Exploring home visitation as an intervention for child abuse and neglect: Is worker-parent alliance predictive of maternal outcomes?

January 2015 (has links)
abstract: Home visitation programs are growing in popularity for a variety of social concerns including early childhood abuse and neglect. Healthy Families Arizona (HFAz) uses the home visitation format to deliver early-childhood development and parenting skills for at-risk parents with the goal of decreasing incidents of child abuse and neglect (Daro & Harding, 1999). Some research demonstrates that the strength of the worker’s alliance with parents can be significantly predictive of home visitation program completion and decreases in depression for participating mothers, but these findings have little replication (Girvin, DePanfilis, & Daining, 2007). It is important to have a clear understanding of worker-client alliance and how it affects maternal outcomes including program retention and completion so that those working with home visitation interventions can implement programs from an evidence-based perspective, thus increasing efficiency and efficacy of programs. This study hypothesizes a significant relationship exists between Working Alliance Inventory (WAI) scores and Healthy Families Parenting Inventory scores, and that WAI scores predict maternal outcomes from the HFPI. Bivariate correlation analysis determined a significant positive relationship exists between WAI scores and home visitation completion rates (r=0.320, p= .042), and found no other significant relationships. Regression analysis found WAI scores are predictive home visitation completion. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Social Work 2015

This work seeks to bring the daily experiences and tactics of the Portuguese Crypto-Jews in the period in which the Visitor of the Tribunal of the Holy Office of the Portuguese Inquisition arrives for the first time the Captaincies of Pernambuco, Itamaracá and Paraíba, between the years of 1593 to 1595.Seeking to problematize the cultural practices of Jewish origin that appeared in the denunciations that arrived at the table of the inquisitorial representative, Heitor Furtado de Mendonça, against these women. A metodologia utilizada consiste no método VIM (Visitor Impact Management). / The aim of this study was to evaluate the conservation status of the trails and their marginal areas of the Ibitipoca’s State Park by monitoring of environmental impact indicators selected and implemented in seven trails of the park. The methodology used is the method VIM (Visitor Impact Management). For monitoring 23 indicators parameters were selected, being 4 biological, 10 physical and 9 social, monitored in three months of rainy and three months of drought every 100 meters, totaling 227 points. Data collection was performed by categorical data and absolute values. Analyses were performed for the crosstabs of categorical data of the rainy season and dry; the similarity of these samples was tested by the McNemar-Bowker test and Gamma’s coefficient. For the data of absolute values, we used descriptive statistics; the statistical difference was evaluated by the Wilcoxon test and check for correlation between samples we used the Spearman’s correlation test. As indicators of impact to the Park stood out the biological checkers Melinis minutiflora and evidences of the presence of animals. Among physicists, Erosive processes of the trail checkers, Drainage, Sensitivity to touch the soil and Width of trail. With regard to social and management indicators, the checkers Meetings with individuals, Garbage, Construction of infrastructure and Numbers of encounters with individuals. Compared to the circuits analyzed, Water Circuit was considered the most vulnerable to the impacts of visitation. As for the environmental assessment of the Park, we can infer that it is highly impacted by the visitation being recommended interventions, recovery of the areas most impacted, periodic monitoring of indicators and the accompaniment of guides to places of greatest fragility.

"Can I see my Daddy?": child and adult family members as visitors in the adult intensive care unit

Chalifour, Emma E. 07 January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this qualitative study was to supply preliminary insights into improving the support of visiting families with children who are minors during the intensive care unit stay (ICU) of an adult family member. Hospitals often restrict children from visiting in ICUs; however, a review of the literature revealed that despite the prevalence of this policy, there has been little research into whether visiting is harmful or supportive (Liu et al., 2013; Manici & Ghillani, 2018). Although family-centred care (FCC) is considered beneficial for adult family members (Davidson et al., 2012; Eggenberger & Nelms, 2007), there is little evidence that policymakers have considered the involvement of children during an ICU stay (Knutsson & Bergbom, 2007). In this study, seven families shared their experiences of the critical illness of a loved one. Using a constructionist lens, this study explored the interaction between the gathered stories and the policies and practices associated with child and adult family members visiting adult critical care contexts in British Columbia (BC), Canada. This study found that the involvement of children in a family illness event is important and that tailoring involvement to the individual preferences of the child, and their family, is crucial. While navigating an ICU stay, families may benefit from a collaborative approach between the child, their caregiver/s, and a member of the ICU team. The goal of this research is that it will resonate with its readers and move people to deeper curiosity and further study. This exploratory study led to a list of seven preliminary recommendations that could inform the interdisciplinary policies and practices associated with supporting child and adult family members as visitors in an ICU. Further research is needed to explore the experiences of families with children more fully, and to understand the systems that need to be in place to support them during the critical illness of a loved one. / Graduate / 2021-12-16

Congruence and Temporal Variation of Floral Visitation and Pollen Transport Networks in Southern Appalachia

Barker, Daniel A 01 August 2020 (has links)
Observation of floral visitation is an accepted method to describe plant-pollinator interactions despite potential biases. Collecting pollen from pollinators offers new insights on the structure and function of plant-pollinator communities. Furthermore, the strength and frequency of plant-pollinator interactions can vary across temporal scales. However, within-season and within-day (morning vs. evening) variation in plant-pollinator networks has been little studied. By evaluating variation in network structure across these biologically relevant time scales, we will gain a better understanding of the factors that shape plant-pollinator communities. The objectives of this study are to 1) Compare the structure of plant-pollinator networks built on floral visitation and pollen transport data, 2) Evaluate intra-annual variation in plant-pollinator network structure and 3) Evaluate variation in plant-pollinator structure within a single day (i.e. morning vs. evening). Misijní rozměr cesty Panny Marie za Alžbětou (Lk 1,36-45) / A missionary dimension of the journey of Mary to Elisabeth (Luke 1:36-45)

Anderlová, Iveta Isabela January 2020 (has links)
Missionary aspects of the Visitation of Virgin Mary to Elisabeth (Luke 1:36-45). This work deals with the pericope "Visitation of Elizabeth" in the Gospel of Luke as the precursor of Jesus' missionary journey through the earth into the Kingdom of God. First the exegetical issues of individual verses are described followed by commentaries and interpretative notes of several exegetes using various translations of the Sacred Scripture. Next subject is the journey, as described in Luke's gospel, as well as the missionary view of the journey of the Virgin Mary to visit his relative Elizabeth, as well as the life journey of every man which leads to the Kingdom of God, which is a theme of Jesus Christ's preaching on his way to Jerusalem (Gospel of Luke). The work attempts to capture the necessary features of missionaries that can be identified in the pericope of the Virgin Mary on the road to Elizabeth. Elizabeth herself, as the person to whom the Virgin Mary was sent as a missionary is also an important topic in this work. Elisabeth shows the task and mission of the missionary himself, not only to bring and show Christ to others, but also to enable him to whom he is sent to confess his faith and show his piety. Child Abuse Prevention By Home Visitors: A Study of Outstanding Home Visitors Using Mixed Methods

Schaefer, Jaylene Krieg 03 March 2010 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / Child abuse remains a serious health problem in the U.S. Yet, there are preventative programs that can significantly improve the parenting experienced by very young children and result in lower incidence of maltreatment. Home visitation is the most prevalent and successful form of primary prevention. These programs are staffed by home visitors who empower parents and are the lynchpin of home visitation programs. What makes some home visitors excel at this work is the focus of this research. A small, non-random, purposive sample of excellent home visitors and their administrators was used to learn about the personal characteristics of outstanding home visitors. The mixed methods design of this research included qualitative interviews, home visiting situational vignettes, and quantitative tests of personality attributes. The results indicated that this group of outstanding home visitors possessed important similarities. First, the home visitors were effective at forming and maintaining empathic relationships. The variables that facilitate the formation of the therapeutic relationships between home visitor and client include: (a) “good enough empathy” (need not be extraordinarily empathic but at least averagely so), (b) positive regard (showing respect to the families and recognizing that the parent is the expert on their child), and (c) congruence. Secondly, the home visitors possessed self-awareness allowing for reflective practice and forming and maintaining better client relationships. Thirdly, the excellent home visitors possessed an attitude of lifelong learning. Fourthly, the home visitors strongly believed in the ability of their clients to change. This was accomplished by focusing on client strengths. Finally, in order for the home visitors to assist parents in therapeutic change, they had a belief in and understanding of systems theory and the impact that the environment can or has had on those clients. Without an ecological approach, home visitors are likely to blame the families with which they work for their unfortunate situations such as poverty. Each of the five characteristics can be taught and improved, but entrenched beliefs are less easily manipulated. The five characteristics are ordered with the first (effective at forming relationships) the most amenable to change and the last (an ecological approach) the least.

Dvě rýmovaná officia, složená pro svátek Navštívení Panny Marie: srovnávací studie a kritická edice / Two rhymed offices composed for the feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary: comparative study and critical edition

Hallas, Kathryn Rhianydd January 2021 (has links)
The feast of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary was one of the last medieval Marian feasts to be introduced into the Roman Calendar, and is unusual in the wealth of contemporary, and near contemporary, documentation available for study in relation to its introduction. The offices written by Jan of Jenštejn [1347-1400] and Adam Easton [1330-1397] for the feast of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary have never been the subject of detailed examination or comparison, nor have critical editions of these offices been produced. This thesis addresses both these gaps in scholarship and presents an analysis and comparison of the texts, melodies, and dissemination of the offices. Using contemporary evidence and secondary sources the reasons for the institution of the new feast, the motivations of both Jenštejn and Easton, their compositional styles including choice of texts and melodies, and the introduction process itself are examined within the wider context of contemporary Marian devotion and fourteenth- century textual and musical composition. Chapter One provides a contextual background to the celebration of the Visitation, from its inclusion in the Gospel of Luke and apocryphal sources to contemporary sermons, showing the importance of the Visitation in the West long before the new feast's introduction....
