Σεισμική αποτίμηση και ενίσχυση τριορόφου κτηρίου οπλισμένου σκυροδέματος / Seismic assessment and strengthening of a 3-story reinforced concrete building

Βουσβούκης, Ιωάννης 14 May 2007 (has links)
The present project deals with a seismic assessment analysis of an existing reinforced concrete building. A fully performance-based procedure is adopted based on the principals of the draft Greek Retrofitting Code and the draft part 3 of the Eurocode 8 : Assessment and retrofitting of Buildings. The method is subjected on an existing building, which has been constructed, during early 70’ s, prior to the principals of the modern codes for earthquake resistant design. The building is located in the area of Nafpaktos. In the first chapter a summary of the characteristics of the existing building is given. Special data concerning the site, the geometry and the construction methods at the time in which the building was constructed. The results of the damage investigation according to the visual and the instrumental inspection are also given. The basic principals according to which the modelling and the non-linear analysis procedures took place is given in the 2nd chapter. For the analysis procedures the program ANSR University of Patras is used which has been developed in the Structural Laboratory of The Civil Engineering Department of the University of Patras. One-component, point-hinge macromodels are used for the RC members, to relate the end-moment to the chord rotation at member ends within each plane of bending. The M-θ relation in monotonic loading is taken bilinear, with a post-yield hardening ratio p computed assuming antisymmetric bending and using empirical expressions according to the Greek Retrofitting Code and Part-3 of the EC8 (according to the selected limit state). The hysteresis rules supplementing the bilinear monotonic M-θ curve are of the modified-Takeda type. Also the monotonic M-θ relation which is used for the modelling of the foundation uplift is given. In the 3rd chapter the performance objectives of the assessment procedure are given according to the appropriate levels of protection for the selected limit state. The synthetic accellerograms which are used for the Nonlinear dynamic procedure are compatible to the EC8 elastic spectrum for type soil C for the limit state of Significant Damage. Moreover the methodology of the determination of the target displacement according to the Annex B of the EC8-part 1 and the draft Greek Retrofitting Code. Finally in chapters 4 and 5 the results of the nonlinear static and dynamic analysis are presented. For the nonlinear static procedures the results are given in terms of base shear vs roof displacement and in terms of Spectral acceleration vs Spectral displacement for the determination of the target displacement. The results of the NonLinear dynamic procedures are given in terms of mean values of the damage index.

Halocinese e tectônica de rafts na bacia emersa de Benguela (Angola): dados de campo, modelagem física e restauração estrutural / Rafts and salt tectonics in the onshore Benguela basin (Angola): field data, sand box modeling and structural restorations

Gabriel Macedo de Almeida e Castro 14 February 2014 (has links)
The present work was done with field data from Benguela Basin, which is located in the southern coast of Angola. At this site, an albian carbonatic platform, analogous to the hydrocarbon productive formations of the same age in Campos Basin, outcrops near the coast line , in the surroundings of the city of Benguela. Two major units are recognized among this section: The lower one is characterized by shallow water carbonates with sandstones and conglomerates interlayered at its basal levels, and a total thickness of 300 m. The upper section is composed of deep waters carbonate rocks in a 100 m thick package. This section occurs in two structural domains. The northern domain forms a 5 km wide and 35 km long platform elongated in the NE direction and close to the basement to the east. The southern part is represented by less than 10 km long and up to 5 km wide fragments, some of them displaced from the basement. Considering that evaporates underlie this platform, the main objective of this work is to investigate the influence of salt tectonics on the deformation of the albian rocks. The use of satellite images of public domain allowed the extrapolation of punctual information as well as the construction of the elevation profiles, utilized for the elaboration of the geologic sections. The field data indicate that the structuration at the northern domain, where there is less salt, is influenced by the basement structures. On the other hand, at the southern region, where the evaporitic section is thicker, the deformation is detached from the basement. One geologic section was constructed for each domain and their restorations indicated that the southern part of the platform was affected by an extension of 1,25 (125%) and that the extension at the northern part was 1,05 (105%). This variation is due to a thicker salt layer under the southern part, which conducted the albian package to extend more intensively in consequence of the downdip salt flow, when the basin was tilted toward the ocean. At this region extension was so intense that the faulted blocks lost contact with each other, forming the so called rafts. This effect was simulated in sand box models which indicated that the salt thickness plays a major role in the deformation of the overburden rocks. The variations on the original salt thickness was controlled by transfer faults in the basement and these are the same structures that controlled the boundaries of the basement blocks that responded differently to the Cenozoic uplift events

Chronologie et dynamique de la formation des terrasses fluviales dans des chaînes des montagnes avec une surrection modéré : l'exemple du Vénézuéla et de l'Albanie / Timing and dynamics of river terraces formation in moderate uplifted ranges : the example of Venezuela and Albania

Guzman Gutierrez, Oswaldo 30 October 2013 (has links)
This research addresses interactions between tectonics, climate and geomorphic processes at the surface of the Earth through the study of river terraces in Venezuela and Albania. Both areas have been exposed to moderate uplift, to Quaternary climatic variations and provide a wide record of river terraces. These contexts furnish opportunities to investigate the dynamics of terraces formation at 102-105 year time scale. Thus, a morphochronologic approach was applied in order to achieve greater understanding about this issue for the Venezuelan and Albanian rivers. In the Pueblo Llano and Santo Domingo rivers system located in the Southeastern flank of the Mérida Andes in Venezuela, twelve river terraces were identified for the last 200 ka. Analysis of 10Be concentration provides for the first time exposure ages for seven terraces and for one frontal moraine complex. A terraces model supported by these dating and geomorphologic, stratigraphic and sedimentologic data indicates that the formation of terraces was mainly controlled by high frequency (103-104 years) climatic variations through unsteady discharge of water and sediments. Nevertheless, the type of response was highly related to the altitude of the site and the influence of usptreams glaciers. As a matter of fact, in the upper reaches of the system, the succession of aggradation and incision phases were synchronized with the succession of cold-dry and warm-humid periods, while the lower reaches of the system show the opposite pattern. Based on the temporal restoration of the incision rate of the lower reaches of the system an uplift rate at 1.1 mm/a for the last 70 ka was estimated for the Southeastern flank of the MA. Additionally, the identification and dating of a frontal moraine complex located at elevation of 2300 m a.s.l. in the Pueblo Llano valley highlights the fact that the glacier advance during the Last Glacial Maximum, in other areas of the MA could have also reached lower elevation than those reported between 2900 and 3500 m a.s.l. In the Albania domain, the terrace records of the six main Albanian rivers were analyzed. New geomorphologic and geochronological data were integrated with published data in order to propose a regional homogeneous stratigraphic/chronologic framework for the last 200 ka. Based on this framework the timing of formation of eleven regional river terraces was established. In Albania, the processes of terraces formation were also mainly controlled by high frequency (103-104 years) climatic variations. Nonetheless, the results also show that the geomorphic responses of the fluvial systems were probably modulated by the size of the catchments and by eustatic variations. Indeed, for the pre-Marine Isotope Stage 2 (MIS 2) period, fill and strath terraces were formed in the large and small catchments, respectively. After the beginning of the MIS 2, a complex relation between climatic and eustatic variations only favored the development of strath terraces in large and small catchments. Despite of the differences between the rivers responses, the succession of aggradation or lateral erosion and incision phases were synchronized with the succession of cold-dry and warm-humid periods in all the rivers of Albania. Finally, the restoration of spatial and temporal variation of incision rate allowed: 1) identify the spatial variation of the mean long-term incision rate. It varies from less than 0.1 mm/a in Southern Albania to 1 mm/a in Northern Albania; 2) estimate vertical slip rates for eight active faults for the last 19 ka in Southern Albania. These vertical slip rates appear to decrease from ~2 to ~0.1 mm/a from the extensional domain in the Eastern Albania to the compressional domain in Western Albania.

Tectonique et processus d’exhumation des Cordillères Blanche et Noire en contexte de subduction horizontale (Nord Pérou) / Tectonics and exhumation processes above a flat subduction : example of the Cordilleras Blanca and Negra (northern Peru)

Margirier, Audrey 27 November 2015 (has links)
My thesis focuses on the mechanisms that controlled the uplift and construction of the relief in the northern Peruvian Andes. In this area, the Cordillera Blanca forms the highest peaks in Peru (> 6000 m), which is a topographic anomaly across the Andes. The morphology of the Cordillera Blanca is marked by an elongated pluton, which outcrops over 150 km. In addition, this pluton is bordered by the largest normal fault from South America. The presence of this major normal fault in a flat-slab context remains surprising because flat slabs usually induce an increase of the shortening in the overriding plate. The aim of my work is to characterize the variations of the regional stress field, the age of the uplift and discuss the geodynamic processes that contributed to relief building. To address these issues, I used a multidisciplinary approach involving new field data, their analysis and modeling. My microtectonic dataset reveals regional extension above the Peruvian flat-slab. This data contradicts the expected increase of shortening in the overriding plate. Modeling my new thermochronologic data shows an increase in the exhumation rates induced by the uplift of the Cordillera Occidental since 15 Ma. I propose that the regional uplift relates to the flattening of the subduction and associated dynamic topography. To address the impact of the Miocene arc on the uplift at a more local scale, I compiled the cooling ages of the pluton available in the literature. In parallel, I obtained the first amphibole thermo-barometry data that constrains emplacement depth of the Cordillera Blanca batholith. Following these data, I propose that the batholith is structured in eastward-tilted sills. In addition, modeling of the space and time variations of erosion rates based on the inversion of thermochronologic data indicates that erosion rates significantly increased in the Cordillera Blanca since 2 Ma. The Miocene arc seems to insignificantly contribute to the local uplift despite its contribution to the thickening of the lithosphere. Thus, I suggest that the recent glacial erosion contributes to the exhumation of the Cordillera Blanca and subsequent tilting of the batholith. Then, I modeled the landscape evolution for the Cordillera Blanca region to quantify the contribution of erosion in the relief building and the uplift. My numerical models (FastScape) evidence the importance of erosion and associated flexural rebound in fostering relief building and the uplift rates. Finally, based on all available data, I propose a new regional model to explain the Cordillera Blanca normal fault. This model implies an extrado normal fault and erosion of the footwall.

Local plant species diversity in coastal grasslands in the Stockholm archipelago : The effect of isostatic land-uplift, different management and future sea level rise / Växtdiversitet på strandängar i Stockholms skärgård : Effekt av landhöjning, olika hävdmetoder och framtida havsnivåhöjningar

Lindén, Cecilia January 2017 (has links)
Semi-natural grasslands with traditional management are known to be very species-rich, with many plant species strongly associated with the habitat. The last century’s decline of semi-natural grasslands, as a result of land use change and abandonment, has made the remaining semi-natural grassland a high concern for conservation. Since management can be costly and the available resources often are limited, it is important to use the most beneficial management method for preserving and enhancing the biodiversity. One semi-natural grassland type of certain interest around the Baltic region are coastal grasslands. In this study, I investigated vascular plant species occurrence in ten managed coastal grasslands located in the Stockholm archipelago. The effect of recent land-uplift and future sea level rise on the ten coastal grasslands were analyzed as well. A major part of all ten grasslands had been subjected to the process of isostatic land-uplift the past 100 years. Five of the grasslands were currently managed by grazing and the other five were managed by traditional mowing. There was no significant difference in alpha and gamma diversity between the two management types. Though, higher biodiversity values, such as more different species found in total, higher amount of species typically linked to meadows and pastures, less succession species and more red-listed species, were found in the traditionally mowed grasslands. Furthermore, a sea level rise with 40 cm the next 100 years in the region would lead to loss of plant species diversity in the investigated coastal grasslands. One major concern is the limited areas upwards on the coastal grasslands for species to migrate to in the future, which is expected to primarily affect species associated with meadows and pastures. The study highlights the importance of open and managed grassland areas further up the coastal grasslands for local species to migrate to, if the sea level would rise as predicted by future climate scenarios. Albeit weak the results of this study indicate that traditional mowing generates higher biodiversity values compared to grazing, hence it should be the preferred management method in coastal grasslands in the Stockholm archipelago.

Scandinavian Airlines has a large database containing their Eurobonus members. In order to analyze which customers they should target with direct marketing, such as emails, uplift models have been used. With a binary response variable that indicates whether the customer has bought or not, and a binary dummy variable that indicates if the customer has received the campaign or not conclusions can be drawn about which customers are persuadable. That means that the customers that buy when they receive a campaign and not if they don't are spotted. Analysis have been done with one campaign for Sweden and Scandinavia. The methods that have been used are logistic regression with Lasso and logistic regression with Penalized Net Information Value. The best method for predicting purchases is Lasso regression when comparing with a confusion matrix. The variable that best describes persuadable customers in logistic regression with PNIV is Flown (customers that have own with SAS within the last six months). In Lassoregression the variable that describes a persuadable customer in Sweden is membership level1 (the rst level of membership) and in Scandinavia customers that receive campaigns with delivery code 13 are persuadable, which is a form of dispatch.

Effects of Architectural Features of Air-Permeable Roof Cladding Materials on Wind-Induced Uplift Loading

Li, Ruilong 23 April 2012 (has links)
Widespread damage to roofing materials (such as tiles and shingles) for low-rise buildings, even for weaker hurricanes, has raised concerns regarding design load provisions and construction practices. Currently the building codes used for designing low-rise building roofs are mainly based on testing results from building models which generally do not simulate the architectural features of roofing materials that may significantly influence the wind-induced pressures. Full-scale experimentation was conducted under high winds to investigate the effects of architectural details of high profile roof tiles and asphalt shingles on net pressures that are often responsible for damage to these roofing materials. Effects on the vulnerability of roofing materials were also studied. Different roof models with bare, tiled, and shingled roof decks were tested. Pressures acting on both top and bottom surfaces of the roofing materials were measured to understand their effects on the net uplift loading. The area-averaged peak pressure coefficients obtained from bare, tiled, and shingled roof decks were compared. In addition, a set of wind tunnel tests on a tiled roof deck model were conducted to verify the effects of tiles’ cavity internal pressure. Both the full-scale and the wind tunnel test results showed that underside pressure of a roof tile could either aggravate or alleviate wind uplift on the tile based on its orientation on the roof with respect to the wind angle of attack. For shingles, the underside pressure could aggravate wind uplift if the shingle is located near the center of the roof deck. Bare deck modeling to estimate design wind uplift on shingled decks may be acceptable for most locations but not for field locations; it could underestimate the uplift on shingles by 30-60%. In addition, some initial quantification of the effects of roofing materials on wind uplift was performed by studying the wind uplift load ratio for tiled versus bare deck and shingled versus bare deck. Vulnerability curves, with and without considering the effects of tiles’ cavity internal pressure, showed significant differences. Aerodynamic load provisions for low-rise buildings’ roofs and their vulnerability can thus be more accurately evaluated by considering the effects of the roofing materials.

Mechanicky kotvené povlakové hydroizolace / Systems of mechanically fastened flexible roof waterproofing membranes

Stodůlka, Jindřich January 2014 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is going to concentrate on the issues associated with the technology of mechanically anchored coating waterproofing of roofs. Today the mechanical anchoring belongs to the most widespread way of how to stabilize the layers of roofing material against the effects of wind uplift particularly in indoor buildings. However some malfunctions occur more and more frequently which cause leaking into the constructions or even the destruction of the whole roof in the worse cases. The practical part of this thesis is going to concentrate on the fasterners which belong to the most important elements of the mechanical anchored system. The aim of the experimental measurement is to draw a comparison of the quality of fasteners which are distributed on the Czech market. Thereafter the obtained figures are going to be compared with the theoretical calculating procedures according to the valid designed standards.

nádrž ČOV / Cast-in-place tank of sewage plant

Sivčák, Jozef Unknown Date (has links)
The master’s thesis designs and checks the reinforced concrete tanks of sewage plant. Part of this thesis are also drawings. Tanks are designed as a watertight underground structure with aspect on standards and watertight function. Foundation slab and concrete walls were designed according to ultimate and serviceability limit states. The thesis includes design of reinforcement according to non-force effects in early stage. The structure is checked also to loss of equilibrium of a structure due to uplift by vertical actions from water pressure.
