Materiálové toky a environmentální dopady malého elektroodpadu / Material Flows and Environmental Impacts of s-WEEE in the Czech Republic

This thesis is a comprehensive study describing and quantifying material flows of waste electric and electronic equipment (WEEE) in the Czech Republic; specifically the material flow of small waste electric and electronic equipment (s-WEEE) as well as representative substances. The studied material flows were estimated regarding aspects of the environmental impact. The End-of-Life mobile phone is seen as a typical representative of s-WEEE ; therefore material flows of mobile phones are described in this thesis as well. To put it in concrete figures, approximately 124 thousand tons of WEEE from households originated in the Czech Republic in 2010, where each inhabitant got rid off 4 pieces of WEEE in average. Further, total production calculating also consumer-like WEEE from companies and institutions was around 141 thousand tons in 2010. S-WEEE present around 15% from the total amount of WEEE originating in 2010; however it is more than 80% as regards the number of pieces. Despite of that fact the recycling potential of Au for instance is slightly higher by s-WEEE than by large WEEE (63kg/year compared to the 59kg/year respectively). My stoneware sculptures in my MFA final project were named Earth Divers because clay as a material is earth and clay is also symbolic of the Earth. The way that I physically dive into clay up to my elbows is a poetic performance. The sculptures were built in sections horizontally and then stacked vertically. I began the process by first making life size plaster molds of the human figure taken from live people. Earth Divers take their architectural structure specifically from the organic curves of the negative voids that are characteristic of the plaster figure molds. I built into these plaster molds a block or brick like section. I then removed the large block sections from the molds and stacked the sections one on top of the other combining the figurative and architectural structures with gothic influence. The sculptor, Stephen De Staebler, who works in a similar fashion, describes his work as, "... first laying the figure down and later standing it in a vertical position." The way of life that was lost with the manufacturing past of my family at Castone Brick is found in the use of industrial nostalgia by modeling I-beam shapes as part of the structure of the stacked sections. I also fired nuts, bolts, and washers of various sizes in the clay that build the surface of the human forms. The square nut seen in my work is no longer being manufactured and is symbolic of the passing of the industrial age in America. Finally, to build the surfaces of my sculptures I used slips, glazes, and a variety of clays on top of clay, and laid glass fragments on the horizontal surfaces to create a look of pooled water when my work was fired similar to what I have seen in the Lehman Caves in Baker, Nevada. Web Penetration testing : Finding and evaluating vulnerabilities in a web page based on C#, .NET and Episerver

Today’s society is highly dependent on functional and secure digital resources, to protect users and to deliver different kinds of services. To achieve this, it is important to evaluate the security of such resources, to find vulnerabilities and handle them before they are exploited. This study aimed to see if web applications based on C#, .NET and Episerver had vulnerabilities, by performing different penetration tests and a security audit. The penetration tests utilized were SQL injection, Cross Site Scripting, HTTP request tampering and Directory Traversal attacks. These attacks were performed using Kali Linux and the Burp Suite tool on a specific web application. The results showed that the web application could withstand the penetration tests without disclosing any personal or sensitive information. However, the web application returned many different types of HTTP error status codes, which could potentially reveal areas of interest to a hacker. Furthermore, the security audit showed that it was possible to access the admin page of the web application with nothing more than a username and password. It was also found that having access to the URL of a user’s invoice file was all that was needed to access it. / Dagens samhälle är starkt beroende av funktionella och säkra digitala resurser, för att skydda användare och för att leverera olika typer av tjänster. För att uppnå detta är det viktigt att utvärdera säkerheten för sådana resurser för att hitta sårbarheter och hantera dem innan de utnyttjas. Denna studie syftar till att se om webapplikationer baserade på C#, .NET och Episerver har sårbarheter, genom att utföra olika penetrationstester och genom att göra en säkerhetsgranskning. Penetrationstesterna som användes var SQL-injektion, Cross Site Scripting, HTTP-förfrågningsmanipulering och Directory Traversal-attacker. Dessa attacker utfördes med Kali Linux och Burp Suite-verktygen på en specifik webbapplikation. Resultaten visade att webbapplikationen klarade penetrationstesterna utan att avslöja någon personlig eller känslig information. Webbapplikationen returnerade dock många olika typer av HTTP-felstatuskoder, som potentiellt kan avslöja områden av intresse för en hackare. Vidare visade säkerhetsgranskningen att det var möjligt att komma åt webbapplikationens adminsida med inget annat än ett användarnamn och lösenord. Det visade sig också att allt som behövdes för att komma åt en användares fakturafiler var webbadressen.

L'économie circulaire appliquée à un système socio-écologique halio-alimentaire localisé : caractérisation, évaluation, opportunités et défis / Circular economy in a small-scale fishery-dependent socio-ecological system : characteristics, evaluation, opportunities and challenges

L'économie circulaire (EC) émerge depuis les années 2000 dans le débat public, en opposition à l'économie linéaire, modèle dominant aux limites économiques et écologiques reconnues. Cette thèse constitue une première confrontation opérationnelle de l'EC à un système socio-écologique dépendant de la pêche, le Pays de la Cornouaille en Bretagne. Le système est délimité dans sa façade maritime avec la pêche côtière, seule considérée comme production locale.L'approche est systémique, multidimensionnelle et dynamique. L'analyse comporte trois volets : le premier sur l'amont du circuit en mer, le deuxième sur l'aval du système à terre et le dernier sur le système complet. Premièrement, le coût caché des rejets est visualisé via une analyse comptable de flux de matière ("Material Flow Cost Accounting" MFCA) adaptée à la pêche, proposé comme outil pertinent pour améliorer la performance économique et environnementale des pêcheurs. Deuxièmement, l’analyse de flux révèle une forte dépendance des activités à terre vis-à-vis des importations et exportations de bioressources halieutiques malgré un apport significatif de la pêche côtière à l'économie locale. Troisièmement, des scenarii sur le sous-système Sardine, du "business as usual" a l'EC, servent à proposer une trajectoire alternative de développement basée sur un "panier" de biens et services territorialises et la construction d'une valeur territoire à partir de ressources halieutiques locales. Pour atteindre cette EC durable, il s'agira d'optimiser l'utilisation des ressources locales et diminuer les externalités négatives, en plus d'aller vers une gouvernance partagée, adaptée à l'échelle du système socio-écologique considéré. / The years 2000 have favored the emergence of "Circular Economy" (CE) in the public debate, as opposed to the "linear economy", the dominant model that led to acknowledged economie and ecological limits. Our work is a first attempt to address the CE to a fishery-dependent socio-ecological System, the Cornouaille region in Brittany. The approach is systemic, multidimensional and dynamic. It implies the identification of marine boundaries, in which only Coastal fisheries are considered as a local production. The analysis is conducted along three main axes: an analysis of the upstream part at sea (fishing), an analysis looking at the downstream value chain, on land, and a third looking at the whole System. First, a Material Flow Cost Accounting (MFCA) analysis adapted to fisheries is proposed as a relevant tool to improve economy and environmental performance of fishers, providing evidence of hidden costs of fish discards.Second, the fish bioresource flow analysis indicates a strong dependency on importation and exportation flows to maintain land-based activities depending on sea products, albeit evidence of a significant contribution of Coastal fisheries to the local economy. Third, the exploration of the sardine sub-system through scenarii, ranging between from "business as usual" to those lined with CE, shows an alternative development trajectory, based upon a potential "basket of goods and services", a "territorial value", specifically linked to local fisheries. To achieve such a sustainable CE, we would need to not only aim at a more efficient use of local marine resources and decrease negative externalities, but also advocate for a shared governance, suited to the scale of the considered localised socio-ecological System.

Nástroje obchodní politiky uplatňované v mezinárodním obchodě s textilem / Instruments of Trade Policy Used in International Trade in Textiles

The goal of this thesis is to describe the most important trade policy instruments that have been used in international trade in textiles since the second half of the 20th century, and to deduce the implications of the instruments on the textile sector, mainly the European one. The thesis introduces the classification of instruments in the trade policy used in the international trade in textiles and economic consequences of chosen instruments; brief characteristics of evolution of international trade in textiles since the second half of the 20th century, change in localization and sector structure of the textiles and clothing industry and main trends in its evolution. There are described most important multilateral agreements concerning the trade in textiles: Short-Term Arrangement regarding International Trade in Cotton Textiles, Long-Term Arrangement regarding International Trade in Cotton Textiles, Multifibre Arrangement, Agreement on Textiles and Clothing and current trends in contractual instruments followed by autonomous instruments such as anti-dumping and anti-subsidy measures and particular cases. The thesis includes consequences of the instruments mentioned above. In the last chapter, the trends in the evolution of instruments are summarized and the reflection on possible solutions for the European, and thus also Czech textile and clothing industry, is mentioned.

Génération de surface nanostructurées par le contrôle des interactions aux interfaces / Versatile nanostructured surfaces generated by controlling interfacial interactions

La génération de surfaces présentant des nanostructurations de surface variées et modulables est l’objectif principal de ce travail. L’auto-assemblage de copolymères à bloc ou de nanoparticules d’or a été privilégié, et nécessite pour se faire de moduler finement les interactions aux interfaces substrat/ matériaux déposés. Dans une première partie, un dispositif expérimental de greffage de silane alkyle en voie vapeur est décrit. Cette technique de greffage permet d’aboutir à des surfaces fonctionnalisées soit de façon homogène, soit de façon graduelle et ce, avec un ou deux silanes (substrat respectivement mono ou bi-composant). La robustesse, la simplicité et la flexibilité de notre procédé ont été démontrés par des caractérisations physico-chimique (mesure des propriétés de mouillabilité), chimique (spectroscopie de photoélectrons X) ainsi que par analyse topographique (microscopie à force atomique). Dans une deuxième partie, l’influence des interactions aux interfaces substrat / film sur l’auto-assemblage de copolymères à bloc PS-b-PMMA a été mise en évidence par AFM. A partir des substrats de silicium homogènes en énergie de surface, il a été possible de moduler la nanostructuration sur différents échantillons et à partir des surfaces fonctionnalisées graduellement, cette variation de nanostructuration a pu être obtenue sur un même substrat. Par l’utilisation de copolymère à bloc PS-b-PI, il est par ailleurs possible de générer des films nanostructurés sans préfonctionnalisation du substrat, sans recuit et ce quelle que soit l’épaisseur du film. Dans une troisième partie, l’influence des interactions aux interfaces sur l’assemblage capillaire/convectif dirigé de nanoparticules d’or a été démontré par microscopie à champ sombre. La nature chimique et la densité de greffage des silanes ainsi que la dimension des échantillons ont été modulées pour mettre en évidence le rôle de ces paramètres sur l’assemblage de ces particules. Cette étude montre que les interactions aux interfaces contrôlent l’assemblage des entités chimiques organiques et inorganiques et donc la nanostructuration de surface qui en résulte. / The purpose of this work is to develop a methodology based on the control of interactions at substrate/deposited material interfaces in order to achieve well-defined structures at the nanoscale (nanostructuration). In particular, silane molecules were grafted onto planar substrates to adjust the physico-chemical interactions in order to consequently control block copolymers / gold nanoparticles self-assemblies. The first part describes the experimental set-up developed to graft alkyl silanes through vapor phase strategy. The modification can be finely tuned such that homogeneously or gradually functionalized surfaces with either one or two silanes (or- or two-component substrate, respectively) are obtained. The versatility and simplicity of our process were demonstrated by wettability measurements, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and microscopic analysis (AFM) performed on these different surfaces. The second part points out the influence of grafting density and polarity on block copolymers self-assembly. PS-b-PMMA films were first used. With using homogeneously-modified substrates, it has been demonstrated that block copolymers self-assembly depends on substrate surface chemistry, and different cases (dewetting, wetting, parallel or perpendicular orientation of nanodomains) were achieved as a function of the grafting density of silanes on the substrate. Using gradually-modified surface, these different nanostructures were obtained on one unique sample. Moreover, by using appropriate deposition conditions with another block copolymer (PS-b-PI), well-oriented nanostructured films were obtained without pre-functionalization or annealing, regardless of film thickness. In the third part influence of surface chemistry on gold nanoparticles deposited through capillary/convective assembly is investigated and characterized by dark field microscopy. The careful selection of silane in conjunction with appropriate grafting density are adjusted in order to emphasize the impact of these parameters on the assembly process and therefore on the surface nanostructures. This study demonstrates that the control of interfacial interactions dictates the self-assembly of organic or inorganic materials deposited on a planar substrate.

Upbringing and psychological make-up inspire individual norms for beauty and cuteness. The mannerist approach in my work is a product of the figural liberties found in cartooning, illustration and art history. By altering facial and bodily features, I relate the proportions of an infant to cuteness and innocence. However, I tailor the photographs to empower the subjects all the while mirroring trends in contemporary pop culture. I'm interested in themes of everyday life, vitality and emotion placed in obscure, imaginary or exaggerated venues. I fictionalize subjects of my reality to compel viewers to identify with and fancy emotions, circumstances, moods and relationships. The intent is to amplify, yet be truer to their existence and idiosyncrasies through figural adaptations.

Des modèles de chimie transport permettent le suivi réaliste des polluants en phase gazeuse dans l'atmosphère. Cependant, lapollution atmosphérique se trouve aussi sous forme de fines particules en suspension, les aérosols, qui interagissent avec la phase gazeuse, le rayonnement solaire, et possèdent une dynamique propre. Cette thèse a pour objet la modélisation et la simulation numérique de l'Equation Générale de la Dynamique des aérosols (GDE). La partie I traite de quelques points théoriques de la modélisation des aérosols. La partie II est consacrée à l'élaboration du module d'aérosols résolu en taille (SIREAM). dans la partie III, on effectue la réduction du modèle en vue de son utilisation dans un modèle de dispersion tel que POLAIR3D. Plusieurs points de modélisation restent encore largement ouverts: la partie organique des aérosols, le mélange externe, le couplage à la turbulence, et les nano-particules.
