Positional games on graphs / Pozicione igre na grafovima

Mikalački Mirjana 20 February 2014 (has links)
<p>\section*{Abstract}<br />We study Maker-Breaker games played on the edges of the complete graph on $n$ vertices, $K_n$, whose family of winning sets $\cF$ consists of all edge sets of subgraphs $G\subseteq K_n$ which possess a predetermined monotone increasing property. Two players, Maker and Breaker, take turns in claiming $a$, respectively $b$, unclaimed edges per move. We are interested in finding the threshold bias $b_{\cF}(a)$ for all values of $a$, so that for every $b$, $b\leq b_{\cF}(a)$, Maker wins the game and for all values of $b$, such that $b&gt;b_{\cF}(a)$, Breaker wins the game. We are particularly interested in cases where both $a$ and $b$ can be greater than $1$. We focus on the \textit{Connectivity game}, where the winning sets are the edge sets of all spanning trees of $K_n$ and on the&nbsp; \textit{Hamiltonicity game}, where the winning sets are the edge sets of all Hamilton cycles on $K_n$.<br /><br />Next, we consider biased $(1:b)$ Avoider-Enforcer games, also played on the edges of $K_n$. For every constant $k\geq 3$ we analyse the $k$-star game, where Avoider tries<br />to avoid claiming $k$ edges incident to the same vertex. We analyse both versions of Avoider-Enforcer games, the strict and the monotone, and for each provide explicit winning strategies for both players. Consequentially, we establish bounds on the threshold biases $f^{mon}_\cF$, $f^-_\cF$ and $f^+_\cF$, where $\cF$ is the hypergraph of the game (the family of target sets).<br />We also study the monotone version of $K_{2,2}$-game, where Avoider wants to avoid claiming all the edges of some graph isomorphic to $K_{2,2}$ in $K_n$.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p>Finally, we search for the fast winning strategies for Maker in Perfect matching game and Hamiltonicity game, again played on the edge set of $K_n$. Here, we look at the biased $(1:b)$ games, where Maker&#39;s bias is 1, and Breaker&#39;s bias is $b, b\ge 1$.</p> / <p>\section*{Izvod}</p><p>Prou\v{c}avamo takozvane Mejker-Brejker (Maker-Breaker) igre koje se igraju na granama kompletnog grafa sa $n$ \v{c}vorova, $K_n$, \v{c}ija familija pobedni\v{c}kih skupova $\cF$ obuhvata sve skupove grana grafa $G\subseteq K_n$ koji imaju neku monotono rastu\&#39;{c}u osobinu.

Constitutional rules and party goals in coalition formation : an analysis of winning minority governments in Sweden

Bergman, Torbjörn January 1995 (has links)
This study starts with two theoretical puzzles within the rational choice oriented literature on government formation in parliamentary democracies: the relative importance of constitutional rules and the existence of multiple party goals. From these puzzles stem the research questions that guide the study: First, what is the theoretical and empirical link between constitutional arrangements (including rules) and party goals? Second, what are the goals of political parties and how can these be studied? Third, relative to the goals of political parties and other constitutional arrangements, what is the importance of government formation rules for the empirical record of minority and majority governments?Coalition theory provides the theoretical starting point from which the research questions stem. The historical-institutional strand of new institutionalism is used to guide the general understanding of the importance of institutional context. The rational choice oriented strand is used for a detailed study of the design of the Swedish government formation rules and an analysis of how the formation rules affect the goal seeking (micro-logic) of actors.Based on both cross-national data and an in-depth study of Swedish coalition and government formation, the analysis shows that the answer to research question number one is that the link between constitutional arrangements and party goals is one of co-determination. The answer to research question number two is that party leaders pursue four main goals and that this should be an explicit model assumption. The answer to research question number three is that the government formation rules help determine the parties' bargaining positions and for that reason they are of significant importance for the formation of minority and majority governments. / digitalisering@umu

Optimierung des Schneidprozesses und Prognose der relevanten Arbeitsgrößen bei der Gesteinszerstörung unter Berücksichtigung des Meißelverschleißes

Vorona, Maxim 02 October 2012 (has links) (PDF)

Best Practices of Print Journalists Who Have Won Awards for Mental-Health Reporting: A Qualitative Interview Study

Subramanian, Roma 2011 December 1900 (has links)
Both in the United States and abroad, newspapers tend to portray people with mental illness negatively, making them vulnerable to social rejection, discrimination, and forced treatment. This portrayal also makes them hesitant to seek treatment for fear of being stigmatized. To help determine how reporting on mental illness can be improved, I interviewed in this study 11 U.S.-based print journalists who had won awards for stories on mental illness about how they covered their stories. The interviews, which were semi-structured, were conducted between October 2010 and February 2011 and were analyzed using a grounded-theory approach. Eight themes were identified in the interview transcripts: determining story idea, evaluating newsworthiness, identifying and obtaining information from interview sources, identifying and obtaining information from non-interview sources, ensuring accuracy, building rapport with sources, writing the story, and factors facilitating reporting. Overall, respondents prepared their stories in accordance with journalistic conventions. What helped them produce quality stories was a mixture of the following organizational and personal factors: editorial support, considerable journalism experience, personal exposure to mental illness, and empathy. Also noteworthy were respondents' opinions on suggestions in reporting guides about imitation or copy-cat suicides, sensitive language, and positive mental illness news. Whereas some agreed that reporting suicide details could lead to imitation suicides, others disagreed, explaining, for example, that the details were important to the story. Similarly, respondents expressed diverse views about the importance of using sensitive language to describe individuals with mental illness. Finally, respondents indicated that instead of calling for positive stories on mental illness, media guidelines should encourage thoughtful and balanced reporting on various aspects of mental illness. In conclusion, the results suggest that it would be valuable to investigate in more detail how journalists' personal attitudes toward mental illness influence their reporting. Also, guidelines for mental-health reporting should be created with the collaboration of journalists and mental-health professionals. Further, there is a need to make journalists aware of the copy-cat suicide phenomenon. Finally, lessons gleaned from respondents' experiences in reporting their award-winning stories can be used to inform mental-health media guides.

Analýza nejvyššího a nejlepšího využití pozemku v městské části Zlín-Jižní Svahy / Analysis of the Highest and Best Use of a Plot in Zlín-Jižní Svahy

Šimoníková, Kristýna January 2019 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with the topic of analysis of the highest and best use (abbreviated as HABU). In the theoretical research, this method is described, and defines the solution process using 4 basic steps, namely legal admissibility, physical possibilities, financial justification, and maximum profitability. Subsequently, this method is applied to a specific plot in Zlín-Jižní svahy area. The solution proposes 9 variants of utilization of this land. Using the HABU method we are looking for the best use, which in turn brings the investor the highest profit. The aim of the thesis is also a clear description and practical demonstration of the application of this method, which has not been represented in the Czech Republic so far. It can thus help to understand and use it in property valuation.

Radikala högerpopulistiska partier i Västeuropa : Ett enhetligt recept på framgång? / Radical populist right-wing parties in Western Europe : A unitary recipie for success?

Andersson, Filip January 2020 (has links)
Since the 1990s the support for the populist radical right parties has steadily increased. This essay investigates if there is a common policy preference among this party-family that makes them successful, irrespective of each party’s national belonging. This is achieved by utilising a time-series cross-sectional data from the Comparative Manifesto Project. These data range between 1990-2018 and includes 13 different West-European countries. Five different hypotheses containing different policy preferences are tested through multiple regression analysis. The essay concludes that the previously commonly accepted winning formula containing a positive view on welfare, emphasis on authoritarian values and nativism does not hold up. Furthermore, the essay concludes that national context has a decisive role of which policy preference is successful. The common successful policy preference among the populist radical right is their promotion of authoritarian values together with an emphasis on eliminating political corruption and clientelist behaviour (populism). This is explained by societal value changes with major clashing groups in the society, making the authoritarian values a successful policy preference irrespective of national context.

CSR communication of Premier League clubs on social media. The impact of winning and revenue

Kunst, Felix January 2022 (has links)
Introduction: In recent years, social media communication has significantly affected the way organizations are sharing information. Social media platforms are shown to be one of the most important forms of communication also for the intent of Corporate Social Responsibility. The purpose of this study was to find out how often CSR is shared across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok and if differences exist between those platforms in frequency, choice of topic, and engagement of fans. Furthermore, the influence of being a winning, midfield, and losing team, and high and low revenue was investigated. Methods: A quantitative content analysis study was chosen as the study design. On the four mentioned social media platforms data was manually collected for Premier League clubs and coded into topics of CSR. The engagement of fans was collected with likes, comments, and shares on the relevant platforms. Results: 6879 total posts were investigated including 272 posts related to CSR content. The highest ratio for CSR posts showed Facebook (5,0%), followed by Twitter (3,7%), then Instagram (3,4%), and at last TikTok (0,8%). However, the highest number of posts was shared by Twitter, followed by Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. The topics shared the most on Twitter and Facebook are Public Policy, Safety, and Diversity. On Instagram as well Public Policy, Diversity but also Religion posts were shared the most. TikTok showed only one post related to the topic of Religion. The engagement of fans showed that Twitter has the highest engagement compared to a non-CSR-related post, closely followed by Instagram. An ANOVA analysis showed that winning teams and losing teams share significantly more CSR content than midfield teams. It was also discovered that teams with high revenue post more CSR than teams with low revenue. Discussion/Conclusion: New and major findings of this study suggest that teams in the European market have different factors that can influence the teams sharing behavior than teams from the North American market. The most interesting findings of this study show that revenue and winning may positively influence CSR sharing behavior. These insights should help understand CSR communication in sports organizations and displays the potential new platforms like TikTok and Instagram have.
