Sobre dores e amores: caminhos da tristeza materna na elaboração psíquica da parentalidade / On pains and love: paths of maternal sadness on the psychic elaboration of parenthood

Cristiane da Silva Geraldo Folino 09 May 2014 (has links)
Entre as questões levantadas a esse propósito, alerta-se para o risco de se negligenciarem ou, no outro extremo, patologizarem as dores inerentes à delicada construção da parentalidade / Gestation and the first times in a babys life are fundamental to the establishment of bonds with the parents; apart from guaranteeing their survival, it provides the basis for the webs of their psychism, forming the ground on which their relationships will develop throughout their life. Concomitant to this construction, the parents go through an analogue process, gradually building themselves in this condition as they relate to the child. However, these first times may have a strong impact on who generates and cares for the baby. Thus, the aim of this study is to enlighten the womans post-partum psychic experiences and to verify the resources developed to cope with the psychic work necessary to face the grieves and to build and exercise parenthood. Through a qualitative research theoretically bound by psychoanalysis, five mother-baby pairs were studied. There were a minimum of four encounters with each pair: at least one on gestation e three post-partum (one-week, one-month and two-month old). The gestational meetings took place at a location chose by the participant and the puerperium encounters, at her home. With psychoanalysis instrumental, semi-guided interviews and observation of the relationship established by the mother with the baby and with the researcher took place. Each case was separately analyzed and possible confluences between them were verified. Taking into account the specificity of the psychic maternal functioning and the impact of the demands of a child on who must help them live, the research revealed the importance of considering the amplitude of the carrying and caring phenomena. This role, that all mothers must play, was experienced, at least at first, as brutal and disorganizing not only by the woman, but by the whole family. The difficulties of metabolizing these experiences and the losses inherent to the process for instance, the ideal baby, idealized motherhood, narcissism, the previous rhythm and the routine, among others may damage the construction and the exercise of parenthood and even thwart the overcoming of the baby blues, eventually unfolding depressive phenomena (manifest or covered). The real gains resulting from the babys arrival may be lived from this contact with the losses and its elaboration. It was also concluded that prevention and care mechanisms for the family must be built in these first times of the baby\'s life, with collaboration between the various disciplines involved and with public health policies. Amongst the issues raised to this purpose, an alert is made to the risk of neglecting or, on the other end, pathologizing the pains inherent to the delicate construction of parenthood

Vad vill Baby Boomers ha? : – Prioriterade aspekter vid restaurangbesök / What do Baby Boomers want? : – Prioritized aspects for restaurants

Landerholm, Erik, Norling, Emilia January 2024 (has links)
This study examined the key aspects for baby boomers, people born between 1946-1964, interms of restaurant choice and the dining experience. Additionally, it also investigated whether there are differences between men and women in these regards. This was conducted through structured interviews which were analyzed via pie charts, correlation tables, andthematic analysis. The research revealed that the differences between men and women are inmany cases small, although a few aspects showed significant differences. The aspects mosthighly prioritized by the baby boomer generation included the variety of food options, thequality of service, and the restaurant concept when choosing a restaurant. Regarding thepriorities between men and women, the aspect "quality of service" was the highest priority among women, while among men, the aspect of "variety of food options" was of utmost importance.

Zdravotní gramotnost matek s předčasně narozeným dítětem / Health literacy of mothers with premature infant

Vencová, Barbora January 2015 (has links)
Health literacy represents the cognitive and social skills which determine the motivation and ability of individuals to gain access to, understand and use information in ways which promote and maintain good health, according to WHO. Common health literacy level may be sufficient in the case of smooth pregnancy and natural childbirth. However, if there are some health problems, it is necessary to support an increase in health literacy level of mothers. Main objective of this thesis is to describe the objective health literacy level of mothers with premature baby and to identify areas that are for these mothers most problematic. The theoretical part deals with demographic data related to premature births, the basic definition of prematurity, an essential characteristic of neonatology and organization of care, premature baby, the most common medical complications and prognosis. Defines and operationalizes health literacy of mothers with premature baby. Research used a qualitative methodology. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews. Respondents for interview were physicians who care for preterm infants. The selection of respondents was conducted using the snowball sampling to facilitate data analysis, were interviews transcribed and then analyzed using the cluster analysis. Results were...

Some mothers get a good start others need more support. Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) and “ten steps to successful breastfeeding” were meant to encourage breastfeeding at maternity hospital through measures like education of midwifes in supporting the mothers. The aim of this study was to describe mother’s feelings for breastfeeding and their experience of support from nursing staff and fathers during the stay on BB and to compare with a group of mothers from 1993. The method was a quantitative cross-sectional study. A survey study was accomplished among mothers in a birth-Clinique in Sweden. Participating mothers was 91 in 1993 and 16 in 2010. Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) was used to processing data. The result showed that mothers experienced a greater feeling of uncertainty and anxiety in 2010 compared with 1993. The majority of mothers 2010 also felt that breastfeeding was something they “had to learn”. Mothers experienced that fathers were more supportive in 2010 than 1993. Initiative to the first breastfeeding was in most of the cases in 2010 taken by a midwife and a higher share of the mothers 2010 got help from the nursing staff at breastfeeding time. The conclusion is that breastfeeding might be a sensitive period to the mothers and that support was needed. BFHI has had a positive effect on the work in supporting mother’s breastfeed in the maternity hospital, but there are still needs of following-up and controls of the activity. The fathers took in 2010 more responsibility and are more supporting to the mothers compared with 1993.

This study is about the stakes of how the baby boomer generation, in particular those born between 1945 and 1954 who are currently retiring, will deal with their living spaces. I shall take into account the multiple visions of Benoit Goetz (2011), Heidegger (1958), Bachelard (1957), Benjamin (1955), Büber (1962) and Deleuze (1980) who analyze what it means to live in a given living space. Indeed not only must porosity factors and increasing relations between beings be analyzed but also the characteristics of these baby boomers themselves with regards to who they are as Jean Francois Sirinelli (2003) and Josée Garceau (2012) have done. This new generation of baby boomers hopes to remain active and in order to do so seeks to adapt and influence their living spaces as well as their conceptualizations of what it means to “live”. This current study has asked baby boomers what their visions are for their future residential choices in order to grasp on what values and for what goals their project is based on,. This was done by having five baby boomer between the age of 60-65 to watch the movie Et si on vivait tous ensemble. Afterwards, semi-directed interviews, based on their memory of the movie, what adaptions they foresee in addition to how they see their future, were conducted in two different phases with approved verbatim. The findings were then compared and confirmed with different theoretical frameworks such as porosity and opening of a physical and virtual window. At the same time, retirement homes and the financial considerations behind an aging population were taken into account. This generation, immersed in technology wants to have access to such modern technology without losing the feeling of controlling their lives and story. Born in an innovation and changing time, they have already proven capable of changing and reinventing each stage of their life. This, therefore, leaves us to believe that they will do the same with their vision of retirement and living spaces. Hence, tomorrow’s design models will have to renew itself for its new users.

Norring, Frans, Schöllin, Hampus January 2019 (has links)
Aim: The purpose of the study is to explain how different generational affiliation react on eWOM-communication via online reviews. Method: The study uses a quantitative research method to conduct survey. The survey was based on 8 questions and 148 responses were collected from respondents from three different generations. The responses were analyzed by descriptive statistics and univariate analysis. Result and conclusion: The study shows how generational affiliations of Baby Boomers, Generation X and Generation Y act on the online reviews. The three generations` buying intentions are based on key factors such as risk aversion, trust and internet knowledge. All three generations claims that eWOM and, in particular, online reviews affect them. Further research: A future study can deal with why consumers of a product are not inclined to write online reviews of the product but want to read online reviews on products from other consumers. Although it is obvious that reviews are an important part of the purchasing decision. All three generations investigated tend to not willing to write online reviews Contribution of the thesis: The contribution of the study is several clarifications for consumer behavior in general especially generation marketing. The study concludes how the generations are affected and act for online reviews.

Baby Boomer Living: Designing a Modern Continuing Care Retirement Community

Wassum, Ryan Michael 01 June 2013 (has links)
With the largest U.S. generation in the midst of retirement, the Baby Boomer cohort is vastly changing the senior housing landscape. As the housing market gradually improves and the development of senior housing chases the increasing demand, Baby Boomers are a highly selective cohort with more buying and spending power than their predecessors, are healthier and more active, and are demanding an unconventional modification of alternative senior housing. The “traditional” senior community is outdated and no longer seen as a viable choice for retirement, and new and innovated models have surpassed the old-fashioned establishments. Among the innovative senior community models, the Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) combines a variety of unique residential options and comprehensive services that meet the needs of new and active retirees and aging seniors. Focusing on the Baby Boomer cohort in conjunction with a modified CCRC model, this project examines the current demographic and housing landscape for Baby Boomers and seniors, as well as assesses trending planning techniques and design elements to formulate an ideal senior living prototype for the 234 acre Sinclair Ranch in Chinese Camp, California. In culmination of research, academic literature review, survey analysis, and case study review, key trending planning and design elements have emerged to develop a state-of-the-art CCRC intended to meet market demands and desires of a growing and highly selective senior cohort. Thus, this project concludes with a design Draft Plan for the Sinclair Ranch that captures both the characteristics of an innovative CCRC and the emergent desires stemming from the shifting senior landscape. With key design recommendations and proposed community features, the draft plan is intended to outline and guide the vision of the proposed development for the Sinclair Ranch CCRC.

The Ritual Construction of Fetal Personhood : A Voyage through the Gendering of the Unborn in Peruvian Baby Showers

Byström, Cecilia January 2015 (has links)
The purpose of this research is to analyse how gender is ‘done’, represented and reproduced in a Peruvian baby shower ritual. The study is situated geographically in the urban Andean setting of Cusco, and theoretically, in a feminist framework combining an ethnomethodological ‘doing gender’ perspective, anchored in social interactions, with a linguistic performativity approach, as formulated by Judith Butler. In the latter, gender is understood as performed through discursive practices of iterability. The ethnographic material, collected from two baby showers and additional interviews, demonstrate several ways and sites in which gender is done and performed in the Cusqeanean baby shower. This occurs, for instance, by the means of gendered gifts, decorations and performances of gender-crossing and hyperbolised displays of masculinity, femininity and sexuality. Furthermore, to help make sense of the notions of prenatal gender, as well as the strictly gendered cultural norms for invitation cards, decoration and gift-making, which made me unknowingly brake conventions when bringing gender-neutral wooden toys to a Peruvian baby shower, I draw on theorisation of fetal personhood. Adapting van Gennep’s (2004[1909]) concept, I propose that the baby shower could be conceptualised as a rite of passage, in which the unborn transcends from the state of fetus to a gendered baby. The acts of naming and attributing gender in the baby shower ritual, I argue, are requisites for incorporating the child into the society, as family members and, ultimately, as human beings. The baby shower can, thus, be regarded a crucial site for the ‘social birth’ of the Cusqueanean baby.
