Free to Be Me: The Relationship Between the True Self, Rejection Sensitivity, and Use of Online Dating Sites

Hance, Margaret A., Blackhart, Ginette, Dew, Megan 04 July 2018 (has links)
Prior research (Blackhart et al., 2014) found that rejection-sensitive individuals are more likely to use online dating sites. The purpose of the current research was to explain the relationship between rejection sensitivity and online dating site usage. Study 1 examined whether true self mediated the relation between rejection sensitivity and online dating. Study 2 sought to replicate the findings of Study 1 and to examine whether self-disclosure moderated the relationship between true self and online dating in the mediation model. Results replicated those found by Blackhart et al. and also found that true self mediated the relationship between rejection sensitivity and online dating site usage. These findings suggest that rejection-sensitive individuals feel they can more easily represent their “true” selves in online environments, such as online dating sites, which partially explains why they are more likely to engage in online dating.

On-Chip True Random Number Generation in Nanometer Cmos

Suresh, Vikram Belur 01 January 2012 (has links) (PDF)
On-chip True Random Number Generator (TRNG) forms an integral part of a number of cryptographic systems in multi-core processors, communication networks and RFID. TRNG provides random keys, device id and seed for Pseudo Random Number Generators (PRNG). These circuits, harnessing physical random variations like thermal noise or stray electromagnetic waves are ideally expected to generate random bits with very high entropy and zero correlation. But, progression to advance semiconductor manufacturing processes has brought about various challenges in the design of TRNG. Increasing variations in the fabrication process and the sensitivity of transistors to operating conditions like temperature and supply voltage have significant effect on the efficiency of TRNG designed in sub-micron technologies. Poorly designed random number generators also provide an avenue for attackers to break the security of a cryptographic system. Process variation and operating conditions may be used as effective tools of attack against TRNG. This work makes a comprehensive study of the effect of process variation on metastability-based TRNG designed in deep sub-micron technology. Furthermore, the effect of operating temperature and the supply voltage on the performance of TRNG is also analyzed. To mitigate these issues we study entropy extraction mechanisms based both on algorithmic approach and circuit tuning and compare these techniques based on their tolerance to process variation and the energy overhead for correction. We combine the two v approaches to efficiently perform self-calibration, using a hybrid of algorithmic correction and circuit tuning to compensate the effect of variations. The proposed technique provides a fair trade-off between the degree of entropy extraction and the overhead in terms of area and energy, introducing minimal correlation in the output of the TRNG. Besides the study of the effect of process variation and operating conditions on the TRNG, we also propose to study the possible attack models on a TRNG. Finally, we propose a probabilistic approach to design and analysis of TRNG using a stochastic model of the circuit operation and incorporating the random source in thermal noise. All analysis is done for 45nm technology using the NCSU PDK transistor models. The simulation platform is developed using HSPICE and a Perl based automation flow.

True crime documentaries: production teams’actions to appeal to consumers

Santin, Philippine, Moretti, Ann-li January 2023 (has links)
The true crime genre was invented by Truman Capote in 1965 with his work In Cold Blood.Since that day, the amount of true crime content and the number of consumers have continuedto grow. This type of content can be found in many different forms such as books, movies, series, TV shows, podcasts and more. However, it sometimes attracts a lot of criticism due totheir sensitive and sometimes even exploitative nature. The purpose of this thesis is to explore how true crime documentary producers operate tomake their content appealing to consumers. Here, we focus on true crime documentariesbroadcast on television, streaming and podcast platforms, all of which are aimed at Frenchconsumers. This thesis is based on an interpretivist philosophical approach and on a qualitative researchmethod. We interviewed French individuals working for production of true crimedocumentaries. Our interview was based on three main themes: production, ethics, andpost-production marketing. The goal is to get their opinions, knowledge and experiencesabout the production but also the promotion of attractive true crime documentaries and howethical aspects are considered. Specifically, we asked them about the techniques and toolsused in the creation and promotion of true crime content while taking into account the ethicalexpectations of consumers. This study contributes to previous studies from a theoretical and practical point of view. Froma theoretical point of view, our results have allowed us to understand the impact of thestrategies used by production teams to attract consumers. From a practical point of view, itcan help to better understand the consumption of these contents and related strategies. It canalso be used by future producers who plan to make a true crime documentary. It can also helpbroadcasters, that is to say television, streaming platforms and podcasts, to better understandthe actions of production teams.

Etik och true crime : En narratologisk analys av nya aktörer på podd-marknaden

Johansson, Hedda, Rosengren Hallin, Leo January 2024 (has links)

Personality Variables Associated With True Crime Viewers

Succarotte, Mazzarina 01 January 2024 (has links) (PDF)
True crime has become a stimulating genre that fascinates viewers with its captivating mystery, murder, and violence. Documentaries and podcasts spotlight the cruel occurrences based on real incidents. This study incorporates clinical and social psychology to determine personality traits associated with true crime consumption. Participants were asked to complete a survey that included questions about their true crime viewership and The Dark Triad Scale, which measures psychopathy, narcissism, and Machiavellianism. The results of this study reveal that true crime viewers possess significantly higher levels of narcissism and Machiavellianism but not psychopathy. This research may contribute to understanding the links between personality characteristics and attraction to violent acts.

Sistemas de controle distribuídos: desenvolvimento de uma aplicação para veículos submarinos não tripulados. / Networked control systems: development of application for unmanned underwater vehicles.

Grotkowsky, Marco Antonio 20 September 2012 (has links)
This work studies the networked control system of the unmanned underwater vehicle LAURS considering a resource-constrained computer system. At first, delays sources and effects are discussed. The LAURS model is obtained and used for comparison of delay compensation strategies found in the literature. A simulator for the LAURS control system is developed with the aid of a Matlab Toolbox that emulates timing aspects of the limited operating system and network. Considering the simulation results, including a case scenario, it is argued that despite improving performance, the control system with delay compensation strategies remains unpredictable and prone to fail. Therefore, it is not recommended for critical systems such as the unmanned vehicle LAURS, even with the reduced costs of a resource-constrained computer system. The simulation results are statistically validated.
