarskap i en digitaliserad värld : En kvalitativ studie om användning av digitala verktyg och följarnas upplevelse av ett digitalt transformativt ledarskap / Transformative leadership in a digitized world : A qualitative study on the use of digital tools and the followers' experience of digital transformative leadership

Moani, Arvin, Gustafsson, Anton January 2023 (has links)

The First Interactive Medium : How a Player Can Change a Game & How a Game Can Change a Player

Taherkhani, Kiarash January 2023 (has links)
This thesis explores the transformative potential of the co-authorship dynamic between game developers and players in The Squared Circle, an abstract video game designed to facilitate personality development. Drawing inspiration from existentialist philosophy, psychotherapy, and game design, the study examines the intricate interplay between gameplay mechanics, narrative depth, and psychological exploration. Employing a research-through-design methodology, the researcher analyzes The Squared Circle’s elements through psychological, philosophical, and ludological literature. The game's initial focus on engaging gameplay mechanics evolved to incorporate textual significance and symbolic play, inspired by Carl Jung's theory of Individuation. Through playtesting, observations, and interviews, the study investigates the psychological and philosophical effects of the game. Players engage in symbolic representation and journaling, delving into their unconscious aspects and exploring personal experiences within the game world. The co-authorship dynamic fosters introspection expands self-understanding, and invites transformative experiences. The findings highlight the significance of journaling and symbolic play as tools for personal growth and self-expression within the game. Players navigate the symbolic landscape, uncover hidden meanings, and co-create their own narrative, leading to increased self-awareness and psychological integration. This research contributes to understanding games as a medium for personal transformation and psychological exploration. The study underscores the importance of co-authorship, journaling, and symbolic representation in designing games that facilitate introspection, meaningful experiences, and the development of the player's personality.

Exploring the Role of Eco-Communities in Fostering Environmental Stewardship : A Study of Volunteer Tourism at Cloughjordan Eco-Village

Kress, Maximilian January 2023 (has links)
In recent years, there has been a shift in interest in travel, toward an increasing interest in sustainable travel and alternative forms of travel. As a result, there is also an interest in research studying these alternative travel concepts. Therefore, this qualitative study looks at experiences in ecovillages, focusing on volunteer workers. It examines the effects of the ecovillages that influence these volunteers to become environmental stewards. For this purpose, the concept of place attachment, as the connection to the place and the people within the ecovillage, is used. As well as the concept of transformative learning, i.e., the change of views and orientations of the participants of the learning program. To get a better overview of the context of the case study, the literature on voluntourism and voluntourism in the global north (due to the location of the case study), as well as on communities and eco-communities will be examined. The case study is an ecovillage in Ireland, located in Cloughjordan, the middle of Ireland. There, 11 in-depth interviews and observations were conducted, and the volunteers were interviewed about their experiences and their time in the ecovillage. The results of this study suggest three ways in which volunteers are influenced by their ecovillage experiences to become environmental stewards. On the one hand, this is the case due to the recognition of the importance of the developed soft skills. As this is learning for oneself and improving communication with other people. Furthermore, by learning with and from each other, the volunteers are led to take stewardship actions. Finally, it is also the community itself that manages to implement stewardship among the volunteers through the way of life and togetherness and the high value of environmental actions through place attachment.

Fritidshemmets arbete med klimatförändringar  : Leisure-time centers working with climate change / Leisure-time centers working with climate change

Svensdotter, Malin, Sundberg Plahn, Josephine January 2023 (has links)
In 2015, the UN member states signed an overall vision of achieving sustainable development with the sub-goal of solving the climate crisis. The IPCC (SMHI 2023) report shows that the problems are serious, it is urgent when it comes to human impact on climate change. Schools need to teach in different ways to increase students' awareness and critical thinking about climate change. The purpose of the study was to find out how educators and teachers in leisure-time centers works with teaching about climate change and what they need in terms of knowledge. We used transformative theory to visualize conditions and limitations that societal changes face in the field of sustainable development (Boström et al. 2018). We have based on Boström et al. (2018) dimensions institutional structures, social practices and conflict perspectives in our analysis. We conducted digital qualitative interviews with educators and teachers at various leisure-time centers. We saw that it differs in how to work with climate change. Everyone felt that the leisure-time centers has an important role in teaching students about climate change and that transformative learning benefits from leisure pedagogy in everyday life. There is a demand for further education and there is also a worrying dimension to teaching about climate change, according to teachers and educators.
