Procedurell Generering eller Manuell Design? : En undersökning av hur Procedurell Generering uppfattas i First Person Shooters / Procedurell Generation or Manual Design? : A survey of how Procedural Generation is perceived in First Person Shooters

Falk, Sean, Renhammar Metus, Viking January 2020 (has links)

"The Awful State of Ireland" : Irländarens avbildning i Punch under Repealrörelsen 1842 – 1848 / "The Awful State of Ireland" : Representations of the Irish in Punch during the Repeal movement 1842 – 1848.

Wallin, Alexander January 2023 (has links)
By examining the British satirical magazine Punch's presentation of the Irish during the Repeal-movement, this study explores how satire can be used as a tool for colonial powers to establish dominance over differing nationalities through print media. This has been examined by extracting traits attributed to the Irish in Punch's illustrations and articles from 1842 - 1848, the Repeal independence movements most active years. The study is split into three seperate categories: "The Irish in relation to the Repeal politician Daniel O'Connell"; "The political Irish"; and "Paddy" (the Irish outside of politics). Within these categories the study also found a chronological pattern of Young Ireland gaining increasingly negative attention in Punch as a result of Daniel O'Connell, one of Repeals leaders, leaving the political scene during the last years of his life 1846/1847. The increased attention for Young Ireland is attributed to Punch's rivalry with the Irish nationalist magazine The Nation; Young Irelands mouthpiece.      The study found that Punch's disdain towards Repeal supporters such as The Nation, Young Ireland, and Daniel O'Connell extended to their view of the Irish as a people. Although Punch's Irishman is almost exclusivly portrayed as violent and stubborn, these are seen as virtues rather than flaws when used to resist Repeal advocates and Irish politicians. Further, Punch's rivalry with The Nation creates a polemic relationship of British upper-class versus Irish nationalist commoner which can be used as a press historian scale model of the Anglo-Irish conflicts of the 19th century.

In Conflict with Conformity : The Protagonist’s Struggle against Victorian Institutions and Gendered Behavioral Norms in Jane Eyre

Axén, Robin January 2016 (has links)
This essay examines the theme of conformity in Charlotte Brontë’s novel Jane Eyre. It highlights in particular the protagonist’s conflict with conformity as criticism of social inequality in terms of gender. The analysis builds on the patriarchal concept of the angel of the house, as described by Lois Tyson and Alastair Henry and Catharine Walker Bergström, which is a definition of the governing codes of behavior women of the nineteenth century were expected to follow within both the domestic and professional sphere. Specifically, these spheres are organized through significant Victorian institutions such as the household, the education and employment of women and the marriage. The behavior of Jane is discussed in relation to these institutions as a means to support the argument of the protagonist distancing herself from contemporary gender norms. The conclusion of the essay shows that Jane’s circumstances within these institutions leads to her deviation from behavioral norms as a deliberate action.

"A Queer Fish" : En Queerläsning av John Galsworthys The Forsyte Saga.

Åström, Josephine January 2012 (has links)
This paper aims to examine the heteronormativity that is present in John Galsworthy’s The Forsyte Saga. This is achieved by performing a queer reading of the text with the help of Swedish Queer theorists Fanny Ambjörnsson and Tiina Rosenberg. I study the norm and how it is enforced by law, society and family. To get a complete image of the heteronormativity I also need to analyze the gender presented in the saga. For that task I use Judith Butler’s definitions of gender identity and the heterosexual matrix. I conclude that there is only a slight gender variation in the saga, mostly concerning the woman. Meanwhile the norms are broken repeatedly by different people and for different reasons. Generally all the non-normative behavior that is out of the public eye gets included and silenced by the family who acts as the norm.

Hennes namn var Carmila : En queerteoretisk analys av Joseph Sheridan Le Fanus novell Carmilla / Her name was Carmilla : A queer theoretical analysis of Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu’s short novel Carmilla

Issa, Alexandra January 2016 (has links)
This dissertation is a text analysis of the short novel Carmilla (1872) by the Irish ghost story-author Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu. It is a close reading analysis where I apply a queer theoretical perspective using Mia Franck’s model to analyze different silence practices in Carmilla. I focus on the female vampire Carmilla and her companion Laura and how they are portrayed in this short novel. I will ask the questions: do the characters Carmilla and Laura show a non-heterosexual relationship, passion and desire? How do they depart from the gender norm and can they be seen as characters who deviate from what society considers ‘normal’ behaviour? And can Carmilla and Laura’s relationship be seen as an example of silenced homosexuality and in what way is it expressed? Carmilla and Laura’s behaviour can certainly be described as queer and it is effective to examine the novella using silence practices through a queer perspective. Many of the practices are written silences. Mostly, its things that the reader realizes before the storyteller Laura does herself. They reveal numerous oddities in the story, taking the form of narrative, camouflaged, performative, ritualized and existential silences. Prominent examples are the way Carmilla hides both her vampiric and lesbian sides which Laura is repelled at in addition to her own lustful and passionate emotions. As a future teacher, one of my most important jobs will be to educate my pupils about democratic values and that all kinds of discrimination should be discouraged. An essay of this sort is one way to educate them in how gender and sexuality can be seen from historical, political and cultural perspectives.
