L'approche contemporaine de la prévention des conflits en Afrique / The contemporary approach of the conflict prevention in Africa

Bitié, Abdoul Kader 23 May 2016 (has links)
Learning to program, learning to teach programming: pre- and in service teachers' experiences of an object-oriented language

Govender, I. (Irene) 30 November 2006 (has links)
The quest for a better way to learn and teach programming, in particular object-oriented programming, is a challenge that continues to intrigue computer science educators. Even after decades of research in learning to program, educators still search for the optimal instructional approach that will solve the `learning to program effectively' problem among introductory programming students. The aim of this study was to gain insight into, and to suggest possible explanations for, the "qualitatively different ways" in which students experience learning to program using an object-oriented programming language, and to recommend teaching and learning strategies as a result of the outcomes of the research. In order to achieve these aims, a combination of phenomenographic research methods and elements of activity theory have been employed to gain an in depth understanding of pre- and in-service teachers' learning experiences. The categories of description for the phenomenon, learning to program and the influence of the learning context have been analysed and described in detail. It is argued that understanding learning to program using Java, in order to teach programming involves more than understanding learning to program as it is normally taught in university programming courses. In addition to object-oriented concepts such as message passing, inheritance, polymorphism, delegation and overriding, it entails understanding how learning to program is reflected in the goals of instruction and in different instructional practices. Knowledge of learning to program must also be linked to knowledge of students' thinking, so that teachers have conceptions of typical trajectories of student learning, and can use this knowledge to recognize landmarks of understanding in individuals. The findings suggest relationships among students' affective appraisals of the value of learning to program, their conceptions of learning to program, their approaches to learning it, their evaluations of their performance in tests and examinations and outcomes of their actions. The relationships emerged from student descriptions of their actions and the way in which different aspects of their learning and outcomes related to one another were qualitatively described and in some cases, quantified. In particular, the tensions between prior programming knowledge of a procedural language and current learning of an object-oriented language have emerged in the study. This has implications for teaching, as this study was set against the backdrop of the change in programming language in high schools, from a procedural to an object-oriented language. / Mathematical Sciences / PhD (Maths, Science and Technology Education)

How the process of doctrinal standardization during the later Roman Empire relates to Christian triumphalism

Moore, David Normant 06 1900 (has links)
My thesis examines relations among practitioners of various religions, especially Christians and Jews, during the era when Jesus’ project went from being a Galilean sect, to a persecuted minority, to religio licita status, and eventually to imperial favor, all happening between the first century resurrection of Jesus and the fourth century rise of Constantine. There is an abiding image of the Church in wider public consciousness that it is unwittingly and in some cases antagonistically exclusionist. This is not a late-developing image. I trace it to the period that the church developed into a formal organization with the establishment of canons and creeds defined by Church councils. This notion is so pervasive that an historical retrospective of Christianity of any period, from the sect that became a movement, to the Reformation, to the present day’s multiple Christian iterations, is framed by the late Patristic era. The conflicts and solutions reached in that period provided enduring definition to the Church while silencing dissent. I refer here to such actions as the destruction of books and letters and the banishment of bishops. Before there emerged the urgent perceived need for doctrinal uniformity, the presence of Christianity provided a resilient non-militant opponent to and an increasing intellectual critique of all religious traditions, including that of the official gods that were seen to hold the empire together. When glaringly manifest cleavages in the empire persisted, the Emperor Constantine sought to use the church to help bring political unity. He called for church councils, starting with Nicaea in 325 CE that took no account for churches outside the Roman Empire, and many within, even though councils were called “Ecumenical.” The presumption that the church was fully representative without asking for permission from a broader field of constituents is just that: a presumption. This thesis studies the ancient world of Christianity’s growth to explore whether, in that age of new and untested toleration, there was a more advisable way of responding to the invitation to the political table. The answer to this can help us formulate, and perhaps revise, some of our conduct today, especially for Christians who obtain a voice in powerful places.

Payet, Dorothée 13 March 2013 (has links)
The infra-State body represents a pluriform institutional reality and a fragmented geographical reality of the regional and local dimension in EU Member States. Its European legal status is appeared in large part under jurisdictional impetus. The review of the case law of the Court allows to identify and to characterize this legal status. We note that European legal status of the regional or local authority is ambivalent and hybrid in character because of this specificities of the legal system of the European Union. On the one hand, the regional or local authority is assimilated sometimes to the status of the EU Member States, sometimes to the status of the individuals. That ambivalence in terms of legal status, as a subject to European law, cornes from the specificities of the mission of the Court. The Court must be insuring the primacy of European law into national legal systems and into the legal order of the European Union. On the other hand, the Court should consider the requirements of the regional and local dimension of EU Member State. The infra-State body is as an object to EU regulation. The normative action of the regional or local authority is supervised with a view to european integration, and at the same time, a special normative body for overseas regions has developed. We note that the Court contributes to define the normative corpus applying to the regional and local dimension in EU Member States.
