Creation in the Image of God: Human Uniqueness From the Akan Religious Anthropology to the Renewal of Christian Anthropology

Antwi, Eric Baffoe 04 May 2017 (has links)
The Judeo-Christian belief, based on the bible, is that “God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them” (Gen. 1: 27). This dissertation explores the Akan understanding of the human person to shed further light on creation of human beings in the image of God and to understand and demonstrate the corresponding uniqueness of the human being among God's creatures. With the help of the Akan context, we note that every human being possesses a spark of God. God, who is relational, shares relationality with human beings.
Through the use of Akan anthropology, we identify creation “in the image of God” to mean that every human being is created through the agency of parents, who also share in the image of God through their birth. Our interpretation is that the okra is the soul and is considered the “spark of God” in the human being. The honhom, which refers to the breath of life, is treated as the breath that God breathed into human beings to make a human a living being (Gen 2:7). We equated the breath of God with the Holy Spirit who gives life. We propose to demonstrate the possibility of human relationships through the Holy Spirit.
At the moment of conception, every human being derives some elements from his/her father and mother and elements from God. These elements from the three sources (God, mother, and father) combine to make a person a human being. Though humanity derives certain elements from the three sources, it is the holistic person that reflects God's image in the sense that through the various elements humanity is able to relate and communicate with God, neighbor, and the world. The holistic human person enables us to clarify that humanity is both physical and spiritual.
With the help of the Akan anthropology, we successfully show that knowledge of the human being starts with the relationship between God and human beings, which extends to other humans and the universe, thus offering a further insight into the meaning of being created in the image of God.
Our conclusion is that when a Christian is asked the question, “What exactly in the human being points to the image of God?” he/she will be able to respond that there is a “spark” of God in every human being. We therefore renew Christian anthropology through the method of contextualization with the Akan culture to disclose the hidden presence of God in the human being. We demonstrate that theology functions exactly as the manner in which religion makes sense within a given culture. As the people in the culture understand their world and make meaning of it, they can also share their insight with others. Human beings have become a source of theology in addition to scripture and tradition. Human beings are created in God’s image and are relational and unique within God's creation. / McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts; / Theology / PhD; / Dissertation;

Phantom Menace: the Effect of Narcissism on Word-of-mouth Communications

Ngamsiriudom, Waros 08 1900 (has links)
Previous empirical research and anecdotal accounts suggest that “subclinical narcissism” or “average Joe’s narcissism” is one of the most prevalent social phenomena in many parts of the world. Research also suggests that there will be an unprecedented escalation “in average Joe narcissists” among future generations of consumers. The objective of this study is two-fold. The first objective of this study is to explore the moderating effect of the individual’s level of narcissistic personality on their word-of-mouth (WOM) communications. The second objective of this study is to explore the boundary conditions of the first objective. The data were collected from a large number of consumers through Amazon Mechanical Turk. The results support many of the hypotheses accordant with the characteristics of the subclinical narcissistic individual. Specifically, the moderating effect of an individual’s level of narcissistic personality trait on the decision to engage in different types of WOM communications varies across the tested contexts. This study is intended to respond to social scientists' recent call for studies that investigate the fundamental motives behind the individual’s propensity to engage in WOM communication as a function of individual characteristics. The results of this study provide some prescriptive guidance to help companies target appropriate consumers to increase the effectiveness of WOM communication. In addition, this study explores the effect of individual and contextual differences on consumers’ willingness to engage in different types of WOM communication.

Mass Customization! An approach through Generative Design

Malik, Aamina Karim 01 May 2014 (has links)
Abstract Historically, design has been associated with unique, handmade products and utilities; however, the advent of the Industrial Revolution introduced the system of mass-production, which generated a recurrent and ambivalent problem: the lack of customized products. Generative Design redresses this issue. This new design method is based on a system of rules, which produce a design that maintains individuality and character. Generative Design takes one away from natural elements and the distinct personalities of designs and products. Forming a design out of certain algorithms and sets of rules constricts it to artificiality and separates it from the natural. Hence, Generative Design has mostly developed without paying close attention to natural processes and human interaction. Based on the research, an attempt has been made to bridge the gap between the artificial and the natural, instituting a dialogue between the two. This study has brought together the two concepts of Generative Design and mass production to produce a series of designs which can be mass-produced yet remain unique because of their connection to the natural world.

Deskriptivní vlastnosti systémů výjimečných množin v harmonické analýze / Descriptive set properties of collections of exceptional sets in Harmonic analysis

Kovařík, Vojtěch January 2014 (has links)
We study families of small sets which appear in Harmonic analysis. We focus on the systems H(N) , N ∈ N, U and U0. In particular we compare their sizes via comparing the polars of these classes, i.e. the families of measures annihilating all sets from given class. Lyons showed that in this sense, the family N∈N H(N) is smaller than U0. The main goal of this thesis is the study of the question whether this also holds when the system U0 is replaced by the much smaller system U. To this end we define a new system H(∞) and systems of sets of type N where N ∈ N∪{∞}. We then prove some of their properties, which might be useful in solving the studied question. 1

Human Rights Learning : The Significance of Narratives, Relationality and Uniqueness

Adami, Rebecca January 2014 (has links)
Whereas educational policy is mainly concerned with the content of Human Rights Education (HRE), philosophers of education have widely explored the subject and her social condition in terms of social justice education. This thesis draws on philosophers of education in exploring the subject rather than the content of HRE, focusing the study on ontological rather than epistemological aspects of learning. In this thesis learning is explored through narratives, as a relational process of becoming. The turn to narrative is taken against the dominant historical narrative of human rights as a Western project. This turn concerns how claims toward universalism of human rights exclude difference and equally concerns how notions of particularity overshadows the uniqueness in life stories. The concept of uniqueness serves to elucidate the complexity of the subject, not easily reduced into social categorizations, a concept drawn from Adriana Cavarero and Hannah Arendt. /
At the time of the doctoral defense, the following papers were unpublished and had a status as follows: Paper 2: In Press; Paper 4: Manuscript.

O conceito de indivíduo e sua realidade na política em Espinosa / the concept of individual and its reality in the philosophy of Spinoza

Silva, Daniel Santos da 06 July 2012 (has links)
We believe we can propose some joints in the political philosophy Espinoza from a thorough analysis of the concept of the individual and their reality in this philosophy. Salientaremos the central role of this concept in understanding the nature of the required total, while production of the substance of infinite things in infinite ways to express their infinite power. In this connection, we face problems relating to the real unity of the individual, the prospect of its relational nature, nature that allows us to better understand the formation of the political field in Spinoza and because the individual reality in this field enables him to overcome some analyzes that claim, the explicit or implicitly, some disruption to the social formation and the intrinsic discontinuity of efficient causality individual, precisely because such analyzes do not take so far the reality of the individual.

REPETIÇÃO E SINGULARIDADE EM KALAHARI (LUIS SERGUILHA)

The contemporary work is rhizomatic, desiring machine, boddy whithout organs, deterritoriality in flux. As this machine‟s assumptions, we have the decentralization, the desubjectivity, the dereference and the nonsense. In this work, nothing else will hold us back to the meaning and significant‟s meshes.Knowledge known only by those who mobilize affections and who vibrate through madness, from emptiness and animality: the art‟s signs. The work of art here is an uniqueness instance and repetition; subjectivation artifice. Uniqueness is an affirmative because it is also becoming (devir); Becoming (Devir) as a process connected to repetition that decentralizes the being, through a disjunctive synthesis, in a way that it will not be spoken about the totality of the being and the work, but in totalities. There is no more paternity, neither origin, nor destiny because in this work, the sign-art becomes a nomad in the desert. Cartographing this nomadism in the Kalahari‟s autopoiesis is to walk as a wanderer, by Blanchotiano‟s „outside‟, being deterritorialized and reterritorialized; becoming a writer-reader for himself, for the world, for life.

O uso da marca sob a ótica da integridade / The trademark use under the perspective of the integrity

Machado, Alexandre Fragoso 04 June 2013 (has links)
This paper aims to analyze the effects of the use of the trademark by the owner or by third parties from the perspective of the integrity. The use of the trademark brings negative consequences to the sign itself with respect to its material integrity, causing lack of its distinctiveness among competing marks, which slims the distinctive distance between the signs of the same or related economic field. Furthermore, the use of the trademark can also cause the complete loss of its uniqueness, distinctive body of the mark, reaching sometimes the vulgarization of the same, becoming res communis omnium. On the other hand, the material integrity of the mark can undergo positive processes that enhance its distinctive body. The successful use of the mark increases its fame before the market and consumers, differentiating it from others and being raised to a level of a famous mark. The fame through use elevates the ordinary marks to the status of well-known marks or trademarks of high repute. Both represent upper rungs of material integrity towards marks that are ordinarily protected within their fields of activities. Moreover, despite the right of exclusive use offered to registered marks, such right is not absolute. That is, even occurring unauthorized uses of trademarks by third parties which cause changes in the material integrity of the same, there are uses considered permitted by law and jurisprudence. Thus, this paper intends to demonstrate that the use of the mark is the common thread of these phenomena.

A construção da autonomia no adulto jovem: uma visão contemporânea a partir da abordagem Junguiana / A contemporary vision on the construction of autonomy in young adults: a jungian approach

Campanile, Luciana Leite Ximenez 18 September 2015 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 Luciana Leite Ximenez Campanile.pdf: 862797 bytes, checksum: 22a000ba500299269dfe860d4bf043f1 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015-09-18 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The psychological aspects of the young adult, the possible difficulties faced at that period of development and the resources used to cope with such difficulties are issues that have attracted the interest of scholars from various fields of study. Adopting the theoretical framework of Analytical Psychology, this research aimed at understanding in particular the acquisition of autonomy in young adults, taking into account the psychological universe of individuals who are at that development point, as well as aspects relating to their adaptation to the external world. A qualitative research was conducted, based on semi-structured interviews with ten participants, aged between 22 and 28 years. The findings suggest that this moment of the journey is full of fear, tension and doubts about themselves. The lack of rites of passage contributes to make these symptoms more severe, since there is no milestone to mark the parting from the adolescent universe and the entry into the adult world. Main challenges faced by these young people are related to the search for balance between the demands from the internal world and those from the outside world, between innovation and responsibility, between exploration and discipline. Achieving financial and emotional independence from parents, as well as being able to give up certain things in favor of autonomy, is probably among the greatest difficulties encountered by respondents. To overcome the obstacles involved in achieving those goals, they have used resources such as: courage, determination, pride, self-criticism and intuition. Some of the them described severe complications during that period, such as anorexia and depression, which have also served as a support for the development of greater autonomy. Main achievements include the ability to make choices, the experience of feeling free and an independent life. Nonetheless, individualism and the lack of investment on the collective aspects of life are aspects that stand out in the experience of those young adults. At the conclusion of this work, we explore the need for greater attention to the relations that contemporary young adults establish with their unconscious as well as with the world and the people around them / Os aspectos psicológicos do adulto jovem, as possíveis dificuldades encontradas nesse período do desenvolvimento e os recursos utilizados para o enfrentamento de tais dificuldades são temas que têm despertado o interesse de estudiosos de diversas áreas.
