A cross-sectional study examining the association between maternal education and childhood (12-23 months) immunization in Uganda

Agumeneitwe, Herbert January 2020 (has links)
Introduction: Complete childhood Immunization remains the most effective way for prevention of Vaccine Preventable Diseases. The 2016 Uganda Demography Health Survey (UDHS) reported that only 55% of children aged 12-23 months had been fully vaccinated. The relationship between maternal education and childhood immunization among Ugandan children remains unclear with most of the studies done being limited in scope. Objective: To investigate the association between maternal education and childhood immunization in Uganda. Methods: This study was based on analysis of data from the UDHS. The study included 2815 children aged 12 – 23 months. Permission and data to conduct the analyses was sought from the DHS Program website. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression models were used to assess association between the maternal education and full immunization. Adjusted odds ratios (OR) with their 95% confidence intervals (CI) were reported. A p value <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Association between maternal education and childhood immunization was statistically significant (Primary Education - OR = 0.50 95%CI: 0.32 - 0.77, P value = 0.002 and Secondary Education – OR = 0.62 95%CI: 0.39 – 0.97, P value = 0.038). ANC visits, possession of a Child Health Card also had a strong effect on Childhood Immunization. Conclusion: Lower maternal education is associated with reduced completion of childhood immunization. To promote childhood immunization Parents with education lower than Secondary School should be targeted and the usefulness of ANC visits should be emphasized.

Targeted Topic Modeling for Levantine Arabic

Zahra, Shorouq January 2020 (has links)
Topic models for focused analysis aim to capture topics within the limiting scope of a targeted aspect (which could be thought of as some inner topic within a certain domain). To serve their analytic purposes, topics are expected to be semantically-coherent and closely aligned with human intuition – this in itself poses a major challenge for the more common topic modeling algorithms which, in a broader sense, perform a full analysis that covers all aspects and themes within a collection of texts. The paper attempts to construct a viable focused-analysis topic model which learns topics from Twitter data written in a closely related group of non-standardized varieties of Arabic widely spoken in the Levant region (i.e Levantine Arabic). Results are compared to a baseline model as well as another targeted topic model designed precisely to serve the purpose of focused analysis. The model is capable of adequately capturing topics containing terms which fall within the scope of the targeted aspect when judged overall. Nevertheless, it fails to produce human-friendly and semantically-coherent topics as several topics contained a number of intruding terms while others contained terms, while still relevant to the targeted aspect, thrown together seemingly at random.

Two Sides of the Same Coin : A Comparative Study of Salafi Jihadi and White Nationalist use of History of Religion in Propaganda

Haag, Christian January 1900 (has links)
This master’s thesis is a comparative propaganda analysis that studies the use of history with a religion dimension, similarities and framing of propaganda messages in the Islamic States propaganda magazine Dabiq and Brenton Tarrant’s manifesto The Great Replacement. The propaganda has been analysed with Jowett and O’Donnell’s propaganda model, combined with Jan Assmann’s theories about cultural memory, historia sacra and cultural semantics. The results show that both actors use history with a religious dimension to frame their messages, but that Tarrant uses more cultural aspects than religious. Both actors also project similar messages such as referring to supranational communities, the sacred history of ancestors, ancient enemies, new foundational history and a call for organisation by their target audience.

Optimization of Assembly Material Feeding : at Electrolux Professional AB

Nyström, Alexandra, Dürango, Felix January 2020 (has links)
Electrolux Professional AB is a multinational industrial appliance manufacturer and among many other things one of the leading global providers of laundry solutions in Ljungby, Sweden. Electrolux, being a global company with millions of customers, are always striving for the most efficient way of work in order to reach the best results. The ambition of this thesis was therefore to produce a specified suggestion of how to make a change in Electrolux Professional’s production to improve the resource, cost, and workflow efficiency directly and/or indirectly. This is done on the basis of answering two questions: 1. Is the current system improvable? 2. What kind of resources are needed to improve the efficiency in the assembly system? This thesis evaluates what kind of change of routines for picking and assembly workers (with the help of both theoretical framework and suitable solution for specifically Electrolux Professional) are needed to achieve a more efficient flow. Through the collected data, observations and unstructured interviews with the staff at Electrolux Professional, together with theoretical knowledge, important factors that need to be taken into account when implementing a more efficient work flow could be developed and thus answer the study’s question: Assuming that it is possible, with which resources/methods can the internal production system be changed to contribute to the company’s goal of making the production 50% more efficient? Several improvement suggestions were studied, including a rearrangement in the warehouse, and internal system change and even self-driving trucks. The solution that was proved to be most time and resource efficient to test and most optimal to change on short notice was a restructure in the assembly material feeding process. This could be achieved by changing the routine of the workers. By simulating a change in the daily work routines, it was proven that Electrolux Professional can use 4 fulltime workers instead of 5,5. In a long term this is quite an improvement, regarding time, money and production flow for the company.

Comparing Web Accessibility between Major Retailers and Novelties for E-Commerce

Xu, Jinmeng January 2020 (has links)
Purpose –Comparing the accessibility of e-commerce for General Merchandise, between major retailers and novelties, in the conformance of web accessibility guidelines, and the implementation of rich internet applications specifications. So that to figure out whether the differences exist between them, if so, what are the differences, and analyzing upcoming e-commerce and established e-commerce.  Method – The descriptive and quantitative case studies were used to evaluated 45 websites respectively from major retailers and novelties in General Merchandise of e-commerce, where sample websites were selected from Alexa’s rank lists. Then the WAVE tool, Accessibility Quantitative Metric (WAQM), and Fona assessment were applied for analyzing cases for representing the accessibilities and answering the research questions of purpose.  Findings – ARIA specifications as a kind of technological solution really had positive functions on web accessibility when only focusing on accessibility guidelines, because the novelty websites with less ARIA attributes resulting in lower accessibility levels generally, even though there were also many other elements that can affect accessibility.  Implications – In the main branch of General Merchandise, the degree of web accessibility in major retailer websites was better than that in novelties, which means as far as e-commerce is concerned, the accessibility of mature websites that had been established for a long time was contemporarily stronger than that of new websites with creative products.  Limitations – From the perspective of the sample, there were limitations in sample sources, size, websites languages, while in the technical aspect, the evaluation of dynamic contents just aims at keyboard navigation, and the tool of Fona assessment also had restrictions.

Predicting the Financial Impact of the CEO’s Comments in Quarterly Reports / Att förutspå den finansiella påverkan av VD-ordeti kvartalsrapporter

Westerdahl, Ludvig January 2020 (has links)
This thesis investigates how the CEO’s comments in quarterly reports affect the financial performance of a company by predicting their stock price using machine learning and natural language processing. The dataset used consists of historical information such as the stock price (quantitative data) and the CEO’s comments (qualitative data). Where the qualitative information was embedded using the paragraph vector document embedding technique and used with the quantitative data in three type of models. The models tested was Support Vector Machine and Artificial Neural Network against a Naive Bayes base- line. Further, each model was trained and evaluated using the quantitative, qualitative and both datasets and the results were confirmed using statistical significant testing. Finally, the best models from the evaluation step were used to simulate a trading strategy to buy the stock if the model predicted that the price of the stock would rise. The statistically significant improvements of using the CEO’s comments and the hypothetical profits the trading strategies rendered show that the CEO’s comments adds some predictive ability in terms of their stock price and thus their financial performance.

Healthcare on the High Seas : A telemedical perspective on quality / Sjukvård på öppet hav : Ett telemedicinskt perspektiv på kvalitet

Storlien, Hugh Lars Haakon, Halldin, Anton Davis January 2020 (has links)
The Telemedical Assistance Service (TMAS) plays a vital role in medical care at sea by linking the medically responsible officers (MROs) on board with onshore physicians. This project aims to investigate telemedical providers’ perceptions of maritime health care quality today, as well as future potential improvements in this field. A qualitative methodology was chosen as its strength lies in focus on the processes – the people, situation and events that lead to certain outcomes. Semi-structured interviews with TMAS professional staff focused on current communication limitations, perceptions of overall care quality, and what developments, technological or otherwise, might improve healthcare at sea. Following interview transcription and coding against the aims, results with a good degree of consensus were as follows. Poor communication is clearly an issue. High speed data transmission would allow TMAS medical staff to directly observe and evaluate injured crew, and to direct MROs with greater certainty. A touchpad-based system to codify onboard pharmaceuticals was recommended. Standardised initial communication templates would save time and uncertainty and are congruent with how ship’s officers deal with many other situations. Given the difficulty MROs have with IV placement, a shift to intraosseous delivery was recommended. A smaller, more focused and integrated TMAS physician cohort in Sweden was suggested. Pulse oximeters, glucometers and defibrillators were seen as ‘must have’ items on board. Developments in point of care blood analysis, especially for detection of inflammation and infection, were seen as important to evaluate. As a general conclusion, progress could be made in improving onboard medical care via a collaboration between TMAS personnel, MROs, and maritime training staff. This would allow for dialogue on what changes to training and onboard equipment might be agreed now; what should be further evaluated; and a mechanism by which developments in communication, techniques, and portable analytic devices might be effectively implemented in the future.

Implementation of automation within a warehouse company

Huynh, Philip, Tavakoli, Kim January 2020 (has links)
The aim of this study is to present the advantages and disadvantages of automation in warehouses. The goal is to introduce a way of approaching when implementing a new technology. The following research question are thus stated:     RQ1. What are the advantages with automation in warehouse companies?    RQ2. What are the disadvantages with automation in warehouse companies?    RQ3. How can automation be implemented within a warehouse company?    The research questions worked as a guideline to build the theoretical framework and result section. The analysis and conclusion section were then formulated, and the research questions were answered. To answer the research questions, the approach of the systematic literature review has been used. Which means the information gathered was done in a systematic way.     It can be said that there are both advantages and disadvantages when it comes to automation in warehouses. The automated systems that were introduced in this thesis was AGVs and palletizing robots. Both these systems require more investigation and do not fully fulfil the customer demand. Yet, it can be said that automation in warehouses can have many positive effects on for example productivity, effectivity, and employees phycological and physical aspect.     For implementation of automation a guiding principle of three head phases was introduced with several steps. The head phases are the pre-project phase, implementation phase and post-project phase. The pre-project phase is about analysing the current company state and deciding if the implementation is possible with the resources available. The implementation phase is about the importance of structuring the planning and reducing the uncertainty during the project. Lastly, post-project phase is about adjusting after the automation and reflecting about the implementation. Reflecting the processes that occurred during the project is valuable experience, therefore it is important to think over the whole process and how to keep improving processes within the organization.    There are both advantages and disadvantages with the use of automation within warehouse companies. It is believed that implementation of automation in a warehouse is strongly dependent on the individuals involved. In this study the key individuals that were discussed were managers and employees. A framework for implementation of new technology was introduced as a guiding principle for managers. The framework is aimed to work for warehouse companies and presents the risks of not following the recommended procedure.     In future studies, the programming field within palletizing and AGVs can be further researched, which can reduce the disadvantages with the usage of automation within warehouse companies.

Application of game theory in Swedish raw material market : Investigating the pulpwood market

Al Halabi, Rami January 2020 (has links)
Slutsatsen är att om två spelare (kvarnar) når / The research aims to analyze the market structure of two companies in th forest industry (Holmen and SCA) with the assumption that thes companies compete at buying raw materials and selling products. Theproduct market in this study is the paper market under the assumption thatboth companies operate in a concentrated product market. The rawmatial market that one investigates in this study is the pulpwood marketunder the assumption that it is a duopsony. What this study has concludedis that Holmen and SCA buy pulpwood from lots of different self-managingforest owners. Each company creates a monthly pricelist where they decidethe bid price of pulpwood. The amount varies depending on the region. Bot SCA and Holmen chooses between two strategic decisions, either to bid highor to bid low. Through game theory, it has been clear that each company usesmixed strategies as they sometimes give high bids and sometimes give lowbids. The Nash equilibrium for mixed strategies have been calculatedmathematically and analyzed through the dynamics of game theory. As fore market concentration, the product market has been investigatedthrough the Herfindahl-Hirschman index (HHI). Porter's five-force modelwas used to analyze the industry competition. The results showed that theproduct market is concentrated as the HHI tests gave High index scoresbetween 3100 and 1700. In addition, there existed a Nash equilibrium in amixed strategy that gave SCA expected payoff 1651 million SEK and Holmen1295 million SEK. The dynamic game theory showed that SCA and Holmen'sbidding follows a repeating trajectory and that the high/low bidding is dueto deviations from Nash equilibrium probability distribution. The Nashequilibrium situation prevails if the probability distribution at low biddingis 68.6 percent for SCA and 66,7 percent for Holmen. This providedindicators for a non-cooperative game. The conclusion is that if two players

Vision-based Cable Parameters Identification

Lukowiaks, Jakub January 2019 (has links)
Industrial robots have increased their presence on the market in recent years increasing the importance of smart maintenance. Unexpected downtime due to robot cable damage is the main cause for production downtime in manufacturing plants. There is also a strong trend towards consolidating tools for computer aided design and engineering of manufacturing processes and plants. This thesis provides a machine learning implementation in a simulated environment using a Gaussian process for determining dynamic cable parameters such as Young’s modulus and damping in order to increase cable simulation value. Better simulations will result in more confident programming measures of avoiding dangerous motions and thereby increasing cable lifetime. Results obtained from simulations show that it is possible to obtain dynamic cable parameters in certain error margin using just a few markers.
