Migration, in the contemporary world, has intensified and got significantly more complex. People, objects and ideas circulate among different places and different ways, resizing notions of space and time and configurations of belonging and identity. This research, in this context, aimed at investigating the student’s migration through academic exchanges. This type of migration, growing in recent years, has singularities that greatly affect the trajectories and perceptions of those who practice them. Based on the experience of the graduate students from the Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (UFJF), which had exchanged students in the years 2013 and 2014, as well as the experience of the researcher, who was himself an exchange student on his undergraduation in 2011, there came an attempt to understand and describe this phenomenon. Through interviews and participant observation, it was noticed that this type of migration has a direct correlation to the generational cut. The idea of "being young" presupposes being available for new experiences and incorporating cosmopolitan ideal. However, these students who go to a foreign country face many integration difficulties to hang on with the locals, restricting their interactions to the universe of their peers, or, in other words, with other exchange students. Despite of this "foreign" condition, the exchange student acts as a differentiating and distinctive element for the network of these students in Brazil. In addition, the exchange student contributes to the construction of life projects and the expansion of the "field of possibilities" of these subjects, extending significantly their perceptions and perspectives on their own lives and on the world. The living out and the experience of the strangeness promote the redefinition of a Brazilian identity, used as a differentiation strategy in relation to foreigners. Finally, we highlight this phenomenon as part of government development projects, by inserting in the global arena of geopolitical dispute for scientific knowledge.

To answer this question strategic methods have been utilized, such as the semi-structured interview, as well as the focus groups and lookalike replacement techniques. The project is about a qualitative study of character developed in a local school in Pelotas, in which Mathematics teachers working in the adults and youths education field have been the studied group. Theoretical references about teaching knowledge which weaves the teachers performance have been searched in the concepts of Tardif (2012) and Gauthier et al. (1998). To answer the research issue, the results of the semi-structured interview and the lookalike replacement technique have been analyzed by using the technique of content analysis. The information that has come from the focus group subsidized the formation of the final product: a website, which intends to contribute to the teaching performance of Mathematics teachers who work with adults and youths.

Cseplö, Madeleine, Wilhelmsson, Anna, Korsbo, Jonna January 2014 (has links)
The world we live in is becoming more technological each day that goes by, but does our knowledge follow this development? Unfortunately that’s probably not the case, because it seems that all too few reflect over the risks caused by these developments and how the Swedish laws are applied in this environment. Because of this, it can be difficult for both young and adults to know what is allowed and not in the world of technology. In this modern age the use of technology has its debut in earlier ages and plays a major role in both the education and for social interactions. The social media has become a part of young people's everyday lives and also unfortunately contributed to the increase of actions like hate crimes over the Internet.   The goal of this project was to create a dialogue about cyber crimes among young people, but also to educate the older generation of the problem. More than half of the students involved in our study, (59.2 %), said that they wanted devote some of their time at school to address cyber-crimes. With this at hand we can establish that there definitely is a need to inform young people about this subject. The pupils knowledge about cyber crimes varied between the ages, the youngest were more confident about what they are allowed to do on the Internet or not. While only 60.5 % of the oldest students felt sufficiently informed. Another finding is that several of the students have a disturbing attitude towards not only hate crimes over the Internet but also cyber crimes in general. They are under the impression that because of the increased frequency of the crimes they no longer consider it to be a major issue. Also, if they would perform an illegal act, there are only a few of the students that would worry about the consequences, in this case it was only about half of the older students.   The extent of this study is far from substantial, since the study was limited to one school, this because there was only one of the schools that wanted to participate. Despite that fact, the results from the study are very interesting, and it says a lot about how the mentality towards these kinds of crimes are amongst young people today.

SENTIDOS DA ESCOLA PARA JOVENS ESTUDANTES DE ENSINO MÉDIO DIANTE DE PRÁTICAS PEDAGÓGICAS DIFERENCIADAS: UM ESTUDO DE CASO / THE MEANING OF SCHOOL FOR YOUNG STUDENTS OF HIGH SCHOOL IN FACE OF DIFFERENT PEDAGOGICAL PRACTICES: A CASE STUDY

Minussi, Valéria Pereira 14 August 2015 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The current investigation is linked to the Research Field Scholar Practices and Public Politics of the Post- Graduation Program in Education of the Federal University of Santa Maria. It had as issue: how the differentiated pedagogical practices of educators can contribute to the construction of scholar success of young high school students in Public Schools? The specific objectives are: To identify the young people who are present in the context of schools listed , to verify the differentiated pedagogical practices of educators who work with Public High School , to investigate young high school students who have experienced differentiated pedagogical practices, to distinguish successful school trajectories of young high school students . This is a qualitative research of case study type. Many public high school educators perform differentiated pedagogical practices in their classes concerned with learning and the "success" of school students and based on these school experiences the research was guided by approaching both the look of the educator as the young learner, subjects of this process. The research had as theoretical framework the youths, high school, the differentiated pedagogical practices of educators and lastly the "success". The theoretical contribution is a dialogue with Dayrell (2003), Azevedo, Kings (2013), Lahire (1997), Freire (2011; 1997; 1990) among other authors, bringing as theoretical allowance some official documents that guide the Brazilian Education. Therefore, it emerged as categories of analysis the present youths in the schools surveyed the pedagogical practice of teachers, and the relation teacher/student and school success. We observed as a result of this study a multiplicity of young people who attend school; the importance of the qualification of relations among the subjects in school, which are established in the respect, affection and listening for both parts so that the teaching/learning process can happen and young students consolidate situations of "success".

The path to become a part of the society : – a study about the integration work at a residental care home for unaccompanied youths

Gerbeshi, Kaltrina January 2017 (has links)
The main purpose of this study is to research about how the staff at a residental care home strives to make the unaccompanied youths feel like they are a part of the society in Sweden. The purpose is also to explain how the staff at the care home legitimises their integrating actions. To accomplish the purpose, a qualitative approach was made; four staffs and three youths were interviewed at a care home in the southern part of Sweden. The theoretical approach were: social integration and social exclusion. The theoretical concepts in this study were: rules, norms, social norms and moral norms. The findings of this study was that the staff, mentors and the guardians of the youths were people that helped them understand the ”new” society by teaching them the mutual norms, values and attitudes in the society. The norms, rules and routines that were taught at the care home, were interpreted as social and moral norms that sets the framework of a ”correct behavior” in a given situation. To make the system of norms appear as legitimate to the youths, the staff explained why the norms are important to internalize as well as explaining what could happen if you would go against them. In this way, the youths corrected their behavior in relation to what the staff mediated and to what they thought was important themselves. To understand how the society works, including learning the norms, values and behaviours, were according to the staff a way for the youths to create a good start into the Swedish society.

Exploring the link between youth migration and food security : a case study of Zimbabwean youths in Cape Town, South Africa

Sithole, Sean Thulani January 2015 (has links)
Magister Artium (Development Studies) - MA(DVS) / In recent times, debates on the connection between migration and development surfaced as essential discourses in contemporary development issues. Consequently, this led to the birth of what is currently popularly acknowledged or coined as the migration-development nexus. In addition, there has been an evolution of the food security topic in various developmental discussions. Nevertheless, little attention has been given to the relationship between international migration and food security in the context of development. Moreover, missing in the literature is the conversation on migration and food security with particular attention to youths who constitute a vulnerable yet economically active group. Furthermore, there has been an ongoing engaging debate on the impact of remittances, on one side macro-economists argue that remittances are important for the economies of migrant sending and receiving countries and view the use of remittances at the household level as destruction to growth and development. On the other, microeconomists are skeptical about the naïve view of the macroeconomists; on the contrary, they argue that the use of remittances at the household level is very vital for the livelihood of the poor and vulnerable societies. This thesis empirically investigated the link between youth migration and food security in the setting of Zimbabwean youths in Cape Town, South Africa, in the perspective of south-south migration, the New Economics of Labour Migration and Livelihood Approaches, consequently introducing what the researcher identifies as the youth migration-food security nexus. The thesis focused on three key themes: 1) reasons for youth migration in connection to food security 2) the importance of remittances on food security in the place of origin 3) levels of food insecurity of Zimbabwean youths in Cape Town. A combination of quantitative and qualitative research approach was applied in this study, where STATA version 12 statistical software was used for quantitative data analysis. The findings of this thesis reveal that there is an assenting link between youth migration and food security. Firstly, results point out that food insecurity or food shortage is one of the main causes of youth migration. Secondly, migration decision making is a collective and cooperative livelihood strategy used by many households or families. Thirdly, remittances from youths are vital for the livelihood of the people left in the place of origin and are primarily sent and used for food consumption. Lastly, although food security levels were still low there was an improvement of food security for youth migrants in Cape Town. Moreover, this research recognized a number of challenges that face migrant youths in their need for food security, which include (a) lack of reliable income to buy food, (b) poor utilization of food or consumption of unbalanced diet, and (c) limited research on migration and food security issues. In contextualizing these challenges, the study concludes with remarks and recommendations for policy makers, governments and nongovernmental establishments among other organizations.

Johansson, Mikaela January 2017 (has links)
The Swedish regulation concerning fixed-term contract has been a topic for discussion during the last decade. It has been criticised for not following the council’s directive 1999/70/EG on the measures to prevent the abuse of fixed-term contracts. Since 2016 the regulation has changed. It has changed in order to have the legislation within the purpose and measures set in the fixed-term directive. This essay aims to clarify whether the new Swedish legislation is in accordance with the framework agreement attached to the directive on fixed-term contracts. This will be done by analysing the measures established in the framework agreement and the purpose of the directive, then compare the result with the Swedish legislation. This part of the essay will be written using the legal dogmatic methodology. Since fixed-term contracts are more common among young people this essay will focus on how fixed-term contract, and regulations on fixed-term contracts, will affect the position of young people in the labour market. It is obvious that there are some difficulties to harmonize a legislation that suits all the social partners on the labour market. In fact, it can almost be impossible. By illuminate the political discussion regarding the use of fixed-term contracts it will help to understand why this matter is so complex and how it can be a stepping stone or a dead-end job. This will be done with a legal policy method.

Rajic, Ante January 2021 (has links)
Social workers have been exposed with threats and violence in work with children and youths for a long time. Threats and violence are a serious problem for social workers because their work is affected by these incidents. The incidents affect social workers because social workers feel concern and fear for their safety or freedom. Therefore the work is also limited based on social workers self-esteem.  Based on two theories; "KASAM" and "Empowerment" the study presents how social workers choose to handle threats and violence against them in work with youths and children.
